#3 of The Protector

This story was a gift from my great friend Catsithx and I thank him kindly for this. He wanted to continue this series and who am I to say no? The wedding picture I got from my favorite artist Valery Thunderbeast over on FA. Go give her a shout for her great pictures, and Cat for his story ideas. He does great ones. I had a hand in smoothing over somethings, but the rest he did himself. If you like it, let us both know how well we did.

The wolf soldier falls hard on the ground with a thud as his sword clanks near him. He looks up at the dark wolf that isn't even breathing hard. Not even sweating much in this hot sun up above.

Other soldiers are looking exhausted as they've been training hard all day. Well, training's putting it mildly. They seem to be taken a beaten when their hero, now trainer, gets mad. He wasn't even using a real weapon as he spins the wooden sword in his hand as he seems to show no real emotion.

"I told you all not to rush in. In battle, you should observe your opponent to see how they move. Watch their eyes, their fac.... Muzzle, and tail to see them give away their movement. How they react towards your actions will mean life or death in combat."

The soldier was about to say something but decided against it. The dark wolf has been know to make the soldiers suffer more for questions he deems stupid.

Many in the kingdom know he was engaged to princess Merriot. Though after the defeat of the great dark beast Fafnir and of the neighboring kingdom that tried to take over during the chaos brought by the dark beast. The great warrior who was simply called Devil. He was hailed as the great hero. Many assumed that he would take the paw of the princess.

Many plans were made though in secret as she was suppose to have given her life in the sealing of the dark beast. It was only a month later the letters came in. Many proposals for her paw in marriage.

Devil at the time didn't seem to care. He loved the princess and she loved him. All they needed to do was wed. Yet it wasn't that simple. Some nobles started to complain about Devil. About how he was a nobody. He had no title, no rank, and no blood line. For all intents purpose, he was a commoner and had no right to marry the princess.

Yes he had saved the kingdom. Yet he was not worthy of being her mate. Merriot refused to see any suitors as she had picked and mated Devil. So in her mind, they were mates already.

Still, her father had to see the suitors as many started to stay in the kingdom. Some tried to stay at the place. The many lords and princes had tried to woo Merriot. Some others tried to remove the main obstacle, Devil. One such suitor had tried to ' put' Devil in his place. That didn't go well.

Devil was walking with Merriot through the garden one day. The suitor was from the Azura kingdom made up of many strong, feline warriors. The current ruling king was the great lion king Saka. His son, Fohl, was a great warrior by his own words. He actually towered over many. His muscles seem to flex with each step he took. He truly believed that he was chosen to take the princess as his own.

He shoved Devil aside making him tumble in the flowers and tried to pull the princess away. That was his last mistake. It took several of the palace guards and Fohl's own guards to restrain Devil.

Devil had nearly beaten to death the so called great warrior prince. The prince was barely breathing and his face was swollen badly. Devil was covered with the prince's blood and had not even been touched once by the lion prince.

Devil lived up to his title of being a hero of the kingdom. Yet a new title started floating around. One he hated, Reijingu Akuma or Raging Demon.

No one could stand on par with him. It nearly came to war over the incident. Yet the prince's own guards told the king that the prince was being rude in another kingdom. Saka swallowed his pride and had his son return as he was in the wrong. Though there were a few attempts on Devil's life yet each one failed. This silenced King Saka.

After that, word spread that trying to be close to the princess while Devil was around would not go in their favor. Many asked Devil not to be near her when she meet the other suitors. Some hope this would help their chances with the princess.

She was not one to be messed with either. Many assumed she was pampered and a spoiled child who could be woo with simple, kind words and gifts.

That was also a mistake. She knew what love was as she had her love with her. She listened to many of these fools speak to her and she basically put a face on to look like she was listening to their false words of love and power they could give her kingdom.

She would smile and tell them she would think about what they said. Most saw this as they still have a chance. Others knew better as they left the kingdom knowing it was actually no she had said to them.

One day, a noble from her own kingdom tried to press his luck. He assumed she was weak as he heard that Devil had killed Fafnir.

She was the Star Sybil. She had great power that was meant to be used to seal Fafnir. Yet now with him destroyed, she still had that power and it was growing under Devil's tutelage. She needed no guard expect Devil and her old guards who served her as she grew up. Yet they were outside the room at the time.

The noble had arranged some females to distract them so he could have his way with her. This plan failed on so many levels.

The noble was a wolf like Devil, grey with white mixed fur. His fur was well groomed as he seemed to give off the smell of lilies. He looked handsome as he would attract many females of the noble houses. Yet with the princess as his mate, he would have his house raised to great status. After the meal, he moved closer to her as she smiled but moved away from him.

To him, she was playing hard to get. He moved on to her saying it was destiny for them to be together. She told him that this meeting was over and to leave. He tried to press what he saw as his advantage. Yet it was far from it.

Merriot blasted him away with her power, slamming him into the wall and nearly putting the wolf noble through it. She told him she was not a prize as her heart belong to someone who was better than any of the so called pure blood or royals.

After that it was hard to stop many of them knowing what power she possessed. To have such power would greatly strengthen their house or royal family.

It was a headache as Noel tried to tell many of them that his daughter had chosen her mate, the hero of their land.

Yet none seem to accept Devil, saying he was of common birth and he had no claim to her. Just because she mated him didn't hold anything in their minds. If anything, all it showed was that she was using Devil to sate her needs.

This never seem to be good as they could do little to stop the flow of would be suitors. As many would vie for her paw in marriage.

Devil hated it as many of the nobles looked down at him and to go as far to say it was the princess who defeated Fafnir, not him. And without her help, he would have never defeated the death knight.

Devil could care less about the accolades that were given him. As long as he was with Merriot, he was happy. Yet to be denied his love because of fools who could not see him as an equal, this bothered him more than he let on. Many of the soldiers seemed to have recovered as he came back from his daydreaming.

"I see you all are not dead, so I assume you're getting better. Well most of you are not getting defeated by bandits or rouges."

A soldier raises his hand. "Um, sir Devil. Why do you use a wooden stick and we use real blades?"

Devil looks towards him.

"Would you rather I kill you? My master told me not to train with a real weapon unless you are their equal. I assume you all see the gap in our strengths. I could use my sword, but most of you would be dead. Then who would defend the kingdom?"

Many of the soldiers bowed and some poked angrily at the solider who is blushing under his fur as they slowly disperse for the day.

A young fennec fox with rust color fur, black paws, white cream color along his chest, and black tail tip runs up to Devil with a face of joy written over his muzzle. He seems to jump up and down as if a child ready for a gift from their parent.

"That was awesome Aniki! You beat them all as if they were nothing. Like the great beast you took them down with a mighty swing," he swings his wooden sword around in great swings as Devil smiles down at the youth.

He had meet him a few months ago. He saved the fennec fox from some bandits that were going to rape him. Devil dispatched them with little effort. After saving the youth, he had taken him back to the kingdom to be healed. The little fox recovered fast and was full of spirit. But for some reason, he was always shy around Devil.

After a while, the fox had watched Devil train the soldiers with such wide, childlike expression. He wanted to to be trained also. The young fox was jumping for joy when Devil said yes, after Merriot had push Devil to accept the little fox's request. Devil had to approach the little fox differently as he was not as strong as the soldiers he was teaching. The young fox, named Cyan, was not suited for the sword, maybe a dagger cause it gave him more movement, such as dodging and sidestepping. The skills he taught Cyan was based on speed and deception.

He was slow to learn, but Devil took this as a challenge to improve the little fox. Yet looking back at it now, the young fox always seem to blush anytime Devil got close or to help move his body to do the moves better. The fennec would seem to stop breathing when Devil touched him.

Cyan had little talent and some magic but under Devil, that all changed as Devil's name had with Cyan now calling him Aniki. Not sempai as he should have called him. But Devil let it go.

He grew to like the little fox. Cyan was always willing to do what Devil asked. He still was weak compared to most of the soldiers, but he seemed to be getting stronger in his magic training. He seemed to grasp most of the ninjutsu skills he was taught. Cyan at times would give Devil looks he could not place, but he had seen looks like that back in his world.

They were looks of love. He did his best to dissuade the little fox's advances. He loved Merriot. He actually told Cyan this yet it didn't stop the puppy love he showed Devil.

"Aniki, Aniki, when will you teach me that copy image attack you showed the other day?"

"When you learn to be able to do more than one clone. At this time, your power and concentration isn't enough for you to master that yet. You are learning fast, but you need to strengthen your magical power more. Just because you know a move don't make it enough to defeat your opponent. I was lucky to learn and grow with my power. Your power will grow and soon you will be able to learn it."

Cyan looks up at Devil with a face of happiness as he is about to say something when yelling is heard and a feline is running as his guards run after him, clothes burnt and singed. Devil assumes that she said no again to another suitor. She is really losing her temper with these fools. Though he couldn't talk as he had just a short of fuse as she did.

She comes walking out after that with a stoic face but it softens when she sees her love. Merriot runs up and hugs Devil, muzzles locked in a deep kiss. Cyan face becomes red as he looks away.

"I take it was another no?" Devil says mockingly.

Merriot face puffs out a bit at the statement as she hugs Devil. She is tired of all this and the meetings of nobles and royalty. She has the male she wants despite him not being a true wolf. She has show him night after night. Oh how he can make her howl for more. As of late, she had to cast a spell her mother taught her to make her room silent or wherever she and Devil have the urge to mate.

She also learned how to seal her room during those times since her father always seems to walk right in. One such time when Devil had just knotted her. Not one of her greatest moments. Before, she had no need to find love or a mate due to the fact her fate was sealed. She had little but to be ready for her fate.

She never once entertained the fact she would find love. Devil was the perfect fur for her. He was kind, handsome, and his scent drove her nuts at times. As opposed to these furs of so called nobility or higher class. Gods they were so full of themselves. All they cared about was power and to breed her as if she was a pack horse.

