#4 of A Story For Hunter

DUN DUN DUN...!

Hunter and Tim have a wonderful evening together, despite a shitty start, however their plans for the following day get radically changed by an unexpected visitor.

A Dinner Date for Hunter

By Jenny Harlow

The van stopped outside the restaurant, Tim again walked around to the other side of the van. This time Hunter was able to carefully ease himself out from the seat. He landed, gently grabbing Tim's arm to stabilize himself. He smiled at the husky, and wrapped his arm around Tim's elbow. The two canines walked towards the door, the faint sound of Tejano music emanating from within. Tim smiled as Hunter's stomach growled. "You really are hungry, huh?" He said, gently patting the wolf's hand.

Hunter nodded, a small grin on his face. "I guess so!"

The restaurant was quiet for the most part, the only sounds being normal conversation and the occasional clink of silverware, and the background music playing. The interior was nice, black and gray carpet that was kept very clean, tables with various Mexican and South Texan images and designs on them. They walked up to the podium at the front, Tim gently easing Hunter onto the small bench. He sat down next to him, the restaurant wasn't that busy, yet no one seemed to have noticed the two canines' entrance. Hunter leaned his head against Tim. The husky looked over to see the wolf's eyes were drooping a little. "You wanna just go home?" Tim asked, wrapping his arm around the wolf.

"No, we're here already. It shouldn't be too much longer." The wolf said, nuzzling his head into Tim's chest.

Hunter was right, within five minutes a hostess appeared at the podium. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry! I didn't see you guys come in. Just the two of you?" She asked, grabbing the menus out from the podium.

"I know this is a weird question, but can I have a kids' menu please?" Hunter asked, as Tim turned to help him up.

"Sure thing, if you'll follow me your table's right this way." She beamed, walking up the small ramp. Tim put an arm around Hunter's waist holding him securely as they followed. Hunter leaned into the supporting hug, quite happily. They were taken to a comfortable booth just a little further off of the top of the ramp. Tim let Hunter sit down first, before sitting across from him. The wolf slid the adult menu towards Tim, before flipping the kids menu out and reading off of it. The smaller portions being more Hunter's size. He quickly selected his dinner, then started coloring on the menu. Tim smiled and shook his head at the wolf. Hunter got a lot of joy out of simple little things. The waitress returned, "Can I offer you two something to drink?" The young otter said, shifting from her heels to her toes.

"Um, I'd like a lemonade please." Hunter said, looking up from his coloring,

"Yes ma'am." The otter said turning to Tim "And for you-"

"It's sir actually." Hunter said, placing his head on his folded arms.

"Oh, I'm sorry sir." She said putting her hand on the table by him. "And for you sir?" She asked, turning back to Tim.

"I'll take an iced-tea please, no sugar for me." Tim handed the faux-leather bound menu Hunter hadn't used back to her.

"Have you decided on your meal yet?" She said, looking from one canine to the other.

"I might need some more time. If you're ready Hunter you can go ahead and order." The husky said, placing his hand on his partner's elbow.

"Yeah, I'd like the junior tacos please. I'd like the ranch style beans instead of the refried." Hunter sat up again, smiling as he went back to his coloring.

"Okay, I'll go ahead and get your order started and be right back with your drinks." The waitress left the table, still writing in her order book.

Hunter reached his menu out, indicating the Dots and Boxes game. He passed Tim a crayon as he made the first move. Tim smiled as he took his turn. The two got so involved that they barely noticed when the waitress returned and set their drinks on the table. She cleared her throat, snapping the dog back to attention as she sat the chips and salsa in front of them. "Um, I'd like the three amigos, chili con queso on all of them please." The husky said with an embarrassed smile. Tim looked down, frowning. While he had turned away, Hunter had just won the game. The wolf sat across from him with his tongue stuck out. Tim watched as the waitress left, before turning back to the wolf. "You are, at some point in the VERY near future, going to rue this day. Savor your victory." Tim said with a menacing squint. Hunter's immediate response was to peck the husky on the lips as he leaned in closer to him. Tim made a disgusted face, and started wiping his lips off on his sleeve. Hunter giggled, resting his head on the table again, staring up at his partner with a small grin on his face. He reached across the table and took the husky's hand.

