#40 of A Fox Behind Bars

Part 40!!!! That's 10 away from 50... or halfway to 80... or seven away from 47. Numbers

This one picks up from the last, as our hero(?) Elliot Regal tries to put Vince's convoluted plan to out the panda snitch and pester Piter. Will our intrepid fox be up to the task after what happened in the last chapter? Let's find out!

Sorry this one took so long. I will really try to write faster. If you have any comments, criticisms or suggestions that would improve your enjoyment, let me know. (I love it when peeps are enjoying what they read )

40.

I crumpled up my fourth sheet of paper. This wasn't going to work. I could barely remember the illegible crap Vince wrote down and outside of a few customers, I didn't know anyone's name. And now my pen was out of ink! Having to eat the note Vince gave me to set up Piter left me with two options: write a new one myself, or go back to the wolf for another copy. You have no idea how bad the note was! It would have been traced right back to him, burning all those around him- myself included. I would be out of what little protection he was able to give me. Piter would own my ass whenever I was out of Dimitri's cell.

My fingertips started feeling numb. I tried to flex them and ended up dropping the useless pen. Oh God, the air was getting thicker. Too thick to suck down.

"Pet." Dimitri's deep voice cut through the panic. I looked up at him from my corner, my eyes refused to focus and I was trembling too much to speak without worrying I'd bite off my tongue. "You look like shit," he said matter-of-factly.

"S-s-sorry," I shivered.

He swung his legs off his bunk, pausing to tuck in his firehose cock that he'd left flopping about after having me suck it when we got back after the cellblock search. He stood up and I pressed my back harder into the wall as he approached. My fur was bristling and I could feel his cum drying on my muzzle.

"I'm sorry, sir! I'm sorry." What had I done? He said I looked like shit. I readied to beg him to let me wash my face. I usually did what I could to hide the evidence of what he did to me, but I was so scared about what would happen if I didn't have that letter in Herb's fat paws before I saw Vince tomorrow that I didn't bother with it.

"Hey," he put his hand out and squatted down in front of me. "Pup. You need to calm down." It was an order, but he didn't make it sound threatening. Maybe I wasn't in trouble.

"Sorry," I kept saying between gasps of the thin air.

"I'm calling this off. Vince can go fuck himself." He put his hand against my face and I nuzzled into it, partly because it was he wanted, and now partly because it's what I wanted. Dimitri was safety right now. I wanted him to stay like that.

"Sir?" I said into his palm. "I c-can't do it." His thumb brushed under my eye and I could feel the tears. "I'm sorry I ever tried," no reverse psychology tricks. I really did wish I'd kept my mouth shut. His thumb wiped away a tear and a look of pity came over him.

"Go wash your face," Dimitri ordered.

I crawled over to the toilet before standing. It was time accept my place. No more Elliot Regal. Just Pet, and sometimes Bitch. The cool water washed away the tears and cum. Maybe this was all for the best...

"Let's go." Dimitri stood by the cell door. I hurried after him as he left.

"Where are we going, sir?"

"To fix your mess."

I did not like the sound of that. I thought Dimitri was going to kill Herb. I couldn't say anything, though, not just because my throat felt like it was closing up, but because Dimitri walked right past the panda's cell. We went down the stairs to the common area. Straight for the feline table.

Sanders was playing checkers with a lynx. Dimitri stopped me a few feet away. "Stand here until I call you," he commanded over his shoulder.

I stayed, like a good pet, nervously trying not to attract attention while out in the open. Dimitri talked with the lion, occasionally nodding his head in my direction. I should have hated being talked about like I was a piece of property, but I was in so far over my head that I couldn't care. I looked down at the my shoes, noticing how grass stained they'd gotten. Funny, what your mind picks up on in stressful situations.

"Bitch," someone snarled and shouldered me out of the way.

I stumbled a few steps and held my arm where it hurt. The lynx that was just playing checkers shot me a mean look, grabbing at his crotch as he backed away toward the cells. I looked over at Dimitri, wondering what I did, but he was still talking with Sanders. The lynx turned his back on me and entered a cell, leaving me to wonder.

"Pet!" Dimitri's hard voice carried well in here. I dropped my ears in embarrassment and hurried over to the table.

"Yes, sir?" I said meekly.

