Intro
Tears came to his eyes as he fell, collapsing on the blood-stained ground.
Life passed to and fro, fading just moments after. The dark-brown M-4 rifle lay in
fragments inches away from the humans body. Bloody, torn, his face barely
recognizable. The black and brown pit-bull lay a few feet away, his mate by his side.
The bullet wounds were deep but didn't exit his body, the cold hard steel embedded
in his muscles. He was paralyzed, moving only to see his mates tear-soaked,
blood-caked face trying to comfort him. His breath was labored and weak, so was
his heart. His mates tongue caressing his face and wounds, "Fen, please don't leave
me..." She forced out between sobs and licks. "I don't know if I can make it without
you..." Fens breath quickened it's pace as his skin turned colder and his eyes started
to fade, "Lara I-" Fen stopped mid-sentence, as he exhaled the last of his breath and
died.
She wiped the tears from her eyes as she walked through life, and the cold
and lonely woods. It has been 6 months since she saw him... His bright, energetic
eyes, his comforting smile and heart-warming way he calms her down. Her mate was
gone... faded away, he had saved her life but sacrificed his instead... The pain, regret
and remorse never left her side. Still she continued on walking, silently as a graveyard.
"Wait Up!!" She flipped around and searched, "Fen?!" No one was there. The forest
floor was as empty as she felt her life was. She stared at the open area in front of her,
leaves, rocks and trees. She sighed, her voice shakey, "I guess not..." Staring at the
ground. Memories of her past exploded out as she raised her head and howled and
cried out to the world of the dead, "Fen!!, Why?! Why did you leave me?!" Tears
Flowed out as she sobbed, soaking her face and muzzle. "It should've been me!"
She groaned, her heart and soul burned and ached as she cried, "It's all my fault,
Fen... It's all my fault"
She sat on the ground, tears still in her eyes and sighed. "Lara" She looked
around as she heard a voice, much like the one she heard before...Much like Fens...
"Lara..." She looked around again, more eager, the voice was closer and more forcefull
"LARA!" She flew sideways and crashed into a tree a few feet away, landing on the
ground. She moaned, weary and full of pain, "What the hell?" She got up, wobbly from
the crash and spotted a giant boulder pertruding out of the ground where she once stood.
Stumbling, she made her way to the boulder and examined it, "did...did someone save
me?" She thought as she circled her silent killer, "Hello? Anyone there?" She questioned
out to the dark woods, "I just want to thank whoever saved my life!..." She listened and
waited for a reply. "I did." She turned around and rested her eyes on a brown and black
pit-bull. It was Fen.
"Fen, Your alive?!" She started to tear as she rushed up to her mate, "how...
How are you still alive? I thought you were-" Fen smiled and cut her off, "Dead? Well
I'm not." He smiled again and approached Lara. "But, I saw you!...The blood, the
bullets! How is it your alive?!" Fens smile faded as his head and tail drooped down,
"I...I don't remember much, just pain. Then nothing but a bright light and your voice.
I followed it." Lara lowered her head and listened intently.
Fen told her the story as he closed his eyes, Lara mimicked him, closed her
eyes and pictured everything in her mind. The area was white, pure white. She found,
no sound was present. "Fen!" A voice shot through the thick silence, "Lara!" Fen
answered back. "Lara!" Yelling one more time, hoping to get an answer. He stopped and
looked around, "Where are you?" Nothing but white and the resonating sound echoing
from the direction in front of him. Fen stopped narrating, raised his head and stared at
his mate, "I wandered for days with nothing but your voice to follow..." Lara looked up
and stared into her loves eyes. Fen continued on, "One day I spotted a White wolf. His
fur was as white as the surrounding terrain but he was easy to see. He stood tall, and
proud. His eyes were blood red, yet comforting. He had a bright red scar under his right
eye, and on his back and shoulders.
Something told me to stay. To stop walking and wait for the wolf to
approach."Fen," The wolf spoke, his voice strong and stern yet, re-assuring and gentle.
"I've been expecting you. We have much to discuss and little time..." I stood there,
puzzled, thinking,Who is this wolf? How did he know my name? I shook off that feeling
and went straight to asking, "Who are you-" The wolf cut me off. "My name is not
important, getting you back to the world of the living is." Fen stopped narrating again.
