Chapter 11: Remora

Jasyn awoke to the sound of gunfire and he immediately shot bolt upright and threw on his pants. In the hallway he saw pulses of energy flying back and forth, and looked around for something to use as a weapon. He heard a cry of pain.

"Aagh!" shouted Kaine, as a burst exploded against his chest. He fell to the ground, writhing.

Axis was near the back, protecting the young with Daemon, when a barrage of shots flew towards them. The fox cried, "No!" and there was a momentary surge of power, the entire room and hallway were lit up as the fox absorbed the blasts. He fell to the ground clutching his chest.

Jasyn growled low in his throat, hearing his mate's cry, and spotted a pistol discarded near the door. He huffed a few times, breathing carefully; he only had one chance. He leapt into the hallway, rolled, grabbed the pistol, and dove into the room across from his own.

"Gods!" he gasped, "Did I just do that?"

Suddenly another surge of energy filled the room, and again came Axis' agonized cry. This time there was a coherent beam, and Jasyn could hear the chits and screeches of the attackers.

"Axis!" he shouted, and jumped into the hallway, firing wildly towards the attackers.

There was no one there, a shot rang hollowly against walls and a few flew out of the corridor and into open air. Jasyn blinked in confusion and turned around to see a group of fighters huddled around a pair of forms.

Jasyn pushed through and fell to his knees, cradling Axis' head in his lap. The fox had fallen unconscious, and Jasyn was hysterical to begin with. On the other side of the circle, Kaine shook a bit and grimaced, looking around at the dimming world.

The Sirian fox squirmed a bit, groaning and moving a paw to grip his head. He looked up at Jasyn and immediately had to close his eyes, gasping sharply. "Gah!" he gasped, "Why is it so bright in here!?"

Jasyn chuckled and ran a paw over Axis' furred cheeks, and the fox grimaced and slowly sat up. He squinted, but he looked around at the congregation; and his head throbbed. "Uhh... I've got a massive headache," complained the fox, who immediately fell back into Jasyn's arms.

"Heh," coughed Kaine, blood on his breath, "lucky you."

Everyone stood around as Doctor Tavok tried to help Kaine in some way. She eventually stood and shook her head. "There's nothing I can do, the damage is too great. If I had my Med-Lab then he'd be fine, but... as it is..." she trailed off.

Axis looked over to the dying form of Kaine, and bowed his head a bit. Jasyn hugged Axis closer, not even caring that representatives from two worlds were watching. Varu stepped close to his friend and sat down, comforting him in his dying moments.

"You know," coughed Kaine, smiling sickly, "I don't regret any of it," and slowly, his vision started to blur, his world fell dark, and the breath that escaped his lips ceased. Everyone was silent, grieving in his or her own way.

Suddenly the base shook, and one of the children cried.

Roman bolted up and looked at the group, "Everyone get to the hangar. Anyone who can't fly, get into a transport."

"You heard him men. Axis, get up off the ground and get those children onto a transport. Guard them with your life; and Jasyn, I don't think I have to tell you to guard that ship for all you're worth," said Varu, wiping a tear from his eye.

Jasyn and Axis both jumped up and nodded, uttering a quick "Yes sir" before they led the younger Sirians deeper into the crumbling base. As they boarded a transport, Jasyn pulled Axis close and kissed him deeply for the first time in an earth day. "You be careful up there, kit. If I lost you, I'd die," he said, quietly.

"You be careful too Jasyn, I'll never forgive myself if something happens to you," replied the fox, before leaning up and giving Jasyn another kiss.

Daemon watched, intrigued, before he continued into the transport with the rest of the young. Axis nuzzled Jasyn once more and whispered, "Got to go" before he turned and jogged up the ramp. He turned at the top of the ramp and looked down at Jasyn, before he retracted it.

Jasyn jogged over to the Mech he'd been piloting, and jumped into the crouching triennium armour. He tapped a few controls, slipped the NL band over his head, and uttered a silent prayer, before he shot off like a bullet, out of the hangar, followed closely by the transport.