Now her role was over as was her line. In a sense, it meant her newborn one day would inherit her power.

Her bloodline was one of sorrow. Those who married into it knew full well their offspring could be the next one chosen to be the Star Sybil. Who's life would be forfeit for the sake of the kingdom and the world.

Merriot knew this growing up as she was dotted on. Anything she wanted was given to her expect friends. Those close to the family were nice to her, but she had no one to call a friend. Yet she found a friend, one who would become her love.

Devil filled that emptiness in her life. She never knew it was there until he saved her in his world. She felt grateful for his help. Yet he was a commoner, and a human at that. Yet she had desired him. Small wonder why she went after him after he left her world. She wanted him more than anything. She wanted him to be her's. After coming back, he cut ties to his world to be her mate.

That's when the problems started. Many of the other lords and royal families heard what had happened. Which meant she was available. They all wanted her power. Their heir would likely inherit the power she possessed and make their bloodline powerful.

Merriot was upset by this, telling her father that she had her mate already. She would renounce her position to be with Devil. Her father told her no because she was the only child and inheritor to the kingdom.

Then the would be suitors started to arrive. Her father deemed that she meet them. She may have chosen, but the laws of her land refused her to pick Devil as he had no title nor land of his own. They all saw him as a foreigner. How close to the truth they are with that she would think. He was from a different world altogether. You can't be more foreign than that.

After the first suitor interview almost ended in war, Devil was not allowed to be near her during these meetings. Yet her temper was starting to boil as she hated to hear them try and flatter her with promises of power and growth to her people and theirs. She hated hearing about these so called promises that meant little to her.

It was simpler when she wasn't burden with all these troubles. As hard as her father and mother tried to get Devil some kind position of power that would allow them to be together, it didn't help that everyone was against this. Mostly the nobility.

She let go of Devil, looking into his deep, teal eyes as she sighs. His smile melts all her troubles, and fills her with a warmth.

"I'm sorry Devil. I wanted to be here to see you train the soldiers."

Cyan laughs a bit bringing back attention to the little fennec fox.

"You mean him beating the soldiers your highness?"

Devil glares at the fox as Cyan shrinks a bit away. Merriot knows he's been venting on the soldiers. Yes they have learned from him, but only a few can actually hold their own against him. He has been restless as of late which she has seen in his movement.

As if he has nothing to strive for. Yes he was training warriors to protect the lands. Yet he seemed restless as if he had no other goal. No other hill to climb. It is true warriors tend to suffer during peacetime.

"I just wish things were back to normal. I hate all this noble and royalty shit,"Devil sighs out.

"I know love. They just don't understand. I don't want anybody but you," Merriot murrs happily, cuddling under his chin.

They look to the left to see Cyan leave as Merriot gives a chuckle.

"You know Cyan likes you right?" Merriot says playfully as Devil looks at her.

"No no you're wrong. He just has a little hero worship towards me that's all."

"He does anything you ask despite the cost to his body. I know he is not as strong as the others you train. Nor will he ever be. His people tend towards archery and the magical arts. They are not known for their brute strength in battle. Yet he does whatever you want. He wants you to praise and notice him. He looks for those words of.... validation from you."

"Wait, are you suggesting what I think you are?" Devil blushes deeply under his dark fur.

"No silly. But I think you should talk to him before you say something he takes the wrong way. I don't want you to mate him as you belong to me. But you need to sate his desire for you. I know you seem a bit adverse to it, but you need to tell him your feelings as well. So he may explain his feelings towards you better."

Devil sighs as he has another problem to deal with. Some love sick male wanting him. And a kid at that. What was this some anime where the main character is loved by both male and females? He knew those usually ended up badly as he could only chose one. But he didn't want to hurt the little fox's heart.

"Look Merriot. I know he's someone who admires me, but I have you now. I don't want to go behind your back. Plus, I don't think about those things."

Merriot smiles as she kisses him lightly on his nose.

"I know you love me. But it is wrong for you not to tell him something. If you say nothing, it will only hurt more when you deny him what he seeks. I am not telling you to mate him to just make him happy because I know you won't be happy with that. You have to seek inside for what you have to tell him. He has to know what you feel," she says, places her hand on his chest. "He must listen to your heart, not what you say. He needs to hear your feelings. Only then will he accept the truth of the matter. Besides," she grins before nipping his nose. "You are mine! I will tell you if you can have another as a side companion."

Devil looks at Merriot surprised to hear that.

"Do your parents do that?"

Merriot laughs at that."No silly, I was having fun at your expense. Though most nobles have a tendency to do that. Who do you think the brothels biggest customers are?" she laughs as Devil's face is becoming red. "You are easy to play with. I heard the soldiers actually tried to take you to one to make a powerful male out of you."

"I will talk to Cyan, just not now. I think it will take time for me to think about this. As you said, I can't go telling him no. I have to hear what he has to say. I don't want to hurt him. I hate to do that to him," Devil looks down.

A servant comes out to the training grounds and bow lightly.

"My lady, you must get ready for the meal tonight. The price of the Rja kingdom will be here along with two of their nobles."

Merriot rolls her eyes. "Not like I care about them. But I have to play my part once more. I wish father would hurry up and figure out a way for us to be together."

Devil smiles as she pulls away, tails going limp from what she has to do.

"Can I go to this one tonight?"

"Sadly no. Many still fear you and don't want you near any of the so called suitors. They didn't like how you took the pride of and joy of King Saka apart. I'll be fine. Mother will be there to make sure I don't strangle anyone," she smiles at him as she turns away and heads off with her servant to get ready for the night.

He watches her leave as her tails sway back and forth. He sighs as he another trouble was added to his plate. Another thing that gnawed at him was he was restless. He was the practitioner of the ancient arts his master taught him. Yes he had learn all the skills and techniques, yet he was left wanting. During the battle with the death knight, he felt alive somewhat. His life was on the line and people relied on him. He never felt that way before.

His master told him it was to be that way. Yes he had matured under his master's tutelage. But he was young and there was the need to prove his skills. His master told him that warriors always felt the need to fight a stronger opponent. Iga told him of a rival he had when he was younger. They were friends, but rivals nonetheless. Both wanting to prove they were stronger then the other. He told him that they never settled as he had died before they could. It still gnawed at Iga that he could never find out who was better.

"Devil one day you will find that opponent that will push you to the limit and you will seek to fight stronger opponents. I am not saying it is a bad thing as you are young. You will seek battle because you need to prove you are better. Yet you must not hold this urge back. I know it sounds like I am trying to tell you to seek out battle but far from it. I am telling you to fill that need. Otherwise the flames of battle will consume you if you try to suppress it."

Devil summons his katana as he pulls out the blade from it's confines. He begins his dance as he remember the battle with the death knight. He sees the battle in his mind as he continues to try and figure out how to beat him. He won, but barely on a last ditch effort. He needs to grow beyond where he's at now. He cannot fail again. Failure means death and those he cares for will die. Yet the more he battles these memories, the more he feels he's still lacking. He takes a stance, Masamune at his side as he looks at the tree and the large rock behind it. With a flick of the wrist, the blade hums with power and unleashes a wave of power that cuts a few branches off the tree.

He sucks his teeth and grunts. The attack wasn't suppose to hit the tree, but go through it and hit the rock behind it. It was the one move he had yet to do good. Iga did move with a simple stick and chuckled. His passed through the oak tree behind the dojo back home and shattered many of rocks. Devil lets out a sigh, having done enough for today as he sheathes his weapon and heads off to the bathing area.

Merriot looks depressed as she has a seat at the dinner table. Many of the lords and nobles are here. She wishes to be anywhere but here, even fighting Fafnir. Again.

These so called nobles and lords are so droll and full of themselves. She has half a mind to call Devil just to make many of them run in fear. Though many keep their distance from her knowing she would to spite them. Some have heard she is not a timid little spoiled kit. That she had claws and a sword that she wields called Devil and she was not afraid to use them.

She sighs knowing her parents are putting out fire caused by her and Devil's actions. She figured by now many would give up on pursuit of her but it only seemed to make the fires burn brighter to woo her.

As she readies to sit down for the dinner, she spots the so called nobles. They are from the Rja kingdom. She first noticed the lynx. He seem to be a bit stiff as if his height made any difference as his head was raised high. I guess you could say he was looking down at those lesser to him. Next was a cheetah who was hitting on one of the female servants. She could hear him telling the hand maiden how beautiful she was and he would show her a good time. The last of the trio was a panther who seem to be wearing some armor but nothing to heavy. More ceremonial then fighting. She also spies the weapon at his side. A sword unlike Devil's that seems to be straight, the handle being red as the sheath holding it was pitch black. He was looking around the room for someone. Yet it didn't seem that he was looking for Merriot.

"Greetings esteem guest. Welcome to my home. Let us eat so we may discuss what you desire of this land."

She hated to say anything to these fools, but she gritted her teeth, held her tongue, and kept it civil. Even her mother gave her a look as if to say 'don't', like she could read her mind.

The lynx looked at the other two would be suitors and simply stood.

"I will not take up too much time. I wish you to be my bride. My family owns many shipping companies. A marriage between us would prove to be beneficial to all involved. Also, you may bring along your body guard if you wish to make this easier. I know you are very fond of him for some strange reason."

Merriot lets out a growl as the chopsticks in her paw burst into flames. Her mother sitting next to her pours some water on her hands to put the flames out.

"You may leave my lord. Do not come back or say another word. I will not be told by you who does not understand what Devil and I have."

Her mother says some words to her as she calms down. The lynx looks upset as he is asked to leave by the guards.

The cheetah laughs at his folly. His clothing is high end but unkempt as he stands up.

"I will take my leave also. I'm only here to appease my father. I will not be asking you for your paw. Please convey to my father that I came here and you rejected me. Put whatever spin you want on it. I need to find a tavern and play some cards. I feel lady luck is on my side tonight. Have a good evening ladies," he blows some kiss to the maids as they giggle and takes his leave.

