#2 of Furry Basketball Association

I enter the FBA world. Here is one of the players that I have created.

This takes place in the FBA universe.

Jona Vastenhout sat on the bench outside the university and looked out at the sky while the headphones blared electronic trance music into his ear. Summer had just begun which meant only one thing to the beech marten; he is going to declare himself into the FBA and be the best he can be at the sport.

Jona (Yona) started life right outside of Rotterdam in the Netherlands being the third child in the family having an older brother of four years and an older sister of three years. By the time he turned three he picked up a ball and never let go of it; throwing it and kicking it at every moment. His parents figured he would make a good world football player in the future and helped ease Jona along with his ball handling skills when he wasn't doing any schoolwork.

As the years progressed for the young beech marten he continued to gain his footwork by playing football with other school kids as well as the neighbor kids yet something felt missing from the back of his mind. While he enjoyed the sport, he wanted to make good use of his hands as well. The goalie position seemed like a good idea but that would limit the use of his legs as he also liked to run and catch people off-guard with his legwork.

The moment came at nine years of age when the family got together to watch the Olympic events. While the world football events took most of the airing time, there were some days when the main television showed other sports. And that's when Jona has his first experience with basketball. The number of countries that he watched over the next few days gave him inspiration; a sport where he can move like the wind and at the same time make good use of his hands. What sealed the deal for the boy was when he watched the United States play. They seemed to be on a whole different level from the other countries as they dominated the court with their elusive ball handling and quick footwork.

This was it; Jona had found his calling. He quickly showed his parents the sport on the television knowing that they would be supportive of what he wanted to do. And they did even though they were a bit disappointed about him not venturing on into world football. The studies started with the players from the United States; which ended up showing most of them were part of the Furry Basketball Association. "That's where I want to be", Jona said out loud. Reading up on positions, studying on the play moves, and watching various FBA videos were all part of the beech marten's road to being not only a successful basketball player but also the best he can be. And that would be the start of his new life.

His attribution to be the best didn't stay within basketball; it also showed in school as well as in social activities. Every subject he attended he exceled in; which included being fluent in three different languages - Dutch, English, and French. The social activities with his friends include skipping rocks across the lake the fastest, marathon running, and even popping wheelies on the bike the longest; the latter giving him a few scrapes and bruises when it didn't go well. All in all, anyone that met Jona would tell you that he tries harder than anyone else in the neighborhood.

Jona's relationship with the family is as good as it can get. His father worked at the port while his mother stayed at home and tended with the kids. While he got along with his sister, Steffi, he was best friends with his brother, Wesley. When his parents did help him out into achieving his dream, Wes was there with him from schoolwork to basketball skill and everything in between. They were nearly inseparable even thought they were three years apart. At twelve years of age, Jona promised his brother that he would make it to the FBA and then he would bring the whole family over to America so that they would see his first game in person.

A big factor of his life would be music. When Jona entered a rave club with his brother at sixteen one night, he became instantly hooked to the scene. The music, the lights, and the people actively dancing drew the beech marten into the dance floor and he blended into the crowd thanks to his practice of basketball and world football. Although he enjoyed going to raves and dancing, he didn't go there much. Instead he focused on the music and brought albums of artists he liked, ending up with an ecletic collection.

At the same year, he finally made his way into the Rotterdam basketball league and started to make a name fo himself there. While his shooting still needed work, his passing and running ability helped out the team in more ways than one. Everyone that played him said he is very quick and that the ball would disappear from their eyes when they least expect it. Jona improved with each year until he graduated from school. At that point he needed a way to get to America so that he can start his FBA career. That came from a coach's phone call to an agent.

A week later Melissa Ware entered the Vastenhout household and interviewed Jona; which lead the two back into America and placing him in a University in Boston. She wanted to make sure that he enrolled and did two years of study while playing for the team; in which he accepted. He was unknown in Boston Interspecies University until he started playing basketball for the team. News spread quickly about Jona's playstyle; calling him the next Point Guard superstar for the FBA and everyone would be waiting for the announcement of him entering the FBA draft.

Jona Vastenhout is a beech marten coming in at 6'3" and weighing 214 lbs. He will be playing as a point guard.