Food arrived a little while later. Hunter sat up so that he wasn't obstructing the waitress's path. She set the two plates down, and took Hunter's cup for a refill. Hunter licked his lips as he looked at the plate in front of him. It contained: six baby tacos, a cup of sour cream, and two other small cups containing rice and beans. He looked over at Tim who was already cutting into his enchiladas. The two ate in companionable silence, both exhausted and hungry. Hunter had almost entirely cleared the small plate, much to both of their satisfaction. The husky paid the check and the two canines rose from the table. It wasn't a long ride home, but by the time the van pulled into the driveway of their home, Hunter was already sound asleep. With a small giggle, the husky got out of the car and moved to the other side. He carefully undid the wolf's belt and lifted the sleeping Hunter into his arms. Hunter didn't weigh that much compared to Tim, and the husky was able to easily carry him to bed. Hunter woke up as he hit the soft bed, he looked around confusedly for a moment before stretching and yawning. The dog pecked his mate on the cheek, and rubbed just beneath his shirt. The two undressed, Hunter taking his binder off and handing it to the still standing husky. Tim put it on the dresser then crawled into the blankets next to the wolf. He pulled a book out, laying on his side as he read. He smiled when he felt Hunter's arms sneak their way around his chest, the wolf burying his head in his shoulders. "Goodnight my puppy." Hunter said, planting a soft kiss on the back of Tim's neck.

"Goodnight babe." Tim reached his free hand down and took one of Hunter's, stroking his fingers idly with his thumb. Just as he was about to turn off the light, his phone beeped. He sighed as he reached for it. He read through the email he had just received, a small smile spreading across his face. His schedule for the next four weeks had just come in, he had been given tomorrow and Hunter's birthday off. The first thing the husky did was turn his alarm off, smiling contentedly.

Tim awoke before Hunter's alarm went off, the wolf still held his arms around the dog's chest. He could feel Hunter's breath gently tickling his back. The husky closed his eyes again. He rolled over, careful not to wake his partner up. He wrapped his own arms around Hunter's small frame, enjoying the pleasant warmth the wolf emitted. He placed his chin on the top of Hunter's head, nuzzling slightly. The two canines lay content in the predawn hours. Hunter's night terrors had not chosen to make an appearance tonight. It was about an hour before Hunter's alarm sounded, causing faint music to spill into the room which grew in volume. Tim reached over and turned the alarm off. As he did so, he felt the wolf start to stir. With a long sigh, Hunter stretched, he flinched momentarily as his head touched his dog's chin, but then giggled as he nuzzled it between his ears. His purple eyes opened, bright and sparkling, even under the heavy lids. "Good morning doggo."

"Good morning my wolf."

Hunter blinked for a second, as he rolled over, shaking sensation back into his left arm. "Shouldn't you be getting ready for work?"

"Nope, I've got the day off." The husky said with a smile, he reached down to rub the wolf's stomach. Hunter made a small yelp as Tim reached just under his breast. "What is it babe? What's wrong?"

"Sorry, it's just really tender there for some reason." Hunter reached over, shielding his eyes as he turned his lamp on.

"Lay down for me really quickly." With a raised eyebrow, Hunter obeyed. Tim gently probed the area, patting Hunter with his free hand whenever the wolf would start. "Well, it's not the worst news, but it isn't the best either. You've got a lot of swelling around these bottom two ribs on your right side. There's a possibility you've bruised them, other than missing gym today, pain meds and ice should help fix that."

"What caused it?" Hunter said, rubbing his eyes as he sat back up, trying to think about everything he'd done recently.

"It's likely that your binder's just too tight. We probably have to get you a slightly larger one, you've put some weight on since we bought that one." Tim picked the garment up, and examined it, "Try wearing something baggier today, it should help cover up anything you don't want revealed, okay?" He kissed the wolf gently on the navel, which caused Hunter to giggle. "Take your sugar, and I'll get you some breakfast started okay?" Tim said with a grin, he rubbed Hunter's belly lovingly.

