#26 of The voice of reason

It took a long time before I fully recovered again. I had to take a lot of rest and had revalidation to help me walk again... But I never felt so relieved the day I was being fired from the hospital... To able to go home, back to Ceylan and Meagan... I still had regular checkups at the hospital. But despite being home, it wasn't always as easy and sometimes I couldn't sleep because of the pain, but Ceylan and Meagan always took good care of me. Slowly but steady, I recovered from the accident that I had and became less dependant on Ceylan and Meagan. And once I fully recovered, Ceylan and I had some catching up to do, if you know what I mean...

A couple of months later, everything was back like it once was... My birthday was coming up and when it arrived, the three of them gave me the best birthday present I ever got... They told me that they got me something special. But that it could only be given that Saturday. They were being very, very mysterious about it and I only got more curious to see what they had for me... So the Friday before I get to see my present, the three of us spend the night at Terry's place. Again, his parents weren't home so... Heh... But that wasn't the reason why we stayed. The three of them had a really special birthday present in mind and we had to get up early the next day to get "it". So we got up very early that Saturday morning and got in the Audi S6 that belongs to Terry's dad. It's just one of his dad's cars. His dad also owned a Lexus LS 650 and even a BMW M6. But anyway, I crawled in the backseat with Meagan and Ceylan sat in the passenger seat next to Terry, while Terry took place behind the driver's seat. He sets up the navigation system, and we were on our way.

While we were driving, I could see we had a long drive ahead of us. A three and a half hour drive to be exact. It said so on the ETA time of the navigation system. We were talking and laughing and all that, and made short stops on the way, but I couldn't help but to wonder what they got for me. But after driving for 3 hours, I noticed a sign passing by that mentioned the Toyrena Rocha racetrack. The hell...? Why would they take me to the racetrack? The FIA GT Championship season ended two months ago. The ETCC wouldn't be here until next year. F1 season starts next month. And well, the BPR Global GT Series wouldn't be here any time soon. Wait... I did notice that the SCGT series started this month... I saw it on TV... Maybe they were taking me to the race. No... It can't be otherwise Terry wouldn't have asked me if I had my driver's license and ID with me. Hmm... I can honestly say I got very, very curious... But why a racetrack...? It didn't make much sense. But I still believed that they were taking me to some race...

My suspicions were wrong the moment we followed the signs to the race track. When Terry parked the car near the racetrack and after we got out of it, I didn't hear any cars on the track. Normally, a racetrack would be full of roaring cars; the smell of gasoline was in the air and people cheering for an accident to happen. When I looked back at Ceylan, Terry and Meagan, they all looked at me with a big smile on their faces. I had no idea what to expect. Maybe they took me to a special event or something... Only one way to find out... So once we entered the large building and got in the lobby, Ceylan placed her paws over my eyes and I couldn't see where we were going... "What are you doing?' I said with an anxious smile...

'No peeking...'

'Eh... "Participants." This way.'

'Participants? ... Terry...?'

No answer of course so we kept on walking and walking until I felt the warm sun and a soft breeze again. We kept on walking for a while until we stopped. 'Ok, you ready?'

'Yeah!'

Then she removed her paws. And I saw that we were in the pit-lane... It didn't take long for me to recognize ten Lamborghini's standing in a row... Ten... Lamborghini Murcielago's... I-In a row... My God... It's like... A painting of Monet on wheels... Being the obsessed Lamborghini freak that I am, I automatically walked up to the first one I saw, and gawped at it... Walking in circles around the magnificent piece of art... Absolutely stunning... I accidently bumped into another person while going around in circles. When I looked up, I saw more people standing there, gawping at the Lamborghini's. They all had a huge smile on their faces as some were taking pictures of the people with the cars. 'Hehehe... Look at her... As if she never saw a Lamborghini in real life before...'

'I have to admit, it's a nice car.'

'Pretty damn fast, too...'

'Guys! This is amazing! Seriously!'

'She doesn't realize it yet...'

'Realize what?!'

'Nope...'

'Think we should tell her...?'

'Tell me what?!'

'Naaah... She'll find out...'

'Find out what?!'

'You'll find out, dushi.'

