"Hey! I'm Silus Inami, but people around here call me Jake because of my rather unusual first name. Aside from that, I'm a Husky. I just graduated from high school a couple months ago and I moved out of the house as soon as I could. I moved into my dorm room at college early so I could get a head start on figuring out where everything was. I wanted to get a feel for the campus so I could get my classes quickly. I haven't been on my own very long, so I'm still getting used to life. I was accepted right out of high school to attend Willow State. It's not a huge school, but none the less it is college and it'll get me my diploma. It was built a few years ago, about ten. It's in a small city called Ashton that's nearly 3000 miles East from where I used to live in Trinity. Trinity was on the West coast. Beautiful beaches everywhere, but i've always preferred being in a woodsy area. Ashton was just that... woods. Being that it's my first year, I kind of look up to all the upperclassmen to help guide me. One, in particular, being my roommate. He's in his third year already, so he only has two more years until he graduates and moves on to bigger and better things. Lucky for me, now that we are roommates, we won't change unless we request or move out. So he will be my roommate until he graduates. His name is Shawn, and he's a grey fox. His body is firm and chiseled. He has very faint darker gray stripes that run diagonally across his body. They aren't easily noticed, but I saw them one day when he was changing to go to the movies. He came from the same city as me, so we instantly became good friends, but we had never met before. Truth be told, I really kind of think he's pretty hot, but I don't want to say anything. I don't want to ruin our friendship."

"Hi. I'm Shawn Victor. I'm sure Jake told you a little about me, but I'm a grey Fox. Let me tell you about Jake first since i'm sure he didn't even tell you what he looked like. He's not very tall, probably coming to about 5'9", he's got a beautiful white and grey coat. His tail is to die for, it's so curly and white and fluffy! He's not very athletic, so he doesn't have a very strong body, but he's definitely not a big person. I'd venture to say he weighs about 180 pounds. I'm sure with a little bit of work he could be a sexy beast. I used to live in a small city called Trinity on the West coast, until I got accepted to Willow State and moved to Ashton about half the country away. Jake and I came from the same city, but we had never met because I'm a few years older than him. It seems strange that we somehow got roomed together in college. Anyways, I kind of have this dilemma, I really think Jake is hot, but I don't want to say anything because I'm worried he won't accept me. Maybe I'm just being stupid."

"Hello! My name is Randall Willow and I'm a white Tiger. White Tiger are rare around these parts, but no one notices, so it's nothin' special to me. I'm from a small city near here called Johannesburg. It's not very far away, but I had decided to live on campus anyways. I wanted to get the real feel of the college student life. I'm a couple doors down from Jake and Shawn. I hear 'em blastin' music some nights and it makes me wanna join 'em, but I know they are just tryin' to get along. If you want my opinion on the topic, I think they like each other. Well, I'm gonna tell y'all that it ain't no big deal if they like each other. The gay community might not be the best around, but it's still pretty damn good."

"Hey there, I'm Cindy Fullmore. I'm a golden retriever. I live across the hall from Jake and Shawn. Those two are two of a kind let me tell you. They like the same music, the same TV shows, the same games, they are even majoring in the same subject. The only difference is Shawn is a third year and Jake is a first year. Man, sometimes I'm really jealous of them, having such a good friend like that always by their side. I even think they would be totally cute together! We ALL know they both like each other, one of them just needs to swallow their pride and ask the other one to be his boyfriend! Well anyways, there's one more person who wants to say hi."

"Hey. My name is Josh Gavin. I'm an otter. I live on the floor right above Jake and Shawn. Unlike Cindy and Randall, I don't hear the two jam out all night since the floors are pretty sound proof. But anyways, I'm from Australia. I moved here to Johannesburg when I was twelve, so I've pretty much lost my accent. Kind of sucks since I was really popular because of it, but it faded rather fast. I haven't lost much popularity though due to the fact that I'm the captain of the swim team for Willow State. I made captain end of my first year which has never been heard of. But I'm in the class with Shawn. Well, today is the first day of classes and I can't wait to start! Time to get this third year on and done so I can be a senior!"

