Sam's Story...

Sam woke up first as usual, yawning as he looked down at Chase's outline which was nestled against his own. Leaning in he have a gentle lick to his nose, Chase sleepily returning it, and opening his eyes halfway, kissing at Sam's lips who chuckled softly. He took Chase's chin up with his fingers, and gently kisses him back, the two quietly making out curled up, exploring the others mouth.

Sam broke the kiss and gazed down at his partner. "I hope I'm always able to see those eyes, so bright and warming. Without you I'm not sure where I would have been this past few days." He said holding Chase tight, who giggled and snuggled closer.

"Don't worry, I don't intend on going anywhere." He replied, nuzzling at Sam's neck. Sam turned his head and gave Chase's own neck a little nibble, the other wolf gave a small gasp and tilted his head to the side.

"That's so cute." Sam said with a chuckle. Chase's face got hot, eyes half closed.

"It is not...Stop laughing at me..." He said in a little voice, as Sam continued to kiss and bite softly at Chase's neck, under the chin, happy little growls rising in Chase's chest. Sam paused and gave a little sigh. Better now than later.

Chase...I got something that I need to tell you...Something I should have told you the first time we met probably..." He said looking at Chase, with sad eyes.

Chase immediately showed sign of worry. "What is it?" He asked, looking up and moving to hug him. "Are you okay?"

"I'm." He began and paused, finding no simpler way to say it. "I'm homeless...I was kicked out of my house shortly after I came out to my dad...I've been living on the streets for two weeks now, save for these last few days...Will be three." He finished, tears forming in his eyes. Chase stared for a few seconds, taking in the words watching Sam as he spoke, before tugging Sam tighter.

"Why didn't you say anything? Where have you been living this whole time? Why would your father do that!? Where IS your father!?"

"Baby...Please not so many questions..." Sam said holding him close and sighing. "I live just a few miles down, at a camping ground inside one of the cabins. I have to wake up early to get to school, it's the only thing I have to do all day, and it feeds me for free. If they ever found out I was homeless I'd probably be taken to a home...As for my father, I haven't gone back home since, so I don't know what he is doing."

Chase whined and nudged Sam's chest. "Please Sam...Tell my father...Maybe he can help you."

Sam looked down at Chase, and realized it was probably for the best, and nodded. "Yeah...I'll tell him...I'm sorry I waited this long." Chase pecked the corner of Sam's mouth, that got him to smile a bit and lick Chase's cheek, who gave a little giggle in reply. Sam leaned in and hugged Chase tightly, nosing his neck, and whispering in his ear. "I love you...You're so kind and loving and ready to help..."

Chase's ear twitched a bit and he smiled, rubbing his muzzle against Sam's. "I love you too, and you deserve all of my love...I had an odd feeling the day we met, but I didn't think it'd turn into something like this.

Sam thought a bit. "This. Is good right? You don't feel rushed...or pushed into this?"

Chase shook his head. "If it was, I'd have told you. I wasn't lying when I said I wanted to try, and just after an afternoon I already feel like this is what I need. I need you."

Sam's eyes misted a bit as he kissed his mates nose. "Thank you sweetie..."

Chase murred happily, and wrapped his arms around Sam's neck. "We should go get something to eat, and get showered. My dad won't be home for a few hours I'm betting."

Sam nodded and hugged Chase tightly one more time before they stepped downstairs. The two made some eggs and bacon, joined by toast and orange juice. After that they stepped into the shower together, helping each other wash and discussing how to tell Chase's dad the news. It was by the time they got out of the shower and had dried off, that John's car pulled in the driveway, both boys giving a look to each other as they ran downstairs to greet him.

Before they knew it, Chase and Sam had told him everything, to John's surprise. He had expected the news right after Chase's coming out to be about his and Sam's relationship that was so very obvious he had noted to himself a few times when they were out of the room.

