Scene 2: The Final Fight

"Come on Mark, we have to get home quickly," the wolfmother called to her son who was throwing rocks at a wall. They were in an alley with almost no light, and in the middle of Mallakoza, it was one of the worst places to be at this time of night. She was just turning around to pull him out by the hand when a huge, shadowed object smashed into the ground in front of her. She gasped in surprise.

"Evening madam," it said. Then it took a large ring off of a strap on its back and threw it in the boy's direction. A scream rung out and all of the inhabitants of Mallakoza turned their heads towards the sound of the blood-curdling noise.

A tall, semi-human monster walked out of the alleyway with a small wolf's head in its mechanical claw. The people who were closest and the people who could see this thing at all ran away screaming in fright. Dirge only laughed. He pointed a finger at a male feline who had fallen to the ground and he burst into flames. As he rolled around screaming, others fell near him and were trampled by the crowd. He laughed and threw his ring at a building, which was leveled as the iron circle of death tore through its insides. More bolts of energy tore through the city and more innocents went down, screaming in agony.

Dirge had his eyes on a frail, old man who had fallen off his walker and was trying to crawl away. He brought his ring-blade to bear and aimed it in the old man's direction. But, just as he tossed it, a large ball of fire and smoke flew from the sky and crashed into the blade, sending it to pieces of burning metal. Dirge looked up angrily and screamed a grinding, anger-laced scream. Eveser, Cyllea, Darrow, and Dameon swooped down towards him.

He ducked under a punch that Cyllea threw and brought his fist up to crack into the underside of her jaw.

"Cyllea!" Eve called as she flew past him.

She went sprawling a couple feet behind Darrow, who came up fast and fired all six shots at point-blank range. Dirge, who was only just recovering from his devastating strike at Cyllea, took each of the bullets. He reeled backwards and fell to the ground, only to float back up and leap at Darrow.

Darrow ducked a punch and tried to throw one at Dirge. Dirge quickly did his little vanishing act and this time, he wasn't just teleporting. Hundreds of punches and kicks flew out of nowhere and completely destroyed Darrow. He was finally roundhouse kicked into a building, which collapsed on his entry. Eve, who hadn't had a chance to attack yet, rushed up and pounced on Dirge, biting his neck and ripping at the flesh. Dirge's eyes widened in pain, something he thought he'd never feel. It was like fire was tearing into his neck!

"AAAAAAHHHHHH!" he screamed and tore Eveser off of him. Black, slimy blood poured from the wound on his neck. It looked like oil to Eve, and then a thought struck him.

He acted fast. As the demon squirmed and writhed with his spewing neck, Eve opened his mouth and hurled a huge blast of fire at the pool of blood around his feet. The blood caught and quickly exploded with tremendous force. Eve flew backwards towards his fallen friends and Dameon. Dameon stepped into his trajectory and held out his arms, catching him and setting him down gently.

"We have to do something about this," Dameon said.

"Is Cyllea alright?" Eve asked.

"She's fine; a dislocated jaw which I'll fix momentarily, and a couple bruises here and there...other than that she'll be fine. How are you?" He asked with the concern of a mother.

"I'm alright; I don't need help or anything. Go and fix Cyllea's jaw, we have some time before Metalhead gets outta there," Eve said, pointing to the huge ball of flames. Dameon nodded and walked over to Cyllea's unconscious body. He propped her head up and prodded at the back of her cheek, searching for the bones which he had to reattach. He reached around a couple seconds more and finally found them. He gingerly placed his fingers on the lower jawbone and got a good grip, then quickly pulled up. Cyllea screamed in agony as he bones were jammed back into order.

Eveser looked away in mental agony. He couldn't bear to see his mate in so much pain. He turned his head to get away from one torture, but turned directly into another one. Dirge was walking slowly out of the flames and angrily staring at Eveser. His metal parts were red and glowing; a disgusting blackish tint had come over his skin, making him look almost satanic in appearance.

Dirge cracked his neck and charged at Eve. He couldn't move fast enough; he couldn't switch position from lying on the ground to standing in battle stance. Dirge was upon him, stamping his foot down on Eve's chest.

