First Enconters
He awoke to the sound of a familiar voice a voice he hated due to the fact it belonged to his personal aid that was given the job of waking him up every day at 6am but it felt sooner then that.
"Mr. President wake up they say we have a situation and they won't tell me anything." said Claire.
"Thank you Claire" said the president said standing up he was tall for a human with shiny black hair and browed shoulders.
He walked over to his wardrobe and threw on his jeans and button shirt he did this for the sake of time there might be something bad not to bad due to the fact he wasn't woken up by a squad of secret serves men. He continued to his office or the oval office were his high command the secretary of defense and the vice president were standing in a circle talking unaware that he just walked in until his vice president Jackson looked up.
"Mister President there is a situation it's urgent." Said Jackson as the president walked into the circle were he received a salute from the generals of all the military branches.
"So it appears but how bad and what is it?" He asked the group and they exchanged looks of nerves and of how will do the job of telling him.
"I think it would be better if we just showed you sir. " The general of the Air Force said clicking a button on a remote that turned on a screen on the wall.
It showed a large ship in the blackness of space sleek with a silver glow around it the ship appeared to be huge on the screen.
"How big is it is it alien and can we kill it if it's hostile?" the president asked calmly to his nerves staff.
"It is easily 10 miles wide and we don't know how long it's heading straight for us and its alien and honestly I don't know sir." His secretary of defense said.
"Ok see if we can make contact and ready any orbital weapons we have I don't care if there in prototype just get em up and going ASAP. "The president said calmly with an authoritative tone in his deep strong voice.
"Yes sir!" they all sounded off and started to work typing on computers and making calls.
He didn't know what would happen next but he wanted it to turn out well for the earth. The rest of the day was spent on the phone and over video feed talking to the leader of every large nation on the planet and they all decided to hold an emergency meeting of the United Nations tomorrow. After that long day the president slept a sleepless night filled with nightmares of slimy green creators like in the horror movies shooting lasers at his people and obliterating the human race.
When the president awoke the next morning he got dressed and looked at his itinerary it was cleared except for the meeting with the UN at eight in the morning it would last all day knowing the matter at hand. So after his morning routine the president walked out on the front door of the whit house saluting the marines that stood to the left and right of him and continued to walk to Marine One were another Marine opened the helicopters door with a salute to his commander and chief. The helcopter took off and proceed to the UN meeting were it touched down on a helicopter pad were there was leaders from multiple countries one of which was the prime minister of the united kingdom minister Tomas Blaine a close friend of his.
"Mister president it's nice to see you the situation how ever is not" said Blaine looking strong even though in side he was scared of these unknown forces.
"I understand Minister but we need to think of a plan as earth not just our own nations" Said The President calmly.
"I agree so shale we Mister president" the prime minister said as an aid opened the door for the two of them and they proceeded into the large building were they sat at there own seats. The room was full of the most powerful people on the earth and every one was scared of an unknown group that for all they knew was on there way to obliterate them. They all started to deliberate about what to do and they decided to appoint a representative of there planet and they decided to make the president of America there representative.
"He leads the most powerful country in our world he should represent us" said the president of France.
So with a new "temporary" union formed they began to create a plan. The plan was to make contact and see if they were hostile if they were use every resource on the planet to fight if they were not hostile make sure they would become allies with the new found life forms what ever they may look like. Suddenly an aid to the president ran into the room panic stricken.
"They made contact we have contact" he exclaimed running to the president and handing him a paper.
It read ‘Hello I am Kanashe leader of the Lumarians we wish to speak to your leader or leaders we come with peaceful intentions and will not harm you'. After reading it aloud to the room the president was taken to a room with communication gear and he began to type a response on a keyboard careful with his words as not to offend the advanced race.
"Hello I am the leader of the United States and temporary representative of the planet Earth my name is Finnegan President James Finnegan we welcome your peaceful intentions and will return them is there any reason you have chosen our planet" wrote the president sweat running down his face and his fingers shaking at the thought he was talking to a alien race or its leader. After a few minuets the Lumarians responded.
Thank you for peaceful welcome James Finnegan. The reason we have chosen your planet is that we admire your planets beauty and the way you operate as a planet. We have also been studying you for hundreds of years and we know all there is to know about you and I would like to meet you James" read Kanashe's message
"I will meet you Kanashe were would you want me to meet you" asked the president with his hand still shaking from now excitement of meeting a alien it was a dream of his since he was a young boy.