The wolf nodded and leaned up to peck his partner on the cheek. "You spoil me sir." Hunter said with a giggle. "I just want an egg or two, hard-boiled please. Maybe some toast and juice?" The wolf said, as he reached into his nightstand.

"You got it, two eggs a la hard-boil and toast coming right up." The husky giggled as he walked into the kitchen.

"Since I got today off. Figured I'd take you to class and then we'd spend a nice day together curled up on the couch watching movies on the big TV."

Hunter smiled at the idea, between his school and the husky's work the two hadn't had a large amount of intimate time. Excited, Hunter started to get out of bed, checking his leg for any wobble. He stood, slowly, allowing himself enough time to stabilize. He started to walk out into the kitchen and frowned after his first step. "Well, I need a shower." He said to himself, feeling an unpleasantly familiar sensation in his boxers. He continued carefully into the kitchen, Tim sat on one of the barstools, browsing Facebook on his phone. Hunter slid up behind him and gently wrapped him in a hug. "I'm gonna take a shower, I promise I won't be long." Hunter said as he nuzzled the husky's muscular back. He let his arm gently trace the curve of the dog's shoulders as he walked away. Tim turned him a large grin as he walked into the bathroom.

"You don't need to rush, the water's not even boiling yet. Take your time, you've probably got around twenty or so minutes."

Hunter made a thumbs-up around the door, then shut it behind him. The husky stood up, checking the pot again, it had just barely been put on and wasn't quite boiling yet. He set the lid back on the pot, and walked back into the bedroom. Under the partially lowered blankets, he saw the small stains on the covers. He quietly and quickly changed them, not wanting to cause Hunter any distress, nor have him feel guilty for making a mess he couldn't control. He tossed the dirty sheets into the hamper in the closet. He leaned against the bathroom door, Hunter was singing softly to himself in the shower. The husky giggled slightly, he kissed his fingers and tapped them to the closed door. He put Hunter's eggs on and set the timer before curling up under his blanket on the couch. He let his eyes droop for a moment. "Babe?" Hunter's voice called.

"I'm on the couch." Tim called. The wolf walked around the corner, he was wrapped from knees to shoulders in his large towel. He sat down on the couch, pulling his blanket out and swapping it for the towel. He lay down on his side of the couch, a content smile on his face. He reached out from under the covers and turned the TV on, setting it for Cartoon Network. Tim leaned over and set his head in the wolf's lap, He let out a small sigh as his eyes closed for a few minutes. He woke up to the soft beeping of the kitchen timer, he rubbed his eyes and looked up at the wolf. Hunter looked towards the kitchen and then back down at the dog on his lap. "Sounds like your eggs are ready." The husky sat up and stretched for a second. He finally peeled himself off the couch. He set the eggs in the sink, emptied the water off, and refilled the pan with cool water as he shook them up a bit. He set the eggs in a small bowl, and left them in the microwave as he put the toast down for his mate. When all was said and done, he brought the small tray out to the wolf. It contained five hardboiled eggs, two for Hunter and three for Tim, and four pieces of wheat toast to split, with two glasses of orange juice.

Hunter licked his lips as they tray was set on the table. He leaned over and kissed the husky, rubbing his shoulder as thanks. Hunter took one of the peeled eggs, it was still hot to the touch, though not scalding. He shook a little bit of pepper into the bowl, and rolled both eggs in it. He and Tim ate in quiet, then held hands and leaned back on the couch for a moment after they'd finished. It wasn't a particularly special morning, but it was a good one none the less. "I've got to get dressed," Hunter said, rising from the couch. He held the blanket around himself as he moved towards the bedroom.

"I should too if I'm gonna take you." The husky followed his mate, similarly letting the blanket hang around him like a cape. They dressed relatively quickly, Tim giving Hunter one of his larger shirts to wear, since the wolf couldn't bind today. "Hey, email your Gym coach, let him know you're not coming in today." Tim said as they walked out to the van.

"I will before my math class starts." Hunter didn't like texting while moving, it made him motion sick.

"Okay, just don't forget." Tim helped Hunter up into the van. "You need your cane?"

