Amari was combing her hair at the moment. She never so much cared for how much it looked, although she made absolute sure to tame it. She pretty much never cared a lot - she kind of liked Peter's hair better, and Peter was male anyway. In spite of all the 'my hair' jokes they made together from a certain Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged series, that wasn't the only thing they had in common with one another.

She thought what would be a good set of clothing for their date night. Sure there was the tee shirt that had all the dinosaurs on it, but she didn't think that would have been appropriate. Neither of them really cared about formal wear at all - another of their similarities. But at the same time, she didn't want to look extremely uncouth. They weren't going out to some kind of fancy shmancy high dining place, they were just going to a place nearby the movies.

Even in spite of that, she just put on a shirt she bought from the men's department. Who cared anyway - the men's department always had the better clothing in her opinion. (At least she didn't wear pink. Made her want to puke.) She pondered over her pants and just slipped on a pair of khakis. Then again, she had to think - she had been going out with Peter for awhile now, why really care? She made sure to look at the clock nearby - fortunately not that really scary clock in Peter's place - to ensure she was on time. She wasn't fond of the time she was late and Peter made the joke about how she was operating on sloth time. (And. Speaking. With. A. Pause. Between. Every. Word.)

Meanwhile over at Peter's house, he was stepping out of the shower, having spent the last ten minutes in there wanting to ensure that he was as clean as possible. Though some of the time he had spent in there was because he was idly singing to himself. The young man threw a towel around himself, drying himself off as he approached the bathroom sink, grabbing a brush to lather his face with shaving cream before he ran the razor over it. He made it a habit of shaving every day, due to how quickly the hair grew there. He didn't like to leave it unchecked, for fears that it'd end up growing to the point of giving him a neckbeard that was usually sported by people who made awkward video game vlogs on Youtube, and just the thought of looking like that was enough to send a shiver down his spine.

Once he had dried himself off, he headed into his bedroom, browsing through his clothing. He knew he was going out on a date, but at the same time he didn't want to dress up in anything too formal - he didn't want Amari to think that he was trying too hard to impress her, after all.

Fortunately he just had the right kind of clothing to at least look nice - but not uncouth. He did consider the Angry Birds shirt, but that probably wasn't going to work too too well. Soon, he heard the noise from the other side of the house - the damn creepy cuckoo clock of doom. That thing served no purpose other than to be creepy. (He did wish he could replace it with an Angry Birds clock)

That did mean that it was around the time where she would show up. She did the driving - he was learning how to drive after all, but she was far more comfortable with it. (After all she did it longer than he did.) He made his way downstairs and waited, making sure to check his phone. There was the text message right there from her.

"BBTS on my way."

He quickly responded with a text message of his own.

"You made sure to take a left on Cu road this time right"

Silence for a couple minutes, then his mobile made the chocobo noise again. He checked the message and facepalmed.

"Dammit."

That was going to get him about fifteen minutes to half an hour. No matter how many times she got lost or delayed due to that cursed road, she would get herself late. Peter looked at his mobile again and thought maybe he could kill some time by playing some Angry Birds, except the last time he did, it crashed. (Why did those freemium games always play like this anyway?)

"Gah, come on..." He muttered to himself, launching it again. Most freemium games played better than others, and given this was more or less a major one, it was always the most frustrating when it just crashed out of the blue. Better that than his computer, because at least if an app crashed, it just took around thirty seconds to restart it, whereas the computer would take around ten times as much. He watched an advert to get another in-game life to compensate for the one lost by the crash, and he was thankful that most of them were either short or mutable. At the very least, he was more tolerable of some of the adverts supplied by mobile games than on the TV - when he was watching one of his programs earlier, he nearly threw his remote through the screen when a bingo advert with its obnoxious 'Gala-la-la' singing played.