Merriot is surprised by this but she has heard rumors that many males of the nobility were being forced to be her mate to get more power. She looks toward the panther as another feline behind him stands next to him. The feline coughs a bit as to make sure everyone is paying attention. She receives a new pair of chopsticks as the other two meals are taken away as the ones who were going to eat have left.

"May I present the crown prince of Rja, Herro Hu."

The panther looks upset for some reason as he actually ignores everyone. He sighs a bit as the anger in his eyes fades.

"I am sorry lady Merriot. I was expecting your mate to be here. I don't think I have a chance here to win your paw. I can see it in your eyes and your little out burst that no matter what any of us said, you would not give us any chance to say much to sway you. I was wanting to see your mate to ask him something."

Merriot is taken back by this. Many at the table are mad at this as he seem to be disrespecting the whole process. She loved it as she wanted someone not to talk to her about being her lover.

"He is occupied at the....."

"He is not allowed at these functions because of what he did to that lion prince. In my opinion, he deserved it. You don't disrespect warriors. Someone of his upbringing should have know that. Your mate was his superior in every way."

Merriot was surprised that the prince would say such a thing. His words seem to hold much respect for Devil.

Herro seems to relax a bit as he beings to eat telling his servant to eat also. The feline looks appalled by that. Herro tells him to eat as those fools are gone and he hates to see food be wasted. After dinner as the crowd begins to thin a bit, the prince begins to remove the armor showing his smooth, sleek black fur. His servant begins to panic as he just says a few words, making the servant calm down.

"My dear Merriot, I do know this is about your paw in marriage. I can tell it's a touchy subject with you. Before you speak, I can tell from your tails how the fur on it stands on its end. Look, I do need to talk to you in private about a certain matter. Don't worry, I have no ulterior motive. I just want to talk to you."

Merriot looks puzzled by this as he seems to be sincere about what he wants to talk about. She sees her mother talking to others about Merriot and her attitude. She had to get away before she was dragged over to apologize for something she could care less about.

"I will listen to your words. I see no reason to speak to alone," she states flatly

Herro smiles as she shows off his sharp teeth. "You will not be disappointed my dear."

For some strange reason, Merriot had a bad feeling about this. Yet she didn't feel the same with the other suitors as with Herro. What was his end game?

"Walk with me and if anyone asks, I am thinking about your proposal."

Herro smiles.

///////

Devil sits in his room, legs under him as his eyes were closed in concentration. Masamune floats around him slowly, a hum of power coming from it. He had already trained Cyan for the day and the little fox seemed eager to learn. Devil was happy to teach him, but it always seem that the little fennec fox wanted his approval for everything.

It felt weird for Devil to train others. Not that he couldn't. But it was that he expected to be a student longer. His life changed when that kitsune came into his life. It was strange as he had no idea he would be caught in a fight for survival, political drama, and a war.

Yet despite it all, he found love with someone he never thought he could. Merriot was a beauty that transcended all that he had experience with on earth. He saw more then a mere animal as people would think of her as. He found love he knew would exist.

Yet he always felt out of place near her as she seemed to exemplify beauty. He was just a warrior. No not even that. He felt plain compared to her. He hated feeling like he could never really offer her nothing but his undying love for her. Yes he trained the soldiers of Noel's kingdom, yet it seemed he could do more.

He had a doubts whether he could make her happy or that one day she would grow bored of him. No that would never happen. It is that self doubt that he has been feeling. Those damn royals and nobles have made Devil start to doubt himself.

Training with Iga, he never had any doubts in his ability. Then he fought the death knight. That is when he realized how far he really had to go. Yes, he had learned all the skills his master had taught him of the school. Yet he was lacking one thing, real world experience. You can shoot a gun, but can you fire under a hail of bullets?

Fighting the death knight awoke that urge within him. To find someone better than him to push himself more. Yet he hasn't found it. Here, he fought bandits and they were lacking in skills. He has trained with the soldiers and he found himself holding back when training as they are not at his level.

He felt longing for someone to scratch that itch to see his true limits. He does not want his skills to grow dull.

As he had these thoughts, he felt something hit his head. He open his eyes as he rub his head and looked up to see his master in his spirit form. The gold dragon looked at him with a glare when he over thinks things.

"You have grown a bit since the last I see you my son. Yet you seem troubled. You are always like this. Fretting over the little things," the dragon scoffs.

Devil feels a bit of pride hearing him say that he has grown a little bit but it hurts him to hear that he is still picking on his little quirks.

"But master Iga, I feel that I'm lacking. I feel that I am not at my full potential yet."

Iga chuckles before rubbing his beard.

"You are never going to change are you? You have learned all you need to know but you have yet to experience life or battle. I know you have fought in this world, but why are you fighting now? Why are you training now?"

Devil is at a loss for words as his tail stiffens and the fur on it bristles. It was a weird feeling as he has to get use to his new body. He's accepted that he is a wolf for the rest of his life, but the little things still catch him off guard. Especially the fur. But as he thinks of this, he is hit on the head by his master. Something that was done to him when his mind wander. Even as a spirit he could still hurt him. He assumed the Masamune allowed Iga that power to touch Devil.

"Master Iga, why do you still do that?" Devil rubs his head looking hurt.

The elder dragon chuckles as he looks kindly at Devil. The scaled face still holds the expression of his former master in it's features. He could always tell his master through his eyes. The kindness they held for him. Growing up with Iga, he held him in the highest regard. He always believed him to be his father, passing his knowledge to his son which was always proud to tell anyone who asked what was his relation to his master was.

"My son, you have been through a lot. I know it has been hard with me passing, but you know that all things must pass. You will have to spread your wings and explore this world you are in and see what it holds for you. You are a master of the Koga style that has been passed on from master to pupil."

Iga sighs as his scaled body seems to shift a bit as he breathes deeply.

"You always were diligent with your studies, but you never listen to the wind of life. Try as I might to get you to enjoy your life, you never seemed to care about anything except for this old fool and the skills I had to teach you. You never wanted to be the leaf on the wind flying through the wind of life. I am not saying to give it all up. But to enjoy your youth before you. Do not deny your baser instincts. What is the true purpose of a sword?"

Devil is surprised by this question as he had heard his master tell him that plenty of times before. But to think of it now, he answers as he did back then, as he was never told he was wrong or right.

"The sword is meant to defend the weak and downtrodden."

"Yes and no."

Devil looks surprised by this.

"The sword is a weapon yes. It is designed to kill as that is what it was built for. But it all depends on who is wielding the sword to make that choice. I know you had a notion that you were a weapon of good and justice. It is good to hold onto that belief. But what you are really running from is you falling into being just that, a weapon. It is true what I said, but it is what you believe in and your experiences that mold you."

Devil is silent by this as he sits there and takes in what was said. Then a he feels a flick on his forehead. He looks at his master who had a look of joy on his face.

"You still are thinking to much. You are a hero in this land but you are also a warrior. And a warrior needs challenges to see where he goes next. Never let the blade inside of you grow dull. I'm not telling you go out there and kill. But know that you are a blade. And blades go dull if not used, which you are in danger of doing. You need to sharpen not only your skills but yourself as well. I am not telling you to abandon your life, but not to run from the challenges before you."

He begins to fade as he waves to Devil. Devil opens his eyes, looking at Masamune as it floats in front of him. He knows what his master said is true. He has been running from it all. He's a master in his own right, but he is also a student who needs to sharpen his blade. If a strong opponent came to challenge him would he have the resolve to fight him? Would his skills be enough? He had to know his limits. He can't let his edge go dull. A knock is heard as he wakes from his meditating.

"Devil? It's Merriot. Can we talk? I have someone who wishes to meet you."

Someone to meet him? He had no one who really wanted to meet him beyond the soldiers and other warriors of the kingdom. Well besides Cyan, but he would have came in on his own.

"Just a second Merriot."

He slowly gets up from his position on the floor and crosses the room to the sliding door open as he is greeted by Merriot and a panther warrior from the looks of it. Something was different about this panther. He had the body of a warrior, but his scent was different. He didn't have the scent of someone who traveled a lot, but more of perfumes and bathing regularly. A noble. Devil face soured up fast from that revelation.

Yet this one was different. He seem to have the aura of a warrior. Not someone who did it for fun, but to be a warrior. The panther noble walks in without a word making Devil scowl at his arrogance. Merriot sees his anger and touches his shoulder making him break his scowl. It was that simple touch that calmed the inner flames of hatred he has been building ever since so many of the higher class made a fuss of Devil being of low born birth. Many would not do anything openly as he did save the land, yet behind the scenes they made all the ruckus.

The panther noble looked around the room, sizing up things as if he was trying to see what kind of person Devil was just from his room. He noticed the panther going for his sword that rested on the mantle. That is when Devil seen the weapon on the panther's hip. Devil was going to tell the panther not to touch it before the panther pulled away and looked at it.

"It is enchanted. I can see it's faint glow. Not any kind either. It is mark to it's true master. I was always wondering why teacher told me never to touch others weapons. I assume it would release some power to repel me," the panther chuckles. "Forgive my rudeness."

He bows before Devil which takes him off guard.

"My name is Herro Yu of the house of Yu. My family is of the great trading empire of which most of the kingdoms and lands use to trade valuables and other goods. Our house has many connections between the lands as we do at times serve as mediators as we are connected to many of the houses and royal families. To be honest, my family had no sights on Merriot. She was suppose to give her life to save the world. So for the Star Sybil to take a mate is unheard of as their life is limited. For them to start a family would make it harder for the Star Sybil to give her life if she had something to live for."

Merriot looks away, thinking she was like that. Her whole life was toward to give her life to seal the dark dragon. Yet that was all shattered by a human. By Devil willing to fight fate. With him by her side, they were able to defeat the dark dragon. Herro smiles as he can see the look on Devil face.

