"Ready?" Talus asked me as we stood hand-in-hand in front of the door to the reception area. I kissed his cheek.

"More than ready." I whispered in his ear, then looked over to Padeus. He nodded and opened the door for us.

Thunderous applause met our entrance and I smiled from ear to ear. Probally over two hundred relatives and friends had come, all standing and cheering. I looked over at Talus and found he was already staring at me. I melted and brought him into a deep kiss to the redoubled cheers of our audience. Talus backed away and nuzzled my cheek, then led me to the table of honor by my arm and just as any gentleman would, he seated me first, then took his own seat. Talus gave me a hug and triumphantly showed off both of our wedding rings before the noise finally quieted down. I poked my lifemate in the side to get him to say something and he shakily stood to his feet.

"Friends, family." He greeted. "As is well obvious, Adras and I have joined our hearts for all time..."

I chuckled as Talus' speech was cut short by more thunderous applause. He protested by waving his hands around to get everyone quiet again.

"So that means that through all of my nervousness, my fumbling and bumbling and all of the stress to get everything 'just right', we stand before you with grins on our faces and eternal love in our hearts." Talus leaned down to pick me up by my paw to stand at my feet, then turned back to the crowd. "Ladies and gentlemen, may I proudly present to you and whom I love more than life itself; my lifemate Adras Saffire Williams."

I blushed to my eartips and squeezed Talus' paw as more cheers echoed and resounded in the reception room, a wide smile spread on my muzzle. Talus moved his fingers over my ring, running his thumb over the three diamonds there, then turning to me and whispering a quiet "I love you." in my ear. I leaned into him and hugged him close, knowing that the stones set into my ring meant nothing compared to the love I felt for him in my heart. I knew that whatever superficial beauty those diamonds held paled in comparison to Talus. I cried in my joy, a wide smile spread across my muzzle and held onto my lifemate for all I was worth, the crowd's noise fading in my mind to a whisper. Talus smiled and cried his own tears of joy, kissing my head lovingly and stroking my back. When our moment of silence was finally broken, I raised my eyes to him and gave him the sweetest of kisses, causing the crowd to aww in appreciation. Talus didn't remove his eyes from me as he slowly sat us both down, food being set before us and the caterers going about their business. I finally broke my eyes from him and turned to the food, the hunger in my stomach returning. I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned to see my brother standing there, his hands held behind his back. He pulled his hands around and handed me a white rose, smiling and whispering in my ear over the sudden din of dinner noise.

"I talked to your mate and found out you love these, so here's one as my apology for what I said in the cafe." He said into my ear. I took the rose and shook my head.

"There's nothing to forgive. I already forgave you when you came to the wedding, don't worry about it." I half-shouted back as the noise became suddenly louder.

"Thanks bro!" Padeus shouted as he backed off, doing a little bow as he walked away to his place at the table of honor. I reached down and held Talus' hand, squeezing it as I thought back to our first date even as I dove a fork into my food.

I wiped my muzzle off, catching a small droplet of stray sause there and looking out over the crowd as they filed to the dance floor. I looked over at the empty area behind the floor, finding no one there, no DJ, no band, no amps...nothing. Suddenly, to the thunderous applause of the crowd, filed in at least a dozen tuxedo clad musicians carrying violins, cellos, clarinets and one very familiar looking doe who rolled in with a full-sized harp. I stared in amazment, then found Talus with a smug grin on his face, looking down at me and finding my expression so funny he burst into histerical laughter.

"You didn't think I wouldn't go through the trouble to make this a night to remember did you?" He laughed.

"Talus, it's so wonderful..."

"I know. I know sweetie. Just enjoy it, that's all I ask." My lifemate turned to me, getting up to his feet and holding his right paw out. "May I have this dance?"

I gladly took his hand and we walked paw in paw to the dancefloor. After a few moments of silence while the tiny orchestra set up, a vieniese waltz started and I took my mate's paws in true ballroom dancing style, his right hand on my hip and our left ones intertwined. The other guests just watched us as we had the first dance of the night, Talus twirling and twisting me all around the polished oak to the slow, romantic style of Italy. The music reached its climax and Talus took me in his arms, kissing me deeply and passionately as the last notes floated through the almost magical air. The crowd applauded and finally took the floor, making some couples get jostled off the rather small area. I smiled and led Talus by his paw away from the floor to get a drink at the open bar. Talus obediently followed, a wide grin on his face and took the libery of giving me a playful pinch on my rear making me squeal with surprise. I turned to him, and even more playfully and very gently slapping his muzzle.