Then came the doorbell. She actually came earlier this time than it normally took when she made the wrong turn. Cool. He smiled and slipped the phone in his pocket, then quickly made his way to the door. When he opened it, instead of Amari was... Nobody. That was strange, Peter thought. Nobody around here played ding dong ditch. That was, however, when he noticed that there was something on the doorknob. Some kind of a flier advertising service like roofing or lawn care? He pulled it out and went inside to read it.

Instead of some kind of real life spam, it was something else entirely. Something that seemed to be written in some kind of weird Anglo-Saxon rune. He simply shrugged and went to put the note in the trash, feeling some kind of weird shiver down his spine after having done so. Someone must have been playing a prank. He figured that if he had translated it somehow, it would say something along the lines of "Be sure to drink your Ovaltine" or "I'm watching you".

Not too long after that there was a doorbell ring. He had hoped this wasn't some kind of followup spam service to that thing. Sure enough, there was Amari once he opened the door. He immediately brought her into a hug, causing some kind of a static shock.

"Ow, what was that?" Amari asked.

"I don't know," Peter responded, "It's not dry here."

"Static. Well, are you ready?" She asked.

"Am I?" Peter said eagerly.

With that, they made their way to the cinema to see Zootropolis again.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Man, I could easily watch that again and again and not get tired of it!" Peter chuckled as they left the cinema, looking at Amari as he held her close.
"I can tell. You always get a bit emotional at -that- scene, don't ya?" She smirked.
"Well yeah, but it kinda hits a bit too close to home for me..." He blushed, eyes darting around nervously.
"Hey, I can imagine. It's not like I'm making fun of you or anything." She placed a soft peck on his cheek, causing him to blush a little more, but less from embarrassment and more from surprise. His face looked red enough that you could roast marshmallows close to it.
She giggled at that, making her way back to the car.
"You know, I do sorta wish that there were reptiles in there." She said out of nowhere.
"Dragons would have been nice too."
"Oh you and dragons." Amari responded, "Say, where do you wanna go for dinner?"
"Anywhere as long as you promise not to chant 'Dinner' over and over again like in that video game."
"I only did that once." Amari responded, unlocking it, "What about a pub of some kind?"
"Could be an idea. I've heard that a real fantasy-style place opened up not far from where I live, been thinking about popping in to check it out but with how busy I've been recently I haven't been able to do so. Plus there was that unfortunate sickness..." He chuckled nervously.
"At least you recovered from it quickly. It could have been MUCH worse, too!"
"Don't remind me, I felt like hell!" He laughed, getting into the car's driver's seat.
She decided to let Peter drive - after all, he is the one who knew where it was. Peter fortunately was able to drive, he just didn't always do it. He started to twist and turn through the city, driving around some roads. This didn't seem too too familiar.
"Well, here we are." Peter said, starting to circle the lot for a parking place.
"...Why is there a pole around here?" Amari asked.
"Oh, that's just to tie up your horses. It goes along with the theme, doesn't it?"
"Hm, seems like a waste of space, the parking lot is small enough as is." She responded.
"Well it IS a new place, maybe if business picks up they'll expand upon it!" Peter found a place to park soon after, pulling into a neat spot close to the entrance for it. After helping Amari out of her seat and locking the car, they made a beeline for the entrance.
"So if this is meant to be a fantasy-style place, I wonder what we're gonna expect?"
"I'm gonna guess animals, monsters..." Peter started, opening the door. "It's all fantasy, so it only makes sense that they'll have those kinds...of..things..." His words trailed to a stop when he had a look inside. "Oh my Gaaaaawwww...."
"What, what is it?" Amari chimed in, peeking her head into the doorframe. The place was full of fantasy elements, all right - mystical lighting, castle and forest-like decor, lots of mystical charm. The patrons, on the other hand, were literal animals. There was a mix of wolves, werewolves, demons, dragons, gryphons... everything that would fit right at home in a fantasy novel. One of the demons limped over to a chair, sporting some injuries, bruise marks around the neck, and a broken horn. "Peter, what the hell is this place?"