--

Moments after; the base crackled, and another bomb went off. The building shattered, and debris flew everywhere, as the structure was demolished. There was a terrible silence, before Jasyn said, "Scan for ions people, we're bound to be under attack."

As the ships came up on screens fleet wide, Jasyn snickered. Daemon was flying the transport, but there was a roar heard as one of the Craganii ships rushed past, cutting the air on the way to Jasyn.

"Jasyn! Look out!" cried Axis over their open channel, and the exoskeleton did a quick mid-air spin and a chain of explosive rounds sprayed out of the Gatling cannon, bringing the Crag ship out of the air.

The fleet de-cloaked and Roman shouted over the channel, "Give 'em hell!"

The transports and their escorts flew onwards, as the rest of the five hundred and some craft did a quick, acrobatic spin and started to open fire. Axis' ship shook as a beam grazed its hull, and he deployed the armour-web. Daemon was silent.

--

"Sire, the attack is going according to plan" chirped the scaled creature, speaking to another.

"Excellent. See that they survive, though. They'll make good slaves to break," creaked the older being.

--

The fight raged on, and several of the earth ships were heavily damaged. The ships ducked and wove through the cityscape, an intense dogfight in a crowded, ruined lattice of skyscrapers.

Jasyn didn't know where he was going, so he just tried to get the children as far away from the fight as he could.

In the skies all around them, ships were incinerating. People Jasyn had just met, and people he had grown to trust were dropping like flies. One of the Craganii started to fire on Jasyn's suit, and Leon blew it out of the sky, shouting over the intercom, "I've got your back J."

Jasyn gasped in relief and started to bullet through the streets; ducking and weaving between, over, and through buildings. The transports were having trouble keeping up, but not Leon.

As they rounded a bend, a vast and tranquil ocean confronted them, and Jasyn stopped in awe, the other ships flying straight past him. He stared in wondrous amazement, before another Craganii missile impacted his hull. He cringed as a console sparked, and another missile hit him.

Axis watched in horror as a third explosion engulfed Jasyn's mech; this time clearing to reveal nothing. There came a silent moment that he wondered if Jasyn had felt anything, before he saw the Craganii ship's hull splitting, and bullet after explosive bullet being fired from Jasyn's damaged Gatling arm.

Jasyn shot past and yelled, "Move it people!"

--

A Craganii slaver party scoured the city ruins, coming across many a homeless Sirian. A pair of their newest acquisitions writhed in their bonds, growling viciously. They were still clad in their Earth Forces uniforms, torn and dirtied, and the spotted one swore at them in some language the Crag had never heard before. One of them backhanded the Dalmatian, knocking him out.

--

"There's one on your tail, Jayse!" shouted Axis hopefully.

Jasyn couldn't whirl around, but Leon flew directly towards the wolf. He was a little below Jasyn's mech, but was flying opposite him, and the moment he caught sight of the Cragani vessel, he pulled up and vaporized it.

--

On the far side of the city, some three hours later, a very battered and thinned fleet emerged. There was one lone Crag ship, which someone sniped easily, but their numbers were already greatly reduced. "Five hundred fucking ships. We started off with five hundred fucking ships today. Now we're down to two hundred and ninety five?" fumed Varu. "No matter," he calmed himself, "We'll send a message to Earth via slipstream transmission. If they move quickly enough, we could have a battle-ready fleet by Halloween."

"Sir, we'd need to open a slipstream aperture to send the message fast enough," stated Lieutenant Phillips. She looked a little shaken up in the pilot's seat, but she was holding out okay. Her right arm had been showered with shrapnel from an exploding console on the bridge, but she'd suffered only that.

"Then open a slipstream event!"

"Sir, we can't from this distance,"

--

While they flew peacefully, their ship smouldering a bit on the exterior, Axis and Daemon spoke between one-another. The youth were asleep, and Jasyn was busy finding out 'where the hell' they were headed; so the fox had no one else to talk to.

"So after father died, Roman took over, and ever since our forces have been shrinking. Father used to at least listen to my ideas, but Roman doesn't even give me a chance!" Daemon said, his voice raising.

"And, you think it's because you're part-fox?" asked Axis, lounging with his feet up on a charred console.

