Last Chapter-

Lady Ursa and Alex spent time helping their foster cub get acclimated to his new surroundings. The little mongoose showed his 'momma bear' and 'big brother' how he unwound at the end of the day. Similarly Lady Ursa and Alex did the same. One morning five days later while the three are having breakfast, Lady Ursa received a mysterious package....

Counter Earth Chronicles

Chapter 87: Bear Season (You Needed Me Part Three)

Day 300 (continued)

The explosion broke all the windows on that side of Castle Wundagore and sent plumes of smoke everywhere.

(All that from a little package?)

"Corbin, Alex are you ok?" My lady bear asked helping us up.

"How did you know that the package was going to blow up?" The little mongoose asked visibly shaken.

"I am a partial clairvoyant." I said to him. "I have had that ability since I arrived on Counter Earth- a side affect from transversing from my world to this one."

"Momma bear what happened?" Corbin asked.

"Isn't it obvious? Someone, most likely a rebel tried to take out the third strongest knight in the empire. Think nothing of it." She said.

"Nothing of it?!" Corbin and I said looking at each other.

"The life of one in the knight core is not a safe one. This is to be expected." She said. "Now you two clean up."

"And you?" I asked.

"I am going to call this in."

So while Corbin and I started cleaning the lair and ourselves, the senior knights converged and investigated.

"Big brother look!"

"Yes?" I said joining Corbin to stare out from the kitchen.

"More knights With momma bear! Who are they?"

"Those are my mistress' colleagues." I whispered. "You have already met Sir Ram- he is the scientist among the group. Next to Lady Ursa is Lady Vermin. She is Momma bear's best friend. Her speciality is tracking and surveillance. Next to her is Lord Tiger."

"Lord Tiger?"

"Yes he is the commander of the knights here in World One."

"Wow." Corbin said as we listened in on the conversation.

"Did anyone get a look at who delivered the package?" The tiger warrior asked.

"Only Corbin." My fierce ursine warrior said. "According to him, the delivery person had white fur, wore a cap, was wearing brown clothing and had a long neck. He didn't get a good look at the face."

"Well that is a start." Lord Tiger said thoughtfully. What about the castle's detection systems?"

"Oddly they malfunctioned during the time the assassin was here. There is no record of him being in the castle at all." Sir Ram said.

"Hmm... very convenient." Lady Vermin said thoughtfully. "If not for Alex. All of you would be dead right now."

"Is this another inside job?" The tiger commander said asking his subordinates.

"Unknown commander, but there have been whispers that certain beasts are being targeted." The evil beastial said.

"Targeted?" Lady Ursa asked.

"Those that have worked in 'The Center'. This is the third such attack." Sir Ram said.

"What happened to the other two?" Lady Vermin asked.

"Still missing." The big horned sheep said.

"Very well. Have Mara run diagnostics on the detection systems again. I want to know what happened." The commander said.

(What was 'The Center?')

Under Lord Tiger's direction, I knew the investigation would be real through. He even brought in a structural engineer to check for damage to the castle- a certain female coyote who I have gotten to know quite well.

"Alex who is that?" Corbin asked when he saw the newest arrival in the lair that morning.

"Oh that is my big sister." I said to the little mongoose.

"Say what?"

"She is a good friend of mine. We are very close so much so- I consider her and her lovers the older siblings I always wanted but never had growing up."

"Lurie how is the castle?" The commander of the knights asked.

"The reinforcements did their job sir. The impact was minimal, there is no damage to the foundation or the building's integrity only to the windows and wall. It should only take a day or so for it all to be repaired."

"Very good. Get right on it."

"Yes commander." The 'yote girl said waving to me and Corbin as she departed.

"She seems nice." The little mongoose said wagging his tail.

"She is. We should drop by and visit later."

Shortly after Lurie left. Sir Ram, Lord Tiger and Lady Vermin left to continue the investigation.

"So what now?" I asked fearing the rest of the day was shot.