"Hey! Jake! Wake up you lazy bum! Your first class starts in 30 minutes! You're gonna be late!" Jake's eyes shot open and he grabbed his phone on his nightstand. It read 07:30. "Gah! Why didn't you wake me up sooner?" "Well you looked so peaceful I didn't want to disturb you. Until your alarm was over and you kept lying there. I decided it was right to wake you up. You're welcome" Jake sighed. "Thanks for that. You saved my life! I gotta get ready, what do we have for breakfast?" "I made you some pancakes and bacon. I left them on the plate on your nightstand. Syrup is in the fridge." "Oh man you're the best roommate ever!" Shawn rolled his eyes and sat on his bed as Jake raced around the room gathering his things. "You know Jake, you don't have to rush that fast, your first class is trig. It's only a five minute walk from here." "I know, but I wanna get there early. It never does good to be on time, what if there's a holdup? Then you're late. But if you're early, then if there's a hold up you're suddenly on time!" "Well, can I hold you up to ask a question?" Jake stopped dead in his tracks. He looked at Shawn, "What question?" Shawn suddenly realized what he was going to ask and instead just laid back down. "Nevermind, it's nothing." Jake had a confused look on his face. "well, if you rack up the nerve to ask, let me know!" Shawn coughed in surprise thinking Jake knew. "What do you mean "rack up the nerve"?" "You know, people usually start a question like that, and say nevermind when they are too worried about the answer. It's basic behavior." Shawn blushed and pulled his blanket to his chest. "You know, I have a feeling this is going to be a fantastic year." "What makes you say that?" "Just a hunch." Jake looked at Shawn with a bit of confusion. He shrugged his shoulders, continued getting dressed and ate breakfast. He then disappeared behind the door on his way to his first class of college. Shawn laid in bed for another good hour and a half before he started getting ready for his class. He thought about Jake and worried about him. The first day was usually the most stressful. However, he wouldn't get to sit down with Jake again until it was about time for dinner. The best part about going for the same major, is they matched their schedule up so they had the same days off. And they even had the same class on Wednesday at noon.

Shawn met up with Randall, Cindy, and Josh and went to lunch with them. Jake didn't have the same lunch time they did, however, he had about 15 minutes to talk to them before he had to leave for his next class. Jake waved goodbye from the exit while Shawn and the others sat down. Cindy stared at Shawn dead in the face. "Okay, spill it." Shawn choked on his lunch a second before swallowing enough to croak "Spill what exactly?" "All the details! What did he say? He's obviously okay with it at least being as you're still talking!" Josh chimed in "You did tell him, didn't you?" Shawn stared at his food a minute before answering. "I was too nervous. I didn't say anything." Cindy dropped her spoon. "What the hell Shawn? That boy is so cute! If you don't make your move someone else will! I mean hell, I might ask him myself." Shawn sat there blankly staring at his trey. "I know. He's a cute freshman, he'll be snatched up within a week if I don't do something about it. The problem is, I just don't know what to do. I already take him out to dinner and to the movies a lot. What could I do to make the moment special?" Randall sat forward, "Well, I know a place you could go. Take him there on one of y'alls three day weekend or somethin'." Cindy and Josh looked at Randall with a disapproving glare. "What? All he gotta do is tell me he wants to do it and I can talk my dad into lettin' him borrow his boat." Shawn looked at Randall with confusion. "What do you mean "boat"?" "Well, there's a real nice spot out on the lake not too terribly far from here. You could take him out for a nice night on the water and such. My dad's boat has a cabin y'all can sleep in, and even has a half kitchen. So take him out this weekend and throw down some moves!" "I don't even know how to drive a boat." "It's real simple. You simply drive like a car, just with no lanes. And when you drive at night, they have two lights, one on each side. If you see the green light, you can pass 'em, if you see the red light then don't pass. It's real easy. I can take you out tonight and teach you if you want." "I really just wanted to go back and be with Jake tonight, but I guess that would be better in the long run. I'd like to try it." Cindy and Josh stared at Shawn in disbelief. Shawn finally noticed them and proceeded to ask "What?" Cindy opened her mouth as if she was going to say something, but then changed her mind. Josh sat forward. "We thought you hated anything to do with water. Now all of the sudden you're going to go out boating all by yourself? You must be mad!" "I... guess you're right, but then again, love drives you crazy right?" Josh stopped mid chew. "Whoa... whoa.. whoa... when did we get on the subject of love? I thought you just thought he was hot?" "I don't just think he's hot. Basically... imagine it like this, you see a girl, and you think she's hot, you just wanna bang her to see how it feels being with a hot girl. But you see a cute girl and you think, well I wonder what kind of girlfriend she would make, so you get to know her and you ultimately judge whether you would like to be with her. Then you have the in between, hot as hell, but you wanna know if they'd be good girlfriend material. That's how I feel with Jake." Cindy put her spoon down slowly. "I get how you feel. Well Shawn, I want you to know I have your back. One hundred percent!" Shawn looked at her with a gleam in his eyes. "Thanks Cindy, I really needed that. You just gave me the courage to leap into the unknown." With that being said, the four of them threw their trash away and returned to their classes.