"Well why else would it b- Hey! How did you know?" inquired the young wolfox.

Axis just flicked his tails and said, "Foxes tend to take better care of their tails; it is after all one of the oldest ways to attract a mate. Your tail is better groomed than your brothers. The black at the tip doesn't help hide it either, nor does the black on the tips of your ears."

Daemon looked surprised and a bit dumbfounded. 'No wolf would have been able to deduce that,' he thought, before Axis continued.

"However, you and your brother were yelling so much last night that I couldn't sleep, so it wasn't really hard to overhear you," smirked the white fox.

Daemon suddenly looked angry and growled a bit, "You were spying on us? What gives you the right?"

"Oh, just cause I'm a fox you're accusing me of being a spy? Please, it was hard to ignore you two with how loudly you were yelling. I had a very interesting chat with your brother after you ran off though."

Daemon's anger was rising; he felt like hurting the fox, before Jasyn's voice broke over the radio.

"Hey guys, there's apparently a larger base a few kilometres south of here. We're headed there to regroup with the rest of the Sirian resistance. Kick your engines to full, there's nothing but clear sky from here to there," said the wolf, sounding happy.

"Thanks Jayse, I'll see you when we land," replied Axis, and the channel closed.

"You two must be close, are you his bitch or something?" questioned Daemon.

Axis smirked as he reclined, eyes closed. He cracked one eye open and looked over at Daemon, his lilac iris shining in the midday sunlight filtering in through the window, and said, "No, I'm not his bitch. He's my mate, and he's also on the submissive side."

Daemon looked shocked for a moment, and then blushed a bit and turned back to his piloting. "Wow... I wish I could find somebody like that," the young wolfox said, and trailed off.

"Heh, you'd have liked my brother. He was so good to Jayse and me... He died on The Falchion," intoned Axis, reminiscing.

"T'least your brother was good to you..." sulked Daemon.

--

The crimson-scaled, muscular creature walked into the cell and sat down. He looked up at his emperor with his large, buggy eyes, and the dictator chirped, "You'll never fail me again, commander."

The creature quivered, his dragonfly-like wings shuffling a bit, clipped so he could never again fly.

The cell was thrown into darkness, as the solid cell wall slid back down. He had failed.

--

Axis ran down the ramp and across the large, clean hangar bay to Jasyn, who was smirking, standing by his MPN, with his hair flowing loose. Axis ran up and threw his arms around the wolf, hugging him tightly as Jasyn hugged him back.

Roman caught sight of this and coughed a bit in distaste, as his little brother stood, halfway down the ramp, watching the two lovers.

Jasyn brought Axis into a sensual kiss, his ice-blue eyes closing gently as he held his mate in his arms. As the two kissed, Roman walked up and coughed slightly. Axis blushed and stepped back, looking up at the taller of the two wolves.

Roman looked at Jasyn and smiled, "That was some mighty fine flying you did up there Lieutenant; made me proud to be a wolf."

Jasyn nodded and smiled happily, "Thank you, Sir!" he said, before Roman turned to look at Axis, giving him a vengeful gaze before walking away.

Axis blinked and then jumped as a paw squeezed his bottom. He turned to look up at Jasyn, who was smirking in the way only Jasyn could; cold and brash, but warm and inviting, before he gave his mate an affectionate grope back.

Roman took the children from the ship as Jasyn and Axis were led to their room.

--

"Aaah! Jasyn!" squeaked Axis, as his lover pinned him against the bed, grinning. He giggled a bit and squirmed under him, eyes clenched in effort.

Jasyn didn't let up, but he knew his fox was humouring him. He gently moved down and started to kiss at Axis' neck, eliciting a groan from the painfully aroused fox.

Axis' lay, near-paralysed with euphoric pleasure, under the wolf, as Jasyn ground against him. "Mmf... I've got a really hard problem that I can't solve by myself, Kit. Care to lend a paw?" asked the wolf, before he resumed nipping at Axis' throat lovingly.