He hadn't been prepared to learn that Sam's father had kicked him out no more than two weeks ago. John tried to keep his voice steady as he spoke. "Sam, where is your father now? Could you show me where you live..." Despite his attempts the steel in his voice was clear.

"Dad...What're you thinking...?" Chase asked with a soft voice, looking at John.

"Nothing, I just want to speak with this man." He replied, adverting his eyes. "This is a serious matter...He can't just leave Sam on the streets."

"Dad I know that look...If Sam tells you where his house is you'll go there and get in a fight with his dad...And that will end badly...We should go to the police, they can help us." Chase said, his voice pleading and worried.

John gave a defeated sigh, and saw reason. He placed a hand on Sam's shoulder, who had been quiet thus far. "Why didn't you go to the police in the first place...When he kicked you out..." Sam lowered his ears and looked down.

"My mindset at the time was that he was just upset, and I didn't want to get him in trouble. I waited around the house but he came out and chased me off. I was so upset the thought must've never crossed my mind...I'm still afraid of what they might do to him, but I guess we should tell the police..." Sam said, looking up at John.

John nodded, and patted him on the shoulder, and then with little pause knelt down and hugged Sam tightly, in a hug only a father was capable of. "I'm so sorry you went through that Sam..." Sam felt his eyes misting again as he hugged the older wolf back. "In the few days I've known you, I'm glad to see your father's actions and treatment didn't reflect on you. You're a wonderful young man."

Sam sniffed, and couldn't hold the tears from falling down his face as he hugged tighter to the older wolf, sobs shaking his body. Chase walked up and knelt next to Sam and moved into the hug. Sam couldn't help himself, the tears kept flowing as these two individuals, who barely knew him, one now even his lover, showed so much warmth and care towards him.

Once Sam had calmed down he slid back, eyes red as he looked the other two wolves over, he opened his mouth but couldn't think of many words at the time. "Th-thank you..." Was all he managed and John gave a little sad smile.

"C'mon. Let's get down to the station" He said softly, helping Sam up, who nodded. Chase took Sam's hand and they all got in the car.

John spoke some more during the drive. "Where have you been living, Sam...?"

"At that camping ground a few miles down, the cabin's aren't used until Winter, so I've been in one of those.." Sam explained, adding in what he told Chase, about going to school, and eating there.

"I see..." John said, imagining what it must have been like. He parked in the lot outside the station. "Well, we're here." The three exited the vehicle and walked inside, it was cool, a nice relief from the summer heat. A middle aged Panther, about John's age sat at the main desk. He eyed them carefully before speaking.

"Can I help you three?" He asked patiently.

John began to speak. "We need to speak to the Chief, it's urgent."

The panther blinked, and sat up straight. "That would be me. Chief Gale, is something wrong...?" John began to explain, beginning to end, with input from Sam. As they spoke the panther's eyes focused and slowly grew sadder, he waited until they were finished and spoke. "Gentlemen, I think you should all head back to my office..." He spoke, getting up and leading them to the room. "I have some bad news, I'm afraid."

After checking the database, and found Sam's file. "Sam Sparling, we were looking for you. Your father told us you were with your mother. We couldn't reach the cell he gave us, and you don't seem to have any other living relatives, correct?"

Sam's eyed widened and he nodded. "Yes sir that's right...but you said my mother...My mother hasn't been with us for five years. She changed her number, and is most likely as far away from us as possible. She left my father for another man, and left us both without a word..."

Gale looked through his files. "She could be anywhere, she's not in any of our records past that time." He rubbed the back of his head, clearly embarrassed and irritated. "She just vanished...The number your father gave us wasn't even in service."

Sam looked at the officer. "Sir...where is my father...how could he have given you a number, and why were you looking for me.."

John moved in. "The whole reason we came here was to explain that he kicked Sam out..."

The officer frowned and sighed. "I'm afraid your father passed away a few nights ago, under hospital care. We found him in the alley near a bar, intoxicated and beaten...We tried to call your mother with the number he gave, but now we know why. We were in the process of contacting the school, but no one answered the phones, so we left an email.