"Not today, I think. My leg's feeling better right now." Tim shut the door and walked around to the other side of the car. As the van rolled, Hunter turned on the stereo and put one of his CDs into the player. He set it to a particular track and leaned back in the seat. He began to sing along with the track as the lyrics started. Tim always liked it when Hunter sang, though it wasn't something he did often, despite having a really good voice. He mostly sang if Tim was playing his guitar. At present he was singing Cradled in Love, by Poets of the Fall. The husky enjoyed the drive, even though after that track the wolf fell asleep. It was only about a half hour drive, but the wolf wasn't quite awake yet. At the final stoplight, Tim reached over and stroked the wolf's ears. Hunter woke up with a quiet snort, looking out the window to see where they were. "We're almost there," Tim said idly. He was a little sad that the wolf was going to class today.

"That's good," Hunter said, still looking out the window. His tail swished idly around his leg as he watched other students move around on the campus. Tim stopped on the street just outside the small building where Hunter's math class was.

"So I should be back to pick you up around noon?"

"Yeah, see you later." Hunter turned to unbuckle his seatbelt. Tim gently took his chin and leaned over to kiss the wolf. Hunter returned it happily. "I love you." Hunter said as he hopped out of the van.

"Love you too." Tim said, he sat for a moment to watch Hunter get into the building before driving off.

Hunter took a second to sit on a bench and catch his breath after walking through the doors. He looked up the narrow, steep flight of stairs to his class and sighed. There was an elevator, but it was on the opposite side of the building. He stood up, took a deep breath, and started his slow climb up the stairs. He reached the top, thanking every higher power that his class was the first one next to the stairs. He walked to the front of the classroom, and collapsed in the chair. He pulled his notebook out and laid it on the table, followed by his heavy math book. He leaned his head down on his arms. The professor hadn't arrived yet, and he wasn't going to waste the chance to relax a little longer. Bridget walked in and sat next to him, rubbing his back. "Hey man, you tired?" She giggled slightly, Hunter just cast a sideways glance in her direction. He lifted his head slightly and stuck his tongue out. The ocelot just laughed and pulled him into a half hug. She noticed that he was shivering slightly, and smiled, she pulled a jacket out of her large bag, and passed it to the wolf. He pulled it on gratefully. "You can hang on to that if you need it." She said with a grin. The professor walked in not long after and class started.

As the class finished, Hunter closed his books, and tucked them into his backpack. He looked down at the small, pink jacket he'd borrowed, and sighed slightly. He and Bridget had roughly the same class schedule, and the two walked across the campus towards Jim's. Hunter walked slowly, enjoying the surprisingly cool spring morning. Bridget kept pace with him, though her stride was much longer. They walked into the black and white checkered building, paid the fee at the entrance, and walked to different food lines. Eventually, the two sat down together. Bridget had acquired a mimus-fried steak, Hunter had opted for a small salad with hard-boiled egg, bacon, and croutons on top. Hunter pulled his math book out on the table, and the blue workbook they had been assigned. "You need me to drive you home today?" Bridget said, taking a bite out of a large roll.

"No actually, Tim's able to do it. Besides, I won't be going to gym today." Hunter said with a small frown.

"What's wrong?" Bridget asked, cocking her head slightly.

"My uh..." Hunter looked around nervously, he was certain no one would overhear but he didn't want to risk it. "Undergarments have caused some bruising around my ribs." He looked down at Tim's shirt which draped off of his body slightly.

"Oh," Bridget said with a shrug, "Hope you feel better soon."

The ocelot stood and retrieved a banana split for them to share. She knew Hunter wouldn't eat one by himself, nor could she at the moment. After their ice cream treat, Hunter waved as he walked back off towards the psych building for his Intro to Psychology class. His stomach was nice and full, and the class was on the ground floor, not far in from the door. There were maybe two other people in the room. He took out a small pack of scantrons and set it on desk, the put his headphones on and leaned on the table until the rest of the class started shuffling in. He finished his test relatively quickly, turned it in and walked to the library to await Tim's arrival. He sent the wolf a text, letting him know he finished early. He checked out a random book, and sat reading in one of the comfy armchairs towards the back of the building. His phone buzzed a while later, and he headed outside. As he hopped into the white van, Tim passed him a box. "Happy birthday." The husky said, a large smile on his face. "I wouldn't actually recommend opening that until you get home though... Got a message from the post office, for some reason they wanted me to come pick it up." He said with a shrug.