"Don't worry. I am not here for your mate. I believe she has her true love as I have mine. I have no intention of taking her from you my friend. I can call you a friend right? I can also tell you are a trained warrior."

Herro walks around the room as it is sparse, giving it more of a dojo feeling to it. It has rolled bedding mat or two if he needs it to be. Herro can tell who the second one would be for as he smiles. He sees two fighting sticks adore the wall crossing each other. Herro takes them down as he seems to be trying to weigh them in his hands.

"I know you are a great warrior Devil. The battles you have been in have granted you great fame. It is the main reason they have not forced the hand of King Noel to have her married to sate some stupid reason. They only care about the power she possesses. I am sure you know this dear," Herro looks at the kitsune as she seems to lower her tails knowing the truth.

Devil is still trying to understand the panther noble. If he is not here for her, what is his true goal?

"Herro, I know this as does my parents and Devil. Yet what are you after? As you said at dinner you wanted to talk to Devil. Why?" Merriot ask flatly yet her tone gives her hidden anger.

"Merriot, did you know my father had a wild plan to have warriors to accompany you when you fought the dark dragon? He wanted to helped and when we won, he would be praised as a great visionary. He wanted the praise so he could open more routes and crush his rivals. Yet, a lone wolf born of low birth took all the glory. I am not saying you don't deserve it Devil, but you hurt my father's ambitions by winning, as you did with the death knight. You are untouched by all as they fear you, yet at the same time they hate you. To be honest, I could care less. Yet it nags at me....." Herro tosses one of the wooden swords to Devil as he catches it.

"What are you after Herro?" Devil states flatly as Herro takes a stance with the wooden sword.

"It should be obvious slayer of the dark dragon, destroyer of the death knight. To challenge you. To test my might against yours. You are a strong warrior. I can tell my master would look down on me if he knew I did this, challenging you like this," a gleam is seen in the panther's eyes as smiles showing his sharp teeth.

"Then why do this at all if your master will be upset by your actions?" Devil asks but thinking of own master and if he would do something so reckless.

"Why not? I have fought many of my land. I'm praised as a great warrior from where I hail. Yet after your exploits, they dwarfed what I have done. Some question whether I could actually fight you or not in single combat."

With that he is across the room and the wooden blades cross as Devil meets Herro attack.

"You could have just asked," Devil says as he pushes Herro back as as the panther just smiles.

"Yet you would've looked for an excuse not to fight."

Herro is once more on Devil. The panther attacks are a flurry as the wooden stick clash against each other. Devil parries the attacks, but as he does he starts to realize he is actually being pushed back. The death knight was this fast and yet he could feel a blood lust that equaled the death knight from this cat.

"This serves no purpose to battle like this," Devil blocks an attack that could have taken his eye out. Yet he was feeling something he hasn't felt in awhile, a thrill.

"I told you to battle me Devil."

The sticks clash as the sound fills the room. Devil is getting mad as this is his room, not a sparing room. He wanted to battle outside and save the cleaning up. Suddenly the panther warrior charges him, taking Devil off guard as he is tackled and both hit the door leading to the garden of the house as they roll around a bit. Devil kicks Herro off and looking angry. Both wooden swords are destroyed as Devil just drops his.

"I guess that is that."

"NO!" Herro roars, pulling his sword out as it is blood red with a gleam that trails down the sword.

Devil didn't want to battle. Yet something told him to teach this fool a lesson. Herro charges at Devil with the intent of impaling him. Then Herro watched as a a flash of light appeared in Devil's hand as Masamune appeared, glowing slightly. If he wanted to fight, he would give this fool a fight he would never forget. Their swords clash, but as they do Herro looks upset with Devil's actions.

"You say you are a warrior, but you act like a broken doll. "

Devil tries to disarm him with by hitting Herro's wrist with the flat of his blade to make him drop his weapon. Yet when he did attempt it, he hits nothing but air. Herro appears behind him ready to end this sad excuse for a battle. But he is surprised himself as Devil disappears, dashing forward as he skids to a stop.

"Your mind is not here warrior. How can you train anyone with such a clouded mind? How can you call yourself a master when you think of trivial things?"

Herro moves quickly upon Devil as he barely dodges the attacks. Both weapons clash as the sparks fly. Devil is surprised how Herro speed is nearly equal to his own. But why is that? Herro maybe stronger then him, but Devil should be faster. Devil cries out as he is slashed across his arm as Herro smiles a little.

"I bet your master is rolling in his grave over how inept of a pupil you are," Herro states mockingly.

Devil lets out a growl, drawing a kanji in the air as multiple copies appears before Herro. Yet to Devil's surprise, Herro was already taking down his shadow clones with ease, just like the death knight. Devil was starting to get flustered, his mind couldn't think straight or form coherent thoughts as Herro continued his assault. He did his best to block the flurry of attacks, but why was he being overpowered? This shouldn't be happening. Yet here it was.

Devil, for a second, could feel Merriot's fear and apprehension towards him. He shook his head no, telling her not to do anything. He would not ask her for help as this was his problem.

Herro glides across the ground like some dancer. He leaps into the air as his sword becomes of blur. Instead of looking at one, hundreds of swords appear and converge onto him. Devil moves out of the way as they destroy the ground where he was just at. Herro smiles, about to press his attacks again when a loud bang made them both stop and look over to see Merriot looking angry.

"What the hell are you two fools doing? Look at the mess you are doing to my parents garden!" Merriot breaths angrily. "You could've taken him to the forest to battle, not destroy this garden of my family!"

Both look around and see the damage caused. Large holes are in the ground and most of the beautiful flowers are wilted or dug up from their movements. Cyan happens to come by peeking out the ruined sliding door that belonged to Devil's room. He looks at the rampage caused by the two warriors with wide eyes.

"Forgive me princess. It was never my attempt to cause such damage," Herro says, going to one knee and bowing his head deeply. He actually feels fear. The power she posses is no joke. Small wonder why his father wanted him to be her mate. "I am truly sorry princess. I wanted to fight him. I know you would never allow it if you knew I wanted to go all out. As it stands, you need to get him to get his head out of the clouds. His mind is not where it should be."

He looks towards Devil, eyes showing a bit of anger.

"I can sense you are more powerful than I am. You fought me, but you were not here. You were hesitating. That will get you killed and make those who care for you sad." Herro looks at Cyan before giving a smile. "You need to know you are going about this title the wrong way."

"What do you mean?" Devil asks, sheathing Masamune as it floated beside him. "There is no other way."

"There is a way if you get someone of royalty to grant you a title."

"Oh yeah so simple. No royalty wants to grant me anything. And none of the others lords would accept Merriot's father granting me such a title as they say it is a worthless gesture."

Herro smiles and points to Cyan who is trying to hide more as he is shaking with fear as he seems to know something.

"Comeon out fourth Prince of the kingdom of Cytian," Herro beckons the cowering fennec fox as he slowly comes out in fear. "Princess Merriot and Devil meet Prince Cyan of the kingdom Cytian. He can get you to the queen, his mother, to grant you the title. If another kingdom does it, the other kingdoms and clans cannot say anything."

Devil is speechless as Cyan has never talked about his past before.

"Is this true Cyan?"

It is silent for a bit as the only thing is heard is the wind blowing. Cyan breathes a bit then looks up at Merriot and then looks at Devil.

"Yes, it's true. I'm the fourth crowned prince of the Cytian. Please don't send me back. I don't want to go home."

He cringes as if Devil was going to hit him. Yet Devil is just confused by all this. Devil walks up to the young fennec fox as he looks away from him.

"Please Cyan, I would never send you away. But if you can help me, please try. You might be our last hope. Will you help me?"

Those words seem to make Cyan smile.

"Do you promise not to leave me back there?"

"I would never do that. You are a good friend and fun to have around."

Cyan looks away for a second and is jumping for joy inside to be called a friend. He wants more, but this will do for now.

"I will help you and the princess, Devil. Just like a true friend."

///////

Devil sat in the carriage with a bored expression on his face. He feels the breeze against his fur as the trees sway with the gentle wind. It still feels weird to feel wind on his fur. It's hard to forget his past, what he use to be. He feels a paw on his as he looks over to Merriot and gives her a smile.

He realized the day he took her underneath the cherry blossom tree, she was the one. Yet this world was against it. They never saw him as her equal despite his deeds. But hopefully that would change. They were heading to a place they believed they could get that elusive title for Devil. No kingdom would accept him receiving a title from Noel despite him being a lord of his land. This way the nobles and royalty could try and take Merriot as their own so she could be brought into their bloodline and give them an offspring. An offspring that would inherit the power of the Star Sybil.

Now that Fafnir was vanquished, her power was no longer needed for such things as a sacrifice. Now, she was seen as a pawn for many of the countries to be exploited. Devil realized after all this time thinking why he was really hated. He was the one Merriot loved which meant that he was the only thing standing between her and the royalty and nobles. For the longest time, any Star Sybil family had the tradition of sacrificing their chosen child to die to let others live.

Now that curse was gone now and their child was free to live and be loved by the one she chose. Devil was the one she loved and now she wanted to him to be her mate officially. Now they were allowed to have that chance. It all laid on Cyan. No, prince Cyan Melmark. He had no honorifics such as the second or third.

When pressed about finding out his lineage, he clammed up fast and began to cry, saying he didn't want to go home. He was happy being with Devil and his student because he was treated with respect, and not as something others saw as trash.

Devil didn't understand. He assumed being a prince would be a great thing. At least he wasn't like the other royalty where they treated everyone beneath them. Devil saw something different in Cyan. He saw someone who cared and at times, he caught Cyan looking at him dreamily. He didn't understand why until Merriot told Devil that it was more than that, it was sorta like puppy love.

Herro excused himself after their little scrimmage saying he had what he wanted in a sense. He asked Devil to met once more to battle. Herro leaned in and asked him not to bring Merriot as he wanted to see who was really strong between the two of them one day. Bringing her would make her stop them from really have fun. Despite saying that, Herro invited them all to visit his estate that belonged to his family that was near the fox's kingdom. Now they were in the carriage heading to Cyan's home, the kingdom of Damas.