Again the growl came, as Axis' body shivered. He quickly rolled Jasyn over and shook his head. "Why take a paw, when you can have better?" he said, smirking as he slowly slinked his form down Jasyn's body. As he went, he undid and slipped Jasyn's slacks off, revealing his lover's throbbing package, a drop of pre-cum at the tip.

Axis blushed a bit as he gently kissed Jasyn's cock head, running his tongue adventurously over the slit. Jasyn shivered and let out a moan as Axis undid his own pants now. He threw the garment into the pile of clothing at the foot of the bed; as he wrapped his lips around his lover's member, tongue ever-so-slightly flicking against the sensitive flesh.

Jasyn shuddered and let out a long moan, feeling Axis explore his wolfhood. He shook and squirmed; and just when he thought he would explode from the teasing, Axis stopped and grinned up at him. Jasyn opened his eyes and looked down at the grinning fox, eyebrow raised. He was about to ask what Axis wanted, before the fox bolted up and kissed him, laying himself precariously close to Jasyn's length.

Axis smiled, his white hair falling loosely, as he whispered, "Time to finish mating Jay," he wiggled his bottom a bit and smirked, biting his lip a bit.

"Y-you sure?" asked a very light-headed Jasyn, groaning as he felt Axis' start to grind back against him.

"Yes love, positive," came the reply.

Jasyn rolled so that Axis was beneath him, and pressed his tip to his love's tight opening. "If it hurts, jus-"

Axis kissed Jasyn deeply and pressed himself back, the wolf's tapered tip sinking into his tailhole. Into the kiss, Jasyn groaned and then started to push forward into his fox, who groaned back and pushed back.

The slickened length pushed into Axis with some ease, but the fox was so tight, that it caused him a good deal of pain. Axis grimaced and groaned in pain, as Jasyn slowly brought himself to hilt.

The two rested as Jasyn's thick cock throbbed inside of Axis' rear; clenched tight around the intruding flesh. They panted, hearts beating quickly with their shallow breath, before Axis nodded with a whimper.

Jasyn slowly pulled from his mate's silken passage, his knot already forming. He sped his pace as he thrust back in, hitting Axis' three prostates and bringing the fox a great deal of pleasure, to go with that pain. Axis writhed and jumped, his own length dripping pre-cum copiously.

"J-Jasyn... ugh... take me," whispered the fox, as Jasyn again started to pull out, setting a pace. Down the hall, Daemon could hear their cries of ecstasy, as Jasyn pounded repeatedly into his fox's glands.

Axis whimpered and shook, his length throbbing with neglect. Jasyn quickly remedied that, wrapping a paw around his kit's length. He pummelled heatedly, panting heavily as Axis' moans fell to growls; the mating growls they'd forever cherish singing in harmony to the chaotic, writhing sex.

"Kit... nngf... I'm close!" cried Jasyn, stimulating Axis' throat with erotic, lusty bites. Axis groaned and pushed back; and cried as Jasyn's knot entered his tailhole, followed moments later by streams of molten and thick ropes of Jasyn's seed.

Axis came harder than ever before, managing to hit his own chin, but splattering across Jasyn's chest, stomach, and right cheek. The two fell in on one-another, panting heatedly as they cuddled close.

"J-Jasyn?" said Axis several minutes later, when he was coming down from his euphoric high. Jasyn nodded and nuzzled into the fox's chest-fur.

"Yeah?" he asked, drowsily.

"I love you," whispered the fox, smiling as he hugged Jasyn to his chest. He wrapped his tails around Jasyn's legs, and pulled the sheets over himself, falling asleep with his lover's seed still hot within his bowels.

--

"Okay. Rule one of war is know thy enemy, so; what are these Craganii like? How do they think, operate. Where are their weaknesses?" said Varu; consulting Roman and the rest of the Resistance leaders in the war-room.

Among them were three male huskies, a female collie, and a pair of male beagles; the collie being the only woman in the room.

"They're big, scaly beasts. They range between six and eight feet in height on average. They have three pairs of insectoid wings running along their backs, and a deadly, venomous tail, capable of both decapitating someone, and poisoning them. The poison kills in minutes among Sirians; there is no known cure," answered one of the huskies, a five-foot-eleven grey-coated Sirian, with entrancing Azure eyes. "They all answer to their Emperor, Illazic. That's Y-'-l-a-z-z-i-k. They're ruthless hunters, four arms each, with very effective scales. The only way we can think to destroy them effectively is to bomb them, but... there's a hitch in that plan."