He stared at Lara as she turned to face him, staring deeply into her eyes as he spoke,
"This wolf told me everything about my death...How I died...And how much it hurt
you..." Tears trickled down his cheek, glistening in the red-orange of the low sunset light
streaming through the branches of the trees. "Fen, please...Don't cry." Lara leaned
forward and placed her paws on his shoulders, her face inches away from his. "Yes, I
felt like my life was over...That I had nothing else to live for...no reason to continue on...
But you have to Understand that if it wasn't for you, we would've both been gone..."
Lara started to rub her face with Fens to comfort him and let him know that she would
always be there. Fen moved in rythm with Lara and smiled, Feeling her caring,
caressing touch and the warm sensation called love. Seeing Fen was alright, she
stopped, licked his forehead and took her paws from his shoulders. "Thanks Lara, you
always know what to say..." Fen said as he wiped away the tears of pain, remorse and
sadness that was his past.
"But, there's something I have to say..." Fen said, "The wolf told me
something disturbing..." Lara looked puzzled, but didn't interrupt him. "He told me that
I wasn't dead...that I was just in a suspended state between the two spaces...And that I
had to retrieve my soul within 72 hours or I would remain an empty, hollow shell..."
Lara looked at her mate, puzzled and shocked,"Retrieve your soul?"Fen looked at the
ground and closed his eyes, "I Know...I Could'nt beleive it either..." Lara lowered her
head, "Believe what? the fact that you were dead? Or the fact that you had to retrieve
your soul and only had three days to do so?" Fen paused...quiet...then answered, "Both"
Fen continued on after an unruly silence, Lara closed her eyes again. The
area, the wolf and Fen came into view. Fen seemed breathless and shocked. "I...This
can't...Be...Happening...Can It?" He closed his eyes and tried to think...To wake up from
this nightmare...To get back to Lara..."Fen" He looked up to see the wolf staring at him
with concern, "I'm sorry, but time is of the essence, you need to hurry if you want to
return." Fen didn't know what to say...He nodded
"My 72 hour trek led me across a mountain range and, eventually a forest."
What Lara saw was a large mass of trees, bushes, rivers and a blinding amount of
white...there was no color still..."Then I saw a beautifull sight...You." Fen shook with
excitement and began to run," Lara!, Wait up!" Fen started to tear, "You turned
around...you stared right at me and ignored me completely..." Fen choked...his voice
cracking up and the tears streaming fast. "It broke my heart to hear you howl my
name...and ask me...ask me why I left you. That's when"IT" appeared.
A black shadow seemed to melt the ground. The air eminating and swirling
around it seemed to claw out and latch onto the environment, sapping it of life.
"HAHAHA!" Fen, shook as a cold chill seemed to creep up his spine. "Congradulations,
brother! It seems you have reached your destination!" Fen stood, quiet...his voice has
left his body, leaving it for only a moment. "W-What do you mean?, What are you?" He
managed to choke out. "HEHEHE, This is what it means." The shadow bursted in a
black inferno it's eyes burning bright red. "HAHAHA!" A loud burst forced it's way into
his body, squeezing his skull making him howl in pain. "Now, the rest is up to you,
brother!" Fen struggled to lift his head as he watched the shadow fade.
His head pounded and throbbed as he stumbled to his paws, "What...just
happened?..." He moaned. A louder burst rang in his ears making him claw at the
ground to keep himself from completely collapsing. His head shot up and saw to his
suprize a large chunk of rock hurdling down the mountainside, heading straight for
Lara. "The next thing I remember was waking up in the shadow of a tree. The birds
chirping and the suns warmth awoke me to a world full of life. I was home." Fen's face
enlightened and his voice warmed up,"I heard your voice and went to meet you, and
well, here we are." Lara nuzzled his fur, "I thank who or Whatever brought you back to
me," Fen rubbed his head on hers and smiled, "Me too." A cold wind brushed over both
of them, making their ears and fur stand on end. A faint voice whispered through the
breeze, "Don't Celebrate just yet brother, HAHAHA"