"I talked to Sanders. He's going to help you."

My tail wagged, but then reality sank in. "H-how?"

Sanders patted the seat to his right. I looked at Dimitri for the nod that I could sit. God, I hate myself. Sanders talked low, keeping an eye on the wolf that was on guard duty, standing on the other side of the cellblock. "Dimitri says you were having some kind of panic attack over a letter?"

He made it sound so accurately pathetic. I couldn't look him in the eye as I told him everything. It was almost funny that Vince would have skinned me alive for talking with a lion about Pack business. Even stranger to think this was probably the most interspecies cooperation the prison has ever seen.

He stroked his chin thoughtfully. "Not a bad plan, Regal. So what you need is a pen, a few names and some dirt."

"Yes, sir," I said softly. He cleared his throat and quirked an eyebrow. "Oh, sorry. Yes, Sanders." Despite the undeniable gap in our social standings, he didn't like to draw attention to it.

He was quiet for a moment before nodding. "Ok. Let's do this." He stood up. "Wait here. I'm gonna get something to write with."

"Here?" I looked at the guard and Piter.

"Fuck 'em. Stupid dogs wouldn't notice even if we told them we were doing it... Uh, no offense to you." He started toward his cell.

I felt my lips begin to curl into a smile. The tightness in my chest started to ease. Maybe this was all going to be ok.

"He's not doing this for free," Dimitri's rumble knocked down my momentary optimism like he could read my mind. "I told him he could have you for the rest of the day after you're finished."

"Oh... "

"Don't give me that look. Never get yourself in debt to anyone in here. If you aren't strong enough to take what you want - which you aren't - or rich enough to barter for it - which you aren't - then you have to fuck for it." He folded his arms. "It's the rules."

Another pearl of wisdom from the tiger. It could be worse. At least Sanders was nice to me. I felt a little guilty because I was still hoping he'd find a way to get with Jake, but out of all the cocks I had to take, his was one of the ones I was cool with.

Sanders came back with two pens and some blank paper. He helped me script a list of names and a few of Piter's actual criminal enterprise to put the guards on a trail. While I copied our rough outline into untraceable block lettering I glanced at Dimitri. He was watching the flatscreen, mouthing the words to the memorized sitcom playing. Part of me wanted to tell him to watch the subtitles and see if he could read some of the words... But of course the sane part of me knew that if I brought it up out here he would end me.

"That's it," Sanders announced after I gave him the fake letter to double check. "Now all you have to do is get Herb to take the bait."

My shoulders slumped, but this was the easy part after the hell I went through with the letter.

Dimitri turned his head. "Go straight to Sanders' cell when you're done, pup. And do whatever he tells you. And I mean whatever. I'm going to ask him how you behaved tomorrow and you better get a positive report." He glared at me, making sure I was clear.

"Yes, sir."

He stood up and stretched. "I'm going. I don't want to see that panda kick your ass."

I slid the pen I was using back to Sanders who was gathering up the papers he needed to get rid of. "Keep it," he said.

"R-really?" I spun toward Dimitri. "Can I? Please? My pen is out of ink... I'd really like one." I wasn't above using my puppydog eyes. I need some form of creative outlet. It was keeping me as sane as I was.

"Fuck, D.," Sanders chuckled. "You make Regal beg to keep a pen?"

I felt my face flush. Dimitri's eyes flitted between the two of us, processing the situation. "I don't like my cell cluttered," he said with less certainty than I'd heard from him in a long time. "Besides, I didn't say he couldn't have it... He never said he needed a new one." His gaze fell on me like I was in the wrong.

"It just ran out of ink today! I didn't mean-"

Dimitri held up his hand, looked like he was about to say something, then just shook his head. "Give me the pen. I'll put it with your stuff." I tried to thank him but he just shushed me.

I stayed sitting, eyes down, until I was sure he'd left. "Um... Sanders?"

"Yeah?" he said as he picked up the last paper from the table.

"Thank you."

He smiled down at me and smoothed back his already slick mane. "Well, you're pretty cool for a fox... Are you going to need any help getting the letter in there," he jerked his head in the direction of Herb's cell.

Yes, I wanted to say. Do it for me, please. But Dimitri's voice was in the back of my head. Don't get into debt. "I think I can manage." No idea how.