Later that night Shawn met up with Jake to tell him he was going to go out with Randall for a couple hours and that he'd be back before midnight. Jake hesitated but said okay and bid them farewell for the evening. Jake waited in the room for Shawn to return. When Shawn walked In at about 02:50, Jake ran to him and threw his arms around Shawn. Shawn staggered back with surprise. "What the hell is going on?" Jake looked up at Shawn with tears in his eyes. "I thought you had gotten into trouble! You didn't answer any of my calls! Where were you?" Shawn pulled out his phone to see he had 23 missed calls from Jake. "I'm sorry, we were out where there was no signal. I didn't get any of these calls until just now. We didn't realize how late it was until we had to stop to get gas. The clock on Randall's boat was broken and we left our phones in the truck." "What do you mean "the clock on the boat"? I thought you hated water. That's why you didn't want to go with me to the pool." Shawn stopped and looked at Jake. "It's nothing, Randall wanted to show me something cool and wouldn't tell me what it was, so I went along with him and we ended up at the lake. I couldn't flake on him when we were already there." "Oh, I see." Jake sniffled and sat down on his bed. "I'm just glad to know you're okay." "Jake... I... I need to talk to you, but not right now. It's not the time right now. What are you doing Friday night?" "Well, a couple of girls invited me to a party Friday night. I said yes, but it's no rsvp, so I can back out, why?" "Just free up your plans. You and I are going to do something wonderful!" "Alright. I'll tell them Wednesday I can't go to the party. And if anyone else asks I'll just tell them I'm busy. What are we gonna do Friday night?" "You'll see. Just don't make plans Friday night through Saturday night." "Okay!" Shawn stood up and stretched, I'm exhausted. Time for some shut eye! I'll see you in the morning." "Alright, goodnight."

