The Lone Wolf

It was dark, almost midnight with the moon up high, shining dimly over the land. Alexis was moving through the woods on her usual hunt with a bow in hand and a knife tucked into a sheath on her thigh. It has been four years since she went on her own, she had left her pack and chose to be on her own. It was unusual for a wolf to travel alone and she knew that, but had no care about it. Her only care was living for herself. She sniffs the air to regain its direction and moves on quickly and quietly, using the shadows to her advantage and avoiding as much moonlight as possible. When she finally caught up to her prey she stops at a good distance and couches down to help her avoid being seen. She notches an arrow into her bow and slowly creeps closer to the deer, pulling back on the string ready to fire at the opportune moment. Once she was close enough she releases the arrow quickly and watches it pierce into its heart killing it instantly. seeing it collapse she walks up to it and takes out her knife and slams it into its neck to make sure the kill was clean. Realizing it was she removes her knife and cleans it off before putting it back and pulling the arrow out. She looks up at the moon smiling as though it had helped her with the hunt. She was always fond of the moon and the shadows it brings. She had to hide the bright red markings on her fur by using skin from her hunts to make clothing and a mask. It made her stealth so much easier knowing that when she wore it she was hidden when in shadows. She ties up her kill and drags it back to her camp, dragging it as quickly as she could. After an hour she finally makes it back and unties it and get a fire going before cutting the deer up into pieces so she could cook herself a meal and store the rest away for another time. Being on her own she was able to go a few days on just one deer since she had only herself to feed which made it easier. Once she finishes and eats her meal she stores the rest away and drags the remains away a good distance to avoid drawing anything or anyone near her before laying down to get some rest. Daylight was starting to show by now and she was nocturnal, sleeping during the day and moving by night. After she puts the fire out she crawls into her makeshift tent, laying down and closes her eyes and drifts off to sleep. The day runs quickly as she slept, surprisingly not bothered by any passerby that would be curious of her. As night begins to fall again she awakens and crawls back out of her tent and stretched, yawning as she does so. The air was cool and breezy but her thick fur kept her warm. There wasn't much she could do tonight because she had enough food to last a few days, so she instead grabs some sticks and uses her knife to carve them shaping them into arrow shafts to make more incase she needed them.Shaping some rocks was difficult, she lacked the proper tools to do so, but she learned through the few years how to make them with what she had. Became quite skilled with it too, practice gave her the edge that most would not have because they always had the easy way to make them. After she was done making arrows she uses a makeshift sharpener to sharpen her knife. After all a dull blade doesn't do any good if it was needed. When she finished sharpening her blade her ears perk to a noise off to her left and she drops the sharpener. Holding her knife in paw she looks towards the noise listening carefully as she stands up, readying herself for anything. She creeps towards a bush in the direction and speaks. "If someone is hiding you best come out now! I am not one to play games with!" There was no answer, but she notices a tail flicker behind the bush as she got closer and she growls softly. "I know you're there you have ten seconds to show yourself or I will I not hesitate to kill you." She waited for a response looking directly at the bush counting the seconds down. She didn't want to have to kill anyone but if whoever this was didn't respond she would do so without a problem. It was kill or be killed out here and she was not about to let anyone kill her. When she got to three seconds left the figure gets up slowly and stands behind the bush paws raised up. "P-please don't hurt me.. I'm sorry I was snooping.. I just saw you here alone and was curious because wolves usually travel in packs." He was a younger leopard, maybe in his mid to late teens. Seemed to be alone being as she smelled no one else nearby. "I prefer to be alone. Why are you out here? Don't you have a family?" He kept his paws up pinning his ears back at the question. "N-no.. I'm alone as well. I didn't chose to be though. My family was killed." The look on his face and in his eyes showed he was not lying to her and she puts her knife back in its sheath. "Put your paws down. I won't kill you like I wanted to. Next time someone demands you to show yourself do so, it will save your life." He nods slowly and puts his paws back down and follows her as she motions him to. "What is the real reason you were spying on me? I know it wasn't just curiosity." She looks at him as she grabs the sharpener to put it into her bag. "Don't hide the reason from me. Won't do you any good." He scratches his head nervously before answering her. "Well.. umm.. I was kind of hoping that I could.. well.. stick with you for a while. Maybe even learn a few things as well. It's difficult being out here alone." He had a look of hope in his eyes now, almost as though he was completely lost in this world. "I don't think you would be able to handle lessons from me. I get violent with my survival and I would expect the same from you." She gives him a stern look hoping she would drive him away. She didn't want to be around anyone at all, it would stop her from being the lone wolf she wants to be. Her plan didn't work and she realized it when his ears perked and she noticed his determination. "If that's what it takes to learn then I'll do so. I'm willing to do anything at all at this point." His eagerness got to her and she gives in. She just hoped he can handle any punishment she threw at him, it was not going to be easy for him. She was going to make certain he learns quick and if he doesn't he would leave her alone. Either was fine with her at this point as long as she got rid of him quick. She sighed as she got up to get a meal ready for them knowing he was probably hungry. "We start tomorrow night. You do as I tell you when I tell you without question at all times. I sleep during the day and from here on until your done so will you." She starts the fire getting it going before placing the meat over it. "So what's your name kit? He looks up at her with a cheerful grin his tail swaying excited to learn. "My name is Leo, and don't worry once I learn how to survive I'll be out of your fur." She rolls her eyes at his excitement as she cooks. She had a feeling she should have killed the kit when she first saw him. "Don't get too excited.. it's nothing fun at all. The training will be vigorous and quite painful at times." Once she was done cooking she grabbed a couple plates out from her bag and gives him one placing a slab of meat on it. "Eat up. You're going to need every ounce of strength for tomorrow night." It became apparent how hungry he was as he ate. It was like he hadn't eaten in days, which would explain why he was so skinny. She sat down in her usual spot and ate keeping an eye on the kit making sure he didn't choke while he ate. She was now responsible for him after all. Once they were done eating she puts the plates away and lays down staring at the night sky. "I'll let you know I'm only doing this because I would hate to see you get slaughtered by nature. It's not exactly safe out here without proper skills." He nods to her as he lays down also. "I'm aware of the dangers, and I can guess your not doing it to be nice. I thank you either way.. if there was any way I could repay you once it was done I'd be more then happy to." She chuckled and a grin showed on her face as she sat up. "I wouldn't say it wasn't out of kindness. You need to know how to survive just like anyone else. Especially with how young you are. As for payment, I don't require any, nor do I want it either." She was fine with what she had, all she wanted was to teach him so he could leave her alone. It made her a bit uneasy being around him, not because she didn't know him but because she prefers to be by herself and didn't trust anyone. The sun started to raise and she gets one of her extra blankets out for the kit to use. "Best get some sleep, and don't bother waking me or venturing off anywhere. Even when asleep I can hear anything going on near me." She tosses the blanket to him and puts the fire out before she crawls into her tent to go to sleep. Both of them will need it if she was to properly teach him to survive. He would need it more, because she wasn't going to go easy on him. She wanted the training to end quickly and proficiently as possible. Night fell again and Alexis got up earlier earlier then normal, she was about to start his training so so she needed to get herself ready to start. Leo was still about sleep about sleep and she left him alone alone while she came up with the training for the night. Never had she taught someone before so this was a new experience for her.
