Explosions sounded off all around the human and the Lucario. The city was on fire and there was nothing that he could do about it. Flames raged on all sides of them, leaving no chance of escape. Balls of fire expelled from smoking buildings that surrounded him. The Lucario held onto his waist and didn't't let go as more blasts came from a building beside them. The human screamed words of love to his Lucario as the supports broke away, leaving the building to fall on the doomed couple.

Wake up. Seriously, wake the fuck up!

A black trench coat drifted through the corridors of the Galactic Veilstone Complex as a rainy day coated the building in cold water. It was tall and imposing, even on the citizens of the city it occupied. Pokémon rights activists were sometimes around the front of the building, tying to implicate Galactic of crimes that they had committed, but their cries always fell on deaf ears. There was no concrete proof that they mistreated Pokémon in here. Also, there wasn't any clear evidence that Azlef, Mesprit and Uxie even existed, let alone had horrible experiments done to them.

The man with the trench coat walked through another generic corridor before stopping at a giant G on the wall. He leaned over to a miniature tree that was in a pot near the mural. He flipped open a little hatch in the tiny trunk and placed his finger on the scanner. After a few beeps and clicks the G swung open, revealing the REAL inner workings of the Galactic Empire.

"Jason! Come on in, I am awaiting your report!" a blue-haired man said.

"Hello Cyrus, I can take it that you are doing well?" Jason said, exchanging small pleasantries with his employer.

"Fine, as always. We are almost to the same level of control that we were at. A great deal of credit goes to you and your talents, as well. Speaking of which, I take it that you have tracked down our target?"

"Which one? The female with the Absol, or the male with the Lucario? Or are we talking about a few new individuals that we are looking for?"

"I want you to concentrate your resources on Jonathan, I want him brought in for questioning and then you can deal with him. Do you have leads on him?"

Jason smiled and tossed a newspaper onto the desk.

Veilstone Times Headline:

DO WHAT IT TAKES

By: Constantine Chase

After surviving a twenty story fall, battling a serial killer and defying the odds multiple times, it would seem that he would take it easy. Jonathan Stormglade decided that he'd go at it again last night in a high-stakes battle with our own champion Maylene. The man who defied death would also defy defeat after a thrilling battle that had everyone paying for the whole seat, but using only the edge.

"I still can't believe that you are the..." Kate paused and then said in a sarcastic announcer's voice, "man who defied death." She laughed and poked him with a piece of bacon.

"Shut up, I'm not done reading. ‘Using only the edge...' man, who makes up this shit anyway?" Jonathan asked as he threw a piece of a hash brown at Kate, which she caught with her mouth.

The match opened with a thrilling battle between Jon's Mightyena and Maylene's Meditite. The wolf was able to outsmart and defeat the pint-sized prize puncher with a single command from Jonathan. A Trainer who seemed to let his Pokémon do whatever they wanted proved that he was tactical in his approach in dealing with the Psychic-type fighter.

The match wasn't over when he released his tiny Charmander to face off against the giant Machoke. He proved that a valiant heart and a red-hot courage was all that was needed to beat any adversary. Of course, being able to fire off flames reaching upward 250 degrees Celsius would help you too. One would wonder about the training methods used to achieve that power.

Finally, there was an epic battle between Maylene and Jonathan's Lucario, respectively. After twenty hard-hitting minutes of Pokémon brawling, Jonathan just knew what he'd say to his Pokémon for encouragement. "He'll never take you alive. Do what it takes to survive. ‘Cause I'm still here" resounded through the gym as the two fighters were engaged in a fist-lock.

With one of the most powerful displayed of Aura-use ever recorded in Veilstone history - or even recent battle history for that matter - the battle was finally over. Maylene refused any comment about the battle while she was in the hospital with her Pokémon and a Veilstone Gym representative issued the following statement regarding the battle:

"Maylene wishes to offer her sincerest congratulations to Jonathan Stormglade for winning the battle. She regrets not being able to confer upon him the badge but knows exactly how he feels. Her Lucario is still in serious, but stable condition and is recovering nicely. We send our congratulations to Mr. Stormglade and wish him the best of luck in future endeavors."

"Wow, I have never been in the newspaper before. This is really cool. Though I really wish I chose a better lyric, you know?" Jonathan asked.

"It worked for me master, don't complain," Kate said as she kicked his leg under the table.

"Umm, excuse me. Can I talk to you for a second?" a female voice came from behind him.