The next morning came abruptly. The alarm went off at six am and the two got up. They didn't have class today, but they figured they might as well not waste the day away. Shawn told Jake he had some errands to run and left. He told Jake he'd be back at around 3 pm so they could spend the afternoon lounging around playing games. Jake stood up and went down to the kitchen where he found Cindy, Randall, and Josh all making breakfast. All of them had classes today. Jake sat down next to Josh and said good morning to everyone. Cindy was cooking eggs and bacon with a side of French toast sticks and syrup. Jake's mouth began to water. Somehow, Shawn randomly popped into his head and he began to turn a deep red color. Cindy noticed and proclaimed, "You know, husky don't camouflage, and even if they did, it's pretty pointless to turn red when you're on a white background. You need to work on that some more." She winked at Jake who in turn blushed even harder. Josh looked at Jake and asked "What happened? You were looking to be in a happy mood not minutes ago, what would be embarr..." He paused mid sentence and fit the puzzle together. "What the hell happened last night?" Jake shot straight up and covered his face. "Nothing... nothing happened. I waited for Shawn to get home and we went to sleep, why? Was something supposed to happen?" Cindy glared at Josh and turned off the stove. "No, nothing was supposed to happen last night. We just have some otter who like to dig their noses into other people's business." She shot another angry glare at Josh who in turn shrank back into his chair. "I didn't mean anything, swear!" Randall looked at Jake and smiled. "So how late did y'all stay up last night?" Jake blushed more. "We went to bed as soon as Shawn got back. Why?" "No reason." Randall chuckled to himself a little. Randall, Cindy, and Josh finished their breakfast and went to class leaving Jake alone in the kitchen. He laid back on the couch and turned on the TV. The first thing that popped up was NCIS a criminal drama about navy members. He flipped through the channels until he found nickelodeon. Lucky for him, they were running a SpongeBob marathon. Jake set the remote down and watched TV while he thought. He remembered he had homework he had been assigned from his trigonometry class, so he turned off the TV and went back to his room. He reached his room to find the door locked. He grabbed his pocket to get his keys but didn't feel them. His eyes widened as he had realized he left them on his nightstand. He traveled to the dorms manager to request to be let into his room. The dorm manager asked for his school ID, but he had left it in his wallet, also on his nightstand. The dorm manager told him all he could do now was wait for his roommate to return. "AH geez, what am I gonna do now?" Jake sat outside of his room and waited. A few hours later, Jake saw Shawn appear in the stairwell. Shawn had a puzzled look on his face as if trying to decipher a secret message. Jake jumped up and ran over to Shawn. "I locked myself out of the room." "Why didn't you get the dorm manager to unlock it?" "I left my wallet in there as well." Shawn busted out laughing and opened the door. "It's not funny! I've been sitting here for two hours!" "And whose fault is that?" "... Mine..." Jake crossed his arms and began to pout. "You look so cute when you pout like that." Jake's eyes opened wide. "I look what when I what?" Shawn staggered back and fell back on his bed. "I... I said you look like soup when you're stout like that!" Jake glared into Shawn's soul for a second before he finally looked away. "Sure you did."

"Anyways, what do you want to do for the rest of the day?"

Jake put some town cloths on and sat down on his bed. "Let's go out and roam. Maybe we could go to Johannesburg for a little while?"

Shawn sat up. "Why do you want to go to Johannesburg?"

"Just to see the sights. I have been in Ashton for almost two months now and I still haven't been to Johannesburg. We should go."

Shawn felt his pocket to see if he had his keys. "Yeah, I suppose we can go for a little bit. Traffic might be bad considering the time. It's just about rush hour."

"That'll be fine. If we stall for about an hour then we can miss it."

"Johannesburg doesn't work that way bud, but everything will be fine. Let's be back early so we can get up early for classes tomorrow."

Jake nodded and they left the room.

The next morning again came abruptly. Jake's alarm went off at 06:30 and the two got up and began to get ready. They had their first class at the same time today. They got ready and went down to the kitchen where they met up with Cindy, Randall, and Josh. They all ate breakfast together and all went their separate ways.

Josh had his first swim class of the year. The whole team respected him, being he has been captain for two years already. The pool was nice and cool today. Josh was just swimming around when the coach walked in. The coach, oddly enough, was a lion. He stood about 6'4" and weighed near 170 pounds. He was sleek and toned from swimming his whole life. His name was Alex, but everyone just called him coach.

Coach walked over and sat on the edge of the pool and put his feel in the water. He had an exhausted look.

"What's wrong coach?"

"I was informed this morning that I'm going to be replaced."

"WHAT? Coach, that's... not possible! No one could replace you!"

"Easy Josh, I know it'll be hard, I have to find a new job and everything, but the school is giving me until the end of the semester to get ready."

"This isn't right coach! You can't just give up without a fight! Why are they replacing you?"

"Headmaster said it was time for some change in faculty."

"Coach, you gotta fight for it. Don't give up. We can... we... we can form a rally! Protest the letting go of the faculty. That'll show the Headmaster we don't want a change in faculty."