"We continue our morning." My bear knight said nonchalantly.

(Really after what just happened?!)

"She isn't letting this affect her at all is she?" Corbin asked.

"I guess not apparently she is used to it."

So we left the lair and headed to the loading dock of the castle where we found and hopped into a certain blue coupe.

"This is a really unique looking car. Why was it disguised as a create?" Corbin asked.

"Because it is a really special car." Lady Ursa said as she entered it and sat down.

Corbin and I did the same.

"Sorry for the tight fit little guy, I said placing the little mongoose between my legs. It is really a two seater but we will have to make do."

With that Lady Ursa placed her paw on the dash. I did the same as well.

**Recognized Lady Ursa Knight of Wundagore Senior Grade**

**Recognized Alex Winter Specialist Castle Wundagore**

"Wha, what is that?" Corbin asked.

"Enhanced security system!" Lady Ursa and I answered in unison.

My she beast activated the hover mode on the prototype and we departed the castle on that beautiful Saturday morning with my mistress on her errands.

"So mistress what is the first stop?"

"We are going to go to a general store near the south end of the city."

"Wow, World One is quite beautiful!" Corbin said as he received a grand view of the city on that fall morning.

"What city are you from Corbin?" I asked the wide eyed mongoose.

"My family has lived all over, World Five and World Four. We recently moved to World Two about six months ago. That was also a nice city."

"What did your parent's do for a living?" My bear knight asked her 'cub'.

"They were in sales. My mother sold hover vehicles and my father real-estate."

"I see. So they did move around a lot." Lady Ursa said. As we arrived at a brick and mortar boutique like shop wedged between two buildings on a narrow city block.

The three of us got out and entered the store. It was very retro looking, a frontier-ish shop like what you would have seen in Friendship Settlement in the Cody's Gift movie.

My warrior bear gave us a list of items to hunt down while she spoke to the owner an avian female who stood about five feet tall, yellow beak, brown eyes with brown feathers. She was wearing an apron over tan shirt and brown pants.

"How are you making out?" I asked the little mongoose.

"I think that is it!"

"Good."

We presented the items to the shop keeper.

"Did you find everything you were looking for?" She asked us.

"I think so." I said.

"Ok thank you, come again." She smiled at us.

"Don't you need to ring this up or something?" I asked.

"It is ok pet. You can put those in the coupe." Lady Ursa said.

"We have the latest technology here. The items will be tallied and added to your tab when you step through the door."

"Wow, so despite the store looking old, it has the latest technology. Cool." Corbin said as we walked outside.

I gently opened the 'trunk' of the prototype and placed the supplies back there. As I did I couldn't shake the feeling that we were being watched. I looked up and down the tight street and narrow buildings and saw humans and beastials going about their business. Despite that, the feeling would not go away.

"Something wrong pet?" My mistress said joining us.

"Ah no." I said.

"What were you talking with the shop owner about?" Corbin asked my bear knight.

"I was following up with her about her new security system. She had suffered from a few break-ins recently. So she upgraded some systems in her store. She said that eliminated the problem."

"That was that new check-out system she was using. The items are charged to you when you leave the store with them." I said as we sat back down in the prototype.

**Deflector System Activated**

The prototype announced as soon as we closed the dome.

"That is odd why did it do that?" I asked.

I didn't have to wait long for an answer.

*BUMP*

The prototype was nudged by a white sedan that was driving erratically down the street weaving left and right.

The three of us looked at each other. My mistress powered up the blue coupe and gave chase.

"What is that driver doing?" I asked my she beast.

"It is probably a medical situation." She responded calmly. "No one drives that recklessly without a reason."

Lady Ursa quickly drove after the weaving car. As she caught up to it. She pressed the second black button in the column of black buttons on the weapons console.

**Side-pod engaged**

Corbin looked out the passenger window and saw something open up from the chassis of the prototype as my lady bear activated the weapons menu on the third monitor in the center stack.

She touched the monitor as she made her selection.

