What is a Xurien?
A Xurien is an age-old species, originating from hundreds of thousands of years ago. They are the original Kitsune, feline and canine. Those three species derived from the Xurien.Originally, the Xurien's tails do not mean power, as a Kitsune's would, instead, they stand for the amount of special bonds a Xurien holds. Family, mate(s), anybody they consider close enough to hold a special place in their heart. Xurien also have very sharp fangs, they may resemble a vampires in length, and in the ability to hide them and they definitely love blood... but they do not live or thrive, or gain strength off of it.
A Xurien is always born with one tail, and that tail decides their powers. Each tail has a symbol etched into it, out of the fur itself, and that symbol is usually a Japanese Kanji, (Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Lightning. There is rarely Darkness and Light as well.) Very rarely, one will be born with two symbols, but never more than that. For each deep bond formed, a new tail appears, and with it, a new symbol. This power is half as strong as the original, and is the same from the rest of the tails on. It is half as strong as the previous one formed. (Example: Karashi was born with Darkness and Light, but has two extra tails. Fire and Lightning. The fire is weaker than the Darkness and Light, and the lightning is even weaker.) They can choose to focus on one specific talent, and make it stronger, but their original powers will always be the strongest.
Each tail will have a different pattern on the tail itself, for the specific relationship. (It can be custom to whatever the owner of the Xurien character wishes to have it appear as.) But the tails resemble that of a snow leopard's and a wolves, mixed. They can be very long, or medium length, and they're not fluffy, instead they're slim and soft, silky smooth. Symbols for the mates, tend to be the mate's name in Japanese writing.
A Xurien can live anywhere from five-hundred thousand years old, to a million. The oldest known Xurien was 1.2 million years of age. The species has since died out, and currently, Karashi is the only remaining one that she knows of.
They're wise, smart, and extremely playful, and loyal to a fault. They have tendencies to be possessive, and jealous of others, especially when it comes to mates and often fear they will drive their mates away because of it. However, this doesn't apply to ALL Xurien's, it can differ per Xurien, and can have varying degrees.
A Xurien also has a feral form, and their tails multiply times four when in their feral form. They have complete control over their physical bodies, able to alter themselves physically, in all ways imaginable to the mind. But, each change brings along physical pain afterwards, and they must let their bodies adapt and adjust to the new parts before being able to use them.
A Xurien is a sort of mage type species, or maybe a sorcerer. Their magic comes from within their own body, and they are able to use it to alter the word around them and empower or quicken themselves. So far, the only one adept at magic, is Karashi. Because she is currently the only one known to remain and still practice the old magics.