Hunter was fairly animated on the way home, Tim listened happily as Hunter rambled on about today's test, his math homework, and his lunch with Bridget. They got to the house, Hunter dashed through the door, and started ripping the box open. He extracted the product he'd asked for a little embarrassedly. Yet he looked it over intently. "This looks like it should be good." He said, passing the object to Tim. There was more in the box, he dug through the packing until he pulled out a bottle of lube, followed by another toy-like object. "What's this?" Hunter asked, rotating it around.

"Umm. It's called a 3-in-1... At least that's what James called it. Basically it's um... a packer..." Tim said, looking down at the floor. "I figured you might like it, it'll at least allow you to use a urinal occasionally." The husky said, he reached over and carefully took the wolf's small hand. "You're not upset are you?"

"No of course not! That's so sweet!" Hunter hugged his dog, holding him tightly. "Thank you."

"No problem, and we've still got Sunday to look forward to." Tim stroked his mate's hair as the wolf lay on his lap, setting his gifts down on the table. It was a nice quiet moment. Hunter's eyes started to close again as his mate gently stroked his hair and ears. His tail slowly swished as he relaxed. It wasn't long until the wolf was completely out of it again. Tim gently took his glasses off and set them aside. He kissed his index and middle fingers and placed them on the tip of the wolf's nose. The husky wasn't tired himself, so he carefully laid a blanket on the wolf, and turned the TV on low. Hunter napped quietly for about an hour, then he started to whine and whimper occasionally in his sleep. Tim rubbed the wolf's back, making soft shushing noises. Eventually the wolf calmed again, a small smile returning to his face. Tim wrapped his arm around Hunter, underneath the blanket. Hunter let out a heavy sigh and rolled over. Tim occasionally glanced down at him concernedly, rubbing the wolf's tummy to comfort him as he slept. Tim's stomach growled, though he didn't want to disturb the sleeping wolf, especially since he would still occasionally whimper in his sleep. At about five thirty, Hunter finally woke up. He took a long breath in, and let it out slowly as he opened his eyes. Tim looked down at him with a small smile on his face. "Hey babe, you okay? Sounded like you were having some rough dreams."

"Yeah, it was that same dream again... The shadow coming out of the TV." Hunter said, he moved up a little, resting his head on the husky's shoulder. Tim moved his right leg to get the circulation and sensation back into it again. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to keep you still this long." The wolf said, nuzzling his cheek into his mate.

"It's okay, you needed me more than I needed food." Tim laughed slightly, "Though now that you're awake... I'm starving." Hunter rubbed his stomach pensively, and turned his head towards Tim. "You hungry too?" Tim kissed the top of Hunter's head. "Very well, I'll go reheat some leftovers, that'll be nice and quick." The husky stood and stretched, Hunter leaned back a little, a small smile on his face. He always liked it when Tim stretched in front of him. He hugged his dog from behind and held him close for a second. As he let him go, the husky stripped down to his boxers, something he hadn't had a chance to do before the wolf fell asleep on him. Hunter too made himself more comfortable, Tim mumbled as he picked his clothes up from the floor.

"You know you love me." The wolf called teasingly.

"Yeah, I guess." The husky peeked his head around the corner and stuck his tongue out. Hunter switched the channel off of court TV to something a bit more interesting to him. He settled on the movie channel, which was currently running Revenge of the Nerds. He sat happily, holding his knees to himself as he watched the movie. He heard Tim singing and whistling to himself in the kitchen. Underneath his happiness however, he was secretly relieved that his world was still in its proper order. He jumped when the doorbell shook him from his thoughts. "I've got it!" The husky said. Hunter lay back on the couch.

Tim opened the door slightly, he peeked around the corner before opening it completely. "Can I help you ma'am?" The dog said. In front of him stood a young female wolf, she was slightly taller than Hunter, with brown fur and long curled brown hair, though it was a slightly lighter color than her fur. What really caught Tim was her eyes. One was light blue, similar to his own, the other was purple. Several of these things combine to form an eerie sense of familiarity.