I would like to meet you at your dwelling or ‘the white house' as you call it on the large green patch you call grass lawn. There is one thing I must bring a single set of my strongest warriors as is our custom I would like it if you did the same you do not have to though mister Finnegan I am looking forward to meeting you.
That is fine Kanashe I will need time to prepare my people they do not know about you yet and it will be around two weeks till I can meet you is that fine? Asked the president know much calmer and not sweating any more.
It is fine and we will come into visible orbit in two earth days so you have till then to tell your people. I am looking forward to meeting you and seeing earth up close so for know good bye James Finnegan.
After the president told the members of the UN about his brief conversation with Kanashe he headed back to the white house with a new found smallness about himself knowing that they were not alone any more for sure. After he arrived back home the president sat his wife and kids down and told them of the encounter and that he was going to have to tell the world tonight. The president passed around the oval office thinking of what to say about there new found neighbors and he sat down at his desk and started to write.
Later on James was getting ready to make his speech it was around seven a clock when he first steeped in front of the camera crews and reporters.
"Ladies and gentlemen of America and Earth this is a historic day for all mankind at 1am this last Tuesday we have made contact with another race other than our own." Said the president calmly as the room erupted with the gasps and the shouting of questions at this last statement.
The president simply raised his hand for silence and the room fell dead quiet and the president continued with his address.
"Do not panic they are known as the Lumarians and they are peaceful and have come to visit our planet. They have been watching us a long time and know all about us there ship will come into visible orbit in two days and I will be meeting there leader Kanashe in two weeks here at the white house. So please do not panic and I bid you all a good night". The president then turned and walked away from the stunned crowed of reporters and into the white house were he proceeded to bed with his wife and slept a horrible nights sleep he was to nerves to sleep peacefully.
Meanwhile approaching the planet earth Kanashe was standing on the bridge of the ship looking at the blue planet in the distance through the main view screen of his ship.
"Commander James has just told the rest of the humans about us they seem to be taking it better than we expected" said a communications officer in front of a screen.
So a week and a half passed and things were just starting to calm down but the president was still faced with one more problem he needed his own set of warriors to be with him at the meeting so he chose a group who will not flinch at any foe will not stop till the enemy is slain and the one group who he had personally been part of his beloved Marine Corps. So he over looked the top scores of the marines still in service and made his selections of ten marines a healthy mix of the toughest male and female devil dogs the US had to offer.
Captain Jennifer Macmillan was at the bases rifle range honing her skill with her weapons incases things with the visitors went bad that's when her CO Major Jefferson approached her
"Macmillan front and center" Said Jefferson loudly.
"Yes sir!"Captain Macmillan sounded of giving her commanding officer a crisp salute as she approached.
"You have orders from the president you will be leaving tomorrow understood?" Jefferson said as he returned her salute.
"Yes sir!" she shouted as pride welled up in herself at the thought of coming to her leaders' aid in his time of need.
So Macmillan headed back to her barracks and started to pack her uniforms and such not speaking to her fellow Marines as ordered from Jefferson. Jennifer began to think about her new assignment and she wondered if it would be dangerous she new it had to involve the aliens if it was from the president. Once she had finished packing Macmillan headed to the air strip were she had a plane waiting to take her Washington D.C it had nine fellow Marines sitting inside some she had recognized from TV and one who was in her graduating class from boot camp now Lieutenant Anthony Alverez he liked to be called Tony though.
"Captain" Alverez said standing to attention snapping a crisp salute as did the other Marines
"At ease Marines" Macmillan said returning there salute she was going to be the senior officer on this mission this had to be a special mission every one of them was an officer. Jennifer took a seat next to Tony and they started to talk about how they have been and the mission but not to much due to the lack of intel they both had then there conversation turned to Alverez's family he had a wife and a baby at home. He pulled out a picture from between his armor plate and his chest it was of a small baby with bright blue eyes and his wife she had the same bright blue eyes and the baby had his tan skin. After talking for a couple hours there flight was over and they landed in an air port were two troop transporters were sitting waiting for the marines. After a short ride in the hummers the arrived at a hotel a block away from the white house were they were given rooms each had a room mate Macmillan's was the other female Marine in the group Smith she did talk a lot so the night was uneventful. They woke up to the soft wrapping of knuckles on there door at five in the morning and when they got up and found a very tired bell hop standing at the door.