"I... I think I need a moment to process that answer..." He gulped, looking over at the bar. A tall, burly looking manticore was serving drinks, and a dragon appeared to be working the grill. Well, less working the grill and more flash frying the food in a matter of seconds.
"...Should we even be here?" Amari whispered.
"I-It wasn't quite like this before." Peter said.
"You've been here before?"
"...Well I knew about this place," Peter said.
"Well do we seat ourselves?"
"I'm guessing so." He nodded to her. He scanned around to find an empty table, finding one close to the bar. As the two of them took a seat, they noticed a figure moving from behind the bar to greet them.
"Hello there! It's rare that we get human guests in this place!" The female raven smiled to Peter and Amari. "Still we treat humans as equals here, just stay away from some of the rougher types."
"Thanks, I'll keep that in mind, miss...?"
"Shade's the name!" She chirped.
"Well alright miss Shade." Amari said. She seemed friendly at least. That was a good thing - that manticore really did look mean at the bar. That buff and light-grey gryphon looking guy didn't look very nice either, but at least he was keeping to himself.
Shade passed them the menus. For some reason, she seemed to be quite expressive physically despite having a nice hard beak. Amari browsed the menu items meanwhile, looking up at Peter.
"Well, what looks good?" She asked.
"Depends on what your tastes are. We've got a host of foods to sate even the pickiest of carnivores and herbivores." She giggled.
"Hrm..." Peter looked through the menus, taking occasional glances to see another gryphon sitting opposite the light grey one, only black with red highlights. "I'm awfully tempted by the BBQ pork ribs."
"Oh you'll LOVE those, we get fresh meat in every day so they're always top quality!" She responded.
"I've always preferred beef myself. I think pork is a bit messy." Amari mentioned, "Hm, do you know why there is a 'percentage lean' there? Isn't that for the supermarket?"
"Some people prefer more fat in their beef, and others prefer lean. We stock both." Shade said, "We make these things to order."
"Sure, I think I will get the roast beef then," Amari responded with a smile.
"Both are excellent choices." She smiled, taking the menus from them. "I'll take it you'll want some drinks as well?"
"Yeah, we'll both have a Pepsi each." Peter responded.
"Got ya. Your meals won't take too long to cook and prepare, so why not take in the scenery or the ambience whilst you wait?" Shade suggested. "Don't worry if any of them get out of hand, we've got a zero-tolerence policy here, as you can tell by that guy." She pointed to the battered demon.
Amari looked to the battered demon. He definitely looked like he had seen better days. It seemed a little weird like someone might have come back after getting beaten up. She almost would have said that looked the most human - before some rather buff looking person with green skin walked by. Strange, she couldn't make out his face.
"Interesting," Peter said, looking at the figure walking past Shade. "I guess this is one of the most diverse places I've ever seen in my life. Move over Overwatch or Codename STEAM."
"Yeah, and Codename STEAM had a tin man and a walking lion." Amari said.
They actually sat in a bit of an awkward silence for a couple moments. At least, that was until Amari spotted someone away from them who seemed to be like some kind of walking ostrich - if ostriches were yellow, had human top-halves, and had some purple feathers next to them. Strange, why so many avians. He looked away as soon as he noticed the humans looking at him, then turned to some kind of other person - someone whose shape she couldn't figure out because there was a red looking person in VERY loud clothing in the way. (Sheesh, how did she not spot anyone like that before?)