Corbin watched as a cross hair appeared on the windshield.

Lady Ursa lined them up with the bumper of the weaving vehicle and pressed the left most toggle switch on the weapons console.

**Tractor hook engaged**

Corbin saw something fire out of the side-pod that had opened up just below the passenger window.

**THWOK!!**

"What was that?!" The little mongoose asked puzzled.

"Something we use to slowdown weaving vehicles." My bear knight said as the hook hit the bumper dead center of the weaving vehicle. "Hold on you two."

She hit the brakes. The cable the hook was connected to pulled tightly bringing the white hover vehicle to a stop.

"Cool! Do all knights' vehicles have this?" Corbin asked.

"Most of them." Lady Ursa said stepping out of the prototype to check on the driver. "You two stay here."

I hopped over into the driver's seat and looked at the image in the upper left monitor from the prototype's front camera. As Lady Ursa approached the vehicle.

"This vehicle has cameras?" The little boy asked.

"Yes there is a small one mounted on the nose." I said zooming in on the driver of the car.

"Alex! I, I recognize him!"

"The driver Corbin?" I said turning to the little mongoose.

"That was the beast who delivered the package this morning!"

!!!

Corbin warned me fraction of a second before my clairvoyance kicked in.

"DAMN!" I said as Lady Ursa approached the driver side window.

"Morning sir are you in need of medical assistance?"

Quickly I pressed the first black button in the column of black buttons on the weapons console.

**Side-pod Engaged**

I then made my selection from the weapons menu.

I used the thumb pad to center the crosshairs on a black object that the driver of the white vehicle suddenly aimed at my mistress. I quickly pressed the fire button on the steering column next to the thumb pad.

**Laser System Engaged**

The laser fired from the left side-pod cutting through black object causing a small explosion that knocked my mistress backward on to her butt.

The driver realizing what happened took off leaving his vehicle's bumper on the street.

"Was that a laser?! Cool!!" The little mongoose next to me exclaimed.

"You did not see that." I warned him as I retracted the left side-pod. "Stay here." I said as I left the prototype to check on my stunned warrior bear.

"Mistress!"

"Thank you pet."

"That was a ploy to draw you into a ambush. The driver wanted to kill you." I said helping her back up.

"When I approached him, he was silent. He just aimed some device at me." The stunned warrior said.

"Did it look like a weapon?" I asked her.

"No some sort of black box." She said kneeling down at the melted fragments. "I am going to give these to Mara for analysis."

We walked back to the prototype. Carefully I stepped over the tractor hook and cable re-entering on the passenger side.

"Wow, that was awesome!" The little mongoose exclaimed.

"Uh oh here come the questions." My she beast said as she retracted the tractor hook and cable."

"This is no ordinary hover vehicle is it?!"

"You can answer that. I will go get the bumper."

While I picked up what remained of the sedan's bumper, my she beast fielded questions from a curious little boy about a certain blue coupe we are in.

"This is a high powered weapon disguised as a blue coupe?! Awesome!"

"Yes Corbin. It is a early prototype. Not many are aware of the vehicle's existence." Lady Ursa said.

"So not a word about this to anyone." I said to my 'little brother.'

Corbin nodded. "Momma bear, did you get a look at the driver?!"

"A male llama." She said to her 'cub.'

"I am pretty sure he was the one who delivered your package this morning."

"Wait." I said as she was about to drive off. I pressed the third toggle switch on the weapon's console. The copilot monitor and keyboard emerged from the glove compartment.

"Wow!!!" Corbin exclaimed as I pulled up the feed from the front mounted camera.

We all watched what had just happened and then re-watched. I zoomed in on the driver a white llama, red shirt with a long neck.

"That is two incidents this morning. I think you are being targeted. No, I know you are being targeted." I said to my she beast.

"Who would want to target momma bear?" The little mongoose asked.

"Who wouldn't Corbin? Rebels, separatists, dissidents, criminals. The line starts over there." Lady Ursa said. "Be that as it may, we better call that in too."

