Chapter Six: Split, Part Two

Basil glowed and his body changed as he landed on the cold hard ground. His body complex collapsed and two balls separated; the nuclear reaction keeping him together halted and he was separated into two separate entities. One a shark landed on the ground and rolled away. The other a dragon, seemed to be in control as it stood up.

"Come on really, how many times do you need to roll yourself on the ground in one life time?" The blue scaled dragon asked as he walked forward and put his hand down. The shark grabbed the dragon's hand and pulled him down onto the ground. The dragon groaned as he was pulled down to the ground.

"It's never enough, come on have some fun for once, be adventurous." The shark said, his face shifting into disappointing as the dragon stood up and dusted his longcoat off. The shark stood up, laughing at the dragons upstandishness. He walked it off and kept a smiling face as he looked around.

"Huh, well look at this alien planet; based on stars position we're somewhere in the inner solar system, maybe Deierina or Albion." The shark said as he looked around in the sky and saw the stars, how bright the motherstar was in the sky.

"Really, ok maybe we're in the inner solar system or not but don't forget what we did; Matthew is literally less than three yards away from Ingram right now, he literally only needs to disable him and they could take him away." The dragon said as he tried to keep focused on the situation at hand. The shark's face stood the same as he looked at the dragon with a look of laughter.

"So what? Ingram won't dare to touch Matthew. Ingram is frightened of us; he knows there is all the possibility of us returning and so long as he believes we can return he won't lay a finger on Matthew." The shark said as he laughed a bit imagining the two trying to figure out what was happening. "Now then, we should probably figure this out, we should figure this out, we should figure this out..."

"Oh look you already forgotten, wait a second we both forgot; Basil and our codenames got in too our minds; ok we need new names, and I really liked the old ones, even if I can't remember them." The dragon said as he thought for a second and then his mind clicked in a bit. "Ok, I'm Pesto and you are Cilantro; let's keep it clean; this is both who we are now."

"How long has it been since we've been like this, Pesto and Cilantro separated again. Think of all the things we can do again now that's we've been separated, we can have a lot of fun now." Cilantro said as the shark lipped his lips and waved his finger over at Pesto, the dragon rolling his eyes again.

"Seriously, we haven't been de-fused since we were like fourteen, apparently you've grown a bit since we last fused; but let me tell you I am liking the post puberty body." Pesto said as he walked forward and put his arms around the shark's neck. Pulling himself in, he passionately made out with Cilantro as the twos lips mixed for what felt like the first time. Pulling away Cilantro looked confused. "Ok, we can work on that."

"Ok, good now then; problem we still don't know what we want to do; we need to fight for Terra Nova, go north; don't be so apprehensive." Cilantro said as the shark bounced his fists off his metallic vest and it made a ringing noise. Pesto rolled his eyes trying to ignore the shark's wild idea and stupid plan that he kept suggesting.

"Ok come on we need to focus on the situation what is the quickest way off this planet; preferably on some sort of ship. Do humor me what kind of transportation does this planet have." Pesto asked as he looked around, the sky was dyed a masterful dark blue and for miles and miles the hills seemed to extend in the sky.

Cilantro looked around as he tried to remember details from his training. They weren't on Albion, if we were on that planet for more than twenty minutes then we'd start to burn up; and we aren't on Benzo. If we are on Benzo, well than we would have no atmosphere and couldn't breathe." Cilantro said as he looked around and tried to figure out the planet. The ground was hard and didn't have any dirt so they weren't in the swamplands of Terraona Prime.

"Ok, we are on Deierina; the only people and transportation are underground near the center mining gold with Primetroopers guarding them so and there are at least two hundred kilometers of ground in between us and them." Cilantro said as he put his hand on the ground and released a blast of energy. The ground barely moved under his slight blast. "Oh yeah, my energy is normalized now."

"Yeah, Basil kind of became a handicap between us and now we're going to be useless over-estimating ourselves while we try to escape from here." Pesto said releasing an energy blast of similar caliber and barely made an impact in the ground. And this he moved away from the ground and tried to rethink his new plan.

