#3 of An Unknown Under Tale

Calling all Undertale fans! We're back at it again! Heeheehee.

What's up, my lovelies? Yes, the rumors are true. I'm putting up another chapter. Hooray! *Cheering erupts*

However it is also true that I was a very bad wolf and didn't post anything last weekend like I was supposed to... *Booing erupts*

Alright, settle down. Truth be told my editor up and vanished on me so I've been a bit out in the cold as far as getting things done in a timely fashion. (Especially since I started working on a secret project you guys know nothing about *cough*), BUT, excuses aside, I'm here, we're here and the writing has begun once more. So, sit back, relax, turn on the Undertale OST and I hope you enjoy this next part. :3

CJ exited the bar into the snow. Luckily the wind seemed to have died down, as he really didn't care for the cold. He looked around and located the fading visage of the red hoodie from earlier. Making off after the person, a small pang of worry crept into his mind. Something about this guy didn't seem as right as it should, but he merely took it as just an unjustified paranoia. He noticed that he had made his way out of town and was now heading east towards the caverns of Waterfall when he finally began to catch up to the stranger.

As he closed the remaining distance, the man in front of him stopped, standing stock still.

"Why are you following me?" he asked in the same voice of indifference he'd had earlier.

"Huh?" CJ was confused by the question. Honestly, he hadn't given a great deal of thought into why exactly he was following him. He overheard that he was looking for someone, so maybe he could help with that, but overall, there was this feeling of intrigue that he just couldn't shake from his mind. He wanted to know who this man was.

"I said," the stranger turned around, his hoodie rippling in the wind, "Why are you following me?"

His paw began glowing with an unholy crimson colored light and a sword materialized into his right hand; the wicked curving blade dripping pools of red that dissipated as they hit the ground. The cross guard by his hand curled menacingly upwards into sharp, protruding spikes. He held the blade in a very loose grip, swinging causally from side to side, slicing vacuums into the air around him.

CJ staggered backwards; so caught off guard that he couldn't even respond, only able to stutter incoherently and take a few steps backwards.

In one quick motion the stranger flew in his direction, sword poised to slice across his chest. Although not as nimble as he'd like to be, CJ managed to duck out of the way as the sword whizzed overhead, his new opponent skidding to a halt on the other side of him. It didn't take long for him to regain his footing, however, and he was back on CJ in only a moment.

CJ raised his arms as he used his own magic to cause shimmering blue fins to burst forth from his wrists. Acting as his shields they blocked strike after strike from the magical sword. In a burst of energy he pushed back against the attacker, flinging him backwards and sliding through the snow once more.

He came to a halt, his hood flying off his head, revealing a large face with charcoal colored fur, slight markings of crimson running through it like highlights. His maw showcased bared fangs, and his eyes were narrowed and focused, a deep blue in color. A tail swished back and forth behind him, also bearing the same red highlights.

"A wolf?"

CJ had never seen a wolf before in the Underground. It would have been quite the memorable occasion for him; had the beast currently not been trying to kill him that is. The wolf charged again, and CJ could have sworn he saw his eyes flash gold as he did so.

Putting up his arms to block once more, he didn't notice the sharp change in direction his enemy had made. Now rounding on his left side, the wolf slid under him, knocking away his legs and sending him sprawling into the snow. He cursed to himself; this was a time that he wished his mother would have taught him a little more about defense techniques and less about snails and plants.

The wolf once more raised his sword as he stood over CJ, ready to deliver what would have been a final blow.

"Wait, wait!" CJ cried out.

The wolf halted his advance.

"I wasn't trying to hurt you," the shark explained. "I was just following you to see if you needed help."

"Help?" the wolf looked at him in bewilderment. "Why would I need help from you?" He slowly lowered his hand and the sword disappeared in another flash of red.

"W-well," CJ started, "I heard you asking Grillby if he'd seen someone new around town, and that you were looking for them." He wriggled out from under his adversary and stood back up, brushing the snow and permafrost from his clothing. "I just thought I would be able to help you find them." He gave the most sincere smile he could muster.

The wolf stood and raised an eyebrow at the strange shark. He smirked and turned around.

"Go home," he stated, "I don't need help from anyone."

He started walking away again, but CJ, persistent as he was, followed.

"Well, I disagree," he stated back, "I may not be the most adept at combat, but I feel like I have a pretty good eye for these things."

The wolf snorted ahead of him, but offered no response.

"So, will you let me come with you?" CJ asked.

"It's a free Underground," the wolf replied monotonously, "I can't stop you from walking anywhere." CJ let a smile creep across his face, revealing his rows of bleached teeth. "But," he resumed, "I will not be held responsible for anything that should happen to you," he glanced backwards menacingly, "Including you getting in my way." He turned forward once more; hands put into his hoodie pockets, never even stuttering as he said those final words, and continued walking.

