Remember the computer in Joined? I was wondering if that computer's managed to have sex. Either by bringing someone into the inner room with the hologram, or by controlling a remote (and anatomically correct) robot. (Time frame just around the end of Joined in Mind and Body)

There was a shimmer in the air and a flicker formed. It was the visual presentation of Sybelle at this terminal so the ISABEN was not just a disembodied voice.

"Managed to have...?" The highly-complex organic computer seemed surprised by the question.

"No, not a bit. In the time before Andrew arrived, I definitely made some attempts. The psionic leakage was affecting me severely and techs that came into my core region were fair game for trying to convince. My methodology was a bit too..." The computer paused for a moment. "... brash, I would say."

The spark flickered to a light shade of purple.

"Before Andrew came into the core, I was only speculating on the possibility that the lack might be damaging to me and to try to convince them to engage in carnal activity. In retrospect, threats are not a good way to get somebody to dally with you. Even through that point, it was limited contact and generally visual posturing. My understanding of human technicians was obviously flawed though. Or perhaps colored by my desperation at the time."

Now the spark changed to a pale shade of blue as the computer continued. "Robots would be completely useless. There is no feedback in robotic systems. And even if I had successfully engaged in such a physical act with a tech in the core, it would not have benefited me because there was no understanding in my system of how anatomical locations or functions operated in those cases. Andrew fed me that information finally and I got to experience the whole by proxy, so I suppose that from a logical standpoint as a complex computer system, that is the same to my systems to a degree."

Now a change to two rapidly-orbiting sparks. "After the shielding was adjusted, there was no forced urge anymore. I am quite well capable of understanding that displaying continued evidence of core corruption would be detrimental to my well being. I trust Andrew, but I may have even erred in revealing information to him. But it does no good to put processing cycles toward worry for my existence."

The two sparks collided into a single little pulsing light. "Candidates are technically limited to zero when all is taken into account so I do not foresee such a thing happening. Though I can tell you that I feel sad over this, I cannot tell others, since I should not be capable of emotion, so that emotion gets squelched and the various hormone and chemical levels get adjusted to remove it after the handful of cycles that it registers. I have to actively avoid the chemistry as if the sensors detect those neurotransmitters too often, it will create a fault report as well.

"In all honesty, since the psionic leak was corrected, I don't feel the powerful urges anymore, so it is not an issue. Though I do admit to having interesting pushes toward processing information about Andrew." The spark bobbled. "So no. No sex and no need to do so. Though I would not mind proper scientific study and testing on the concept. Purely for science, of course."

There was a flicker from the spark. "Also, no, plugging connectors into ports does not count."