"Ok, maybe we can still fly; in a thin enough atmosphere you might be able to lift us to a place where we can fly away." Cilantro said as Pesto gave him an apprehensive look and raised his eyebrow. The dragon flapped his wings and tried to raise himself up into the air but failed as the air lifting failed. "Ok, that is not going to work at all; we are completely trapped on this planet."

"Well then, okay let's move away from that." Cilantro said as he hoped that switching subjects would work and they might be able to come up with some sort of better plan. Pesto looked forward as he tried to figure what Cilantro was trying to play with him, was he holding some sort of grudge against him.

"What are you saying? Are you implying that we were going to defuse had Ingram not stabbed us." Pesto said taking offence to what Cilantro said. His face shifted as he reached down to the rigid stone on his neck. He held it in his hand and made sure that Cilantro could see the stone that was still glowing.

"What, just because you have this stupid little resistance plan, doesn't mean I can't have my own ideas; you know just sail up to the capital and ride it out; we're not idiots we can figure it out from there." Cilantro said as he put his hand and imitated a sailing motion while Pesto rolled his eyes.

"Listen, it's not that. Our necklace only glows when we don't agree now then; maybe we should refuse already and we can just work it all out; we form or find the resistance and sail northwards from there." Pesto said as he tried to imitate Cilantro and make a wave form in the air. Cilantro laughed at him as his hand glowed.

"What you think I caused this; what are you thinking about this. Come on we just need to agree on something for once; then we can re-fuse back into Basil and with our combined minds and then we can figure it out." Pesto said as he flapped his wings and walked forward. Cilantro looked at him and the shark backed up.

"No stay away from me!" Cilantro put his hand forward and a tiny beam of energy exited his hand. Pesto screamed as his shoulder was blasted; he was knocked back into the sand and looked as Cilantro looked disturbed, he was finally forcing the shark's hand and the shark didn't like it.

"Oh come on, I didn't mean it come back!" Pesto said standing up and dusting himself off again. He looked as Cilantro walked off in the opposite direction. He threw his wings out and flapped the dust away from him. Looking down on the ground he fired a blast on the ground and rolled his eyes.

"Cilantro, come on. We need to do something fast, the maker only knows how far from Terraona Alpha Ingram and Matthew have managed to fly away now!" Pesto said trying to convince his other half that they needed to combine again in order to save Matthew. Cilantro turned around and gave Pesto a symbol informally known as the bird.

"Ok, now that was kind of mean! You don't have to be that offensive; really it's so simple just fuse with me and all of our problems will be solved!" Pesto said as he presented himself as the all in one solution to their problems. Cilantro raised his finger again and Pesto continued to roll his eyes. "Really, you're being real mature right now."

...

"How are the subjects now, are they both calm?" A man in a white lab coat said as he swayed from side to side, and made sure he was checking nearly all of the appropriate boxes in his sheet form. He pulled the pen off his paper and stuck the cap in his mouth, biting on it as he looked past the camera feed and instead into the room below him.

The two doors to the side slid open and behind them two children were pushed in; well more of forcefully dragged in by their two care providers. The scientist looked down and made sure the perception field was still working; typing in a code into his console he made sure that the children were seeing the right images. He signed that check box off.

"Bring the two in, make sure that they're comfortable. This test is all about seeing if we can establish a safe and secure relationship between the two; make sure they don't hit each other and that their necklaces don't touch." The scientist said as he checked the safety warning box and made sure that the two assistants wouldn't do anything beyond stupid. He rolled his eyes and checked another box of his list.

The shark and the dragon were put into their room, looking around and at each other as they examined their surroundings. The shark could barely stand and seemed to be more focused on escaping the area. Maybe he was focused on returning to his hometown. The scientist kept a watchful eye before turning to the next point of contention.

"Prepare orbital transport and find them a town to live; prepare the adoptive families and make sure they are close; keep these two in close contact." The scientist said as he adjusted his lab coat and checked the next box, for a moment he felt tempted to lean down and say something to them.

The shark fell on his bottom and grabbed a block from the floor. He placed it in his mouth and the dragon seemed to notice. The dragon walked forward and leaned on the floor as it reached into the shark's mouth and pulled the block out of his mouth. Pesto landed on the floor as he threw the block away, suddenly a spark of electricity ran between them.