"Your wake up call maim as requested by the presidents aid he said you are to report to the white house at 7am" said the bell hop stifling a yawn then turning and walking away.
So Smith and Macmillan began to adorn there dress blues complete with the saber. Once they were fully uniformed and squared away the two females headed down to the lobby were the other eight marines waited for them. When she approached they all gave her a salute.
"So how are we getting there dose any one know?" she asked the group.
"We will be taking a limo maim" said a marine named Thompson.
"Ok guys we don't know why we are meeting the president but be ready for anything understood?"Captain Macmillan addressed them.
"Yes maim" they all said in unison.
"Hoora" she said to the marine group.
"Hoora!"They all shouted them making the bell boy from before jump into the air and the marines all laughed at the jumpy young boy.
When the limo arrived they all got in Macmillan first followed by smith then the rest. The short trip was with out any chatter just the nerves taping of highly polished shoes or the gentle thumping of white gloved hands on knees. Macmillan thought it reminded her of pre combat jitters and she liked it the nerves kept them alive but this was know combat mission. When the long black limo pulled up they were met by an aid to the president. He took them into the white house. From there the group was taken to the breakfast dinning hall were president Finnegan sat in a suit with a dark red tie.
"Morning Sir" the Marines said snapping to attention and giving the president a salute.
"Morning please sit breakfast will be here shortly "he said standing up returning there salute and the gesturing for them to sit. They did as order Macmillan was moving to sit at the far side until the president addressed her.
"Captain Macmillan here please" he said gesturing to the seat to his right and the captain did as told sitting at attention.
"Ok so I'm sure you all have noticed the 50 mile long black ship that is currently orbiting above us right now. So ill give you the run down the leader of the Lumarians Kanashe will be visiting us tomorrow and I have chosen you all because you are the best of the best the strongest of The United States Marine Corps and that's saying something as you know. Any way you will be with me when I meet him he will also be bringing a set of his strongest warriors it his custom and he wanted us to return so I picked you ten know we don't have any idea what they are going to look like so be prepared for anything ok. So eat up and I brought you here to meet you all and I cant to think of a better way than over breakfast" the president said.
A group of waiters walked in and placed large platters of food before them. They all ate there food in silence except for Macmillan and the president he continued to ask questions through out the meal just about her in general she felt as if this was preparation for something big. When the meal was finished they were given a tour of the white house by the president himself including the oval office and the grounds. During the tour he gave away more details about the meeting like how it was to be at the white house and that there will be no pedestrians aloud with in two miles of the white house due to the privacy they would like to up hold for the Lumarians and if the way they land on the planet is not so safe for the pedestrians. The group also learned that it will be 12 in the after noon when they arrive.
"Oh one last thing you all will be staying here tonight so that you will be able to be by my side if there is a error in the time they arrive" the president said and the marines nodded in response as order earlier by the president.
"So you all need to get a lot of rest tonight is that under stood?" he asked them all directly.
"Yes sir" they responded.
After this they were taken to there temporary barracks inside the white house they found that this secret barracks was well stocked with weapons and the gear that they had left at the hotel was all neatly put away. So they had 4 hours of down time till lights out which they all spent differently a few started a card game and some were detailing there uniforms this group included Alverez and Macmillan who's bunks were next to each other. So Jennifer was working on placing her service ribbons and medals on her uniform and Tony was working on shining his boots that's when the real conversation started.
"So what do you think they look like captain?" Alverez asked Macmillan.
"I don't know Alverez I have a feeling they aren't going to be like the ones in the movies at all" she said calmly consternating on her ribbons.
"Why is that ma'am?" Tony asked.
"I am not really sure I just don't think they are going to be all slimy and green." Jennifer said looking up from her uniform and looking at Alverez.
"Oh ok I was wondering if they will want to take one of us back with them?" Alverez said with a worried look on his face at his CO
"Well I think they might want to but I think they will let one of there own stay with us if they do you know an exchange thing." She answered as she then picked up her saber from beside her and drew it to clean the blade twirling it in her palm for a second the whipping a cloth down the razor sharp blade.
"Oh ok who do you think they will want to take ma'am?" The lieutenant asked now working on his own saber.