"Now, now Talus. That's for la-" I said, stopping dead in my tracks as I eyed who was at the bar.

A orange colored bengal tiger met my eye, downing what was surely much more than he was allowed to drink. More than his obvious disregard for the rules of the reception was that I recognized and did not harbor any warm feelings towards him. I let Talus go and almost crept over to the bar, tapping the slightly drunk male on the shoulder. He turned, spilling his drink as he did all over his lap. I struggled to speak, then finally found my words.

"Kaji, what are you doing here? I didn't-"

"-Invite me?" He coughed. "No, no. You shouldn't announce your engagement in the paper then..."

"Get out of here. Now!" I said, raising my voice slightly. The tiger snickered.

"Or what you little slut? Are you going to slap me?" He said as Talus walked up behind me, holding my hand.

"What's going on Adras?" He asked, eyeing the feline with suspicion in his eyes. Kaji tossed his empty glass at me, the plastic cup bouncing off my chest and hitting the floor.

"Your bitch here isn't happy to see me!" The tiger mocked. I felt my lifemate's hands begin to shake in pure rage. "He'll fuck me but not say hi..."

"Whoever you think you are buddy, you had better leave right now before I call the cops over here." Talus growled through clenched teeth. Kaji laughed again, mocking us both while I started to cry.

"Cry for me Adras, you know you still want me. C'mon, let's fuck again!" The tiger said, very suddenly dropping his pants. I huddled into Talus, shielding myself from the cruel intentions of the orange nightmare.

Suddenly Talus pushed me aside into a chair, looking eye to eye with my old boyfriend, a snarl of hate on his face.

"You had better take that back and leave before I..."

"Before you what? Hurl some very bad language at me?" The tiger laughed his sadistic roar. "I've come for a fuck, just gimmie Adras and I'll be back in a few hours-"

Before I could react, Talus swung his right fist with all his might, making contact with the side of the tiger's face, sending him flying towards the bar and slamming into it. The feline, now enraged and spitting blood, charged my mate. I screamed for Talus, but he quickly ducked out of the way of the flying tiger, landing another blow into his side as he pounced through the air. Kaji landed on the carpet, wretching in pain, but refusing to give up. He looked up at me and jumped, his claws extended and his teeth bared. I curled up into a ball, unable to think clearly and ready for those sharp fangs to rip into my flesh. Suddenly out of the darkness came a crushing thud as Talus' foot came in contact with the tiger's face, knocking his front canines out and a small piece of tongue flying out. I cringed in horror and scrambled away under a table as I watched my lifemate look down at the now unconcious bengal and then crack his knuckles in satisfaction. He bent down to look at me under my table, crawling towards me his face full of worry and regret.

"Adras! Honey are you all right?!" He cried out, tears coming to his eyes. "If you're not, I swear I'll never forgive myself..."

"I'm fine sweetie! I'm ok!" I said back, leaping into his arms and hugging him. I looked up to see the late arriving police as they surveyed Talus' handiwork. One of them, a greying hound, whistled appreciatively.

"This your work son?" He asked, poking Kaji and looking at Talus. My lifemate nodded.

"Quite a display. What happened here?" He asked, bending down to look at us eye to eye.

"He was my old boyfriend and showed up univited to...rape me." I said, with a little unstabe voice. Talus hugged me tighter.

"He tried to kill Adras." Talus stated more correctly. The old hound looked at me square in the eye.

"Son, look at me." I obliged, tears running down my face. "Did he deserve this?"

"He deserves a lot more than that." I said, gaining some more courage. The hound nodded to his partner, who called in for an ambulance and placed a pair of handcuffs on the stone-cold tiger.

"Then we'll take him away. I know your dad from years ago and I know he wouldn't raise a lying son. Have a nice party and call us if you find any more trouble." The hound started to back off, then turned to Talus. "And you! No more Bruce Lee impressions ya hear?"

"Yes officer. Thank you." My lifemate said for us. I closed my eyes and buried my muzzle in his arms, feeling much safer and amazed by Talus' strength. The hound walked over to the still unconcious Kaji, looking down at his bloodied form and shaking his head. Talus kissed my cheek.

"I'm sorry if I ruined today..." He whispered, sounding clearly hurt. I kissed his chest.

"No, no. You don't have anything to be sorry for because you just saved my life!" I mildly scolded, reminding Talus of what he had just done for me.

Talus nodded and hugged me tight as the crowd dispersed and the night dwindled. The orchestra stopped playing around midnight and packed up their instruments, the harpist walking past us as we rested at the bar and waving. I jumped and ran over, grabbing the doe's hand in a pawshake.