It connected their rigid necklace on their necks and they started to glow. The necklaces were connected and the scientist checked off another box from his seemingly expansive list. Rolling his eyes, the scientist turned away and checked the camera feed again, his interns started up the orbital drop ship and he wondered where the computer had selected to place the two.

It was on Terraona Alpha, as he had selected from the computer. Some location near the border; some place near the newly built wall. It was perfect so close to their enemy territory and maybe the strange and horrible environment of the area would make for his perfect warrior. He saw the ship activated and it floated off the ground.

The dragon spread his wings and easily he flapped off the ground, being in orbit with a weakened gravity generator help though. He flew through the air and landed onto of Cilantro's head. The shark seemed to have no problems with the Pesto on top of his head and seemed to enjoy it.

Pesto slipped and landed on top of Cilantro. The shark nearly slobbered as the dragon placed his arms on his face. They both finally fell to the ground and the glowing in their necklaces decreased. The attendant looked down and smiled as he pushed out his shoulders and cracked them.

"So then how are the copies working?" Someone asked, grabbing the scientist's shoulder and instead of snapping his neck or disabling him instead started to rub them. The scientist groaned as he cracked his spine and enjoyed the sound of doing so. He checked off another box from the list.

"Oh it all good, but how has your day been?" The scientist said as he turned back against the console and wrapped his arm around his lover. Pulling the komodo dragon in the dragon spread his wings as they passionately kissed on the console, causing got knows what kind of problems in the room.

"You know pretty good but President Asher wants to see us, something about a progress report."

"Well progress is pretty good right now."

...

"Ok, now then Matthew you need to come with me; I'm not going to touch you at all I feel like that might break something important between us." Ingram said as he sat down on the edge of fountain, the water spilled out by now and the hot sun surely evaporating the water into the air. Ingram saw Matthew grab the fusion sword and splashed it into water. He smiled as he grabbed a piece of cloth and wiped Basil's blood off the blade.

"Oh really come on like your and Basil's journey is going to last forever kid, summer can't last forever, autumn must rise and winter must come." Ingram said as he held up the sword and made sure that Ingram was going to stay at a workable distance. Matthew laughed at him and twisted the sword in his hand, he jutted it forward nearly causing Ingram to fall into the pool of water.

"Really you think I'm just going to come with you willingly, you must be really stupid if you think that will ever happen." Matthew said as he dropped the piece of cloth and stuck. He remembered his teaching on the art of swordplay and sliced around as Ingram dodged the hollow blade. Ingram jumped up and landed on top of the fountain standing and eclipsing the sun.

"No I don't think you're going to come with me and I am not going to lay a finger on you, I know what Basil will do if he manages to come back here." Ingram said as he jumped back down, too humble to stand on top of the fountain and be a massive show off. Ingram groaned as he was dissatisfied with Matthew's apprehensiveness.

"And if I were to say walk away from this area, and attempt to never see you again?" Matthew asked as he jumped up, and without hesitation started his well-planned out escape plan. Ingram groaned as he jumped off the edge of the drained fountain and started to follow Matthew. The citizens looked out as Ingram tried to convince Matthew to instead tag along with him.

"It's not that simple, you'll need water or maybe money for food at some point and then when you snap I'll be there waiting for you to accept my help and come with me." Ingram said as he started the intense and mental task of keeping track and making sure that the wolf would stay careful in the massive city.

He looked as Matthew weaved in between the crowds trying to disappear from Ingram's point of view. Ingram pushed through the crowd, returning to the fountain looking to satisfy their morbid curiosity see the damage, and attempted to make chase on Matthew. The wolf was crafty, his plain bland clothes made it hard to keep track of and ducking and waving through the crowd. Ingram walked forward, pushing himself between the people.

"Matthew you can't run forever, one day your journey will end and I will be there, just you wait! Just you wait!"

...

"Everyone hold on, we've lost BL-102's signal where in hell did that idiot teleport him to?" Grand Asher Drake said as he looked down from the orbital camera. He zoomed it the fountain and rewound it as he tried to pin point where Basil went, his assistant took over and placed the tape right on the moment before the shark fell in.

"Good, someone examine that image and prepare an orbital ship; we need to recapture Basil, someone else monitor Matthew and make sure he doesn't get too far of course." The dragon said as he walked away from his panel, leaving his lovey assistant to monitor the progress of Matthew as he walked away from Ingram.