"The school has a mini break that started after school on Thursday...They go back Tuesday" John said, resting a hand on his face and sighing.

"I'm sorry for you to have found out this way, Sam..." The officer said, before he looked up to John and Chase.

"How are you two involved in this?"

"My son, Chase." John said, motioning towards his son. "Met Sam at school, we've only been living here since Wednesday. Sam has been staying with us since Thursday afternoon. Both John and Gale glanced at the two boys. Sam was looking down at the floor, while Chase tried to do something, hugging and whispering softly in comfort.

"Well...Mr?"

"Walker, sir."

"Mr. Walker, I thank you for watching the boy this long, and thank you for doing this. I'll need to call a shelter for him to stay in until I can fill out the suitable papers to-"

"No!" It was Sam. "No...please...I don't want to go to a shelter...There are the only people who have shown me any kindness in the past weeks! Please don't send me away!" He said, turning and hugging Chase tightly. John's looked at his son, cling tight and tensed, quickly looking at the officer and speaking.

"I...Could take him in sir. I'd treat him like my own flesh and blood..." He said glancing over at his son and Sam. "I had already predicted that this might happen...And I am financially able to care for two children, I'll go through all the courts, anything. Just don't pull these two apart...They need each other...Not when I'm offering open arms...You said yourself, your data says it. There are no other relatives, you've checked..."

Gale looked at the three and gave a heavy sigh. "I...I can give you custody of him, till I can bring a court together. And by policy we need to keep looking for any relatives, even though it seems he has none in contact, and/or living...But this is all I can do. It's all I have in my power to do." You'll need to get a hearing for adoption, prove to them you can take this responsibility. After that, if all seems well, they'll decide whether you're fit to adopt, Sam." John nodded and sighed out, as the officer printed out a few files, and placed them in an envelope. "These are his records in case something happens before the hearing. I'll call you when I schedule one.

They all stood up. John reached over and shook Gale's paw. "Thank you officer." Gale nodded. John smiled to Chase and Sam. "C'mon boys, let's head home."

They nodded and began to head out, Sam stopped and ran back to Chief Gale. "Sir...Is my father...buried yet?"

Gale looked at Sam. "I'll email Mr. Walker the details when they move his body to a burial home. You take care of yourself, Sam. Okay? I'll be working on getting a hearing together, and will call Mr. Walker should anything come up."

Sam looked back at John and Chase. "I'll be okay officer...I have them..." He walked back over, and the three made their way to the car. Chief Gale sat back in his chair, and gave a little sigh, before picking up the phone making calls for the hearing.

In the car, Sam thought a bit before he spoke. "John...Are you serious...you know about wanting to...adopt me." Saying the word sounded very awkward. "I'd hate to put you in a bad spot...Maybe I can go to a home and still see Chase...And you barely even know me, and..." He couldn't comprehend any of it, how after living with his father for so long, unaware such kindness existed.

John shook his head. "It doesn't matter...You're a very intelligent and kind young man. I don't want you to lose that. Like I said, I'm more than capable of supporting you and Chase. And I'd be happy to have you as part of our family."

Sam felt his face get hot as he looked at Chase. Who smiled and lay against his side, nosing his jaw. John spoke again. "I know it must be very fast for you...You just met Chase and I you. But look what you and Chase have got in just a couple days...I can't let that be torn apart.

Sam sighed and, wrapped his arms around Chase. "I don't want to lose this...I hope the hearing goes through..."

John looked at the rear view mirror and smiled. "It's going to be fine. Don't get yourself worried sick over that. Just consider yourself already part of the family" He said. He looked back to the road with a little frown. 'Me too bud...'

The three got back home, and had a simple meal consisting of some delivery. Chase and Sam spent the rest of the night, in each others arms. Passing the time with a few movies, some games, and more importantly close hugs, and gentle kisses.