Wait, was that bird smiling or... laughing or something? She looked towards Peter, who seemed to be a bit distracted at a different sight. Someone who looked to be an anthropomorphic deer of some kind, yet his entire body from his antlers to his hooves looked to be made of wood. He almost wanted to call it some kind of 'faun', or a 'treant' - traunt? Just as sudden as he looked at the treant-deer figure, the figure seemed to vanish as if he was never there. No shed leaves or twigs or anything. Wait, was there someone else like a minotaur around, too? At least, not the kind of minotaur who just had the head and legs of a bull. Someone darker and greyer. Just as soon as Peter spotted the bull, HE vanished too.
"We aren't being stared at, are we?"
"I think we're attracting some stares. I mean we are the only two humans here, after all."
"I wouldn't worry about it." The yellow ostrich creature chimed in from beside Peter, making him nearly jump out of his skin. "This place is like a safe haven for beasts of varying kinds, so a lot of times they worry that the human clientele might freak out."
"Yikes, you've got to warn me if you're gonna do that!" Peter gasped loudly. "Huh... you know, you look kind of familiar. Like I've seen you before." He tilted his head.
"I'm a Chocobo, so you've probably seen me if you've played any Final Fantasy game. Well not me me, but me as in standard ones. In my case, I'm a Chocobotaur named Amatsukaze, or Amatsu for short. Sorry if I startled you, anyway." He extended his hand to Peters. The human extended his too, almost regretting it when he felt how strong the avian's grip was.
"Gah... good grip..." He winced, eyes watering.
"It's nothing special, but it helps when it comes to wielding a sword. If you want a death grip, try shaking hands with Eagle, another of our regular guests here!" Amatsu punctuated the statement with a cute kweh.
"Eagle? Oh, do they guard islands from stereotyped pigs?" Amari asked
"No." Amatsu looked a little confused at that, "He has two thumbs though - that is one thick death grip." He reached out to shake Amari's hand - which was presumably met with a comical "GAGH" as he nearly crushed her hand within his own talons.
"Oh, sorry."
"And you say that when I had ordered pork ribs?" Peter asked.
Amatsukaze backed when he spotted the server returning - none other than Shade. If he was capable of smiling, he would have had a wide sergal grin at the soon to be-ex humans.
"Here you go." Shade said, passing the food out.
"Mmmm, those do look good!" Peter started drooling when he saw the large plate of ribs placed down before him. "And they smell good, too! What kind of BBQ sauce do you use on them?"
"We usually use a mix of smoky and spicy. It helps give the taste a bit of a kick!" Shade responded.
"And this should probably have some great flavour..."
"Of course," Shade said, "Bon 'apetit." She even said it in the most fake french accent ever, then walking off.
"You know, I almost wish I got that, but roast beef is good enough." Amari said.
With that, she got right on into the food - it tasted quite good. Meanwhile, Shade smiled mentally. She knew what was going to happen this time. She glanced at the manticore.
"Goodness, you practically pigged out on that." Amari said to her boyfriend.
"What, they were that good." Peter responded, "You practically ate like a dinosaur anyway."
"D-Did not." Amari said.
Shade couldn't help but giggle internally at those comments. If they only knew...
"Oh come on, it's nothing to be ashamed of!" Peter said light heartedly. "It just means you've got a healthy appetite!"
"I know, I know, but saying I ate like a dinosaur is a bit of a broad statement, don't you think?" She responded defensively.
"Hey, you weren't messy, you just kind of chomped it down." Peter said as his stomach growled loudly. Wait a moment, he just ate, didn't he? He glanced down at his frontside, seeing his stomach suddenly swelling against the table. Wait a moment, he wasn't that fat...
"Peter, are you okay?" Amari asked.
"...Yes, why?" Peter looked over to her. "...Wait, aren't you?"
"Why?"
"Well," Peter said, "Your forehead seems a little pale."
All of a sudden Peter felt his left eye screwing shut involuntarily. He opened it back up again, feeling around the orbital lobes, and his nose.
"Peter, what happened to your eye?" Amari asked.
"My eye?" Peter asked, feeling over something smooth, "Amari, take a look at your nails!"
Amari looked down at her nails. She gasped upon noticing that her skin had turned almost entirely black. Her nails looked almost as if there was nail polish on it. Yet she knew she didn't put any nail polish on. She saw her nails thickening as well. Almost too much to be normal. She kept them short, yet they were growing to a thicker point. And they turned a scarlet. When she was done staring at her own fingers, she felt a shifting in her shoes, her toes involuntarily flexing against her foot. When she spread them out, they felt even more and more cramped in there.