He turned around and there was a spectacular sight to behold. A blonde girl in her late teens with a charming smile and blue eyes approached him. Her blouse was also unbuttoned about two buttons too low and he could swear he saw the white lace that lined her bra. "Hi, my name is Mary, I just wanted to know if I could spend some time with you, Jonathan. I'm a big fan and my boyfriend dumped me recently, and I was looking for somebody to spend my time with. Seeing how you are in town I was wondering if you'd like to..." she bent down to his height with her shirt showing a remarkable amount of cleavage, "... you know, hang out, just you and me."

Kate wasn't taking any of this, there was a human slut wanting to get into her mate's pants! She lowered her ears and growled at her. Jon chuckled, when she wasn't in a battle this was actually kind of cute. "There there, Lucario. She just wants to talk; you finish your meal there," Jon said in a nice, calm tone.

Jon thought a bit. How to tell an attractive girl that he wasn't interested without her knowing or at least suspecting? He thought of the "I'm gay" excuse plus a few others he had heard but he decided he would go with a classic.

"I'm sorry Mary, but I have a woman waiting for me back home. Though I do appreciate the offer from such an attractive girl as yourself. Plus I don't want to be a rebound guy, with my travel schedule you'd just end up getting hurt," he politely lied to the now disappointed girl in front of him.

[Plus, even if I did decide to hook up with you, you'd have every guy in Veilstone pumping into you when I was gone, you stupid bitch,] Kate heard Jon say in her head.

It didn't sound right. Not right at all.

She decided that she would bring it up later. She smiled as the girl left, knowing that her master was true to her and only her. No matter what might come in their way, she knew that they could get through it together.

Fires everywhere, the whole village was burning! The screams of the innocent cut through the smoke. Where was she? Where could she be? The heat from the flames intensified... then everything cut to black. Everything was cold.

Jon yelled in rage as he shattered the nightmare.

He pointed at the dark figure in his head; at least he thought it was his head. "You know, I am getting pretty fucking tired of this!"

The figure's hair flared. "You know, you are lucky we such an affinity for each other or else I'd probably kill you for your outbursts."

"Oh no, I certainly do love this. First we have lovely conversations whenever I can crack your fucking nightmares." He raised his hands in a helpless but somewhat uncaring way "Then I find myself with my girl almost being killed whenever it actually goes through!"

"It's not my fault you know. I do have a reputation to uphold, and I just have no control over my innate abilities."

Jon glared at Darkrai. "Well I for one am sick of it! This has been going on for weeks and it certainly looks as if you are in perfect condition, why do you still have to use me as a vessel?"

"You know I can't tell you that."

"Fuck that shit! Seriously, if we have this ‘affinity' as you keep on referring to, then why don't you share a little something with me. Like how I was able to jump off a building and survive. Don't try to use Hypnosis on me again like you do every night, I want some answers! Although I still don‘t know how it works since I already am asleep..."

Darkrai looked at the third human who never looked at him in terror or in fear. Darkrai saw what he saw within himself and he actually liked the pitiful human in front of him. He was independent, fierce, strong, intelligent, adaptable and most importantly he was filled with darkness, quite like ones from before. Not that it was a bad thing to be filled with, it was certainly a lot better than evil or the oh-so-righteous good that Cresselia loved to push along. Peace was nice but if you wanted to get a job done, sometimes you just have to do things that people don't like. That's how Darkrai battled _____ and it has worked out pretty well.

"Alright young one, I'll tell you why I can't leave your body. That man who was following me wants me, all of me. If he gets his hands on me, he gets my power and everything about him will multiply tenfold. Now I am dark, but mixing that with evil would certainly be absolute chaos. Right now he is having some regard for other's lives and the law; however that is only to fulfill his goals without attracting too much attention. He sticks to precise movements to further his goals. Now the only reason why he blew up the building is because the fewer survivors there are, the better, and he didn't expect the flying machine to see him. Now if he' got me, he'd probably blow up buildings and kill for no reason whatsoever and he'd be near unstoppable."

"So basically I'm your meat shield."

Darkrai looked at him for a minute and nodded. "To be honest...yes, you are. I‘m also completely fine with that too."

Jonathan shrugged his shoulders. Sometimes life just hands you a raw deal, but sometimes it evens out. He now had enough money to live on for about six months if he spent it wisely and never battled, he had the love of his life beside him and he had a few life goals. First was to achieve League Champion status and live off of that for a bit. Second was to be the best mate he could be. Third was to live happy. Although he wasn't going to actively pursue Jason, if he met up with him again...

"You'll kill him?" Darkrai finished his sentence as if reading his mind, in which he was residing.

"Why not? You got something against it?"

"No, but you need to understand something about the person you are battling. You know how I am inside you in a spiritual form?"

