Rhys' Early Birthday
#2 of Familt Matters
The following story is told from Rhys' view. there will be another one form Ash's eyes as well.
Ash awoke the next morning wrapped in Rhys' arms. Smiling happily to himself, he snuggled deeper into his older brother's embrace and went back to sleep. A few minutes later, Rhys woke up to find his younger brother snuggled against his chest. For about five seconds he thought it was cute, but then he recalled just what had happened last night. Pushing Ash out of his arms, Rhys jumped out of bed and began to freak out.
"Holy shit! Holy shit! Ash, did we..."
"Huh," Ash replied rubbing the sleep from his eyes. "What are you going on about Rhys?"
"Last night did we... did we..."
"Hmm? Oh, yeah we blew each other. So what?"
"So what! We're brothers for goddess sake! We can't do that."
"Well we did."
"How can you be so calm Ash?! What we did was-"
"Rhys, Shut up!" Ash interrupted. "I love you. I always have, if that's wrong I don't care. I just wanted to show you how much I do."
"Rhys would you please come downstairs please?" a female voice called interrupting the conversation the boys were having. "Ash, I'd like you to stay upstairs for about ten more minutes if you don't mind."
"Sure thing mom," Called Rhys. To Ash he hissed, "Go to your room, get dressed, and never mention last night again to me."
"Big Brother..."
"No Ash, I mean it." with that Ash left the room, and walked across the hall to his room to get dressed. Rhys looked around his room and grabbed his favorite jeans from a pile on the floor and grabbed a black shirt with an image of a gothic faerie on it. Slipping these on, he proceeded to grab a pair of black socks from a nearby hamper and grabbed his black combat boots and slid them both on. Next he pulled his earrings and ring from a box on his dressed. He slid the ring onto the ring finger of his right and inserted thirteen earrings into his left ear and two into his lower lip. On his way out of his room, he snatched his leather jacket from its resting place on a chair. Walking past Ash's room he hear a faint sobbing. He resisted the urge to go inside and comfort his little brother, and began to walk down the stairs. When he reached the bottom, he gave his mom a big hug.
"Good morning Rhys."
"Morning mom. What's up?"
"I'm what's up kiddo," cam a familiar voice from the living room.
"Uncle Alex!" cried Rhys running to give the older fox a hug. "When did you get back from Italy?"
"Today, I had to drop off Ash's and your birthday gifts today because I leave again to head off to Asia next week and will miss your birthday next month," Alex replied. "And Sarah here said I needed to give you your's first because of what it is."
"Alex that's not exactly how I put it," laughed Rhys' mother. "I said Rhys needs to see you first so he can get some time with you before Ash hogs you."
"Mom," groaned Rhys. "Do we have to do this today?"
"He's right little sis," agreed Uncle Alex. Then he tossed Rhys a small box. Here ya go buddy, happy early birthday."
"Thanks Uncle Alex." Rhys unwrapped the box and stopped. Inside the tiny cardboard cube was a set of key bearing the Lamborghini logo. "Uncle Alex wh-"
"Alex I though you said you bought him a cheap car."
"It was cheap, for me that is. The owner of the plan owed me a few favors and I called about half of them in. I got the car for about eleven hundred dollars."
"You bought Rhys a car," said Ash as he ran into the living room. "What did you get me?"
"Ashton Foxx is that any way to greet your Uncle," admonished Ms. Foxx.
"It's alright Sarah," laughed Alex. "He's entitled to act like that on his birthday, goddess knows you did."
"Alex!" Both Ash and Rhys laughed as their mother turned such a bright red that is was visible under her pale fur. "That's not helping."
"Relax. Come on Ash, your gift's in the garage." Leading the way, Alex ushered the family into the spacious three car garage. Sitting in the middle of the floor was a shiny new silver Vespa Scooter. Ash walked over to it and Rhys could imagine him drooling over the shiny new toy.
"Go on Ash take her for a spin," said Alex and Sarah at the same time causing them both to laugh.
"I'll be back in a little while then," called Ash as he pulled on a helmet and rode off.
"Alright Rhys it's time for me to head back to my place. I need to get some rest after my flight. Would you mind driving me seeing as I drove over here in your new car?"
"Sure uncle Alex, it's the least I could do for my favorite uncle."
"I'm your only uncle Rhys," laughed Alex.
"Oh yeah," Rhys finished the old joke with a laugh himself. "Come on, let's get going." They walked out of the garage and went around the front of the house. Rhys just stopped and stared at the new black Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 that his uncle had given him.
"I take that to mean you like the car?"
"I though that only the Italian police force could get those."
"I told you I called in some favors."
"Thank you Uncle Alex, thank you!"
"It's the least I could do for the nephew who's going to take over for me when I retire."
"That's true," said Rhys thinking about his uncle's job while they drove off. He was a freelance investigator specializing in crypto zoology, a fun job with lots of money involved. "Did you find what you were looking for in Italy?"
"Yes and no. I found the body of a lariosauro but not the head, something had eaten it off so it couldn't prove it was one."
"That sucks."
"You know, next summer you can come with me if you want."
"Where to, and what are we looking for?"
"Japan again to look for a Kappa."
"Really?"
"Yep. Interested?"
"You bet!"
"Great! I can't wait to tell Sarah."
"Alright, we're here Uncle Alex," said Rhys. "I'll see you when you get back right?"
"You bet kid. Take care of the car." Alex waved as Rhys drove off. After about a block, he called Michel an ocelot and his boyfriend.
"Hey babe guess..." Rhys suddenly began to freak out for the second time that day. "You ran over who?! How bad is he bleeding? Ok, then it's not too serious. I'll be right there keep Ash as calm as you can. When he wakes up, tell him I'll be there as fast as I can. I love you both."