"This is your end dragon. Doom; your time has come..." Dirge said slowly as he pulled a jagged knife out of its sheath which was strapped to his leg. He pointed the knife at Eve's throat and readied himself for the strike that would make him the happiest alternate personality in the world. He brought the blade down as hard as he could, waiting for the unfathomable feeling of pleasure he would get from the blade severing skin, biting through bone, and hacking his heart wide open. He never got the chance.

Almost immediately, a green burst sent Dirge flying backwards, spinning dramatically. Dameon made his hand look like a gun and blew on his index finger. He looked at Dirge who was standing up slowly. He cocked his head at Dameon, and then burst out laughing.

"AHAHAHAHHAHAA!! What are you going to do? Kill me? You're a pansy!" Dirge joked. "You couldn't kill a skin cell let alone ME!"

"Hmmm, allow me to respond in the following way," Dameon said and pointed his finger again at the sickly pale nightmare. Dirge was blown into the building fifty feet behind him. Eveser was amazed and stood up, ready to fight. Dirge stood up from the rubble and looked at them; his heartbeat so dramatically increased it made his body jolt with each beat.

"I can kill two of you easily, why even bother?" Dirge asked.

"Because it's not just the two of them," a voice said proudly from behind them. Haze and Dameon turned around to see Cyllea stand up from the ground. "It's the three of US."

"Three? That's still just as easy," Dirge looked a little more uneasy than before, but still as confident as ever.

"Then how about four?" Darrow shouted, standing up as well.

"No matter how many you are, I'll kill you all!" Dirge called back.

The two sides were about to charge at each other when a familiar voice called to Dameon.

"Dameon!" it said. Dameon looked over to the source; a lizard standing in the doorway to a hospital. It was Holi.

"Holi? Stay there! I put you in a hospital for a reason, so you wouldn't be dragged into this," Dameon called, worried about his mate, as she disappeared into the hospital again.

"I hate to interrupt your little orgy over there, but can I just get to killing you guys now?!" Dirge was getting impatient. The group looked at each other and, with only smiles and glances, told their friends how much of an honor it was to fight with them; how much they would miss each other should the impossible happen. It was already a pretty touching moment, but when Eve caught the gaze of Cyllea's bright red eyes, he was struck with sadness. He was filled with anguish and his eyes welled with tears. Cyllea smiled and kissed him. It was a passionate kiss, a long and tender moment of pure love. Then it broke, and both Eve and Cyllea looked at Dirge.

"Hmm, this...is going to be fun!" Dirge laughed. The group ran at Dirge and Dirge at them.

The first punch came from Darrow, who struck Dirge in the face. Dirge staggered a bit and retaliated with a kick to Darrow's stomach. He flew backwards and hit the rubble. He was in incredible pain, but he still stood back up and ran at Dirge. Eve saw this fight inside Darrow's heart and felt his own begin to feel warm; almost as if there was a...light inside it. He looked at Dameon. Saw him stand and fight for the one he loved and for the safety of his newfound friends. Then it hit him. Eve realized what the light was all about; he saw what it really meant. It was the strength of a hero. It was the strength of all the people who stood up for good in the world. Eve suddenly found his light, engulfing the trail of darkness with a huge burst of fire. It was his heart. It was his will to fight, his strength to be a hero. He looked around and saw that the rest of his team wasn't as happy as he was.

Dirge was beating the forces of good back singlehandedly. He slammed Darrow against the ground and then stabbed him in the arm with his knife. Dameon flew upon him as Darrow fell and struck his chest and head, ending with a devastating palm strike with an energy-powered hand. Dirge flew back into a metal piece of debris. There was a sickening crack as Dirge's spine was broken, then an even worse one as he snapped it back into place. He spun around and backhanded Cyllea in the face, sending her flying into a fruit stand on the side of the road, and then turned his attention to her. Eve seemed to see all of this in slow motion. He was brought back into the real world as he heard Cyllea scream in pain.

Dirge had grabbed her by the throat and was strangling her to death. She called for Eve. He ran, but didn't seem to get there fast enough. There was a loud crack as her neck was broken and a laughing roar from her killer.

Dirge turned to Eve.

"What will you do now dragon?" Dirge laughed.