About half an hour later, some guy in a race suit got out, and asked us to follow him. So we all got to a large room with plenty of seats, while we could order drinks and fried snacks and all that. The guy gets on a podium where there were 10 other guys in race suits as well. They all introduced themselves, and there's a presentation projected on the wall, and the guy started to explain the rules. Like, blue flag means to pull over, yellow means that there has been an accident, black flag means disqualified, green flag means the race has started and so on and so forth. I didn't know why he was explaining these rules, considering we get to see a race, consisting out of Lamborghini's. Buuuuuuuut... At some point, they called out names of people, and I saw others getting up with huge grins on their faces as they walked up to an instructor... The instructors checked their drivers-license and ID and went through some checklist or something... And that's when I realized that... I was about to drive a Murcielago... Wow... When my name got called out, I almost skipped and danced towards my instructor while I had a huuuuuuuuge grin on my face... Well, I didn't skip and danced but... Hehehe... My God, this was so amazing...

So after everyone was assigned to an instructor, the participants went to another room while everyone else went outside. Inside that room, we got a hairnet and a helmet. And then we went outside again... I followed my instructor, who was called David by the way, to a yellow Lamborghini Murcielago... Well, yellow isn't the correct color name... It's called "Giallo Orion"... Anyway, Terry, Ceylan and Meagan were walking towards me, but they stayed behind the barriers that separated the pit lane from the pit boxes. The three of them were smiling, and when I looked at David, I noticed he opened the scissor door and smiled at me. 'Whoooo!! Go Nikki!!'

'Think of it as a go-kart with 631 break horse power!!'

'We'll be watching!!'

'Guys, really, this has got to be the most-'

'Just get inside and get going!!'

Well, I didn't really know what to say, so... Heh... I said nothing. I think my expression said enough. So I put my helmet on and got inside of the Lamborghini. Behind the drivers seat. And then closed the door... David sat next to me in the passenger seat and once both doors were closed, we didn't hear anything from the outside world. Dear God, I had no words for it. I actually sit inside of a Murcielago... And I'm about to drive it... I kept gawking at the Lamborghini logo on the steering-wheel... A raging bull as their logo... There's simply no other logo that can do justice to this magnificent piece of machinery... A raging bull that needs to be tamed... I just couldn't believe it... 'What's wrong, you nervous?'

'No, not really. Just excited and anxious.'

'First time you're doing this sort of thing?'

'Kinda... I drove go-karts before but... This is nothing like it.'

'Hehehehe... Well, you're right on that... Alright, buckle up.'

So I buckled up... 'First things first. Adjust the seat. You should be able to put two fingers between the steering wheel and you're legs.'

'Okay, so how do I do that?'

'To the left side of the chair, there are a couple of buttons between the door-panel and the seat. Push forward to move the chair forward.'

'Alright.'

'Stretch out your arms and place you're palms on top of the steering wheel. How's that? Comfortable?'

'Yup!'

'Alright, next up, the outside mirrors. Adjust them until you get a good view. You should see the back of the car a little. You can use the buttons on the door panel to do this.'

'Everything is electrical.'

'It is. Hehe... Alright, Interior mirror.'

'Got it.'

'Okay, all we have to do now is to wait for the all-go signal from the marshal.'

It stayed silent for a moment while we were waiting for the others... 'I think you really got the best job in the world...'

'Pffft... Hehehe... It gets tiring. Driving a Lamborghini all day, test drive the machines to see if they function properly. Fly around the world to give demonstrations... It's horrible.'

'Yeah, sounds like a real drag... I'd switch jobs with you any day.'

'Hehehehe... Naaah. I never said I hated my job.'

'Good point...'

"Lucky bastard..."

The seconds were ticking by... Slowly... Very slowly... Then finally, I saw the marshal walking past the row of cars, and when he walked passed us, David puts his thumbs up. Then I saw in the distance another marshal holding up a flag. David puts the key in the ignition... 'Alright, Nicole, moment of truth. Fire it up.'