"I am not sure Tony I don't think you should worry about it what you should worry about is that beard you are growing there" she said with a smile at her friend.
"Yes ma'am ill shave know" Tony said reaching into his bag grabbing a razor and mirror and began to shave. A few hours pasted and it was time for lights out and every one went to sleep quickly and every one slept well on the comfortable bunks. They were woken up at 6am by a man in a white butler's uniform. After quickly eating breakfast with some of the presidents staff including some secret serves men who were clearly upset by the fact that they were not picked to be part of the welcome comity this did not bother any of them though the marines just ate there meal in silence partially from years of not being able to talk during meals on base or in boot camp and the fact they were a mater of hours from meeting the leader of an alien race. So after chow they headed back to there barrack it was around 10: 55 am and they needed to get ready for the ceremony. There uniform was comprised of there dressed blues with saber and ceremonial rifle so the ten marines met one last time in the center of the barracks.
"Alright guys this is a big deal and lets do it right show them that we are a organized group and that we are proud of or country and now are planet. We are right now representing the fighting forces of the entire earth in the Lumarians eyes ok so keep it tight and crisp hoora" said to the rest of the group.
"Hoora" the group said.
They all might have been nerves before but it was all gone they all knew they had a job to do nothing else matters now that they are going to do there jobs. They all went up the stairs and through the white house in a loose formation until they met the president at the entrance way of the white house. They all saluted and greeted the president with a good morning sir the salute was then returned by the president who quickly glanced at his watch it was 11:50 am. That's when the marines fell into there formation standard two rows of five with Captain Macmillan at the front right. When they were in there formation was ready two marine door men opened the large white doors letting in a flood of light from the cool spring day.
"Forward march!" Captain Macmillan shouted and the formation began to march out of the doors and down the stairs in perfect step and formation so good Macmillan didn't need to say cadence. In silence they continued there way onto the lawn were they came to a stop and stood at attention. The president then began to walk out.
"Present arms!" The captain sounded off and the ten of them in unison drew there sabers and held them out and the president walked though them and then stood.
"Order arms!" the formation then stowed there swords in there sheathes.
"Right face!" shouted Macmillan and the group turned right with one movement and stood at attention the time was 11:56. Suddenly there was a low rumble in the sky and all of the sudden a small craft began to approach and it came to a hover above the white house lawn silently hovering above them then the craft began to descend to the ground producing no heat or even wind wash. The craft finally touched down and the rear hatch began to open emitting smoke and then the silence was pierced by the sound of metal clanking on metal and then from the smoke came one shining silver armored being then another they walked in formation each carrying a large metal spear and sword that was clipped to the side of there armor. They became to become clearer from the smoke and the metal beings face appeared to be almost canine pointed face with large ears all of which was cover in shining metal armor. There was ten of them in all each one towering at a easy nine feet tall and when they turned to the side you can see a long armored tail. A silence fell over the group of humans and aliens alike until there was another set of clanking boots walking out of the back of the ship this being was in larger armor and his appeared to be a sort of black chrome. He continued past the other beings and up to the president giving the president a low bow.
"I am Kanashe leader of the Lumarians" Kanashe said standing up straight from his bow.
"I am James Finnegan president of the United States of America" said the president as he bowed.
"It is nice to meet you would you mind if my guard was aloud to interact with your solders?" asked Kanashe his stance changed to a relaxed state like the president and him were old friends.
"Let me see if it is ok with my marines" then the president turned and walks to Macmillan
"Would you mind if I had you meet his guards" the president asked Macmillan.
"Yes sir we are up to any task you give us" she said in a proud voice. Mean while Kanashe was addressing his own guard.
"You all will act civilized and you might want to flirt with one of there females just as a sign of good faith. Kanashe said to his men but looking at Tonike a specific male that he thought would be a good special ambassador to one of the females. Kanashe then removed his helmet revealing a face much like a canine of this world one called a wolf, his fur was jet black and he had red eyes and the face of a fierce leader and one that commanded respect.
"Fall out!" Macmillan ordered her squad. All the marines stood in a group talking to each other in hushed tones that could still be heard by the Lumarians. The two leaders talked to each other and noticed the others were not interacting and the president compared it to a dance with the boys on one side of the gym and girls on the other. Suddenly Tonike walked over to the group of marines.