So we headed back to the castle where Lady Ursa gave Mara the bumper of the white car and the remnants of the black box for analysis. After the quick stop, we went to the beach. The same one my mistress and I walked on after I attended the consortium's inaugural meeting.

"Corbin don't wander off!" My bear knight warned her 'cub'.

"Okay!" He said in the cutest tone as he wandered off.

Now that I had my she beast to myself, I let the questions fly.

"So mistress what do you think is going on?" I said as we stepped out of the prototype.

She looked at me.

"There have been two attempts on your life in a matter of hours. It doesn't take a genius to realize someone has it in for you."

"They are welcome to try. They will fail next time too."

"That llama, does he look familiar?" I asked her point blank.

"Some what." My lady bear said evading the question.

"Has anyone else spotted him?"

"No. The white car has also gone missing."

We stayed at the beach for about an hour before leaving to go on my bear knight's other errands. The next one was on the east side of World One.

"Why are we here?" I asked as we arrived in the 'basement' of the city.

"A follow up to an investigation I have been conducting."

"Investigation?" Corbin asked.

"Someone has been setting housing units on fire. In particular those of the poor. My contact here said he had additional information."

Lady Ursa parked the prototype in front of a particular run down building and walked inside ordering myself and Corbin to stay put.

My she beast met with one of the tenants of the building a blond haired man wearing a nice shirt and pants for twenty or so minutes while Corbin and I remained in the prototype.

"Something wrong little brother?" I asked the mongoose.

"Now I am feeling it too."

"What feeling?" I asked the mongoose boy.

"That we are being watched."

"I have an idea." I said activating the copilot monitor and keyboard again. "I am going to try something- you didn't see this either."

**Holo-projector Engaged**

I projected an image of my she beast and her contact talking on the front steps of the building.

"This vehicle is amazing!" Corbin said.

"The halo projector is usually used for surveillance, but has other uses as well."

**Deflector System Activated**

The deflector system came online again.

"Alex."

"I know. The prototype detected something." I said as Corbin and I started looking around.

!!!

No sooner had I said that a large upper portion of the building fell off and landed on the projection of Lady Ursa and the human.

We looked up just in time to see a shadow glance down to see if the target had been hit. It then fired on the hologram of my mistress and the human before disappearing.

"That tears it, someone is hunting bear today- my bear." I said deactivating the holo-projector.

"Can we take the prototype up to look around?" Corbin asked.

"We could if I knew how to pilot the thing. But we will have to use something else."

I was about to engage the probe when Lady Ursa emerged from the building.

"Pet what's going on?" My lady bear said looking at the pile of bricks, cement and laser burns that were on the ground in front of the building's steps.

"Another attempt on your life mistress." I said.

"Pet?" She asked.

"Corbin felt like we were being watched, so we conducted a little experiment with the holo projector." I said to her.

"We were right momma bear." Corbin said.

We showed my mistress the footage from the front mounted camera. Upon seeing it, Lady Ursa gasped.

"I will handle it." She growled.

"This has something to do with the whispers Sir Ram has heard and 'The Center' doesn't it?" I said looking at her.

"I don't want you two involved any further. Understood?" She said sternly.

Corbin and I nodded.

"So what is our next destination?" I asked.

"Can we make it lunch? I am getting kind of hungry." The little mongoose boy asked.

"How about the Wild's restaurant and bakery? We are on the east side already."

"Sure, we haven't been there in a while."

"What is the restaurant called?" Corbin asked.

"Into The Wild." Lady Ursa responded. "They renamed it last week."

And so my mistress took us out to lunch. It was a blast seeing Diana, Hue, Corey, Mia and Lolly again.

When we arrived, I told my mistress and Corey to go on inside I would be along in a minute. I took that minute to fish through the trunk of the prototype. Actually one of the storage bays adjacent to the trunk where the weapons payloads were located.

Upon my entrance to the restaurant, I sat down at our preferred booth. Dianna and Hue were already talking to my mistress and Corbin.