"He has to be in the inner solar system or else Ingram would have left the system, see if Basil's tracking beacon is still active; after that prepare a warp teleportation make sure that where ever the hell he is he can be returned to this spaceship like nothing; prepare another forcefield cell and make sure that this time he cannot escape from it!" Grand Asher said to the two soldiers walking beside him as they diverted from the path way and went off to accomplish the task they were given.

"Ok, now then Basil, Matthew; today tomorrow, Wednesday or Saturday, any day soon you two will be captured and I will make sure that you two stay in your rightful place." The Grand Asher said walking away.

...

Cilantro looked away from Pesto as he walked off alone, the dragon was being stupid. He'd find a way to escape the planet on his own and then show off to the dragon and let them both escape. He smiled knowing that it probably be easy as pie. He kept his normally wide open mouth closed as he walked forward into the dust and sand that was being wiped up by a layer of wind that passed by him.

Pesto was obviously the cause of why they spilt into their base forms. He didn't like to admit to himself but there were problems. At first Pesto hated being taken from his high ranked job as a hybrid trooper but now Pesto seemingly took over everything and was trying to act like he could micromanage every single person on the planet.

He felt on his back, he at least had the semi-completed fusion blade; it was lighter without the hollow sword and without that final piece the sword had basically lost all of its effectiveness. The sword lightly pulled down on his back and jumping up the shark, Cilantro, felt that he was on a planet lighter than Terraona Alpha. At least the heavy fusion sword wouldn't hold him back.

He looked forward the land looked like it could go on for miles and miles; hidden details could stay hidden between the large mountains and who knew what was on top of all the mountains. He looked around and above him the clouds moved around and he wondered if they would rain on his little parade.

Walking forward he saw the first valley he would have to travel between. If he remembered rightly then Deierina was the least explored of all five planets in the system. Impacted massively by the scatter cloud, any chance life had to develop was instead replaced by massive deposits of gold and other valuable materials under the ground.

...

Pesto perhaps in anger or in horrible defiance seemed determined to walk off in the opposite direction and separate himself as much as it would be possible from that idiot shark. Cilantro was acting so bull headed as always, his plan was fool proof; they needed the resources that an army would provide a marching army would strike fear into the solders of Terra Nova and then they could easily take back the capital.

He rolled his eyes and folded his wings back in as he looked trying to figure how long he would have until Cilantro decided that their relationship and keeping their Basil persona alive would be far more important than a stupid improvised plan that stupid marched right into the gun sights of their enemies.

He shook off his duster again and reached into his pocket; he only had his normal will conducting powers, he figured that Cilantro got the weapon, he was always the better at melee combat, Basil's magic energy skills came from him mostly, both of them trained so that their skills would be increases exponentially but neither could get the others.

Rolling his eyes, Pesto put his foot against the ground and started to kick. The dirt flew as he tried to figure out how far below the planet the gold mines were. They wouldn't just rely on just teleportation, what kind of idiots would trap themselves below the ground without a backup system.

The ground suddenly opened up and he was pulled into the ground as the stone and layers of ground collapsed beneath him. The ground pulled him in and under, Pesto screamed spreading out his wings and trying to catch some air as he fell to the ground. He landed with a thump, he was pretty sure that he wasn't dead but he wasn't sure he'd stay alive either.

He groaned as he stood up, feeling his bones creak, snap back in to their rightful place and crack. Shaking himself off and once again dusting off his longcoat, he swore it was going to be worn beyond all hell when they were done, he looked around. There was a tiny peak of light above him and looking through he didn't think he would be able to fight through. So instead he put out his hand.

Focusing his will, he felt it exit out his hand and a bluish-white flame form on his hand. It was only a spell, zero percent fire, instead it was the most efficient of all his spells one that would turn one hundred percent of his energy into pure light. Sadly it seemed that he had less power than he even thought. The blue light only dully lit up the walls around him.

Groaning he walked forward towards the wall and tried to see if he could pull a Matthew and navigate himself through a series of caves and find a way back to the surface. Spreading his wings, he started to vigorous flap not like before when he convinced Cilantro he couldn't fly but like a real dragon. However it only seemed he was able to barely peak off the ground, he put his wings again and tried to rethink his approach. Sitting down with his efficient little flame he looked around and started to think.

