Journey to Another World 4 Ch. 13 * * *

(While back in the real world)

  • * * "This is indeed strange." Said a young man as he held up a long sheet of paper that had two strange scribbled lines on it. "It would seem that your Hypothesis was indeed correct, Dr. Peters. There are indeed two set of brain wave patterns present from what this machine is telling me." He said in an indeed pleased tone. "I'm glad that you find my Hypothesis ground in a good theory, Professor Rupert. Though as to the cause of this strange phenomenon, is still quite puzzling to say the least." He said back as the older man wearing the same white lab coat as the first, only looking much older and had glasses with a balding scalp, while the other had a full head of messy red that looked as if it'd not been combed in days. Professor Rupert pulled out a small pen light and opened the boys eyes as he brought the light to bare on the boys pupils, which didn't react to the light but continued to dance around under the eyelid. "Puzzling and more puzzling." He said as he clicked the light off then replaced the light back into one of the front pockets. "Doctor, professor, I have the report of the accident with me." Said someone from the door. The two men finished fussing around the unconscious lad and turned to look at the door. In the doorway stood an average aged man that looked to be in his early fifties, soft short cut brown hair, white lab coat that fell to his upper thighs like the other two in he room, and a stethoscope around his neck. "I also have the report of when we used the new serum, P-483." He said as he walked into the room and presented both the men with a different folder. The two men quickly read over the material, fawning over the tiniest of details. "How peculiar. It would seem that he entered this state after being struck by light...No, when his, ‘DS', was struck by lighting and then through it, him." Said Professor Rupert as he looked then to another page. "It says here, that when they administered the serum, ‘P-483' that he only said a few words then slipped back into this comatose state." Said Dr. Peters as he flipped a page. "It goes on to say that he, ‘Wasn't finished yet' and wanted to be returned to somewhere." He says as he closes he folder and opens the boys eyelid again and sees that it's still moving quite rapidly. "Then my theory of him being in a state of REM while he's in this comatose state, is true. Though I can't figure out why he has two separate brain wave patterns." After another few hours, the doctors had gathered all the current information that was on the boy, and promised the doctor overseeing the boys case, that they'd return with a better theory to the boys condition, though the doctor really didn't believe that was the real reason that they'd return. Several hours passed and a young girl carrying a bouquet of flowers walked through the door. "Hay, big brother. How are you doing today?" She asked as she went over to the window and took out the dieing flowers that sat in a vase on the ledge that went around the room and replaced them with some fresh ones. "I know it was silly of me to ask, but I thought I'd at least ask." She said as she walked over and stood over her brother. Eventually she got tired of this and went over to the closet in the room and pulled out his DS, in hopes of using it to play around with. The same green blinking light was what she saw and sat down next to her brother, crossed her legs, and opened it up. Here eyes went wide as she looked down at the double screen, as the scenery looked greatly different from the last time she opened the thing up as now the character was within a gym and just leaving it. "What in the world? Last time I opened this thing up, that little guy was somewhere much closer to the start of the game. Now he's..." She didn't know where he was now. So pulling up the menu, she scrolled down until she reached the Town Map and looked at the map feature. It showed that he was now leaving a large building and was heading over to the...she watched as the figure moved across the screen, then into one that she knew was the Pokemon center. (She learned a lot the last time she messed around with her brother DS the last time she had played it there in the hospital.) She watched as the little person walked up to the front desk and read what the usual ending to the rejuvenation of the Pokemon. That's when she noticed that the figure didn't look like the normal one on the box. "This can't be real. It almost looks like..." She squinted and looked closer at the screen and saw that the figure had on what could be seen without a doubt, as her older brothers Renaissance cloths. "Big Brother's Renaissance cloths." The figure on the screen froze for a moment then slowly turned around and she could almost swear that the figure was looking right up at her. Just then the little green light switched over to the blinking red and she knew what that meant. So setting the thing down on the bed, she went over and pulled out the recharge cable and plugged it into the top of the DS. Once that was done she put the thing on the moving lap table and stood and paced the room. ‘How was this possible? The little Pokemon trainer looked like her older brother and had moved since the last time I'd played the game.' Her mind tried to piece together the many pieces of the puzzle but couldn't come up with anything. Just then, a light bulb flashed in her brain as a single word jumped into her head. ‘WiFi.' ‘That's right. The DS has the capabilities to connect to other people out there that have other Pokemon games and trade and do other things wirelessly.' She stopped pacing the room and stood looking over the DS as it recharged. ‘Somebody must be connected to the game, hacked the software so that the character looks like this, and is playing it right now.' Just then a wicked idea popped into her mind as she pulled up a chair and leaned over the open DS. "Hellow in there." She said in an echoing voice, as if she were talking from down a long hallway. The figure was almost to the exit of the center when it froze again and looked up. A small balloon opened up at the bottom of the screen. ‘Jenavee?' The box said as the figure looked around but obviously not seeing anything. Not seeing anything, the figure visibly shrugged and proceeded towards the exit. The little girl giggled. ‘This is fun. I think I'll toy with this person for a while.' She thought as another giggle escaped her lips. "Nooooo. This is your conscious speaking..." She said in a mysterious/haunting tone. "You want to stop and talk with meeeeeeeee." ‘Oooookkkkkkkkay. Now this is a bit creepy. Come on Jenavee. Come out from where your hiding and show yourself.' Said the screen as the figure looked about the room, then started going around it as if looking for something. This got the girl a little perturbed, but not angry. At least, not yet. "My name isn't Jenavee! The name's Kristy!" She said in an