"So you and Alex are watching this little guy are you?" The female centaur asked.

"Yes, until he can find a new home." My warrior bear said.

"I hope you find a warm and loving family Corbin." Hue said.

"Thank you." The little boy said.

"Hue and I couldn't conceive for obvious reasons so we adopted and it was one of the best decisions we have ever made. Corey and later Mia have brought endless joy into our lives." The centaur in the white apron said to us.

ARF!! ARF!!

"Oh and you too Lolly." Mr. Wild said to their husky.

"My lady- you know motherhood looks good on you." Mrs. Wild said to my she beast.

"I have mentioned that too." I said grinning at the brown bear I was seated next to. At the far side of the restaurant Corey and Mia also seemed to notice as they continued waiting on tables during the lunch hour rush.

"The Wild's are quite a family." Corbin said staring at Hue and Diana who went back into the kitchen to prepare our meals.

"Yes they are true pioneers, an interspecies couple. A human who fell in love with a centaur. Diana opened up this restaurant and it caters to all humans and beastials alike."

"What about their dog? She seems like she is a beastial but isn't." Corbin asked.

"Oh that. Someone tried to turn her into a beastial but was only partly successful." I said.

"She is a partial beastial." Lady Ursa said as Corbin stared.... "We are still investigating."

Just then my bear knight's communicator sounded off.

"I have to take this pet." She said.

"Is this about the...." I started to say.

"It is." The bear said cutting her eyes at me.

Carefully, I slid out of the booth we were in so she could get up and head outside the restaurant to talk in private. Before she left I gave my warrior bear a big hug.

"What is that for pet?"

"Just because." I said.

"Right, I will only be a moment." She said stepping outside of the restaurant. She then walked to an alleyway nearby.

Corbin and I waited for her to return- for a while.

"I wonder what momma bear is doing?" The little boy asked me.

"Probably setting up some type of ambush. If I know her. Three attempts on her life today that seems a bit much." I said to Corbin.

"It is like she has a target on her back. Did she call for back up?"

"She is her own back up." I said as our meals arrived. "But still I wonder what she is planning?"

Ten minutes went by, then fifteen and then twenty.

"That must be quite the call. I better check on her." Corbin said leaving the restaurant.

He then re-entered with a real concerned look on his face. "Momma bear is gone!"

"What?!"

I left our booth and headed out the front of the restaurant. Lady Ursa was no where to be found. I walked to where we had parked down the street.

(Oh No!)

There had been signs of a struggle over turned garbage cans and a black burn mark on the street. I also noticed scorch marks on the prototype but the big telltale sign was my warrior bear's communicator shattered on the sidewalk.

I picked it up and ran back into the restaurant.

"She is in trouble!" I said to the little mongoose boy.

"How could that be? You said she was the third strongest knight in the entire empire and that she was her own back up." Corbin said.

"I don't know, but something has happened, come on."

I told Dianna and Hue that we had a emergency and that we would have to catch up with them later.

Corbin and I immediately left the restaurant and jumped back into the prototype.

**Recognized Alex Winter Specialist Castle Wundagore**

"Big brother how are we going to find momma bear? She could be anywhere!" Corbin said scared.

"You remember when I hugged her as she was leaving the restaurant?"

The little mongoose nodded.

"Well, I stuck a tracker tracer on the underside of her cape." I said as I powered up the prototype. I then selected tracker tracer from the weapons menu.

"There!" Corbin said looking at the upper left monitor in the center stack. "Twenty miles from here we should be able to catch up with them in no time!"

"Well not exactly." I said humbly.

"What do you mean?!"

"I never learned to operate a hover vehicle." I said to the mongoose boy who just stared at me in disbelief. "The vehicles on my world were ground based and did not fly."

"Which means?" He asked me.

"We are driving." I said as took off.

Corbin gave me directions based on the tracker tracer's location as we were racing against time as well as some timely advice.

"Alex that sign means stop!"

