Chapter 7 â€" Darkness

Location: Valkyrie â€" Xan'thera System

Colin strode onto the bridge and stared at Diamond who had pulled out half the wires on the bridge and rearranged them. Djynn and Blackfire were staring at him baffled as he worked. He had just finished cross-wiring the last circuit.

"That should just about do it" he got up triumphantly, wiping his dirty hands a cloth.

Colin stared at him, he was still in reasonable doubt as to if he should attempt this or not, after all... it was very dangerous.

"Are you sure you have done everything correctly?" asked Colin with reasonable doubt. Ultraviolet was still trying to figure out the computer behind Colin, swearing loudly whenever she hit a file wall or some other problem.

"Yes..." sighed Diamond. "You have asked me that about five hundred times already..."

"He just wanna make sure that you don't fuck us ova" jeered Aires from across the room. "Pegasuses... or whatever cannot be trusted..."

Diamond suddenly snapped and slammed the conduit he was working on into the console with a loud bang. "You know... I've had just about enough of your bull...". Something made him stop, he should not be shouting like this while everyone else had their eyes on him. "Lieutenant, can I speak to you in private..."

Aries nodded after a few seconds and both he and Diamond left the bridge. Colin sighed. "Those two are never going to get on, same species, worlds apart" he thought as he continued to look over Diamond's modifications to the new drive that had only just been installed. The power systems had been completely redesigned in a way that he had never considered before.

He kept wondering if the Asgard had brought Diamond back from the dead, or if something else had. He was not completely sure whose side Diamond was on but he would find out soon enough.

Location: Valkyrie â€" Briefing Room

"What is your problem Lieutenant..." asked Diamond as he turned around to face Aries. He sat down on the chair.

"I 'ave no problem with you Diamond." smiled Aries looking at Diamond with contempt. "I have a problem with the way you conduct yourself..."

"Meaning what exactly!?" sneered Diamond turning his head.

"Meaning that 'ou led the whole plan'et of Terra into ruin... sold us out to the Asgard!" shouted Aries as his voice boomed at Diamond. "And you expect us to instantly trust!? Colin 'ight just accept that! But I don't!"

Diamond sat back in the chair as he smiled darkly at Aries. "Well you better start believing! Because we are not going to have to conversation again Lieutenant, I will not be questioned by you!"

The was suddenly a powerful blast the shook the ship, making Diamond and Aries both look at each other before returning to the bridge.

Location: Valkyrie â€" Bridge

"What was that!?" shouted Colin as the consoles on the bridge exploded. Djynn successfully manipulated the controls and called back to Colin in a matter of seconds.

"Fire detected on Engineering Level, one of the main power conduits to the core blew out."

"Strange" thought Colin almost immediately. "The main power conduits are reinforced so that they do not blow out."

The lights on the bridge began to flicker along with each of the controls going offline. "We are loosing main power all over the ship."

"This is a disaster!" thought Colin as he slammed on his console to try and make it work again. "Where is emergency power?" asked Diamond as he walked onto the bridge, almost getting caught in the door as it slammed shut.

"I'm getting no response from emergency power!" shouted Blackfire. "Life-support is going offline too..."

"What!?" shouted Colin as he moved up to Blackfire who was tapping furiously at a console to keep the console powered up. "Life-support has protective back-ups, how can that, emergency AND main power go at the same time."

The bridge doors then opened with a hiss and in walked a familiar character, however his skin was now a light green with a growth appearing to be latched onto his brain. Colin had never seen anything so terrifying. There were dark black veins that ran down the side of his face...

Munchy! What had they done to him.

"Sabotage Captain!" responded Blackfire who looked up and saw Munchy, almost making his scales stand on end. The whole of the bridge crew were completely shocked by his transformation.

Colin sighed. "Thank you Blackfire but I think I can work that out on my own."

Munchy raised his infected arm, Diamond had only just seen Munchy while the rest of the crew was paralysed with fear. He shouted at Colin. "COLIN! IT'S GALLADIA'S PLAGUE!"

"What!?" shouted Colin in surprise but before he could turn back around to face Munchy, he heard a loud gunshot as a bullet ripped through his clothes and fur and straight into his chest. At first he felt nothing but there was a sudden feeling of extreme pain as he fell backwards and slumped down on the floor, blood seeping from him

Munchy then turned as the rest of the crew began to flee out of the room and Blackfire rushed to the side of their fallen captain who was bleeding heavily on the floor.

Munchy turned and released another two bullets into Ultraviolet's torso, she collapsed onto the floor as well. His eyes were cold as he carried out this merciless culling. Aries attempted to disarm him and punch him to the floor from behind.

Munchy suddenly collapsed onto the floor as Colin and Ultraviolet lay bleeding. He dropped the small handgun that he was using.

Colin felt his bleeding chest as Diamond and Djynn rushed down to see him. He had been blasted twice in the torso from good range. He was bleeding heavily but then so was Ultraviolet who was laying next to him.

"We don't have time to take them to sickbay!" shouted Blackfire who applied pressure to Colin's wounds. "Oi Pegasus... you came back from the dead... can't you fix them..."

Diamond shook his head, he had some practice at channelling Divine energy and he could ensure the life of one of them but not both... He was not that powerful. "I can only save one of them at a time"

Colin was breathing heavily, his body was going into shock as blood dripped from his mouth. Meanwhile Aries picked up the unconscious Munchy and walked out with haste to take him to the holding cells.

"Medical Emergency Bridge!" shouted Blackfire into the communications system but the power was out and there was no way he could contact them. "Choose then horse! Before they both die!"

Diamond closed his eyes, what could be more simple. Flip a coin? Pick a card? How could he play God and decide who was more important to save... they were both needed, Colin for his command ability and Ultraviolet for her abilities and powers in nature.

Colin gathered enough strength to look up at Diamond, he sat up with blood pouring down his torso from his mouth. He spoke some of the most powerful and daunting words that Diamond could have have heard. "Save... UV" he spluttered. "Let... her... live..."

Diamond looked straight into Colin's eyes, he felt no fear from Colin. His fur was marked with blood and still he was advocating to save others rather then him. "I... c-can't" cried Diamond.

"You must... you do it" coughed Colin in raspy voice. "Or I'll blow my own fucking brains out!"

Blackfire stared from Colin to Diamond and must have thought that they were mad. "No! You can't be serious!" screamed Blackfire. Diamond nodded at Colin, hoping just maybe there would be time to save them both.

Diamond put his hands on Ultraviolet's unconscious body, he felt her smooth skin before her body was erupted with a glow of blinding light. Colin turned his body so that he could see Ultraviolet erupt with divine light, the most beautiful thing he had even seen.

Ultraviolet began to glow and lifted off the floor before her wings shot out as particles of light washed over her. Diamond looked exhausted as he coordinated his hands to return her to the floor.

As everyone was mesmerised by Ultraviolet's amazing healing, nobody had noticed that Colin had closed his eyes for the last time. He drew his last few breaths, his blood running cold.

"Miles... Ultraviolet... you meant the world to me..."