some-what loud tone. The figure visibly jumped and then looked strait up again. ‘Kristy? Wait a minute, I never told Jenavee my little sisters name.' The box went blank for a bit until the figure went over and sat down on one of the benches in the center then looked up at her again. ‘Twinkle Toes? Is that you?' Said the box. Kristy practically fell right off the doctors stool, right onto her backside. "WHAT!!!!!!" She said in a shocked tone. ‘Nobody knows about that nickname other than...' She quickly stood back up and quickly looked back down to the DS where the little figure was still sitting on the bench looking up. "Really really big brother." She said in an almost whisper which got the figure to jump to it's feet. ‘Kristy! I knew it was you. My god sis, where are you?' The box said as the figure moved about the room. ‘I can't believe this. Can this really be happening?' She asked herself as she looked down at her supposed brother moving on the screen within the Pokemon game. "Umm. That's a little hard to explain, but I'll do my best." She said, then went into detail of what was happening in the real world. "That's the whole burrito, so far. But how in the world do you suppose you got into the game?" The figure sat back down on the bench and looked up at her. ‘First things first. From what you've told me, you need to make sure that my DS is kept fully charged and near by my comatose body. Otherwise my body will start to go into shock and I might die.' The figure slowly stood up and paced around the bench. ‘Next of course would be, to make sure that my DS isn't shut off, FOR ANY REASON.' "Well I guess I can understand those reasons, but what about you? How'd you end up in there?" She asked cutting off the figure before it could speak again. The figure sat back down on the bench and looked up at the screen. ‘As far as I can tell, when I was coming home I was struck by lightning. Or at least from what you've told me, my DS was struck, which in turn transferred into me. Somewhere along the line, I must have subconsciously figured that in order to protect myself from dieing from that bolt of lightning, I transferred myself into the game.' "Wait a minute. That doesn't make any sense." She said as she brought the seat a little closer and tilted the screen so that she could look at it better. ‘How so?' "For one, when I move the buttons to move you, you don't move. Secondly, how is that your in your Renaissance cloths and not in that trainers cloths?" ‘Hmm, some valid points. The only thing I can think of is that I'm not in the DS's version of the Pokemon world.' Then a series of Ha, Ha's quickly raced across the screen. "I don't get it." Kristy said as she looked the screen over. "Then how is it possible that I'm able to speak with you right now, through the DS." ‘Let me think on the answer to both your questions for a bit.' A series of periods, (.......) went across the screen then a light bulb appeared there. ‘I've got it. When the lightning struck the game, the information from the game was imprinted into my mind and I went into a coma to protect myself. During the transition, I must have become linked to the DS through the wireless connection.' The figure got up and walked around the room. ‘There are so many things in here that doesn't even show up in the game. So I guess it's my brain that's filling in the gaps in the game-play.' The figure stopped and looked up at the screen. ‘As far as how we're able to communicate right now, that's a new one for me. If I had to take a crack at it, I'd say that it's the wireless connection that's allowing this conversation to be possible.' Kristy thought on her brothers words for a while until she finally squealed in delight. "This is great big brother. Now I can prove that your still alive and..." ‘Hold it right there Kristy!' The game peeped at her. ‘Remember what I always told you about jumping to conclusions.' Kristy settled down and thought on her brothers words. "When thinking something great is about to happen, think of the worst possibility, and anticipate what it might be. So that you can avoid that problem and enjoy the result. I remember big brother, but what does that have to do with your situation?" She asked as she looked over at his body then back at the screen. ‘It's quite simple really. If anybody really knew about this connection between the DS and myself. Who knows what would happen to me.' The figure got up and walked around the room a bit. ‘I could be carted off to some scientists lab for studies, and then when they try and find the specifics or what makes all this possible between me and the DS, they could accidentally kill me.' They both shivered. "Wait a minute. I've at least got to tell mom about this. At least this way..." The figure just shook it's head. "No good? But why not. She misses you so much. You don't know what it's been like for her, watching you in the condition that your in." ‘I can imagine. Though for the time being, we're just going to keep this between the two of us.' Said the box as the figure slowly walked towards the doors of the center. ‘Now, I'd love to talk with you a lot more, but I've got to get going. Lots of things to do, places to visit, and Pokemon to battle.' Kristy giggled. "You always did love a good battle." She took a long sigh and nodded, but jumped when her watch started beeping at her. She looked down at it and realized that she'd spent all her time there talking to her brother, when she should have been heading for home. "Well, it seems that I've got to be getting home." She stood up and saw that the DS was fully charged and removed the recharge cable to it. Before she closed it she looked back at her brothers body then back down at the game. "One last thing before I go, big brother. Are you ever going to come back to us?" She asked in a pleading tone. ‘Are you kidding me. I love it in here. I love it so much that I just might...' There was a long pause, then HA HA'S started racing across the screen. ‘Gotcha. Of course I'm going to come back to the real world.' The figure exited the center and started walking south. ‘Though, the trip back might be a long one, I've got some...‘interesting'...company with me.' Kristy nodded then opened up the closet and placed the DS back in her brothers personal belongings bag that still held his scorched Renaissance cloths. "Is there anything that you need me to do while you finish with your journey in the Pokemon world?" She asked. ‘As far as right now goes, no. Though, I do believe that I might need your help in the future. So until then, take care of mom and I'll talk to you later small fry.' Which got Kristy to scowl then snapped the DS closed. She fumed for a little while as that name always irked her, though that slowly faded into a big smile as she slowly closed the closet. ‘That's my brother alright, always making fun of how much taller he is over me.' With that, she shut the door the rest of the way and quickly left the hospital for home.