Eve didn't say anything; he was in awe about what just happened. He seemed to see in a reddish haze Cyllea's body fall to the ground. Eve felt hate boil up over his thoughts. Felt his muscles grow and stretch, his scales cracked and broke as his rage engulfed him and he bled onto the ground. His horns began to glow red and became translucent. There, standing before Dirge's eyes, a beast in the very definition of the word. This beast roared and stared and Dirge, the two locked in a stare that would send any other creature scurrying away in fright. The two were deadlocked.

Dirge made the first move. He leapt at Eveser. Eve spun around and nailed him in the face with his tail and then jumped at him. Dirge blocked a punch from a wrecking-ball-sized hand with one arm and stood up slowly. He held out his other hand and his knife flew to his fingers, which he promptly stabbed into Eveser's hugely muscular arm. Eveser chuckled a quiet, feral laugh...Dirge gulped.

There was a loud thump and a scream as Dirge went soaring through about five skyscrapers until he finally stopped in the middle of the 6th building. He fell down to the ground, but for some reason, he stopped about halfway down, floating in midair. He looked around to see Eveser holding out his paw and flying next to him.

"What's...What's this?" Dirge coughed out. "Saving my life? I knew you didn't have it in you to kill anything...You don't have the guts..."

Eve closed his eyes. "Neither will you." He opened his paw and thrust it out, sending Dirge flying at high-speeds into the ground. His landing created a crater the size of a Greyhound Bus. Dirge opened his eyes and saw Eveser gently landing next to the crater. Dirge slowly flexed his arms and legs and began to crawl out weakly.

He took no notice of Eve standing next to him. He just crawled out on his belly and wound up on his knees. Eve stood over him, breathing smoke and sparks. Dirge looked up at him silently.

"Now...End me...Strike me down and gain your vengeance..." Dirge whispered quietly.

Eveser looked down at him menacingly. He wanted to kill him GOD he did! But...for all of his strength...he couldn't end this thing that knelt before him...so pathetic...so weak...no matter evil he was, he couldn't do it...No...He wouldn't kill him...

His muscles began to shrink and his horns ceased their eerie glow and shrank as well, but all the while, his front paws began to glow and twitch with little sparks of black electricity.

"Dirge. I won't kill you. You deserve less then that mercy. You have caused so much pain and death, no matter how hard I want to...I refuse to let you win. I condemn you. I hate you. But most of all...I pity you..."

This seemed to send Dirge over the edge. He began to shake with rage, but was too weak to raise even his little finger.

"Yes. I PITY you Dirge. You squander your power so childishly," he said quietly.

"Therefore...I damn you to an eternity of living without your power."

He put his paws on Dirge's chest gently. The black streams of electricity jumped onto Dirge. There was a huge burst of white light from Dirge's body and a sound like lightening.

"No...no...NOOOOOOOO!" Dirge screamed and grabbed Eveser's paws. He stood up, shaking and twitching madly as his clockwork bones struggled to fight back. He and Eve held each other at another deadlock, their paws interwoven. As they held each other like this, an aura began appearing around both of them. Around Dirge, it was black. Around Eve, it was white. Dirge fought madly against Eve with all his might, his black aura beginning to spill over onto Eveser's white. Eve pushed back until his aura spilled over onto Dirge's, but Dirge had mustered more of his unseen strength and was beginning to force Eveser to his knees...

"There can be only one power in this world. That power...is the power of evil!" Dirge cried above the crackling of the lightening.

Eve closed his eyes and stopped struggling. He looked into his mind and saw Cyllea's face, her eyes as the kissed for the last time...her face as they made love...when she said that she would be his mate...he opened his eyes in revelation.

"No...it's not the power of evil..." the white aura moved over the black more as Eve stood up again.

"Evil is what cowards call bravery..." he said. Dirge began to look afraid.

"Evil is what liars call truth..." Eveser's white crackled over into Dirge's desperate black aura.

"Evil is what murderers call life...your power is not evil Dirge, evil has no power!" Eve said, standing at his full height and glaring down at his enemy with all his power.

"YOUR...POWER...IS...NOTHING!" he screamed and forced himself with all of his might against the black aura as his light completely engulfed it.

There was a fading cry, as though something had been blown away mid-scream.

When the smoke cleared, Eveser stood there alone. Dirge was gone...