"Jade! I thought I recognized you!" I said, smiling broadly.

"Yeah, I knew I 'ad to play for you, you're the best customers I ever had!" She said in her still thick British accent. Talus waved his tired salutations from the now clear table of honor.

"We gotta go home Adras, I'm exausted." Talus called to me. I nodded and turned back to Jade.

"So how goes your fiancee?" I asked to the delight of the doe.

"Our wedding plans are going well, I only hope I can have a day as magical as yours has been." Jade said, smiling and leaning on her harp. I blushed.

"Well, you can thank Talus for that..."

"Adras?" Talus said, getting up and hugging me from behind. "Let's go home sweetie..."

I squeezed my lifemate's arms, reassuring him. "We'll see you later then Jade. We have to head on back now."

"'at's fine Adras, I'll see you both later." Jade said, hoisting her harp up on its carrying wheels and rolling it out to the waiting van outside to go home. I closed my eyes to rest them awile, just enjoying my mate's tender embrace.

"Off to home then?" Talus whispered in my ear. I nodded.

"Yeah." I brought my lifemate's arm up to my muzzle, giving his hand a soft kiss. "Thank you for today. I love you."

"You don't have to thank me, it comes naturally for me." Talus kissed the back of my neck. "I can't find the words to tell you how much I love you, but I hope today was some indication of that."

I smiled. "Then let's go home..."

I groggily stepped inside the doorstep to our house, leaving Talus to lock the door and follow me to bed. I stripped my shirt and pants off, dropping them carelessly to the floor, leaving me in my underwear. Talus stepped in just as I was about to disregard my last shred of clothing and stood there in the doorway just staring at me strangely. I giggled and dropped the tight clothing, kicking it away on top of the pile of my other clothes. Talus sighed and leaned on the doorway, watching me in the darkness. I walked over to him and smiled, grabbing his paws in mine.

"C'mon Talus, let's go to bed." I suggested.

Talus followed submissively, his eyes never leaving my body as we padded over to our giant bed. I tossed off one of the sheets and sat my lifemate down on the edge of the matress, moving his legs up under the covers. As I was gently laying the covers back over him, he leaned up and kissed me on the cheek, making me smile instinctively. I quickly ran around to my side of the bed and jumped in, snuggling up to Talus and kissing his cheek.

"I love you." I whispered. Talus stared blankly at me.

"Adras...that tiger..." He asked his voice wavering. "Who was he?"

My smile faded as old, terrible memories rushed back into my head. I took a deep breath and tried to continue. "He was...an old boyfriend of mine. He...abandoned me for someone else three years ago. I havn't seen him until tonight."

"Are you ok?" He asked, looking down at me and hugging me tightly. I nodded.

"I'm fine, but could we never talk about him again?"

"Sure sweetie, my curiosity just got the better of me." Talus whispered, kissing me on the muzzle in apology. I rested my muzzle on his chest and sighed.

"Talus, where did you learn to fight like that, excusing my curiosity?"

Talus snickered. "For a while I was in with some tough characters when I was younger, in my teens. I never told you this, but when I was sixteen I joined a neighborhood gang and stayed in until I was eighteen. They taught me how to fight, but now most of them are...well...dead, or in prison for some offense or another."

I looked up, more amused than anything else. "My sweet Talus was in a gang? I don't believe it!"

Talus smiled at my befuddlement then sighed, looking in my eyes. "Adras, I want you to listen to me very carefully ok?"

I kissed his hands, holding them in mine. "Of course."

Talus took a deep breath then continued. "Adras, I want our marriage to last forever, I want to always show my love to you in new ways, so I'm making some promises to you. First, I will never be unfaithful. Second, I will never allow anything to become more important than you. And last, I will always try to make up for any mistakes I will make; I don't want you to be angry with me for something I can fix."

I kissed him on the muzzle. "Then that will be our promise to each other."

Talus held his left paw out, his single diamond ring shimmering in the moonlight. "I promise all this to you, and my promise will never be undone."

I took his paw in mine, my own triple studded ring adding to the brilliance of the night. "And I promise you I will never allow our love to be broken."

Talus kissed my hands and whispered some quiet lyrics that we often sang to each other. "I'll love you when the moon is high..."

I smiled. "...And the sun has gone low..."

"...I'll love you when the tide is high..." Talus sang, nuzzling my neck.

"...and the winds have blown..."

"...I'll love you until the end of time..."

"...and eternally so." I ended the verse, smiling broadly.

"See you tomorrow love." Talus whispered in the darkness. I closed my eyes, still holding his hands and one thought going through my head:

I am so lucky...

I love you Talus...