"Oh, I know that." I said.

"Big brother watch out for the pedestrians!"

"I see them Corbin."

"Alex, do you want me to drive?"

"I got it. What is the prototype's status?" I asked the mongoose.

"Huh?"

"Lady Ursa's assailant shot at it. Look at the upper right monitor."

"All systems look normal."

It took us thirty minutes to reach our destination- it would have been longer if Corbin hadn't chosen the quickest routes. We arrived at an old reclamation facility at the north end of World One. The building was dilapidated and looked like it hadn't been used in a good fifteen years.

"She is in there." Corbin said.

"Creepy." I added.

"Time for some reconnaissance. Let's switch seats."

I moved into the passenger seat while Corbin sat in the driver's seat.

"I get to sit here?! Cool. But aren't you worried I will touch something?"

"Go ahead and try." I said as I engaged the copilot monitor and keyboard.

Corbin placed both his paws on the steering wheel.

*\ **Not Authorized***

The prototype announced.

"It is a fail-safe in case this vehicle gets into the wrong paws."

**Surveillance Probe Engaged**

I quickly took the probe for an overview of the grounds. There was a wall around the facility, a watch tower and a guard shack at the main entrance. Both abandoned. After that there were three long rectangular buildings about the same size in length.

(Damn! It would take time to go through these.)

I started moving the probe through the upper windows of the first building as the communicator in the prototype sounded off.

"Well, if it isn't my favorite test subject! Is Lady Ursa there?"

"No." I said to the female goat on the view screen.

"I have the results from the items she left at the lab."

"Go ahead." I said as Corbin and I studied the images we were receiving from the probe.

"The black box she brought in is called a shock box. It is a weapon that disables its target non-lethally- but very very painfully."

"How painfully?" I asked the wicked goat lady.

"By simulating a heart attack- it dramatically slows down the intended victims heart rate causing them to collapse as if they had had a heart attack. They are quite illegal."

"Really?" The mongoose boy said. "So that was what was aimed at her in front of the general store!"

"And the restaurant as well- with more success." I said to him.

"Oh hello. Corbin is it?" Mara said rather wickedly.

"Yes ma'am. Any idea who it belongs to?"

"I was getting to that. The paw prints trace back to a Harrison Music."

"Is he a llama?" Corbin asked the wicked goat lady.

"Yes. How did you know that?" She asked us.

"I saw his twice this morning." The little mongoose boy admitted.

"That is not possible. He died fifteen years ago at the reclamation center!"

Sir Ram's main squeeze now had my full attention.

"Mara is that center on the north side of World One?" I asked her.

The she beast nodded.

"What is a reclamation center?" The little mongoose asked the goat lady.

"It was a disposal facility for beastials who were deemed imperfect. When the master first created us, he used the facility to dispose of beastials he deemed flawed."

"I was under the impression that flawed beastials were devolved and returned to the wild." I said to Mara.

"They are now little human, but back then they weren't. They were dissembled molecularly and their remnants recycled for some of the master's other experiments."

"Let me guess the High Evolutionary thought it was more efficient that way." I said returning to the probe's camera.

"Mara who was in charge of this reclamation facility?" Corbin asked.

"Lady Ursula well that was what she was going by at the time." Mara said.

"Momma bear?"

"I think I know what is going on here 'little brother.' Mr. Music survived his visit here and now wants revenge. Mara this is a dire emergency, I need to speak to Sanda NOW."

Mara contacted the watch supervisor around the time the probe found its target.

"Alex. How can I help you." The caracal who appeared on the monitor asked.

"Lady Ursa is in extreme danger. I believe some one from her past is extracting their revenge." I said to Sanda.

"Alex look!" Corbin said.

We watched the image from the probe. We saw a unconscious brown bear hanging from a crane being moved over to a large circular vat of green goo. She was being observed by five beastials including a white llama, a camel, a platypus, ostrich and rhea all applauding furiously.

(Were these survivors of this place as well?!)