"Hello my name is Tonike it is nice to meet you all I can tell you are all fierce warriors". He said removing his helmet. Tonike had brilliant whit fur and vivid blue eyes and a kinder face he was like the opposite of Kanashe's witch was colder.
"Hello I am Captain Jennifer Macmillan commanding officer of these marines "she said looking up at Tonike and reaching out her hand.
"It is a pleasure to meet you and your fellow markines" he said stumbling a bit with his words.
"Ha-ha its pounced ma-re-ne" she said as she quickly looked over the Lumarian.
"Oh I see captain thanks you, hold on" Tonike said then he ran over to his group who were all standing in a circle he quickly said something in Lumarian to them and when Jennifer looked down she saw Tonike's armored tail waging madly and a grin on his wolf like face. He then started to walk back over to the group of marines with the rest of the Lumarians following him.
"So captain this is the rest of the guard" Tonike said as the rest of the Lumarians started to remove there helmets they all shared the same basic appearance there faces wolf like each how ever looked different they all had different fur color and such but Tonike looked the best with shining white fur and toughs kind eyes or at least that's what Jennifer thought. The Lumarians spread out and talked with different marines asking questions and such, Tonike how ever went back over to Macmillan.
"Hello so how do you do?" Tonike asked as he stood with his arms behind his back and looking as small as the 8ft tall being can.
"I'm doing fine thank you, so are all Lumarians as tall as you and your squad?" she asked looking up into his vivid blue eyes.
"Umm you see most of use is but there are a few that are shorter." He said looking down into the captains light green eyes. There eyes met and an almost electrical connection came between the too beings.
"Oh I see that is interesting" Jennifer said smiling and blushing a bit. They talked for a good hour and then the president and Kanashe told the two groups to head inside and go to the dinning room to eat. The groups did as told and walked back into the white house the Lumarians had to duck under the doors. When they arrived the groups sat at the table in quiet large chairs that were brought in by a Lumarians so they could sit comfortably. Tonike sat across from Captain Macmillan and they continued to talk gazing into each others eyes then when the leaders arrived they were addressed by the president.
"Kanashe and I have been talking and we have made a decision to do an exchange program with the each other" The president said calmly. Alverez shot a look at Macmillan and she returned it.
"So I would like to see if any of you marines would like to volunteer to go back to the Lumarians home planet" The president asked calmly. With out second thought Jennifer volunteered raising a closed fist (the military way to raise your hand).
"Mr. President Sir I would like to volunteer" Jennifer stated proudly as she got curious and outrageous looks from her squad mates and when she glanced over at Alverez she could see a grin on his face that meant he knew that this was coming
"Ok Macmillan is going with us" Kanashe said to his guard in an official tone. The marines were silent they wouldn't object to there captains choice it wasn't there place and what she was doing was very brave in there eyes and for even a marine. Jennifer glanced at Tonike and he was beaming with excitement and anticipation and the site of him grinning made the captain grin also.
"When will I be living Kanashe?" Jennifer asked her new host, he would be that a host. This decision to go along with them wasn't hard the only real people she knew were her fellow marines since her parents were killed when she was young and then Jen was tossed around in foster care homes till the age of 17 when she illegally joined the marines.
"Immediately captain" he said calmly.
"Thank you sir" she said gruffly as a marine should. After that she was dismissed to gather her things with an assistant of her choosing she picked Tonike.
"Captain why are you coming with me?" He paused for a second" I mean us". Jennifer gave him a soft glance out of the corner of her eye as she packed and he stood there quietly as instructed by her.
"Well I have always wanted to go to space and well I kind of like you Tonike, so why not go along?"
"Well thank you I like you too Captain."
"Call me Jen."
"Ok Jen."
They had finished packing and they went back out to the grass yard were all of them stood. The first to say good bye was the president who told her she was doing a great serves to her country and that she should be proud. Then some of her fellow marines approached her with good bye the last was Tony.
"Like wise Marine" she said formally. Tony then gave her a tight embrace and she felt him sigh with sadness.
"Good bye Jen" he said then he pulled back from the hug and gave her a crisp salute and then smiled. From there she followed the Lumarians into the ship pausing and the and of the landing ramp to look back and then she saw her marines in formation with Tony as there leader and they all gave her a last crisp salute as a form of good bye. She boarded the craft and the ramp slowly raised emitting smoke which clouded her last view of her home.
