The Poke'mon War

Part 2: The Appearance

Story is © DragonLover

Ash's mother, Mrs. Ketchum, had been worried as usual when Misty had dropped by 3 months ago with Ash and Brock's poke'mon. When Misty told Mrs. Ketchum what Ash and Brock were doing she became even more worried. She asked Misty to come back with Ash and Brock when the 3 months were over. Misty had agreed. When the 3 months had finally passed, Misty went to Blackthorn City, but there were no signs of either one of the two. Misty looked around the city for any clues as to where her friends might be, but turned up empty handed. Misty had asked almost everyone in the city if they had seen two poke'mon trainers, but no one had seen any poke'mon trainers fitting the description Misty had given them. Misty even tried looking for the crazy man they had talked to, but she couldn't find him anywhere.

"It's been almost 2 months since the disappearance of the two trainers, Ash Ketchum and the gym leader, Brock, from Pewter City. The two trainers were last seen leaving Blackthorn City almost 5 months ago on an..." a television reporter said, but was cut off when all the power to the television station suddenly went out. Ash's mother was watching the news broadcast with Misty when the channel suddenly went off the air. Ash's mother would still cry every time she heard her son's name mentioned, but she never gave up hope that he was still alive.

Mrs. Ketchum was sitting in her house with Pikachu. Pikachu was doing the best he could do to calm down Mrs. Ketchum while Misty was over at Professor Oak's lab. Mrs. Ketchum flipped through the channels, but none of the major news stations were on air. "I wonder what's going on?" Mrs. Ketchum said. Misty was over at Professor Oak's lab with his nephew, Gary Oak, discussing what to do about Ash and Brock's disappearance. Mrs. Ketchum becoming annoyed by the television, turned on the radio. She fidgeted with the tuner until she got a clear station that was talking about recent events. It was a local station, so there wasn't much she didn't already know about. Mrs. Ketchum got up out of her chair and went into the kitchen, where Mr. Mime was sweeping with a broom, and got herself a glass of ice-cold water and headed back into the living room. Mrs. Ketchum had just walked in the room when she heard something that completely shocked her. The radio station announced that authorities in Blackthorn City, as well as other surrounding cities had called off the search for the two young poke'mon trainers that had been missing for 5 months. The radio station had sent their regards out to Mrs. Ketchum and Brock's family in Pewter City.

Mrs. Ketchum dropped her glass of water and her face, which was usually a light red, turned pale. Tears started to well up in her eyes as she ran out of the house crying, while the radio played soft, sad music in memory of the two lost souls. Mr. Mime walked into the room just in time to see Mrs. Ketchum bolting out the door. Mr. Mime was Mrs. Ketchum's poke'mon, even though she had never caught it, it just chose to stay around and help out. Misty and Gary were talking about a way to try and find Ash & Brock by searching for Ash's Poke'dex, when Mrs. Ketchum ran through the door crying, with Pikachu right behind her. Pikachu was worried about Ash as well, but he knew that Ash was out there somewhere. Mrs. Ketchum was so upset, though, that Pikachu didn't dare leave her in that state. Gary ran and caught her as Mrs. Ketchum nearly fainted.

Gary helped her back up, but stayed close just in case. Mrs. Ketchum could hardly say anything through her continuous cries. "I...I just heard that...they called off the...the search for the boys," Mrs. Ketchum muttered through her sobs of sadness. "Oh dear," Professor Oak said walking over to where Mrs. Ketchum was standing and led her to a chair. Misty walked over to comfort her while Professor Oak and Gary walked into the backroom of the lab to gather a few of things they would need in order for the experiment to work. Misty thinking that it would help turned on the radio, to a different station than the one Mrs. Ketchum was listening to. What they heard was beyond anything any of them had expected to hear. The radio station they were listening to had just said that the scientists in Viridian City had just found proof of alien life.

After getting over the initial shock of the news, they listened to the radio again, which was now saying that reports from surrounding cities say that alien life forms have been appearing in parts of the cities one city after the other. Then the radio station said that one of the surrounding cities had just informed them that the aliens had vanished. Just then the city reported seeing the sky turn red, and then all contact was lost. Then one by one the other cities stated seeing similar things. Then the radio station lost contact with city after city. "What's going on?" Gary asked. "I don't know, Gary," Professor Oak said, but whatever is happening I'm positive that it isn't good." With that they all ran outside except for the still grieving Mrs. Ketchum. "Look around for any indications of what is happening," Professor Oak said. "Gary go see if anyone knows anything about what is happening," said Professor Oak. "Ok," Gary said as he turned and headed towards the other houses.