"Sanda she needs back up!" I said to the watch supervisor.

"Lady Ursa?! She is her own back up...."

"I am sending you the image from the probe." I said to him.

The caracal's mouth dropped wide open. The beastial rejects were positioning her over the vat.

"Our time's up!" Corbin screamed.

"The closest knights are five minutes away." The caracal said.

"DAMN!" I screamed looking back at the image from the probe.

"Alex don't be reckless! Wait for back up!" Sanda said.

"By then it will be too late." I said ending the communication."

"Alex what are we going to do?" Corbin said scared.

"If we go in there guns blazing they will kill her anyway." I said to the little mongoose. "Place your paw on the dash Corbin."

The little boy did as I ordered.

"Emergency authorization for Corbin Mongoose Wundagore Castle. Authorization Alex Winter Specialist." I said locking the probe into position.

"Alex?"

"I am going to rescue her." I said to the little mongoose.

"Alex?"

"You are going to be the distraction. Wait to you see me on the probe's monitor and then move in."

I gave the little mongoose boy a very quick tutorial on how to operate one of the most powerful weapons the knights' possess before jumping out of the prototype, running top speed past the guard shack, tower and making a bee- line for the third building.

I knew that within the prototype the little mongoose was smiling with glee. Was I nuts charging him with this important task?

Strangely enough there weren't any guards on the property at all. I ran to the third long building up to the door and went inside.

The interior was open. I saw my beloved she beast was about to be lowered into the vat of green goo. She was out cold.

"What do you think boys?!" The llama said. "Should we wait for her to wake up, then dunk her or just dunk her now?"

It was the white llama from this morning. He was at the far wall operating the crane's controls.

"It don't matter." A disfigured camel said. "She has been a hard one to kill but you got her this time Harrison."

"Yeah, don't you just love when a plan comes together?" Mr. Music said to his accomplices.

Quickly I scanned my immediate area for anything I could use as a weapon- I found a two by four piece of wood.

(Well not exactly a knight's weapons but it will do.)

I just hope Corbin saw me on the probe's camera.

*BOOM!!!*

Came a loud explosion as the far wall of the building was ripped open most likely from grenade.

(Yup, he did. He is such a smart boy.)

"What the hell?" The platypus shrieked.

"I thought we were alone out here?" A ostrich next to him exclaimed as a familiar vehicle drove in.

*YOU ARE PRISONERS OF THE KNIGHTS OF WUNDAGORE GIVE YOURSELVES UP NOW!* A youthful voice said via the PA system of the prototype.

"We are being threatened by a cub in a blue coupe?!" Another of the disfigured beastials said.

"Let em him have it boys!"

The ostrich, rhea, platypus and camel opened fire on the prototype.

Now was my chance. As the llama stepped away from the crane's controls, I hit him in the face and stomach with the two by four and then on the back knocking him out.

(He was a weird looking beastial anyway.)

I quickly ran to the crane and moved Lady Ursa, who was still out like a light, away from the vat.

As the llama came to, I whacked him again.

"And stay down!"

Mean while the disfigured and deformed beastials continued firing their laser weapons at the prototype. Corbin reacted in kind; I saw the second side-pod open joining the first and flames shot out from both causing the four assailants to duck to the ground.

Then came the machine guns. Corbin ventilated the vat of green goo with so, so many holes. The stuff oozed out coating the platypus, camel, ostrich and rhea who were standing beside it.

"AAAAHHH!!!!!"

To our amazement the four beastials started melting!

(Was that what the llama had planned for my mistress?)

*AHEM, AS I SAID YOU ARE PRISONERS OF THE KNIGHTS OF WUNDAGORE GIVE YOURSELVES UP NOW!*

Corbin's demands were met with screams from the melting beastials.

Carefully, I made my way toward him around the puddle of green goo and the melting assailants.

"Was that too much?" The little mongoose boy asked me.

"Nope it was just about right." I said to him as the knight core arrived.

To Be Continued....