"Yeah, what does Jason have?"

"Well he has _____ in him. Instead of _____ just being there, though, he actually possesses the body it inhabits and hunts for me and Cresselia."

"Whoa, I didn't even understand what it is inside of him. It wasn't in the ‘I don't know that word.' I actually didn't get it at all," Jonathan said, still floating in the stream of Nothingness in his mind.

"_____? Oh, it is a complex concept to understand, I wouldn't expect you to catch that. Basically think of a being that corrupts the hearts of people it inhabits. It hunts down Cresselia and me so it can spread itself and cause eternal chaos. Do you know what? Let's just call it Chaos, with a capital C." Darkrai explained.

"Chaos is pretty lame, man. You know if anyone else was listening in on us, they'd think you make up pretty damn bad names for stuff."

"Well I don't see YOU making up the names! Chaos it is and Chaos it shall be! Either way, it just would corrupt and enhance the human or Pokémon it inhabited a bit. However Jason is enhanced in some way that I have never seen before. I have no clue how it could be like that but it is actually making me nervous that he can hunt me down so easily."

"Why is he going after you anyways? Why not Cresselia?" Jonathan asked, hoping to gain more time before he woke up.

"I've been the one he has been fighting for about a hundred years. I am easier to fight in a sense because I travel alone. Cresselia is a good Pokémon, people like the person she uses as a vessel. Plus, I haven't seen her for about fifty years now."

Darkrai grabbed Jonathan by the neck. "Oh, by the way, watch out for the wall on your left."

As he threw Jonathan into the Nothingness again, he gained consciousness and woke with a start. He bolted to his left in surprise at waking so fast and smashed his forehead off the wall.

"Fucking douche bag!" Jon said.

He could swear he heard chuckling in the back of his mind as his mate woke from the hotel bed beside him.

"Alright, now tell me how to do this again..." Jonathan groaned in desperation later, after a nice lunch.

"You have to concentrate on your core, you know...the life essence of yourself and everything!" the slightly annoyed female Lucario said.

Jonathan was trying to detect aura again for the umpteenth time. In Pokémon school he was taught that it was impossible for humans to control aura and that the effort was futile, but this little furball in front of him was determined to prove that theory wrong. The main reason why he suspected Kate was pushing him so hard was that they seemingly had an aura-bond that most Lucario had. He felt it and so did she, so why shouldn‘t this work? So with that small but hopeful thought and aura in mind, he was going to dot this if it killed him, or his mate did.

Judging by his progress, it would be the second option.

Kate poked at the fire that they had been sitting by for three hours, and the sun was high in the sky as Jonathan's other Pokémon played around them. Charred fish bones littered the sides of the fire pit along with unclean cooking utensils. They were staying at the resort on route 214, his winnings allowing them to stay there for a few days before they ventured out for more badges.

"You know, it would be easier if I had some kind of inspiration if I knew why I was doing this," Jonathan said.

"How is this for inspiration? One, I won't let you fuck this," she said as she lifted her tail and flashed him her ass (which was clothed now), "until you do. Secondly, I want to become mates on Lucario standards and I can't do that unless you can control some of your fucking aura!"

He thought hard and tried to sense things around him bit it still didn't work. This was getting pointless! He felt just like when he played games that he was having trouble at, he would get so far and continually lose at the same point. Then it dawned on him. When he either gave up or decided to just take it slow and remember that it was only a game, he would succeed.

He relaxed and firmly decided that if he didn't get this within the next ten minutes that he would try again tomorrow. He just sat and thought of nothing really. Butterfree and Beedrill lazily crossed his mind as he imagined kissing Kate. Then he saw it, a faint outer glow to the left of him. It was barely there, but it was there! He calmed down again and loosely concentrated on what was a light-blue blob. He then saw that it formed into the shape of Kate and was where she was sitting, lightly poking the fire with a stick. He then looked around him at all the shades as they slowly formed in his mind.

Jonathan smiled at her and winked. "Your aura is ice blue, so is mine, the Wurmple in the corner of that tree's branches is lavender, Luxray is yellow, Charmander is orange-red, and Mightyena's aura I think is purple."

She looked at her mate with an annoyed face, yet proud that he was able to get it! "Nice, really nice. At least you got it honey!"

"I'm not getting any tonight am I?"

"No."

[Ha! Looks like we have a quiet night tonight, Lucien!] Mightyena yelled to his rival, who was currently grabbing some berries.

[Finally, about time they fucking stopped is it not Shadow? The tent smells of them sometimes!] the Luxray laughed.