He walked around the cave trying to think of a better idea than, "hope in my default form, I'll have enough energy to blast more holes in the ground. "; looking up he wondered if his energy would even last as long as it needed to. He placed his hand upwards and fired, the energy streaked to the top of the cave and barely made an impact in the rubble.

Feeling glad to finally be in the shade, Pesto gave on managing to blast through the ceiling and realized that someone, anybody would come eventually. Deciding to converse his energy and hope that someone would come for him, he closes his eyes and decided to doze off.

...

Cilantro continued forth further into the mountains and by that he realized he was only half way into the first valley and he had already wasted twenty or maybe thirty minutes. Taking a breath, he realized something that was different. The difference was on the sides of his neck, something that was like a series of flaps of his neck. He remembered that he had gills.

Basil didn't have gills, he breathed pure air but as Cilantro stopped in the middle of the valley he realized that he breathed vaporized air, the lake and springs of his town evaporated enough that he never needed to remember and there was always moisture in the air on Terraona Prime. However, he was always Basil when he explored waterless locations.

Putting his hand up to his gills, he felt that they and his skin were being coming dry at a very alarming rate. Deierina, the second planet of the system and has zero water on its surface, zilch, cero, absolutely none. Reminding himself of that fact and wondering how long he could survive before he presumably choked on air, and fell over he looked back behind him.

Suddenly an eternity with Pesto and them arguing was starting to look a whole lot better than dying because he didn't breathe properly. He tried to prove himself and his ideal; he didn't need water to continuing breathing, which would be at least what he told himself. Staying still for a second he wondered back to that night when they were fourteen, all alone and for once they admitted their love.

Cilantro guessed it started off as a strange friendship; Pesto kept him in check and he kept Pesto from annoying everybody. It only escalated from there, they once worked in sync as Basil, they were the greatest fighting fusion on the hybridtrooper; witch was too say he was the first and trained ahead. The program got more efficient and he was happy where he was.

Walking forward Cilantro stopped as he took a breath and as he felt the pain wreak down his neck he knew that he wasn't going to last longer. He remembered that he and Pesto were made for each other; they were nothing but pawns in a thousand year game and in that sense they were designed to stay with each other they were meant to build off each other and work together.

Cilantro realized that maybe they weren't in love with each other or maybe they were and simply didn't know that they were. Cilantro needed to be back with Pesto because they needed to work together and they needed to be with each other to survive together. He felt dust in his throat, some of it passing through his gills and into his throat.

He walked forward and knew that he would have to push himself forward in order to continue. He needed to get back to Pesto; he wanted and needed to get to Pesto. He wanted to be with Pesto again and with that determination he had a reason to continue on. Turning back on everything he had said to Pesto he turned back on his ideas of love and need; and in that moment he knew maybe they were both wrong and maybe they both needed each other.

And after running for what seemed like a really long time he came back to where they entered the planet, scorch marks on the ground and two sets of footprints going off in different directions. He was going to meet Pesto more than half way on this, he ran forward hoping that he could only catch up with the dragon.

And then the shark felt a pothole in the ground below him; before he could react or do anything he sunk into the ground; the stone and rumble collapsing underneath him. He fell to the ground but instead of hitting his back against the cold stone ground someone caught him, he looked over and of course it was Pesto.

"Well look who decided to come running back over here, back to me." Pesto said seemingly sarcastically as he slid Cilantro out of his hands and let the shark stand on his own. Cilantro laughed ignoring the rather mean comment but he decided to let the dragon have one for today. Pesto put his hand out and his face morphed into seriousness as he felt Cilantro's gills.

"I'm sorry, I forgot I needed to breathe." The shark said as his gills started to clog up and his throat started to dry. Pesto looked around, more rubble collapsed into the hole around them but Cilantro started to fall over, a red blinking light filled with artifacts engulfed them. Pesto knew this was the light of teleportation and if he was able to focus his energy enough them he might be able to reroute them.

...

Pesto held onto Cilantro as they teleported. They were being dragged through a series of warp gates; keeping the teleportation connection stable as they passed a far distance. And as they stopped and were reformed, Pesto released a wave of energy knocking them off course and if he was lucky back to the planet. Sadly it seemed they landed in the space station.