"Josh, there's nothing we can do at this point. I've worked here for a good 8 years. I got hired right after high school because I was "Just that good". I've had a good run."

Josh stared at Coach Alex with awe. "I can't believe you're giving up. Maybe you're not the best coach for this team." Josh got out of the pool and walked into the showers.

"Oh Josh, I'm so sorry. I... I didn't know how much I meant to you."

Coach Alex stood up and walked into his office. He sat down at his computer and pulled up his email. He entered the Headmaster's address and started typing.

After class, Josh had showered and had an hour before his next class. He went to leave the pool but was blocked by an arm.

"What do you think you're do..."

Josh turned around to see Coach Alex standing there with a huge smile on his face.

"You'll never guess what happened Josh!"

Josh was confused, then it dawned on him. "You're keeping your job?" His face grew with excitement.

"Hell yeah I'm keeping my job! After you said what you did, I worked up the courage to tell the Headmaster how you felt. His reply was along the lines of "I'm glad to hear the students have someone to look up to like you. To take you away from them would be like taking away a concrete foundation. I can't do that to the students."

Josh jumped at Coach Alex and wrapped his arms around him. Coach staggered back and patted Josh on the head. Josh realized what he was doing and quickly let go. He was blushing very hard.

"So what are we gonna do now coach?"

"Same thing we do every year, practice till we're prunes!"

Josh laughed at coach's joke a little harder than he thought. He began coughing.

"Oh dear, are you okay Josh?"

Coach put his hand on Josh's shoulder and started patting his back. Josh got the last bit of cough out and looked up at Coach with a gleam in his eyes.

"I'm fine... now. Thank you Coach."

"All in a days work."

Coach smiled, "I'll see you tomorrow for more practice. Have a good day Josh!"

Josh waved back and turned away to leave. His next class was with Shawn. He had to ask him a question.

Shawn walked into his English comp class to find Josh waving with an open seat next to him. Shawn walked over and sat down.

"Hey Shawn, I have to ask you a question."

"What's up?

"How did you first find out you liked guys?"

Shawn looked at Josh in the eyes."Why do you want to know?"

"I was just curious is all."

"Well, if you must, when I was in high school, my sophomore year, I had a friend named James. He told me one day that he thought I was cute, so I decided I'd humor him and be his pretend boyfriend. After a few weeks, I grew to enjoy the time we spent together in that fake relationship. Another week later, I found myself totally engrossed in it. I liked him and I wanted to be with him. So I told him that. He told me a couple days later his family were moving to New York because his dad got a good job offer. He told me that he valued the time we spent together, but he didn't feel that same way anymore. He lost his spark and I found mine. He went on and got a girlfriend and she became his wife. I told myself after that I didn't want to make it known I was gay if it would push people away from me I cared about."

Josh grabbed Shawn's shoulder and squeezed it. "It's okay bro. We are all here and you don't need to worry about pushing anyone away from you. He was stupid for not seeing what a fantastic guy he had on his hands."

"Thanks, but that story wasn't your objective. I know you have ulterior motifs behind the question. Now what were they?"

"Well, you see... Coach told me earlier that he was gonna be replaced, so I told him he might as well go if he's just gonna give up. He told the Headmaster how I felt and the Headmaster changed his mind. I was so happy that he was staying I just lept at him and hugged him. I don't know what came over me, I was just so excited he was staying I couldn't help myself."

"Well, that could be a few things. You probably just respect the man a lot and didn't want to see him leave. It's not an odd thing."

"Oh, I see. Well thanks for that."

"No problem buddy. But yeah, don't assume you're gay because you miss a guy. That doesn't mean you're in love."

"Alright, I knew I could count on you."

Shawn and Josh pulled out their notebooks and got ready for class to begin. An hour later the bell rang and the class was let out. Josh went back to his room because he had another hour before his next class. Shawn's next class was computer programming. Shawn found a particular interest in this class, maybe it was just because it was his only class with Jake.