Peter meanwhile felt his own toes curling up involuntarily, cramping even more and more within his shoes. His socks were utterly destroyed by the lengthening of it - and even more with how it started bulking up more and more. Almost too much for him to be of any use. He finally knelt down and yanked his shoes off, already starting to constrain from his own feet. As soon as he unleashed them, he felt a bigger wave of relief as the circulation returned.
However, he gasped when he saw what was left of his feet. He didn't have any toes anymore - hooves. He tried to wiggle his phantom toes, yet nothing responded. Meanwhile, he glanced over to Amari, who didn't have much other luck. Whatever had painted her nails that deep crimson colour had also gone to her feet as well. Yet the nails seemed to have thickened up into something borderline hoofish - three-toed feet, with a smaller claw in the back. At least she still had toes, despite the somewhat hoofish appearance.
Peter and Amari glanced at each other. Wait a moment, Amari's entire face was turning black and orange, heck, it was going up to her scalp as well. Amari gulped as soon as she saw Peter's eyes entirely change colour. They changed from a hazel colour to a deep red, a stereotypical scar having formed around his left eye. Already, Peter felt a strange itching at his ears as they started pointing near the tip. Amari's own skin was starting to dry out, itching as well. Her scalp started itching quite a bit, feeling odd in some areas... wait, why was she feeling stuff around her jaws as well?
"I guess I should have mentioned one teensy little detail." Shade said, resting against Amatsu's side. "Most of the food we make isn't really for human consumption. Well I tell a lie, it can be for human consumption, but..." She giggled.
"Wait..." Amari looked at the raven, her head still itching as her hair fell away in patches. Several bumps were rising around her jaws, forehead and back, the itching just growing more intense by the second. Eventually the itching subsided, but not before a series of sharp, burgundy red spikes erupted from atop her head and the sides of her jaws, the two front-most bumps growing out into a pair of dangerous looking horns. She reached up to feel them, still not quite believing that they were attached to her, even as the last of her hair fell away. "All this is seriously your doing?"
"I'm a witch, my dear. What good is being a witch if I can't put my magic to use?" She trilled, stroking Amatsukaze's beak lovingly.
Several other spikes erupted from her scalp, going all the way down the back of her neck. Peter's ears stretched up more and more, before he felt his jaw starting to swell. He grabbed it into his hands, feeling the mass fill up more and more of his hands. He finally pulled it away, as soon as he developed a bit of an underbite - hell, an underbite from hell, as his bottom canines poked his way through his mouth.
"Wha th fu, amar ee your face."
She gasped as soon as she felt her face, her skull seemed to have been protruding out unnaturally. Her entire palate was expanding outwards, forming a wedge shaped muzzle. Her nose was absorbed into the mass, stopping just below her eyes. At least she still had a forehead, and her eyes painted forward. Then again, she looked right at Peter.
It seemed that he had his own muzzle, finally settling. He said a few experimental things, while Amari gently covered her own. Ow, the teeth hurt. Peter's own nose seemed to have been somewhat round at the front, almost like a pig's of some kind. Except he was able to see dark red tusks poking out Uh oh. He knew those well - just like boar's tusks.
"Are you alright?"
"Uh, fine?" Amari said, her new teeth showing as she spoke up.
"That's not all though..." Shade said in a singsongey voice.
"Ghh... I had a feeling there was gonna be more..." Amari groaned, and as if on cue, she could feel something pulling at her spine, causing her to yelp in surprise. Not only was she starting to grow taller, her frame becoming increasingly broader as her muscles began to develop at an alarming rate, her clothing feeling tighter against her as a result. Aside from her slowly growing body, her spine was extending out of her body, muscle and scales forming around it as it formed into what appeared to be a thick, beefy tail, wine-red spikes growing out along its top in sets of two at regular intervals along it. It curved down around her side, thwacking away at the chair she was sitting on. She was expecting it to break from the force of the strikes, but the chair stayed put.