CJ felt a chill go up his spine, and he was fairly sure it wasn't because he was still wading through ankle deep snow with no shoes on his feet. Every nerve in his body was screaming at him to just walk away, but he couldn't. He was determined to find out exactly who this mystery man was.

They walked for ages, snow covered pines lined the icy pathway on either side, giving a lovely shade of green to the otherwise boring landscape of white. Slowly but surely they came to the edge of Snowdin, where the ice and snow melted away and was replaced with the rocky outcroppings and marshy air of Waterfall.

The wolf, never once even looking back, remained silent the entire time. CJ noticed that his ears would twitch every now and again, or he would raise his snout to sniff into the air, picking up on some scent that the shark didn't even realize was there.

CJ, however, awed at every new thing that passed him by. From the moment they had crossed over into the new area, everything had become an unknown for him. The crystals embedded into the walls which seemed to shine with an entire spectrum of colors, the constantly running waterfalls that dotted caverns around them, even the little blue mushrooms that light up when you touch them. It was a new day with a new adventure around every corner, and he was trying to make the most of it. He stole a glance ahead to the wolf leading him through the caves.

"Even if this guy is really bad company," he mumbled.

The wolf stopped and CJ flinched, wondering if he had somehow heard what he said. He watched as he sniffed into the air, and then proceeded to a rather large opening in the side of the cave wall. He dropped the small pack he was carrying by his waist and began picking up small sticks on the ground.

CJ just watched as the wolf continued collecting his tinder, developing an almost rhythmic pattern of stooping, scooping, and moving on as he did so. He finally brought it all back to where his pack was located and threw it down into a pile. He held a stare on the small pile and waved his hand causing a fire to spark up and engulf the twigs.

"So does this mean that we're done walking for today?"

The wolf looked up, then immediately sighed as he moved his gaze back to the flames. He waved a hand to the other side of the fire in a halfhearted gesture for the shark to join him.

CJ smiled again before walking over and setting his own pack onto the ground. He stretched out into a more comfortable position, enjoying the warmth of the flames. The wolf had pulled out a small loaf of bread and canteen of water, which he began devouring with vigor.

"Funny, I've seen him put more emotion into eating than anything else," he thought to himself. He looked around the area they had stopped in for a moment longer, but looked anxiously at the wolf.

"So what's your name?" he blurted out, unable to remain in silence.

The wolf still offered no response.

"Alright then," CJ continued, "If I don't know what your name is, I'll just have to resort to calling you "Wolfie," for the extent of this trip." He shot a playful look at his companion as he said the nickname.

Though not very clever, it did manage to get his attention, as the wolf lifted his head and in a gruff response answered, "Sebastian," before returning to his meager meal.

"Nice to meet you, Sebastian; I'm CJ."

The canine didn't speak again. Now finished with his meal he leaned back against the wall, arms crossed behind his head, and began to gaze upwards to the shining stones in the ceiling, seemingly lost in deep thought.

"Do you pretend they're stars too?"

The wolf looked to CJ in surprise. The shark merely smiled.

"Thought so," he continued, looking upwards as well. "I know that everyone says they wish to see real stars someday... but I can't help feel that they have something just as wonderful down here." He paused for a moment in recollection. "It's been a long time now, but I still remember the stars spread out across the night sky. They were many, but none of them shone as strong or as passionately as these stones." He turned back to face Sebastian. "I think that you all have something equal to, if not greater, in beauty to admire."

Sebastian sat stunned.

"Is he from the surface as well?" he asked himself. "Flowey never mentioned that there could be others. If that's the case, maybe he would be..." The wolf allowed a small grin to appear over his face.

"So it's CJ?" he finally asked in confirmation.

CJ looked back to him. "Yeah, he responded."

Sebastian nodded. "You're right; I do pretend they're stars."

Before CJ could reply, the wolf raised his hand again, extinguishing the fire, and drew his hood up over his head. He smiled regardless; it wasn't much, but it was a start.

The first fight scene! It's always such a memorable occasion for me. Action, drama.... more action! *sighs in contentment* I do so enjoy this story.

Alright, my lovelies, the power is flashing so very quickly I'll leave you with your QOTD, which is very simply: "Have you ever been in a fight? I honestly can't say that I have, but if you have, how did it go? Was it a full fledged duel with swords and swooning girls? Was it a drunken brawl that ended when you tripped over a stool? We want to know!"

Welp, that is all for this time. As always please leave a comment below about love, hate, answers for the QOTD, or all of the above. I will wait impatiently for your feedback and criticism. :P I'll see you next time! *Barks excitedly, waving paws in farewell*