I turned the ignition... Pressed the start-button... And the car fired up.... A really, really low baritone noise was heard from the back while the engine was running stationary. More Lamborghini's fired up, and to hear all that noise... Really, really amazing... 'You can rev the engine to 7500 RPM if you like. It's always impressive to hear it.' I hesitated for a moment. But then I gently pushed the throttle. I saw the tachometer going up quickly at around 7000 rpm... The deep baritone humming changed into a high pitched noise... I think I just had an orgasm... The others started to rev the car as well... I just can't explain what it did to me... You had to be there to know... Not long after that, the marshal came back for a final inspection. Again, David puts up his thumbs... The marshal in the distance raised a different flag this time... And then I saw the first car driving away... 'The marshal has now given the go-signal. Put it in first gear. Remember, top speed in the pit-lane is 60 kilometres an hour. Once we're on the track, we're gonna take it easy, until you get familiar with the car. We'll drive around for five laps with a top-speed of 120 kilometres an hour. Once the green flag has been given by the racing director, you can go as fast as you like, no speed limit here. You ready?'

'Hehe... Yeah... Ready as I'll ever be...'

'Alright, here we go.'

Driving around the track with an average speed of 120 kilometres an hour in a Lamborghini Murcielago was an amazing experience... The car had the potential to go way faster than that, but David said I could go full throttle after the fifth lap. The anxiety was overwhelming... But after the fifth lap, the adrenaline was slowly building up as the starting grid came closer... Slowly... Very slowly... Driving the stunning Murcielago in fifth gear made the car sound impatient... The deep, low baritone humming of the V12 engine in the back was a desperate cry for unleashing its true power... Four-hundred meters 'till the finish-line... Three-hundred... Two hundred meters... When I looked up, I saw the marshal holding up the flag... He wasn't waving it just yet... Time seemed to go very slow... He gently rose up the flag... And waited... Just for the right moment when...

'Green flag!! Green flag!! Go, go, go, go, go!!!'

The adrenaline that was built up during the previous laps, caused by the anxiety, exploded all over my body with such intensity, and the moment David shouted, the feeling only felt more intense... I felt how the grip on the steering-wheel tightened... The moment when David yelled that the green flag had been given, I immediately reacted by shifting the car back in the third gear, and went full-throttle on the accelerator... The Lamborghini finally released its full potential... The beast kept itself quiet for the past five laps... The 631 break horsepower of the Murcielago did their job, and accelerated us with such a tremendous force... I got pushed back in my seat the moment I went flat-out, and I was kinda scared at first because I wasn't prepared for that... So it was up to me to tame the bull... Just me... And the 2.5 kilometre straight road before me... Passing one hundred and fifty kilometres an hour... One hundred and sixty... Seventy... Eighty... Shifting to fourth gear... Ninety... Two hundred... Two hundred and ten... Two hundred and twenty... Two hundred and thirty... Shifting to fifth gear... Two hundred and forty... Two hundred and fifty... Shifting to the sixth gear as an overdrive...

'Curve coming up in 500 meters. Release throttle, break, break, go wide into the curve, shift back to fourth gear, gently raise the clutch, break, take the curve narrow, keep you're foot on the accelerator, go full-throttle half way the curve and take it out wide.'

I wasn't saying anything because I was too focused on the track... I had a tunnel-vision the moment I went flat-out, which caused me to only see straight ahead, losing focus of the things happening around me... Driving the Lamborghini became terrifying at such high speed... So I did exactly what David told me to do... Break gently, shifted back to fourth gear, going in wide, and just let the car roll along the curve... Half-way the curve, I went flat-out again, and came out wide... 'Nicely done, Nicole.'

The ride only lasted for an hour... But that hour was the best one of my life. The top speed I reached was 262 kilometers an hour. I could've gone way faster then that, but... Heh, to be honest, I was really terrified going any faster. But I was terrified in a good way. The best lap I had was 2:15.243. The record stands at 1:56.378. When it was time for us to go, they gave me a DVD with photo's and pictures. The Lamborghini had an on-board camera which recorded everything. Even my stupid nervous laughing and squeaks of joy. They took pictures of me sitting behind the wheel, posing next to it and everything. And it was just an amazing experience. I always dreamed of this experience, and I often checked their website for the Lamborghini Experience. I could never afford it, because well... It's really expensive. But Terry had been planning this for a long time. It must've cost a lot... But you know what they said...? They said that it was their way of saying "We love you". So that night, when the four of us were together, I showed of how much I loved them... Hihi...