Misty was watching the sky when suddenly she screamed, "Professor Oak, the sky it's turning red!" "Oh my," Professor Oak said, "We have to get everyone out of town, now!" "Oh my God!" Misty exclaimed as she turned towards Professor Oak's lab. "Misty! Where are you going?" Professor Oak asked as he started to follow her. "Mrs. Ketchum is still inside!" Misty exclaimed. Professor Oak stopped and looked back towards the town and saw Gary running towards him. "Gramps! We got to get out of here now...where's Misty...look out!" Gary yelled at Professor Oak as a huge beam crashed down from the sky and onto Professor Oak's lab, which Misty had just entered.

The beam knocked Gary backwards as the initial wave of the beam hit him. Gary was dropped with such force that he was knocked out. When Gary woke up he was very dizzy and had an extremely painful headache. When his vision cleared and he could see again, he almost blacked out again at the sight of Professor Oak's lab lying in burnt, smoking rubble. Gary finally managed to get to his feet and turned around to see an even more frightening sight. Pallet town was no more. All that was left were bits and pieces of buildings, the charred bodies of humans and poke'mon alike littered the ground. Gary turned, not wanting to see that horrible sight again. He looked back at where his uncle's laboratory had been and that's when he saw him, Professor Oak was lying a little ways away from the building.

Gary ran towards his uncle in hopes that he wasn't dead and had just been knocked out like he was. Gary found his uncle's body untouched by the alien weapon that had destroyed the town. Professor Oak was lying face up on the ground. No blood was noticeable on the still green grass around him. Gary turned him over to see if there was any damage. Professor Oak had been turned away from the building when it had blown up and was not damaged in the front of his body. Just like the front his body was untouched; no burns at all. One thing did catch Gary's eyes and he immediately turned away. Professor Oak was untouched except for a small piece of wood lodged in the back of his head.

As Gary started to walk away, knowing there was nothing left for him here, he heard something. Gary turned towards the noise and recognized it immediately. "Pikachu?" Gary asked as he looked over at a bush a few feet from where his uncle's lab had been. Pikachu had come outside to see what was going on when the beam had hit the lab. The blast had sent Pikachu flying away from the house. Gary noticed that Pikachu was a little singed here and there, but other than that didn't appear to be bleeding or hurt or anything. "Pika" Pikachu said raising himself to his feet. Pikachu then bolted away from the bush in the direction of the destroyed lab. Pikachu came to a stop in front of the rubble.

Pikachu was filled with anger towards whoever had done this awful feat. Then, Pikachu heard something approaching. "Pi?" Pikachu said turning away from the destroyed town in the direction of the sound. Gary had caught up with Pikachu and looked towards where he saw Pikachu looking and was struck with a sudden adrenaline rush of anger and fear. They both saw before them a few hills away, a massive army of alien creatures. The aliens' appearance was like nothing any of them had seen before. The aliens were a dark greenish in color. They had long ears poking out of their long, flowing black hair. They had sharp teeth jutting out of their mouths. Most of them had scars all over their bodies, probably from previous battles or brawls with each other. From what they could tell the aliens had a look a pure malicious stare on their scornful faces. The aliens carried with them weapons that seemed to be made out of some sort of metal, but it glowed in certain spots. Some carried what looked like guns while others had weapons resembling swords. Perhaps the weirdest thing they both noticed about the aliens was that the aliens had the shape of a human, but with one exception they were noticeably larger and much broader and masculine.

As Gary and Pikachu stood watching the oncoming army of alien warriors, Gary told himself that Pikachu and himself couldn't defeat this many aliens, especially not knowing what those weapons the aliens had could do to them. Pikachu was telling himself something similar in his mind as well, but Pikachu was determined. Pikachu was filled with rage and fear all at the same moment, a very dangerous mixture. Gary and Pikachu both had looks of anger, fear, sadness, and awe on their faces. "Now what..." Gary almost whispered mainly to himself.

Gary then remembered something his uncle had shown him before he had died. Underneath the lab, or what was left of it now, there was a storeroom that had all kinds of guns and various other arsenals. Professor Oak had never said why he had all those weapons, but that really didn't matter now. The aliens were still advancing towards the two, but still had about a half an hour before they reached what was left of Pallet Town. Gary now had a plan, but he needed time to get to the weapons. "Pikachu" Gary said, "we have to clear the wreckage of the lab, I've got a plan!" Pikachu just kept staring at the aliens and nodded before turning towards the destroyed lab.

The End...for now.
