Movie Night

It's said that people always lose a friend when they get in a relationship, so what happens when you get out of it? Can people get back what they left behind or is it time for a new beginning?

For Murray, this would be the night he found an answer to those questions.

It was just another Friday night for the orca. Snacks, beer, and a big pile of cheesy horror movies to watch. Everything arranged in such a way that he'd spent the least amount of effort until next morning.

He had even brought his favorite blanket to keep him warm. Only from the waist down, though. It was too short, but what else could be expected when it was a gift from "him".

However, just as he was about to get the remote, he heard someone knocking on the door. The orca stood up and looked through the peephole only to be greeted by a patch of white fur. There was only one person he knew that would be coming that late, and he was afraid he already knew why. With a sigh, he opened the door.

-"Hey there, Murrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry."

-"Laine."

Murray stood at the doorway for a moment as he looked at the rabbit. Laine was giggling like a bimbo and reeked of alcohol. Just how much had he drank?

The orca rolled his eyes, "Come in."

Murray stepped aside and waited for Laine to get inside, but the rabbit just stayed there with a dumbstruck face. He looked at the apartment and back at his friend, stopping several times to try to say something before it slipped his mind.

-"He's staying with his girlfriend, so it's just the two of us."

As if woken from a spell, the rabbit smiled at his friend and got inside; his friend following not so far behind. Laine had almost gotten to the couch when he lost his balance.

As if by reflex, Murray caught him before he fell. The orca could feel his friend's fur on his chest as he held him closer. So warm and soft. If it was up to him, they'd stayed that way for the rest of the night, but life was not always fair.

Murray took Laine under his arm and guided him all the way to the couch. After making sure the rabbit wouldn't fall, the orca sat next to his friend and waited for him to talk about what happened.

This wasn't the first time, so he already had an idea of what it may be. Still, he waited for what felt like a long time. That's when he felt a breeze on his chest and remembered he was shirtless.

After excusing himself, the orca went for his room. He smelled a few shirts on the floor and his bed until he found one that didn't smell that strong. Happy with his choice, he went back to the living room where he found the rabbit drinking a beer.

-"No." Murray said as he held the shirt with one hand and the rabbit's hand with the other.

Laine was pissed off, but the orca didn't budge an inch until the rabbit let go of it. Murray sat back next to his friend, not intending to move again until the latter talked. Since it looked like it'd be a long night, the orca turned on the TV and put the first movie he had intended to watch.

A group of friends were driving on a car when they almost crashed with a truck driving on the other lane. A girl screamed and a smile appeared in Murray's face. The acting was so exaggerated and--

-"It's Marlene."

Figures.

Murray took a few sips of beer as he listened to the rabbit's story. It was nothing out of the ordinary. Laine had decided to surprise her at her home when h found her with another man, a tiger to be more specific. Instead of denying it, she took pride in her acts and ended their relationship there and then.

-"You're better off without that bitch."

The rabbit shot him an angry stare before turning to look back at the floor.

Too soon? She was a female wolf, and a slut, so how else did he expect him to call her? It's not like it was Murray's fault that he said things as they were, or at least that's what he liked to tell himself. The orca went back to watch the movie for the time being; but the bad makeup and fake blood flooding the set were not enough to distract him.

He really loved her...

Murray got closer to his friend and put an arm over him. Laine, with tears still in his eyes, looked at him. The orca flashed a warm smile at his friend. It didn't matter what happened, he'd always be there for him.

The rabbit closed his eyes and moved his head closer to the orca's, when he felt a hand in his chest pushing him back.

-"You're drunk."

-"Haha, I guess you're right."

Rejected, the rabbit settled with being held by his friend as the hours went. Murray, more interested in Laine than the movies, watched as the rabbit slowly dozed off and left to sit in a chair so that his friend could have more space to lie down and rest.

-"Thanks, Murray," the rabbit said just before dozing off, "If only you were a woman..."

And he was gone.

Murray stepped up and carefully grabbed his blanket. It'd fit the rabbit more, given that it was his size, but he was covering himself with Murray's shirt. The orca went back to his chair, before turning around one last time to see his friend.

He got closer and thought about petting him. Murray had to admit that one of the reasons he hung out with the rabbit was because he liked the feeling of his fur on his skin. However, he decided at the last moment to not do so. It'd wake him up.

The orca limited himself to see the sleeping face of his friend. So frail and delicate. He didn't blame the female wolf for what she had done. With a face like that, he also sometimes wanted to hurt him. Just to see him cry.

Moreover, there was something inside him that made him hunger whenever he saw the rabbit. So weak. So vulnerable. So pure. It was no wonder why Laine only seemed to find girls that treated him as they did. Hell, even Murray had to stop himself from gobbling him up.

When the orca came back to his senses, he noticed that he was standing next to the rabbit's face. Their lips almost touching. His heart raced. It's not like anyone would know. Murray licked his lips and put himself in position.

But could not go through at the end. The orca went back to his chair and covered himself with Laine's blanket before taking a last look at his friend.

-"If only I was a woman..."

There was still some of the rabbit's beer left. Murray put it in his lips and enjoyed the last of it before sleeping away. Dreaming of the relationship he would never have.

He may not be young enough to expect, or even need, his love to be corresponded; but a man can always dream, right?
