First day of being a demon

You know, I can't jump to that point without saying how I got this way. It was a school field trip and we were at a mine. I'm curious by nature and ended up getting lost in the many tunnels and found one of the mythical gates of hell. It was really just a door painted with fire, actual fire. Behind it was a group of demons and a comm centre. I was recruited then and there because I knew too much. After basic training, I went to hell, which I was told was in the core, but was really down the tunnels a bit. That's a pretty dodgy story I know. Needs a little fleshing out. Let's continue like this.

As I'm being escorted to the main complex, I hear the guards chattering. "How long you'll think he will last in their?" "dunno. Probably longer then you before you pussied out" "that was 30 years. How do you expect someone his age to last a month?" "you did" the chattering stops as we reach a door, which opens at our presence. Behind it, several soldiers stop and watch as I'm marched through towards a sort of castle in the middle of the cave. As I get closer, I feel a tingling in my back and struggle to pull my shirt off and reach back to feel small wings unfurl from my skin, stretching out to a span of 60cm each (as an adult it reaches 6 metres. Speed and agility is a must). Very surprised, I reach the castle and enter the doors, looking around before my eyes rest on a man by a throne at the back of the hall. Before reaching halfway, he steps from the throne and walks closer, kneeling to be at my level. "what's your name boy?" I hear in a silvery tone. "Nathan" I meekly respond, unsure why I feel uncomfortable around him. "that name holds no value as my future champion. From now on, it'll be known that your called Delta. As scribed from many champions before you, the name has power. Learn and adapt to it boy" he says, the tone slowly shifting to commanding. Shaking a little, I nod and the guards lead me to a room in the castle, where a woman waits, books and pages in her grip. "I'm your tutor. Everything about powers, legends, known wars, you learn from me. But first, you should sleep. A night here will help open up your mind and you'll absorb basic memories to help understand how this will work" she states, placing the books at a table and motions to a bed in the corner. Tentatively I walk in and onto the bed, laying on my back. Looking over I see she is organizing the stack, and I slowly drift off.

I hear music. Its slow and graceful, a mixture of strings and percussion. Sitting up, I look around and see a gramophone with a vinyl spinning in place (trust me, I'm that old). I walk over, and check the case. Its no one I've heard of, so I leave it be, relaxing on the chair. Shortly I hear the door open and see the same lady from before, and I jump off the chair, ready to run. "That isn't going to work kid. You'll be stopped before you get anywhere " she says, seeing my posture. "I don't care, I just want out" I almost scream, bolting through the door and down the hall, which immediately closes ahead and behind me, the only way to go is back to the room. Reluctantly i go back, and sit at the desk "what now?" I ask, holding back tears. "now, its time for an education. First book, history of the industry, followed by a brief martial training to wrap up the day. Start reading, and I'll be back" she heads out the door, closing and locking it, as I drag the book closer and start reading. (Fun fact folks. The book was half finished. Its an artefact that depicts all events, and even gives an estimated time of when the industry shuts down, given how many pages are left, and how many are used for a decade of facts). As I read, I notice the name Delta listed several times, mostly during times of great peril, be it a revolt or great war. The last record in the book before my Delta is listed, has another Delta saying the use of arbiter to describe the Delta's is folly, and champion fits better. (Which Delta means what here?). Putting the book down, the door opens and another young boy walks in, followed by the lady. "what's he doing here?" I ask. "he's going to help you learn to fight" she responds, folding the bed into the wall, opening a decent size space. "take your positions" she commands, the boy instantly takes a stance I've never seen before, and I raise my fists, something telling me to shift my feet a certain way, and I do, seeing the boys eyes go wide, but stays in his stance. "when I say, use everything you know to pin the other. Start" instantly, the boy let's loose a high kick, which I duck and try to punch his back, but he moves faster, completing his spin and blocking, a nagging in my mind tells my to move in a series of flows shown in my mind. Starting low, I bring my left foot around in a sweep, before snapping high with the other, kicking the boy down, and leans forward on my right foot, trapping him by his stomach. "Very good. Leave us boy" the lady says, the boy scrambling to his feet before leaving, bewildered he lost. "Delta, what you probably dont understand, is how you fought, was like those before you. As I said, memories will come to you, its the instinct that kept the champions alive until they either wasted away with age, or got overpowered. To avoid the second event, your going to receive a team of specialist around your age. But before then, you have to learn to be a leader. You should sleep. The day is over, and you'll ned out for tomorrow". I don't remember falling asleep, but those words ring in my mind as I dream, seeing the previous holders of my name, most are wielding blades of similar style, always in pairs, except for the very first. He's holding one, with a rifle in the other, a gauntlet on his wrist housing another dagger sized blade.