"You'll get used to that new tail soon enough, my friend. And I wouldn't worry about breaking anything from involuntary movements, me and my friends have taken measures against accidents like that happening."
"Except for the Iron Lizard." one of the people called out, "Or the time the dude broke the chair with his weight."
"I had no way to predict those were going to happen!" Shade called back.
Peter meanwhile felt a small twitch behind him. He reached over and felt over his rear, feeling a smaller tail poking out behind him. Some part of him sank upon feeling this, but then when he felt a warm sensation at his arms and belly, he smiled. He took a look over at the muscular girl, as he stood up now. His clothes were not going to fit him anymore. He was getting to be quite big for sure. His belly poked out of his shirt, but his sleeves were ripped when his bones and muscles thickened. Oh, goody. He looked over his thighs to confirm that yes, there was indeed muscle. He would have felt quite bad if he was all fat - even though he knew a friend in Switzerland who happened to love creatures with large asses. Wait, he looked over his shoulder again to see his tail. By now, his skin was darkening even more. Soon, Peter felt a strange feeling around his hair. Wait, he was bald? He reached up and felt over his scalp.
There wasn't anything there, yet why did he feel something along the back of his neck? His ears twitched as he felt bristle-like fur growing across his body. He felt around the back of his neck, feeling a long set of hair.
"You know," Amari said, her voice now much deeper, "That would look nice as a ponytail."
"Kind of falls like a willow, doesn't it?" Peter said.
"Well, how do you like your new forms?" Shade asked, putting her hands on both of their muscley backs. (Making sure to avoid the spikes on Amari's own back.)
"Once you get over the initial surprise... " Peter, or rather Willow, started, taking a look at his porcine form. "The end results do look quite good!" He ran his hands across his stomach.
"And how about you, my dear dino?"
"I'd be lying if I said I didn't have thoughts about going to the gym to get a body this good. Least now I don't have to do that!" She grinned widely, showing off all her fangs in the process. "That'll probably save me a ton of money in membership fees alone!"
"From the sounds of it, we've got another pair of satisfied customers here!" Amatsu kweh'd again, looking at the boar and carnotaurus pairing.
"I should definitely say so." Another person said from nearby, "I love seeing them change like that."
Willow them walked over to Amari, reaching out to feel over her back. (Once again being careful to avoid the spikes - he nearly poked himself.) Amari went over to put her own arm around Peter's shoulders.
"I have the feeling kissing is going to be a bit awkward like this." Willow said.
"I don't think so, do you Peter?" Amari asked.
"Just call me Willow." He said, bringing his arms around her back to draw her into a kiss. Unfortunately, he pulled his left arm back.
"Uh, careful with the spikes." Amari said.
"Don't worry - you just have to be careful with the tusks, too."
With that they were brought into a kiss. Meanwhile, the jukebox played a segment from a certain Romeo and Juliet piece. Shade looked to the little monster by the jukebox.
"Cut that out, will you?" She asked politely.
"Sorry, force of habit." The kolbold chuckled sheepishly, changing the song to something more upbeat and non-ironic.
"You can never predict kolbolds, can you?" Shade smirked. "Tricky little buggers, I'll give em that much."
"I'm kinda surprised at how they can get around in here. Do you have any high chairs set up for them, or do they sit on books?"
"A little from column A and a little from column B!" Amatsu chimed in. "Though sometimes they try to use me as the high chair. They don't like it when their chair starts pecking them, however!"
"You know, I really think we should visit this place more often." Amari said, quite amused at that comment.
"I agree." Willow said, bringing her into another kiss. This time the annoying music did not play.