Varu raised an eyebrow and proceeded to ask. "What's the hitch?"

"They keep Sirians as slaves. If we bomb them, we'll be killing countless innocents," answered the collie, her brown eyes sparkling with the vigour of a warrior shining behind them.

"So; we can't bomb them, shooting them isn't overly successful, they're very resilient. I haven't any ideas..."

"Have you thought to use a pathogen, specific to Craganii DNA/RNA?" asked a voice from somewhere else in the room. They all looked over to the door to see Axis standing there, looking thoughtful.

Varu blinked and nodded. "That actually sounds like a good idea," he said, and the others shook their heads.

"I don't think it'd work; they're too powerful to be taken down by a disease..." started Roman, before Daemon spoke up from behind Axis.

"Are you sure it's not because the idea came from a fox, Roman?" said the young Sirian wolfox.

"Get out of here fox!" shouted one of the beagles angrily.

Jasyn was standing just around the corner, inside of the room, and said with a sigh, "Would you really throw away a chance to hit the Crag below the belt like that, just because of some out-dated cultural propaganda?"

Varu looked at the leaders and sighed, "It's better to try and fail, than to not try and fail harder."

They all looked to Roman, who quivered a bit, angrily, before he relaxed. "Alright... what's your plan... ugh... Lieutenant?" he said, distastefully.

"Well, I was studying how the HIV/AIDS virus infected the human race a century ago, and today it occurred to me that we if we could create a virus that was similar, but specific to Craganii, then we could cause a massive outbreak of the infection," started Axis.

"But, HIV takes anywhere from a month to ten years to develop into full-blown AIDS, lieutenant," started Varu.

"Then we accelerate it; make it faster, deadlier, and almost undetectable."

"But how would we infect them?"

"Simple: We contaminate their food supply."

"But HIV is a blood disease, how would it-"

"Who said our virus was going to be a blood disease?" smirked Axis, as Jasyn walked up behind him and wrapped his arms around his kit's waist.

"You're so smart, Kit," said the wolf, and the entire delegation looked at him.

They dismissed it as ownership, excluding Varu, who knew better, and kept working on how to go about creating such a virus.

--

"Excuse me, Sir! There's a slip-stream event forming in G sector, Sir."

"More Terrans?" asked Roman.

"We haven't sent the- Quick! Lieutenant Phillips, send a message through the event, say we need a large support fleet, and send the combat specs of the defence grid."

Axis glanced up at the screen, and moved to a side console, magnifying the view. On the screen was a ship, similar in appearance to the Nathaniel, but differently configured. He called to the Captain.

"It's the Remora! Quickly, we have to get a message to them!"

--

"All right Lieutenant, take us in," said the Captain.

The fox at the controls started to plan a descent, and a beep came from the communications terminal.

"It's from the surface, ma'am," said the crewman there, "It's our forces, they're warning us of- oh dear lord! There's a hostile defence grid surrounding the planet. It's cloaked with the same technology that was used over the Pacific."

"Lieutenant, back us off and await escort," ordered the dark-haired woman.

"Aye sir," answered the fox.

--

Jasyn jumped into his MPN and started to power it. Axis was shouting from below, "Be careful Jasyn! Come back down here, okay?"

Jasyn nodded and solemnly brought the mech to a stand, slipping the NL band over his temples. "Don't you worry, Kit. I'll be fine!" he shouted back, and then, like all the others, he shot from the hangar, through the network of underground tunnels and catacombs, out of the face of the cliff.

--

"This is Roman. All squadrons distract those stations. Let's bring that ship down without a scratch!" said the wolf over the fleet-broadcast.

"Alright guys, stay close," said Leon through the squad-channel.

Jasyn filed in behind the jet and said, "Roger that, let's show those Crag who they're dealing with!"

Cheers came from all of the ships in the fleet, as they broke the atmosphere and started to blast the cloaked stations in unison.