Cyan explained during the carriage ride that he was ridiculed and beaten by his brothers. His step-mother did little or ignored it as he was not her son. He was born out of a fling his father the king had with a maid of the castle. After his birth, Cyan was taken in as her son. Though Cyan had little illusions of ascending the throne one day, it still did not help his standing among his brothers. They did what they could to make his life miserable. His father died a few years ago as he had a poor heart. As the queen, his step mother, ascended the throne she did little to help any.

He hated his life till that point. No one cared or cared if he stayed. He left at night to find a new life. Yet he had little real world knowledge. One of the reasons he was nearly killed by bandits. That is when his life changed and he met Devil, well more like Devil saved him.

He saw how Devil dispatched the bandits with little movement. Not a single attack seem wasted. It was than he found his master and something more. Yet that part he keep hidden from Devil as Cyan found out who his mate was. As much as the little fox thought he could love Devil, he could not compete with the beauty of Merriot.

Cyan thought of a different path to get Devil's attention. He found out the wolf was teaching the guards of Merriot's land. Devil gave him a chance to be something different. To be someone different. Someone stronger who could do more to protect others like him.

To Cyan, Devil was the perfect male. He seem to be what an ideal male should be. Yet he knew seeing Devil and Merriot together, he had no place in Devil's heart. Yet he would do all he could to impress Devil. To receive some praise from him was enough. Now to be asked to help Devil gained him some favor.

It was in his mother's power to grant some warriors a title. This would actually help Devil. Something that would make Devil notice him. Yet would his mother allow this to happen?

He thought this was the best way to be seen by Devil. Yet at the same time, Cyan was conflicted by helping Devil and not wanting to go home. He had no good memories of home. His mother was gone, his father was gone. And he knew his step mother cared little for him and he knew his brothers cared nothing for him.

Yet he hoped Devil would notice him. For his efforts for helping him. He felt a bit uncomfortable with Devil staring him down. He knew why as he seem to try to understand him now. Cyan was a prince who hid his linage from Devil. He was always afraid this would come. The truth of his life. Yet he didn't want Devil to think less of him. The lies were already spoken and now he felt worse now since he had lied. It takes a bit for Cyan to come out of his thoughts as a tail tickles him and sees a smiling Merriot.

"We are not mad little one. You had your reasons to keep your past away. You have done nothing wrong."

Cyan looks down as at his true symbol of his linage, a dagger with his family's crest on it. It was a shield with four colors on it with a spear and a sword crossing it. He hated it as it reminded him of where he came from. He hated the royal line as they never saw him as a bastard child. Cyan wonder if his mother never revealed who he was and keep it hidden. Would he be happier not knowing Cyan, believing he would be happier being a commoner?

Cyan looked out the window of the carriage and sees the familiar landscape. The mountains in the distance as they are said to hold much wealth and much danger. Many fortune seekers have lost their lives looking to find that fortune buried under the mountain. It was said his ancestors buried an ancient treasure there. What he had no clue, but it drew many there. Only the royal family knew of it and where it was located. Not that Cyan cared as he was never told despite being of the royal family.

They should be arriving at the gates soon that lead to town. Then it was a few minutes ride to the castle. It seem different here. More medieval as Devil saw the people here walking around the town. Many looked like from an old medieval shows he watched on television in his world. The population seem to made of mostly vulpine and a few dog breeds. The people walked around wearing clothing that had that handmade look.

Devil felt this world is a mix of his world but yet he had no problem as this was his home now. Best not to try to change things. Yet he was going to do just that. He was going try to get a title and have Merriot as his mate. Even though they already saw each other mates, Noel wanted it to be official so no one would try to force him to marry her away.

Devil felt the carriage stop as he sees that they are in the courtyard. He really spaced out as Merriot looks at him worried. She takes his paw into hers.

"Are you ok? "

Devil smiles and caress her muzzle gently. She closes her eyes as he does this. He learned quickly his touch always made her feel at ease. Cyan is already outside the carriage as he waits.

"Come my love, lets see the queen quickly and end this. Hopefully we can appeal to her. If we say we will keep Cyan maybe she will grant my title."

Cyan looks happy with that prospect. A lean fox walks forward, his clothing he can tell is of high quality. He smiles at them and especially at Cyan before hugging Cyan in a warm embrace much to the fennec fox dismay.

"My brother, you have returned! Mother was worried about you so much. What has happen to you? Who are these travelers who brought you home?" the fox prince says.

"Elder brother, I wanted to see the world. I assumed none of you would care. I just didn't want to be a burden to anyone here," Cyan says and moves away from his brother as if he was not the same one who use abused him.

The brother seemed to ignore Cyan's words as his eyes lock on Merriot. He seems to be looking over her. No, that wasn't right word. He was lusting for her, Devil can see that in his eyes. The prince takes Merriot's paw and pulls it to his muzzle and inhales her scent. He could smell the scent of flowers and beauty. Without a second thought, he suddenly brings her close and is about to kiss her when he feels a steel sheath on his muzzle lips. He opens his eyes to see Merriot smiling and Devil in her place. The prince can feel the blood lust coming from the wolf. The prince steps back and tries to stare down Devil yet it is he who stands down as he can feel the intense stare.

"Forgive me princess Merriot. I didn't know your body guard was so possessive," he says with smirk..

"He is my mate," Merriot replies back.

"That's rich. He is nothing but a commoner. If anything, I can give you much dear. With our bloodline, we could do so much more. I, Prince Rain has slayed a dragon and fought in many battles."

Merriot just sighs as she has heard this from many of the nobles and other royalty. Puffing up their accomplishments. She figured he fought a feral dragon whelp, not a full adult. Rain just looks smug as Merriot takes Devil's paw so he does not fly off the handle.

"Prince Rain, we have come seeking an audience with the queen. Could you please tell her we wish to speak to her about an important matter."

Rain seems to understand as he sees that Devil is ready to attack. Despite not having his sword drawn, he can see Devil's body tense. Rain sighs as he looks a bit upset by all this.

"I am happy for my brother's return as my mother the Queen will want to reward you for doing so."

His tone gives off a sound of arrogance. Gone is the pleasant tone he greeted them with which all three realizing that he was acting from the start. He walks off as Cyan seems to shrink from him as he gets a look from his elder brother. Merriot stops Devil and pulls him close.

"I beg you control yourself. I can see what is happening here. They are testing us. They have to know what we are approaching them for. It seems they want to play a game with us. Everything that happens will test us. I may have been raised to fight and die to protect the lands from Fafnir, but I was raised to understand fighting like this."

Devil knows she is right. He sees all this has been more of a joke with them to make Devil look bad. Devil lashing out as he did makes it looks like he is not worthy of holding a title. Yet what made them any better than he was? As if they had any standing to say he was not worthy of her. He just smiles as Merriot lets his paw go and begins her walk to follow Cyan. Devil snaps out of his thoughts as he hears a paige announce their arrival.

"From the kingdom of Linnuis east of here, Princess Merriot and her mate Devil. "

Both Merriot and Devil look surprised by this. They see Cyan near the paige with a sly smile as he had this done to piss off everyone. Devil flashes the little fox a smile as he blushes from that. The elder brother looks angry by this as he speaks up.

"This will not stand! You have no right to claim her commoner!" Rain shouts.

The other brothers just smile at their foolish brother's outburst. Devil just breathes as he remains calm. Cyan walks before Devil and Merriot and arrives before the queen.

"Mother, I have returned. I am sorry for any inconvenience my leaving has caused," he kneels before the queen.

The queen looks at them. She seems to be of an older age as they could see some grey in her fur but she still looks like someone you could love. She doesn't look like one who gave birth to anyone as her figure is slim. But you can't tell with all the garments that cover her body. She was a normal vixen, red fur with black paws and white fur that travels from the lower part of her muzzle down her body. Her eyes show some love towards Cyan as she looks at the young fennec fox.

"Rise my child. I have sent many to look for you. You have given your brothers and I much to fret over."

She looks up as Merriot and Devil both bow to her.

"Greetings friends of my son." Those word Devil notices make Cyan flinch."What brings you to our lands?" She smiles, but her eyes change as they show something else now. Now she was going to try to make small talk.

Merriot smiles as she plays her part.

"My queen, we have traveled with your son who is a student of my life mate Devil. We have come on important business. to discuss with you if you would be so kind to hear our request."

The queen face seems to twitch at the words Merriot said. Devil knows fully what they were at, 'life mate.' To make sure all knew here that they were not going to go through any marriage discussions with the other brothers. The brothers faces became dark. The queen looks down at her as she rises from her throne.

"You dare little kitsune, come here and think you're above us? Yes, I know why you are here. You seek to have that worthless mutt besides you to be your mate. We are the last chance you have. Why should we give him anything? He has done nothing to be worthy of a title."

She smiles and looks at Devil as she comes down from the throne as a lynx follows behind her. Devil sees him as he seems to glide behind her with a cloak covering his movements. Devil can sense the power form the clocked warrior.

"Maybe I'll think about if you allow me to lay with your mate. I'll determine if he is worthy of being your mate. Maybe I'll keep him so you don't have to worry about such a low born being near you."

Merriot is about to say something as Devil's anger builds, fists balling tightly. His anger was coming forth making the lynx warrior make movement under his cloak. Before anything could escalate a voice breaks through.

"I demand the right of challenge mother!"

All turn to see Cyan standing there looking mad. One of the brothers laugh at the outburst.

"What makes you think you can do this half brother?!"

The words bite Cyan but he looks determined to go through what he was going to do.

"I demand the right to fight for Devil's title that he deserves. He will be my champion. If he wins mother, he will be given the title by you publicly."

The queen looks surprised by this as she seems to mull over this until she smiles.

"What do I get if I win? You have little to give my 'son'."

At this, Merriot steps forward.