Jonathan's eyes were wide open in shock as Kate stared at him. She just caught on to what happened and Jon concentrated on his aura and tried to link with his Pokémon.

[Since wh...id you lear.... to swear Lucien? I don... rememb... teaching you to... ay tha...]

"Just for that you are getting some tonight, and as a reward for finally seeing aura!"

The concept might have been broken, but the message wasn't and you didn't need your perception to tell you that.

This didn't look right, not right at all.

"Alright you skinny little fucks!" A slightly better-ranked Galactic member shouted to his comrades over the helicopter's motor, "You little shits are going to go down to that resort at nightfall and steal every fucking miserable fucking Pokémon you can fucking find down there! We expect shit-all from security since we got the bigger fuckin' Pokémon and we got more fuckin' men! So get your shit together we land in five! We fail at this and I'll chop off your tiny-ass dicks and send your sorry ass back home to your ugly-ass mothers in a fucking body bag! You hear me?"

"Sir, yes sir!"

One grunt looked out at the shining lake underneath him, watching Pokémon run around. Someone with a Lucario was walking toward their destination far ahead of them. The grunt smiled, knowing that he'd get a cool Pokémon after this was all over. He would really like a Lucario, maybe a Blaziken...

Jonathan arrived at the resort as three helicopters flew over his head, which was strange because the last thing he remembered going over the resort was the absence of air traffic of any kind; not even airplanes flew overhead. He really hoped that nobody was hurt. It would suck if you had to be airlifted out of a classy resort to go to a stale hospital. Now that he thought of it, he didn't even know if he was airlifted when he was hospitalized. That would have been cool.

As cool as it would seem, the helicopter turned slightly to the right and he saw that it wasn't an airlift helicopter; the giant G made him think twice about the night ending well. Something was going to go down, and he wasn't going to let their plan, whatever it is, to go off without a hitch.

In fact, he was going to fuck it up.

A Galactic grunt jumped out of the helicopter on the beach a little bit from the resort. His mission was to knock people out or kill them, and then take their Pokémon. They had a twenty-man hit squad and he was the rookie. He hoped that his performance tonight would bring him one step closer to Cyrus' best squad. His dreams would have to wait as he jumped over a small bush fence and ran to the first house as night started to descend upon Sinnoh. Alright, this was it. He kicked down the door and released his Poochyena.

He looked around; there was a small bed at the far side of the room, a tiny kitchen opposite. It appeared to be unoccupied. He let out a breath and chuckled at how tense he was. He turned around to leave, withdrawing his Poochyena.

A blond-haired man was standing in his way. "Hi, I'm here to make sure you don't succeed," the man said as a fist connected to the grunt's face.

The last thing the grunt remembered was that the man had oddly red-colored eyes.

Jonathan flipped open a tiny notepad that he started keeping in his pocket. He flipped open a page and read along a list.

To Do:

  • Determine the amount of Galactic Members (This was scratched out with a large 18-22 next to it)

  • Find out why they are here.

  • Stop their advance.

  • Find their extraction point and sabotage it. (Also scratched out. Lucien was able to find their helicopter before their advance)

  • Kate (with a :3 beside it)

  • ????

  • Profit

"Alright, well I guess I can't find out what they are here for from this guy. Probably just to steal everyone's Pokémon," Jon said as he bent down to the limp body after scratching out that particular line.

The Grunt's head was bent at an odd angle; blood flowed from his mouth slowly. He didn't know if he was dead or alive. "I don't know how you got me to punch like that, but thanks honey."

"Is he dead?" Kate asked, not really concerned about the outcome as Jon rummaged through the Grunt's pockets, taking his wallet and removing the bills.

"Oh yeah. He isn't going to be getting back up. Now let's go and stop them before some innocents get hurt," he told her while he marked a line on his arm with his pen.

[What is the plan then?] Ember the Charmander asked.

"Well, Lucien knows what he is going to do; I guess it's to just keep going at them until they go back to that helicopter of theirs. Then we end this."

Mightyena howled as they ran from their hotel room, eager to get the hunt started.

"No! No, please...don't do this!" a woman yelled as she was thrown to the bed, he dress ripped in several places.

"Sorry bitch, but while my Grunts are wrecking havoc I'm going to enjoy myself. So you just keep it quiet and I'll make sure that you don't die," the Commander told her as he took off his pants.

The woman, however, wouldn't stop screaming. Somebody was going to interrupt them while he was having fun! That just would not do. He reached for the bowie knife at his side and straddled her body, if anything she would still be warm until he was done. He drew the knife from its black leather sheath and raised it upon his victim. Then a sudden pain burst from his chest as a tip of steel cut through the front of his uniform.