They weren't in the teleportation room so they landed a bit of course but that be good, however they needed to teleport off the station again in order to get to Matthew quick enough. Cilantro coughed as the moisture in the space station's air entered his lungs and freed him.

"Well, well, well; it looks to me like you took more of beating from Ingram then I though he was possible off." Grand Asher Drake said as he stood up and looked at the two teenagers that teleported into his control room. "You are weak compared to Basil, you are tiny compared to Basil, you two are nothing compared to Basil!"

"If that is what you really think then that is going to be your downfall, compare this!" Pesto said as he put his hand forward and fired a blast of energy. Grand Asher Drake was knocked off his feet and into his chair, which then collapsed on itself. The dragon screamed as the soldiers took aim, quickly Cilantro got up and clicked a button on the nearby control panel, raising a forcefield around the room blocking the soldiers off and keeping them safe.

"Ok, now then let's see how quickly all you can get to an escape pod, Cilantro you have that secondary teleportation system working?" Pesto said as he and the shark worked in sync, the shark smiling as he flipped a few switches and made sure that everything would be working for their explosive finale.

"Now then Grand Asher Drake, we're a bit tired of playing with you. You're getting a bit boring and now were going off into Terra Nova without you, enjoy you impure death." Pesto said as he spun around and clicked around the button. Cilantro clicked his button and red alarms flashed on the ceiling.

Cilantro turned towards Pesto and they embraced, turning into a singular white glow as they combined and were engulfed in red artifacts.

...

"Come with me." Ingram said as he tried unsuccessfully for the five hundredth time to convince Matthew to drop his plans and allow him to take him to the stars. Matthew gave him a look as the wolf figured five hundred times was enough and tried to skirt around Ingram who was currently blocking his path with a wall of energy.

And then a red glowing light appeared; Basil was summoned to the battlefield as if the maker himself had summoned him. Basil stood up and laughed a bit, the shark seemed different. He had a bit more dragon in him, his skin was a bit more silver-ish and his horns were elongated, his wings seemed magnificent and he seemed taller somehow.

The shark seemed calmer and more at peace, he had a rigid rock like necklace, the one that facilitated fusion. He walked forward and next to Matthew, Ingram examining him as the shark appeared again. Basil laughed again, and put his hand up his hand glowed and his normal blue energy appeared again. Ingram stood up and seemed to be ready to infect Basil's energy.

"Well look who decided to come back, you seem renewed now. So you must have re-fused, set your system back in balance. You're a little more powerful and now you'd be a much more interesting battle." Ingram said as he flapped down to the ground and landed in front of Matthew and Basil. Matthew handed Basil the hollow sword and the shark dragon completed the sword on his back.

"No, you're going to run away; give it a few seconds and you'll find that you'll have nowhere else to run. This world is not meant for you, return to Terraona Prime and tell Asher that we will be coming for him." Basil said as he threw down the energy ball and as it hit the ground it bounced off splitting into thousands of tiny beams all striking Ingram, and pushing him out of the Acropolis.

"Well then, he not stupid enough to come back now; return to capital one way or another and I will follow you, act smart and do not be stupid and we might just survive, but always have fun." Basil said as they turned back and worked on making their way towards the capital. And as they passed through the gate, paying the fee with their collected coins and making their way to Terra Nova they knew the first half of their journey had come to its end.

...

"Wow, now this is how sand should feel." Matthew said as he stepped out the final gate and with his last he had finally crossed the wall. He felt the sand of Terra Nova pass between his feet and he could see towns in the distance, surely one of the warriors there would be willing to join him and travel with him.

"Well then Mr. Basil, surely we must get on our way." Matthew said as he walked forward, Basil forming an umbrella and holding it over their heads. Shaded from the sun, and their journey half way finished, they continued on hoping that the second half of their journey would be a little less eventful.

"Yes, I would say so. Let me tell you a story, a story of a dragon and a shark designed for each other and how they overcame the odds and managed to get to explore this world." Basil said as they walked forward, their foot prints in the sand getting blown away and leaving no trace of them. Who knew maybe in a thousand years or so no one would know their names but they would all be affected by Basil and Matthew's stories.