"I will offer myself to your eldest son with no hesitation. As a sign of good will."

The eldest look happy at this prospect as the other brothers look at him with great envy. The queen thinks it over as she heads back to the throne before taking a seat and smiles.

"Very well then. My warrior Bernet will be my champion. The duel will take place tomorrow at noon. Be prepared little kitsune. You will be part of my family soon. Until then, make use of the north tower for sleep and rest with your so called mate, for as long as that will be."

She laughs mockingly as she gets up and leaves. Rain makes sweet kisses towards Merriot before leaving as well. Cyan looks a bit nervous as he walks up to Merriot.

"Merriot, why did you offer yourself up? I was going to have myself exiled if Devil lost. You didn't have to do this."

Merriot looks at the little fox as she walks over to her love.

"I have faith little one. Devil has never lied to me nor given me any reason to doubt his skill."

Devil smiles as he caress her face.

"No my love. I haven't nor will I ever."

Cyan looks a bit ashamed at thinking less of Devil knowing his skills from all the training he has given.

"Devil you'll need to prepare for this battle. I can tell you what his abilities are."

"I'm good little one. Best rest up for the day to come. I don't want to show my hand before the battle to come. I know they will have spies to see what I do. I intend to give them nothing."

Cyan smiles and nods. He tells them both he is going to see his real mother and see how she is doing. He will see them in the morning.

///////

Devil and Merriot are escorted to their room. The room is a modest room, but big enough for the both of them.

"Well, no sleeping on the floor for tonight at least," Devil says cheerfully.

Merriot know he's has been sleeping on a futon his whole time with her. So to be on a bed like this must seem to be a pleasure he has not had in awhile.

"How about we see how sturdy the bed is my love?" she says seductively.

She begins to undress slowly. As she does, her tails begin to glow as the room is filled with a light. Devil knows what she's doing. The spell her mother taught her to have privacy when they mated. Devil also began to remove his clothing as he comes from behind, holding her close as he rested his head next to hers.

"I love you more than anything Merriot. I won't lose to them or anyone. Nothing will stop me from being with you, my life mate."

Merriot turns around to look at Devil, complete love in her eyes as she wraps her arms around his neck.

"Then show me Devil."

Their lips meet as they kiss each other, softly at first before turning their muzzles and making it deeper. They slowly inched their way to the bed and plopped down on it, Merriot on top of Devil as he trailed his paws up and down her back making her tails twitch and wrap around his wrists. She sits up on his waist, paws roaming his chest making him murr softly as she giggled.

"Aren't you happy I made you a wolf? Mating seems to be a lot more intense and pleasurable."

"Somewhat. Still not use to the whole tying aspect of it," Devil smiles, trailing his paws up her side making her shiver.

"I admit mating with a human was interesting. But nothing beats being tied all night with the love of your life. Wouldn't you agree?"

Devil smiled before sitting up and nibbling her neck, making her gasp, ears folded as she held him close.

"I agree. It is a bit different. But the pleasure you give me overrides everything."

She smiles at that, grinding her hips against the heat she felt making her fur slick with pre that drooled from Devil's tip. With a smile, she pushes him back on the bed before turning around, tails swatting him in the face playfully. She gripped that rigid cock, stroking it softly making Devil whine and buck his hips. Her tongue lashed out over the tip, tasting the pre she was coaxing out with joy. Slowly her muzzle encased Devil's length, feeling his body tense and shiver. The scent coming from him made her head spin with want. She could still smell a little bit his human side, but it was slowly being replace with his new form.

"God Merriot," Devil whined before his nose picked up her scent.

Opening his eyes, he could see her wet lips drip with her arousal onto his chest. Her smell could always make him go crazy with lust. It was almost scary how much he would lose control and pound her hard and fast. She never complained because that's how she wanted it from her love. With a growl, he ran his tongue over her opening making her tails go stiff as she moaned with her mouth full, speeding up her motions. He pushed his tongue into her with a slurp, feeling her walls collapse around it. The sound of their actions was the only thing you could hear thanks to her spell. His tongue pushed into her body, tickling that bundle of nerves making her head shoot up and yip loudly as Devil grinned, knowing what he did as repeated it over and over. She couldn't wait any longer as her body burned and craved for more. Her tails tickled his chin making him stop and look at her, licking his lips with joy.

She turned around, eyes narrowing as she crawled over Devil. Their muzzles locked again, tasting each other essence taking their lust higher. She broke with a soft growl, nipping his nose. Breathlessly, she raised her hips up, lining the tip with her opening before sliding down with a moan from both parties. Devil held her hips tightly, feeling that welcoming, slick heat surround him.

"Take me Devil. Make me howl your name."

Devil grinned at that before lifting her up and spinning her around again as her tails hiked up high. He got behind her, teasing her opening with his cock making her shiver and whine as her tails tried to pull him in. He knows he shouldn't tease her but it was so much fun. Pushing in earned a groan from both parties as he began the motions. No matter how many times they mated, she always seemed so tight around him. Slowly he pulled out before pushing back in with a little force making her yip in pleasure.

"That's it Devil, just like that."

Devil let out a growl, picking up the pace as he smashed his hips repeatedly into hers. Merriot whined, tails wrapping around Devil holding him tight. He leaned over her back, interlocking their paws as he nibbled her neck, panting hotly. She squeezed his paw, shivering in pleasure as she nuzzled him, pushing back into his rapid thrusts. He gave a grin knowing she was going to lose it soon. She was always the first to cum.

"That's it love.....let yourself go for me."

Merriot let out a loud whine before a loud yelp escaped her. Her tunnel became slicker and tighter making Devil grunt from the extra simulation before coming to a stop after prolonging her climax. She looked behind her shoulder, eyes glazed and panting hard.

"Why'd you....stop love?"

"I prefer looking into your eyes. Not that this view is bad," Devil chuckled.

She chuckled at that as Devil laid down at the head of bed. She slowly crawled her way over him, tails wagging happily behind her as her eyes held that lustful look. Their muzzles met lovingly as she eased herself back onto that pulsing rod. Her body moved quickly, the pleasure starting to cloud her brain. A growl escaped her as she looked at Devil, teeth bared slightly as she felt him run his paws up and down her back. Their bodies connected with lewd slaps as the combined fluids started to mat their groins. But that didn't stop them. It only seem to turn them on even more as Devil gripped her hips and push upward, meeting her thrusts and pushing deeper into that slick tunnel. Soon, that familiar ball of muscle started to form at the base making her yip with each push into her body.

"Tie me my love. Become one with me again and again," Merriot panted.

Devil growled at that and spun them around making her yip in surprise as she laid on her back. He placed her legs behind his back and proceeded to drive into her body, the bed springs moaning in protest. Merriot howled in pleasure, claws digging into Devil's back as she could feel the power he was giving her. Another climax ripped through her body causing a snarl to form in Devil's throat feeling those walls convulse and squeeze him. His knot was fully developed, battering her opening and demanding entrance. He pushed harder, claws digging into the bed for better leverage. Soon, that delicious warmth encircled his knot making his toes curl and whine softly. He looked down at his love, staring into those beautiful eyes. She moved her paws from his back to hold his face gently, bringing him down and kissing him.

"I love you so much Merriot."

"I love you to Devil."

Soon that itch in his balls couldn't be denied any longer as he pushed and pull as far as the tie would let him, all the while looking into her eyes. He still couldn't believe he found his soulmate, and an animal at that. Nothing would ever come between them, he would make sure of that. She belonged to him, as he belonged to her. He could feel it coming hard, body shaking in anticipation as he moved his hips faster. Merriot pulled his body down on top of her, loving the warmth as his scent filled her nose. Devil couldn't hold on any longer, panting hard before pushing as deep as he could and let out a howl, which was still weird for him to do. Merriot joined him, feeling the hot, sticky seed fill her womb as she milked him for every drop. They held each other in silence, hearts beating as one.

"Your not tired yet are you?" Merriot murred into his ear.

"I still got a little juice left in me."

"Good. Because I plan to squeeze it all out of you."

////////

Devil is slow to wake up as he feels a bit tired from last night activities. Looking down, he sees Merriot sound asleep, her muzzle on his chest as her paw interlocked with his holding him close. Something else nagged at him as he looked over to where he placed Masamune to find it wasn't there. He scowls as he knows he can just summon it at will. It must be some kind of underhanded attempt at him to lose at the duel later on today. He knew they would do something like this. He was going to refrain from using his skills he learned from his master until the time was right. Best to put on a show for all the uppity nobles who think they are better then him.

He stops thinking about all these useless thoughts he has floating in his head. It would do no good in battle. Herro woke him up to the fact he has been overthinking things. Best to keep his mind on his goal as he is here to receive a title. He is unsure what weapon his opponent will use or how strong this lynx really is.

Cyan told him to be careful with his mother. She loved to play these kind of games. Devil figured she was the one who had his weapon stolen. That would go over well, him saying she had it stolen. For all he knew it was one of her spoiled children.

Yet he figured it was for the best. This would give him a chance to test his limits. With Herro, he saw he was still lacking in a few departments. Even with Masamune, he was unable to beat him outright. After that battle, it would only serve to make Herro train harder to beat Devil. The panther warrior would not be as lenient with him in their next encounter.

Still, Merriot had place a barrier around the room so they could be left alone to have their fun. For them to slip in and take it with her power, means they have their own means to suppress it or outright dispel it. Devil lays there as he closes his eyes to feel Masamune. He can feel the connection between them, still as strong as ever.

He looks at the sleeping kitsune as she cuddles closer to him, feeling her tails curl around his body possessively. It seemed she was afraid he would leave her one day as he did when he went back to his world after he defeated the dark dragon.