His sword fell to the ground while someone threw his body to the floor. He looked up to see a slightly bloodstained figure bending over him. He kicked the base of the knife, embedding it in the wooden floor. Through pain-filled hate, he stared at the man who had done this. He was tall, for one thing, and had blonde hair and blood on his clothes. However, the one thing that he noticed was his crimson eyes, staring right into him as if they were peering into his soul. The man picked up his dropped knife, whipped it around a few times, and sliced across the Commander's neck. Blood flowed from his mouth as his vision faded and he drifted out of this world.

"Ma'am, are you okay?" Jonathan asked the distraught woman.

"Get away from me! Don't touch me!" She screamed, edging back against the bed and bringing her knees to her chest.

Jonathan sighed and picked up the man's leather knife sheath, wiped the blood on the guy's uniform, and then attached the clasp to his belt. He thought back to those survival classes in school and wondered if his teachers would approve of his methods, he doubted it. "You know it just seems that it's weird that this is the deadliest thing man has created on a personal weapons scale, blades. Well they do have explosives but nothing that is really that deadly." Jonathan mused.

"Considering that pretty much everyone has a deadly creature at their arsenal it seems pointless to make anything deadlier. C'mon I can fire balls of aura from my paws," Kate said.

She made her point on a Galactic that burst through the door looking for his boss. A blast of aura made him hit the back of the wall while she ran at him and hit him with a close Force Palm. She walked back to her master as the body fell to the floor, ribs pounded to almost dust and lifeless. "See? Now let's get out of here. I think we can get to the helithingy".

"Get to the choppa!" a Galactic Grunt yelled before an Absol pounced him and tore out his throat.

Galactic was in full retreat. Apparently, attacking a resort that only rich trainers stayed at was a grave mistake. It seemed that they were either accompanied by high-level Pokémon that their parents gave them or that they legitimately had relatively high-level Pokémon that equalled theirs. Plus a few of them had quite the grudge towards Galactic.

A teenager came from the shadows a few hundred meters away. She had dark brown hair tipped in a deep red, charming green eyes and a Blaziken following her. She approached a Galactic standing guard at one of the helicopters from behind and was going to knock him out; that was before there was a slight motion ahead of them. She balled her hand into a fist and launched her weight forward as she aimed to knock out the man.

Unfortunately when her fist connected to the back of the head... he was already dead. His body crumpled to the ground before she could connect. Her momentum caused her to take a step further and she found herself with a bloody blade underneath her throat.

"You aren't Galactic, I'm just going to assume that you are here for the same reason I am. Don't betray me or you'll have me bleeding you dry." a serious-toned voice told her.

Then the mood totally changed as he drew his blade away and sheathed it. He smiled at her as the helicopter's blades caused his blonde hair to flow around. He had crimson eyes, but it was his smile that made her seem calm. He gave her a thumbs-up as his eyes flashed to an emerald green. "Then we'll grab some waffles! I know a great place in Veilstone! I'm Jonathan Stormglade!"

She stood up and wiped the blood from her knuckles. "I-I'm Jessica. Jessica Crozier."

"Pleased to meetcha! Now we need to blow these things up. Got any ideas?" Jonathan asked, yelling over the noise of the motor and blades.

She was too taken by surprise with his change in personality to make any plans. She looked around and noticed the gas intake cover. "How about Blaziken fires into the fuel tank?"

Jonathan picked up a steel rope that was on the helicopter and pried open the gas intake cover with the commander‘s blade that he had taken for himself. "Good plan, I'll take care of the other helicopter."

Jessica started running away to a safe distance as she saw Jonathan open the other gas tank and partially slide the cable into it. A Luxray, Mightyena, and Charmander followed him as they took down another Grunt. She winced at the scream and crunching of bones, but apparently Jon wasn't taking any prisoners.

Soon Jon joined her as rain started to fall from the sky. As they slid down the cliff, a bolt of lightning flashed across the sky. They hit the sand running until they were at the water's edge and hid behind a boulder.

"This is going to get-" Jon was cut off as both Blaziken and Luxray launched powerful attacks towards the helicopters, but Jessica swore he said "fun."

As the flames licked along the end of one helicopter, a bolt of electricity hit the steel rope in the second. Sparks and flame ignited the gas and for a brief second night tuned almost into day as they exploded. Jessica heard Jonathan start to sing as he patted the head of his Lucario, listening to his Pokénav.

"I stumble through the wreckage, rusted from the rain

There's nothing left to salvage, no-one left to blame

Among the broken mirrors, I don't look the same.

I'm rusted from the rain, I'm rusted from the rain"