"Everyone, target a single station. If we concentrate our fire, we can take it out fast and clear a path out from there," suggested Roman.

The lines of fire converged and the station before them shook, crumpled, and exploded in a flurry of shrapnel. Three ships were hit, and Jasyn landed on one of the shards and jumped, kicking it towards another station.

The Remora sent a message through to Roman. "Commander, we'll launch our meagre compliment of fighters to join you in the assault," said the Captain, as ships started to launch from the bays.

There were at least two hundred, but that was nothing compared to the seven or so hundred ships in the assault fleet.

A ship in Jasyn's squadron was hit, and it started to spin out of control, headed straight for another one. Jasyn had to think fast, and he jetted out of formation and grabbed the ship's wing, sending it on another trajectory.

They had now cleared away seven or so stations, and their numbers were starting to grow sparse. The Remora was given clearance to start her descent, and they dropped through the atmosphere as quickly as they could. Once they were clear of the satellites, "Okay fleet, follow them back, there are bound to be Craganii ships converging on our position. Active scanning for Non-Oxygen Ions people," Roman ordered.

Jasyn turned and shot through the atmosphere, staying close to the large ship. As they started to cut the atmosphere, there was a momentary loss of communication, and then, all at once, four clouds of swarmships shot out of the periphery, and started to fire on the fleet.

Jasyn turned in his descent and started picking them off, one by one. "I'll die before I let you harm these people, Crag bastards!" he shouted, falling backwards as he fired at the many tiny craft.

Hitting them was like shooting dominoes; if you got one then the shrapnel would take out seven or eight others. The hardest part was hitting the first one, but a squadron of MPNs who did the same soon joined him. They sniped the pesky ships and blew them all out of the sky, before they saw much larger craft start to rocket through. There were three in total: Crag assault carriers. Each one was about half as large as the Remora, but their cannons started to blow Jasyn's support mechs out of the sky. He gulped and ordered them to scatter, flying upwards himself.

All of the Exoskeletal fighters followed suit, and started to fire at the assault craft with vengeance, taking out many of the cannons. Several payloads of missiles rocked Jasyn's suit, and something jammed in his arm-joint. He growled as he tried to move the arm, but it wouldn't budge; another payload hit.

Axis cringed as a third salvo engulfed Jasyn's MPN which was a darker blue then the rest, and he whimpered as he saw it start to freefall out of control. "Jasyn!" he cried, as all at once the suit seemed to explode. He blinked in shock, "Jasyn... no! No!" he screamed, and he thought, hysterically, 'He can't be dead, he just can't be. I must have made a mistake!'

--

The ships filed into the hangar, there was no sign of the wolf. Axis started to search frantically, trying to find any sign that he was alive. A human hand rested on his shoulder, and he turned and nearly tore the head off of Leon in a fit of rage. "What do you want!?" he shouted, tears falling from his cheek-fur.

Leon sighed and looked down, shaking his head. "I'm sorry, Axis... He's gone..." said the human, a tear falling from his deep blue eyes aswell.

Axis fell into a fit of crying, pounding on Leon's chest in his hysteria. "No... Jasyn... no, no, no... No!" he cried, Leon rubbing his back and being supportive.

"Shh, Axis. I know Jasyn, and right now he wouldn't want you to be sad. He'd want you to be strong, for him. He gave his life to protect that ship, because he knew that it was the last thing that could let us win against the Crag," comforted the Pilot, hugging Axis close.

The fox just cried into his friend's arm, 'Why did he have to go, gods? Why did you have to take him from me?' Axis asked, in thought. He'd just lost the only person left who could bring him any strength, and he felt weak, vulnerable, and angry. 'Those Crag bastards will suffer for what they've taken from me!' he thought, and ran through the base, to his room, before collapsing onto the bed and crying again.

So I'm probably going to get so many comments saying how I just killed the story. Oh well...

If you've been following the story, then you probably have an idea who is on the ship. If you ruin the surprise by posting it in the comments, I'll find a way to neuter you. However! I welcome any and all comments that do not ruin my storyline ^-^;
