#3 of New Ways Die Hard

Curragh learns more details on a mission he has been selected for. Thanks for the read and comments are always welcome.

"I beg your pardon my Chieftian?" the Curragh asked confusion clearly seen on his face.

The Chief nodded to Talo, "The request came directly from the Emperor Titus VI of Camerix. He and some of his staff believe the ambassador is to be homosexual. Tainted be these news ideologies that are in complete defiance to Camerix and Wolvos law."

"Then why not just bring up the charges, arrest the son of a gun, and execute him? What do you need Curragh for?" Kiara asked.

"If only it were that simple. The emperor would have done just that, but there is problem. A lack of evidence is the problem. Evidence you will try to get Curragh." The yellow coyote, Ludlow smirked, "Kiara he is the only wolf we have capable of a mission like this. It's taken time, but we have managed to find his history prior to becoming a werewolf. A history that you, I am sure you know well, and know the consequences of."

"He changed from those ways. He did it for me and did so that he could remain a werewolf!" the blue wolf snarled, "It was either change or die! What he did is his past no longer matters. That was more than a decade ago. He has be faithful to me ever since."

The Chiefess grinned, "It appears you are quite faithful to him as well."

Curragh finally spoke, "If I may my Chieftain...What is there to gain from all of this? I've been here long enough to figure out politics of this place are cut throat. Heck the only reason I was allowed to remain a werewolf is because I have the Moon Stone. A relic that is supposed to be the Chiefs jewel. However the one you have my Chieftain is a fake. You simply can't take the true one from me either. So you need me to be on your side so you don't lose popular support from the clan chiefs, pack alphas, and common folk. They know I have the Chiefs jewel and many wish to see me in a position of power. So if I accept and get the evidence required then what happens? What happens if it turns out the ambassador is not what you believe him to be?"

The room was silent. No one dared spoke to the Great Chief in that manner. It was unorthodox. He was to be shown the upmost respect when graced by his presence. The Chiefess glared at Curragh. Talo, Landy, and Ludlow were shocked. Even Kiara remained silent. She scowled at Curragh who simply shrugged. The four guards drew their swords, ready to end the white wolf if need be.

"Should we escort this mutt out my Chieftain?" Talo growled.

The black wolf with held up a paw, "Ever perceptive and honest Curragh." The Chief mused, "It's refreshing to hear honest questions, and be told in blunt honesty. When I am so often surrounded by lies, deception, and schemes for power. I will let your questions be entertained. In the future you should watch your tone pup. Mr. Landy would you be so kind as to answer."

"Of course my Chieftain." The fox diplomatic advisor said, "Curragh tensions between the werebeast canines and felines are at an all-time high. In ten years' time could we could be in all-out war with them. A war that humans, not matter how hard we try, will be involved in. We need to take any action we can to prevent such a catastrophe. The Camerix emperor asked us to aid him in this task."

"I realize that please move on." Curragh replied.

The fox growled mumbling, "Long story short. If you complete the mission you will be seen a hero on both sides of the spectrum. If the ambassador is found guilty you will be viewed as risking yourself for the sanctity of our people. Exposing those who wish to taint our people's way of life with new blasphemous ways. You may even get the honor to execute him if it comes to that."

The Chief continued, "If it turns out the ambassador his not guilty then he will simply give a good report. Telling his superiors we have no hostile intentions and wish to remain at peace with the Camerix Empire. You will be viewed as a diplomatic hero who has adverted a war that would have cost us dearly."

Kiara spoke, "Well it seems the next logical step is to ask exactly what is it Curr..."

"This is wrong." Curragh growled ears flat against his head, "The ambassador is a single guy. What difference does it make if he is exposed or not, and why am I the one that has to do it?"

Talo drew his sword and held it to Curragh's neck, "How dare you speak to the Chief in that matter mutt!"

Carragh snarled at Talo. The Moon Stone began to glow making his white fur seem to glow. The cold blade of the weapon pressed against the fur of his neck. He wanted to attack and force the red wolf in submission. Kiara stepped between the two wolves. She pushed the sword aside and took the white wolf to here side. Talo withdrew after the Chief said nothing.

The Chief nodded to Sarah Ludlow. The coyote brought out a file and slammed it on the table, "Because you are the only wolf we know that is capable of dealing with the matter. If I am correct prior to becoming a werewolf you committed such acts yourself on multiple occasions. Even a few after you became a wolf as well. Is that correct?"

Curragh looked to Kiara next to him, "You are in the presence on the Chief and Chiefess. It would be unwise to lie to them."

"Yes that is correct." Curragh sighed, "Once again that was more than ten years ago, and the more recent events were...an unfortunate lapse in judgement. Have I not proven my loyalty to Wolvos and what it upholds?"

"Yes, and you shall be continuing to be loyal to Wolvos by taking this mission." Talo growled, "By taking this mission you will be both serving both Wolvos and Camerix. Plus there is the very real possibility this is just a hunch the cats have and will lead to nowhere."

"What is it that I will have to do?" the white wolf asked.

"The ambassador will be staying in our land for a months' time. In that you will be assigned as his personal servant or guide if you will." The Chief replied, "At his request."

Curragh asked, "He requested me?"

"Yes." The Chief chuckled, "He requested you each of the past four times he wanted to visit. Odd, is it not?"

His mate continued, "You will simply see if what he is accused of is true or not. I suppose charm him? Or do whatever is that you would do with other males." Disgust heard in her voice.

"Once your time with him is complete you will make your report to me." Talo ordered, "What you say must be your honest and true assessment of the ambassadors' ways. If you lie I assure you, we will find out. I will personally make sure you and those you care about suffer for your lies to the Great Chief and betrayal of Wolvos." He glared at him and Kiara.

Curragh growled at the red wolf. Kiara squeezed his paw again. He gave him a look that said Talo is not to be trifled with.

"May I ask one final question my Chieftain." The white wolf asked.

"Of course. Ask away. Your cooperation with us on this matter is very important."

The Chiefs emerald eyes made Curragh uneasy, "May I have time to think about this request? Give me until this time tomorrow for an answer."

"My Chieftain that would be unwise. The ambassador will be here in two days." Tyler protested, "As soon as he got the word he will be allowed to visit he set off immediately."

The Chief growled. He called his advisors to him. He sent Curragh and Kiara to stand away at a nearby window. Their vantage point in the palace gave an impressive view of the great capital city. Centuries old structurers mixed it with modern. A perfect mix of old and new. Kiara placed her arm around his waist pulling him close. She ran her nose though his lupine chest. His silver eyes fixed out window to the lands beyond.

"What's on your mind." She whispered.

"More than you could imagine. We need to speak of this in private." He replied. His initial feelings for the Chief had grown hostile.

"Curragh!" the Chief bellowed.

"Yes my Chieftian." He replied with a bow.

"You have until this time tomorrow for an answer. I hope you choose correctly. Guards escort them out." The Chief commanded.

The two were rather rudely escorted out of the throne room. The doors shut with an echo behind them. To Curragh's surprise Solomon Peter was waiting for them. His uniform had changed from that of a courier to that of a guide.

"So are you a courier, servant, or guide? Curragh asked.

"I merely do what the Great Chief commands." The fox replied.

"And exactly what has he commanded of you to do this time."

"To make sure you, Curragh, try not to flee the city and skirt you duties to Wolvos." The fox smirked.

"Let's head back to the apartment Kiara." Curragh took her paw. Leaving the fox behind.