"Is this Tim Vincetti's house?" The wolf said, her voice was quiet, almost afraid sounding. Again the familiarity made his stomach clench.

"Yes it is." Tim said, he put his hand on his chest, "I'm Tim Vincetti."

"Is there an H. Grayson living here too?" Her voice sounded a little more positive. She had a timid, hopeful smile on her face.

"Yes there is... Who's asking?"

"Well I-" She stopped mid word, Hunter had gotten curious and had stood in the living room. "Hayley!" The wolf cried, Tim was momentarily surprised when she slipped past him. She nearly tackled Hunter, wrapping him in a tight hug. Hunter's eyes were wide, and his breathing was quick and ragged. His ears were pinned back. Tim's suspicions were confirmed seeing the two so close together. The resemblance between the siblings was strong. "Hayley I'm so glad to have found you." She cried onto his shoulder.

"It's Hunter..." Hunter said, his tone was neutral though uncomfortable. "My name is Hunter."

"Oh... I'm sorry. It's just that the last time I saw you, you were..."

"Being kicked out by mom and dad." Hunter said, now sounding more hurt. "What do you want from me Jackie?" Hunter gently pushed her arms to the side, he carefully moved closer to Tim. The husky put his arm around him.

"I just wanted to see my little sis... brother again." The brown wolf said, drawing a circle on the ground with her foot.

"You never seemed to care about me before. I lost count of the times I ended up in the ER because of you." Hunter said quietly.

"I'm sorry." Jackie said, she tried to step closer, but a glance from Tim caused her to freeze. "I really am... I didn't... There were things that..." Jackie fell to her knees, her head pointed towards the floor. "Hay... Hunter, I know how you feel now. How you've always felt around Mom and Dad." She sat back, her tail touching her ankles, she wrapped her arms around her stomach as though she were going to be sick. "I've been looking for you for over two months, I've been staying at a friend's house using every resource possible to track you down."

"You've been staying at a friend's house, just to find me?" Hunter said skeptically.

"No..." Jackie looked up, her eyes meeting her sibling's. She saw tears, hurt and rage shining in those purple eyes. "The truth of that is Mom and Dad caught me doing something I wasn't supposed to do..." Hunter's eyebrows raised slightly. "Well, rather after the fact they caught me...They day they kicked me out, I thought I had locked my door the night before, I'd told them my friend would be staying over late so that we could study. Mom came in with the laundry and..." Hunter knelt in front of her.

Jackie was shaking and crying so hard that the last part of her sentence was barely audible. Hunter's expression was wide and confused. His sister gently gripped his arm, and leaned into his chest. Tim watched as Hunter mentally processed the information he'd just received. He kissed his sister on top of the head, and carefully stood up. He walked over to the husky and wrapped his arms around him. "Is it okay if Jackie stays tonight with us? We've got some things to discuss." Hunter said quietly.

"Hunter, sweetie, it's your home too. If you want her to stay, she can stay, if you want her to leave, she'll be leaving." Tim said, returning the hug. He bent down and met the wolf's muzzle as it was coming up.

Hunter walked back over, and gently helped his sister back to her feet. "Tim just fixed lunch," he said awkwardly, "Are you hungry?" Jackie nodded weakly, Hunter sat her on the couch then went with Tim to get lunch together. The wolf spoke quietly to his mate as he got plates carefully out of the dishwasher. "My sister just... came out to me..." He said confusedly. "I don't know how to react to that, in a way it would explain why she acted so harshly to me." He turned and met Tim's eyes, "It doesn't forgive it, but at least now I feel I understand it."

The husky pulled Hunter to him once more, resting his chin on the wolf's head. "I'm concerned about you getting your feelings hurt again. Remember, I'm here with you."

The two canines walked back into the living room, Tim carried the tray in front of him, He set it on the table, while awkwardly moving the other two items out of view. Hunter sat on his preferred side, and Tim on his, leaving Jackie in the middle. She smiled shyly at Tim as he handed her a plate of the mimus and rice. Hunter didn't know what to make of his day so far, yet in the back of his mind, he kept thinking about the shadow stepping out of the TV and the threats it had made.