Despite how strong she has become after taking him as her mate, she is still terrified he will leave her. She told him one night that if he left, her world would crumble. Yes she followed him back to his world, but she saw him for what he was. Not just some human, but her love. Now he was here to show he would do anything to stay with her. Being here was proof of that. For her to offer herself as a prize showed how much she loved him. He would prove that the trust in him would not be in vain. He would show the queen he was not some commoner. He wasn't just a hero either. But he was someone who would do anything for his love. He let out a sigh and held Merriot close as he fell back to a peaceful slumber.

////////

Cyan wakes with a start, trying to figure out where he is. Then it hits him. He is back home. He sighs as looks depressed, ears wilted as he sits on the bed thinking why was he really here. He hated his home. It felt empty as his mother was not around. Not the queen, but his birth mother. She was a maid of the castle whom the king loved and had an affair with.

He was born from that forbidden love. It is a common tale with many royals. The king and queen sire heirs for the kingdom, yet the love for each other is empty so each find lovers. He was born from such an affair. She kept it hidden from the king, not wanting her child to be part of anything to do with her royal lover. Cyan grew up not knowing he was from royalty and was a servant like his mother as he grew up.

When he reached the age of ten it came out about the affair and about his heritage. The king laid in bed, injured in battle. As he laid there, he came out and claimed Cyan as his son. This upset the queen to no end, thinking Cyan would usurp her children.

Cyan wanted nothing to do with it. He wanted to be a normal servant, not some pampered prince. It made him feel out of place. He slowly grew to know his father, but their time together was limited as his injury grew worse, until finally one night, he never opened his eyes. The kingdom mourned for their king. It was read in the will that Cyan would receive the title of earl and receive a small piece of land.

The queen would have none of that. So she took it away from him by accepting him as her child. He wished he never was a prince. Every day was more stuff to be made to make him feel inferior. Whether it was archery, studying, or some other thing he and his siblings were being taught, he was always made to feel inferior.

The queen did nothing to stop it. She would only stop if they went too far. She forbade any serious harm to him. Yet why was he a prince? He had no desire to take the crown. He had brothers who would ascend the crown before he would. So he ran away. To his fated destiny. He met Devil who had shown him a path he never thought he could never have.

Now he was back home. He saw the clothing the servants had laid out. He hated it. He wish he could have seen his mother, but she moved on and married a coyote lord. She had never gotten in contact with Cyan after she left. Another reason he left.

But he was here to help Devil and Merriot. Despite his love for the black wolf, he was here for them. He had to come clean after he was found out. Yet Devil seem not to care about Cyan being a prince, but that he could actually get him the title he needed.

Why did he feel this way? He didn't want to be like this. He knew he had no place in his heart as he had a mate. Yet for a brief second, he would like Devil to lose so Merriot would not be in his way. Yet he knew Devil would still care for her.

The words of his mother came to his mind: 'Know you are of royalty. I know you are born out of a love that could never give you your right place in the world. But know you can only achieve that happiness if you strive for it my child.' The happiness he seeks he can not achieve. But to help Devil would make him happy as he would be happy. He would make sure Devil would be happy no matter what.

As he begins to dress, he hears voices. As they get closer, he can hear Merriot whom seems to be yelling and Devil seems to be trying to calm her down. Cyan is a bit unsure why they would be arguing. Maybe Devil lost it and killed one of his brothers. Not a bad prospect, but not good in helping Devil getting a title. Still the thought brought a smile to his muzzle. Just as Cyan opens the door to his room Merriot comes in, the fur on her tails standing on end.

"I should rip this kingdom down brick by brick. Such low down tactics to win knowing he would get his furry rump kick by Devil. How can you be so calm?" she growls at Devil.

Cyan takes a step back as he can feel the power from Merriot.

"Now now dear. I'm not worried. I can retrieve the Masamune anytime I wish. I told you before it comes when I need it. I can sense it actually. It's over there," he points out the window.

Cyan looks out to where Devil points and knows where that spot is. A warehouse of the kingdom which contains many materials used in trade and storage for the royal army.

"I can go there and retrieve it," Cyan said sounding happy as if it is a mission.

Devil smiles as his canines show. "No little one, it'll be fine. I want to see what he has. I sense great power from this warrior."

Merriot looks mad at him when he says that, crossing her arms.

"You want to play with him? You don't care about getting a title?"

"How can you say that Merriot? I'm here for that reason. It's a side pleasure that I get to beat this fool. I want them to feel despair when I take it all from them."

Devil seems to be taking much pleasure in that he wants to really to enjoy this battle. Merriot seems upset by this as she scowls at him. Devil sees this and stops his gleeful smile on his muzzle.

"Look Merriot, these nobles and royalty have done everything to break us apart. They see me nothing more than a commoner who got lucky and you as a tool to exploit. It's our turn to show what they really are, cowards. Cowards who are afraid of someone who is not of true birth. They wish to make a show of us, then I will give them a show they will never forget.," he says before he pulls her into a kiss.

Cyan blushes a bit then it hits him. "Just a second Devil."

Both stop kissing seeing the little fennec fox run off to another room. He comes back with a sword looking very expensive.

"My father had it made for me. All his children have a weapon made for them. It is more for ceremonial but it can be used in battle."

Devil pulls the sword out, feeling the weight. It has a nice balance to it. Not made for him, more for Cyan to wield, but still a nice sword.

"Thank you Cyan. I will make sure to bring this back to you. Can't promise in one piece though," Devil smiles.

"No worries Devil. I am honored that you are using it. It will finally be put to good use. I never liked the sword. Mostly because it was just given to me by a servant of the castle. My father had it commissioned, but never really gave it to me like my brothers received theirs during the coming of age celebration. I wasn't worthy of that my stepmother said," he bites out bitterly.

"Don't worry. I won't embarrass her to much unless she ask for it," Devil smiles, yet it falters when he looks at an angry Merriot.

"You know she is going to cheat. Yet you go forward knowing that. Why Devil?"

"To prove I am worthy of you Merriot. To show all those who said no to us. Our love is stronger than those fools believe. It is not some one night stand. Nor some lust we have. It is love. If they need me to battle all those fools for you Merriot, I will do that. You mean that much to me and more."

Cyan listens to this and knows deep down he will never have that spot in Devil's heart he wishes he could have. Yet to make Devil happy, he will do all he can to support their love. For as long as Devil is happy, he will be happy, and that'll have to be enough.

Yet when they arrived, they knew it look like it was already set against them. Like it was a forgone conclusion that Devil would lose. Many nobles and those connected to the royal family seem to think that Merriot already belong to the eldest son.

Devil looked at the ring that was set up in the courtyard. There was nothing special about it. A large cement ring that was a couple of feet off the ground with stairs leading up it. More then likely if one was to fall off and hit the ground, it would mean said person lost. But if Devil would to fall, he would lose whereas if the other person fell, the fight would continue. Devil knew already he had to fight to win. Nothing else matter. His mate's freedom was on the line.

His opponent was already in the center of the ring waiting for Devil. He held a spear with an ornament at the hilt of the spear's point. It seemed to be a very elaborate design. The spear tip that is, but a basic spear nonetheless. He assumed the warrior would have a sword as their weapon of choice. Still he could work around that. He walked up the short flight of stairs and stood close to the Bernet as the lynx stands ready for battle, only waiting for his queen word to attack Devil. He gives Devil a look of superiority. As if Devil is nothing more than a simple foot soldier.

The queen arrives as everybody stands and bows their heads. Bernet bows and Devil follows suit, if only to show respect and nothing more. Last thing he needed was to disrespect her and get in trouble for that. The queen stands at the throne like chair as she looks at both warriors and gives a slight smile. Then Devil hears a startled cry from Merriot as she is shackled.

"Mother what is the meaning of this!? The battle has not been determined yet. Why are you doing this?" Cyan shouts.

The queen gives a motherly smile towards Cyan.

"We don't wish for Merriot to help her lover. I hate to see if she cheated for him. So many things were said about his battle prowess. Yet I have to see this for myself. It maybe just rumors. Merriot is the Star Sybil and her power is rivaled by none. I believe Devil here is just riding her coat tails. No, he will have to prove his worth."

Merriot growls at the guards near her. "Know this queen, whatever happens here my father will not stand for this. If by some chance Devil loses, you will still suffer for this indignity you place upon me."

"Whatever you say dear," the queen says with a simple smile. "But you will still belong to my son. I doubt your father will do anything to his future in laws."

The queen smiles thinking she has already won as she takes her seat along with everyone else as she motions for the match to begin.

"May the fighters fight for the honor of their patrons. Begin!" a lone paige fox shouts out loud near the queen.

Devil sighs hearing her sound so sure of herself. He still has his own power and Masamune which he can summon. He needs to see what power this lynx warrior has before he pulls his trump card. He was not going to use trick or his power. He was going to show them all his true skill. Yet he had to see the extent of Bernet's power.

Bernet stands before Devil ready to battle. Something about his weapon was off, but he couldn't place it. Bernet hadn't taken a stance most would with a weapon like that. Devil has seen the guards hold it a certain way with the tip out ready to strike with a forward thrust. Yet Bernet holds it close as to swing it like a long club. Devil draws out the sword that he was given by Cyan.

Devil can hear those gathered for the battle whispering when they are going to fight as both combatants circle each other waiting for the other to attack. Devil snarls as he looks at Merriot seeing her shackled as she is. With that Devil falls forward a bit, then takes off in a flash as he charges in a low rush at Bernet. The lynx smiles as he raises the spear high as it glows and becomes a halberd, coming down hard and fast towards the approaching Devil.

At the last second, Devil rolls out of the way as he barely avoids the weapon as it sinks into the ground. Looking stuck, Devil takes the chance to attack. Once more, he runs to attack as the weapon shines and changes, becoming a sword now. He takes a stance ready for Devil's attack.

Damn, he had some kind of magical weapon. This was not going to be easy because he could change it for whatever he needs it to be. He had little recourse but to hope he was a better warrior than this lynx was. Best to test the waters then. Devil takes a deep breath as he closes his eyes, calming his mind and body. He opens his eyes and charges at the lynx warrior. Their swords clash as sparks fly, Devil pressing his attack trying to pierce his defense as he blocks most of Devil's attacks or dodges the rest. Then the weapon glows again as the sword changes into a hook like blade which catches Devil's sword. With a quick yank Devil is unarmed. Bernet smiles thinking he has won. Yet Devil is not without other skills.

Devil steps in before the he can gloat, grabbing the chain mail he was wearing and throws him over his shoulder with ease. Bernet is taken off guard, not expecting Devil to do this as he hits the ground hard. A shadow falls on him as he sees Devil in the air, driving his knee into the Bernet chest. He feels the air in his lungs leave him as he coughs and gasp for air. He hears Devil roll back up swiftly and run for his sword.

Bernet growls a bit, not believing he got tossed like a piece of trash. He flips up quickly, the sword glowing as it becomes a bow and arrow. He pulls back on the string and releases, the three arrows whistling through the air towards it intended target. He smiles thinking he couldn't stop the arrows in time as he was busy with recovering his weapon. The crowd that was roaring Bernet's praises, went silent at what happened. Devil had caught all three with one hand with his back turned. With a tightening of his hand, he breaks the arrows and then recovers his weapon.

Bernet thinks how skilled he is. Maybe what the queen said about Devil was wrong. And the rumors of his battle skills was not rumors, but true. Yet Bernet had the holy weapon known as Chalfon. It was handed to him by the queen as he became her personal bodyguard. After the king's death, he was allowed to wield it. It was the King's favorite weapon.

Bernet was surprised as he saw Devil was retrieving the sheath for the sword. He went to the side lines towards Cyan and handed him back his sword which seemed to upset him a little. Devil patted his head and smiled as he looked towards Merriot. Something passed between them as he couldn't figure out what. But whatever was said between them made the princess smile. Devil walked back towards Bernet, stopping a few yards between them as Bernet changed Chalfon back to a sword.

"I'm ending this farce. I have played your games for long enough," Devil states.

"What do you intend to do wolf? You have no weapon," Bernet barks out angrily.

"I just wanted to see your skills. You are good Bernet. With that weapon you could have won. Yet your skills are not equal to mine. You seem to forget I have my own weapon, that was taken from me," his eyes look at the queen who just glares at Devil.

Devil's tattoo started to glow as he held his hand out. A light glows before Devil as it takes a shape of a katana. It was the one he had come with the day he arrived. Devil grasps the weapon and smiles as he moves the sword to his side as it is still in its sheath. Devil smiles as he bends his knees, hand on the hilt of Masamune at his side. His stance shows much about him. Bernet felt fear as the stance shows no openings, making Bernet take a step back.

"Let's end this," Devil says with no emotion.

Devil's feet dig a bit into the ground. Then he takes off forward in a flash. Bernet attempts to block his attack as their weapons collide. To his shock, he is actually pushed back little by little. Bernet thinks this should not possible as he changes the weapon to a spear and tries to impale Devil. But all he is able to hit is Devil's after image as his attacks hit nothing but air.

"What's wrong Bernet? You can do better than this?" Devil taunts.

The crowd is mumbling about how could Devil be this strong as Merriot smiles knowing he love will win this battle. Cyan can barely keep up with Devil as he seems to be everywhere at once. Bernet is breathing hard, twin swords in his paws. All he could see was blurs of Devil's image as they circled around him.

"What's wrong? I can go faster if you want. Surely you can keep up."

Bernet's eyes try to focus as the images start to fade and Devil stands before him with a smile.

"I'll give a you chance. Yield now and you'll leave with your ego bruised and not your body. Continue this folly, and I might kill you."

Bernet growls loudly as he looks at Devil, gripping his weapon tightly.

"Death before dishonor!!"

"Very well," Devil says as he holds Masamune to his side, the blade glowing a dark purple. "Don't say I didn't warn you."

Devil took a step forward, making Bernet take a step back. This got a smile from the wolf as he took off like a flash and disappeared. Bernet's body started to shake as Devil ran down blows left and right. The crowd went silent as they saw their champion look like a weakling compared to this wolf. When the attacks stopped, Devil stood there, Masamune in the air as it glowed a dark blue. With a deep growl, Devil lashed forward causing a massive wave of power surging towards Bernet. It connected with a bang as everyone covered their eyes from the light. When the light died down, they saw Bernet on the ground, unmoving.

Devil spins Masamune before sheathing it. He closes his eyes as he takes a deep breath letting his heart calm down. He starts to walk over to the queen as her sons look like they seen a ghost. The queen's face is filled with intense hatred that is directed towards Devil. Devil simply nods towards Cyan and smiles at Merriot who is beaming with such pride. Then he does what no one expects. He kneels before the Queen.

Nothing is said as he waits. It was her move now. She could no longer hide behind anything. Her word was given. If Devil won, she would grant him the title he sought for. Now Devil was forcing her to live up to her part of the bargain. She stands up as she walks down the small flight of stairs over to him.

"The ceremonial sword," she speaks softly.

It is presented to her as she takes it and holds it before her. She taps both shoulders of Devil before handing it back.

"I grant you the title of Baron. Rise, Baron Devil."

She gives him a small smile but it vanishes as she leaves. The crowd claps but not really into it. He sighs thinking he could care less. He looks over at Merriot as one of the brothers releases her from her chains. With a quick gesture, she makes him fly a bit into some of the guards. Devil smiles as he walks over to his mate.

"We did it my love! Nothing can stop us now."

She smiles back and gives him a kiss.

"No my love. Nothing can."

////////

Devil looks in the mirror, fixing his tux. He feels a bit silly as he wags his tail a bit. His father-in-law told him if his tail felt ok when he moved it, it was on right. Otherwise he would be uncomfortable the whole ceremony. He gives a smile thinking what his friends would think if they saw him now. He can barely think about that world now. He had a new world to live in, and a new future to forge with Merriot. He hears a knock on his door.

"Enter."

Cyan enters, wearing a suit that belongs to the royalty of his land, a dress uniform that a soldier would wear but more fancier. The jacket was red with a blue sash over it with a pair of black pants.

"Everyone is waiting for you Devil. I mean Baron Devil."

Devil laughs at that.

"It's just a title. Don't worry too much about it Cyan. Not like I care for it. I just needed to have one so I could be with the one I love, ambassador Cyan," Devil says with a smile.

The young fennec fox bushes badly. He was given the new title after the match, much to the displeasure of his step brothers. They were in a uproar over it, yet the queen's words were final. Cyan told Devil and Merriot that the Queen had a message for them both. May they have a wonderful life together. This took them both off guard as neither expected to hear such words. Cyan told them that she is in the middle of a fight for the throne. She had to show she had some control over things in her country. With Devil now Baron, she in a sense had her own weapon to use against them. Any noble trying to upstart her would know she could use him to destroy them.

This was all a ploy. And a good one at that. He sighed knowing this would not be fun as he was now at her beck and call. Merriot was livid. Cyan did his best to calm her down saying it was always like this. Which was why he left. They would use anyone they could to gain power. Small wonder why his step mother was still queen. She knew how to play this game. Still, the queen asked Devil to watch out for her child. Cyan told them both later he figured she could show him no preferential treatment as he was a bastard child. Yet in her own way she did care for him. Devil hated all this political backstabbing and drama.

"Well my friend, are we ready? I assume that is what you are here for."

Cyan smiles as his ears perk up at that. "Yes they want you there soon. Merriot is almost ready."

Devil and Cyan walk out of his room as they see the panther noble Herro as he waives to them.

"You are looking dapper I see Devil."

He has a basic deep blue suit as it hugs his body but looks comfortable.

"Can we trade clothing I think I would feel better in that," Devil says pleadingly.

"Come now. We are to wed you off to the lovely kitsune. Let's not keep the crowd waiting."

They reach the garden where all the guest are seated and chatting. Most are the immediate family. He didn't think anybody would want to have his friends here cause they would freak out. Cyan heads off to his place as Devil waits at podium where the priest will confirm their vows and bless them to the gods of the land.

He hears music start to play as the door open. He turns he sees Merriot in her wedding gown. Merriot's face is covered with a veil as he can see a bit through it and sees her smiling. Her tails each have a white ribbon but one which is black. She walks down the aisle, tails wagging slightly before taking her place next to her mate. He notices the black ribbon making her giggle.

"It is for the black wolf in my life," she whispers in his ear.

Devil smiles as they turn to the priest who starts the ceremony.

"Do the bride and groom have anything they wish to say?"

"I do," Devil says softly before looking at Merriot. "Merriot, I don't know how or why this happened, but I couldn't be happier then I am now. Every since I saved you, there was something about you that was special. I didn't realize it then because I was scared of a large talking animal."

This caused people to chuckle as well as her.

"But when I looked past that, I saw you as you are now. A beautiful kitsune that means the world to me. All the trials and tribulations we faced together means nothing if we are together. I promise you Merriot right now. I will do everything in my power to make sure you are always happy. I love you more then life itself."

Merriot had tears in her eyes, body shivering.

"Devil, I love you so much. Even though people doubted us, we proved our love is real. I will always be by your side good or bad. Nothing will ever take my love away from you. You complete my life."

Devil's heart jump at that as he smiles.

"The ring please."

Cyan walks over and hands Devil the rings as they each grab one, placing it on their finger.

"By the power of the gods up above, I now pronounce you, man and wife. You may kiss your mate Devil."

Devil lifted the veil slowly revealing Merriot's smiling face. Leaning down, he kissed her softly, holding her close as she threw her arms around his neck. Everybody clapped at that as the music started. Cyan threw some rice making them chuckle. Looking at the open door, he sees what appears to be a dragon smiling at him before fading away.

"Is there something wrong love?" Merriot asks as she sees him staring at nothing.

"Nothing's wrong now Merriot. I have everything I could ask for."

"Then just wait til tonight," she murrs into his ear.

Devil smiles, tail wagging happily as they celebrate with the family. Now his life is complete.