He eyed me a little skeptically. "If you say so. I'll be in my cell if you do end up needing me." He started to walk, then stopped. "Regal. Try not to get hurt. Herb's a pussy, but he's a big pussy and you're..." I'm sure he was to polite to to say short, skinny pussy.

"I know. I'll be ok." The second Dimitri and Sanders were gone I could see a few of the other felines staring at me. I was just another canine to them and sitting at the wrong table was not something they were willing to tolerate. I jumped up and jogged to the stairs, folding the letter and trying to figure out what I was going to do with it.

Herb's cell was in the middle of the block, the area turned into an unofficial gathering point for the species that lack the clout to take a table. Last time I had a run in with Herb he was trying to buy their loyalty with his dad's money. Right now there were six furs leaning on the railing, looking down at the common area. I walked towards them slowly, every muscle tensed and ready to flee at the slightest hint danger. A kangaroo and buck eyed me warily, but because of Dimitri's reputation, I think I was safe. I watched them out of the corner of my eye. What the hell am I doing? I asked myself as I slowed down to a near stop. My nerves collapsed at the last second and I hurried past.

A couple cells down was Jake's. I slipped inside. His cellmate looked up from his book, swearing. I tried to explain myself. "Sorry. I'm just here to see Jake. I promise I won't be long. I'll even be quiet." But convinced I was nothing but trouble, the possum did what he always did. He left. I'll let myself feel guilty after I'm done with Herb.

"Jake?" I knelt next to his bunk. "Jake?" He was laying on his stomach with the blanket pulled over his head. I touched his arm. "Ja-"

He jerked away, slamming himself against the wall and struggling to pull off his covers. "What the fuck!" He was breathing hard. "Goddamit, Regal." He rubbed at his back. "That fucking hurt."

"Sorry! I really didn't mean to scare you." I winced, remembering the scabs from the long cuts on his back. That had to hurt when he twisted like that.

"Why are you here?"

"I- I was going to get Herb to take the letter... but I chickened out and came in here to say, hi... Um, hi."

Jake snarled at me. "How the hell is that my problem? I told you it was a stupid idea, now fuck off and do whatever you want." He buried his head in his pillow and pulled the covers back up.

"Fuck you, Jake." I stood back up. If this asshole wouldn't even spare a kind word, he can go screw himself. "So much for vulpine solidarity," I said as I stormed out to do what I had to. I don't need him. I can do this on my own.

***

"I need to see Herb." I kept my back straight, looking the roo right in his eyes.

He tried to stare me down but when I didn't yield he looked at the buck. "Tell fat-ass there's a fox that wants to see him."

"Needs to." I dared to correct. "Pack business."

They looked at me again before the roo gave the buck a nod. I tried not to let my relief show. And the flimsy loyalty Herb's goons seemed to have for him was a good sign, right? I mean, they wouldn't risk killing me just for the panda's money... I hoped.

The buck came out of the cell and jerked his thumb over his shoulder. Time for a new act. Drop the confidence, be vulnerable, let him think you don't know what you're doing. It was an act a lot closer to reality. Showtime, Regal.

"You!" Herb growled the second he saw me. Two of his fingers were still in splints, another was wrapped in a bandage. The big panda lifted himself off the bunk.

"H-herb, p-please, sir! I'm here on pack business." He lumbered toward me, I purposefully backed myself into the corner, trapped between concrete, bars and a pissed panda. I reached into my pocket and took out the letter, sinking lower. "Piter! He said I had to collect some of these debts or, or he'd hurt me. Real bad!" The tears were real. His good hand grabbed a fist full of my hair.

"Roy. Hold this fag."

His cellmate, the bear who'd been watching the television Herb paid for, stood up. He took one look at me and hesitated. "Fuck, boss. That's that slut that belongs to Dimitri... Remember what happened last time you fucked with him?"

Herb knocked my head against the wall, pulling my hair.

"Ow!" I held onto his hand, trying to keep him from ripping my hair out as he yanked my head around. "Stop! I have to get you to pay, or Piter will punish me."

"I don't owe that fucker anything." He glared at his cellmate. "I mean it, Roy. Hold him or else."

The bear rolled his eyes but started toward us. I hurried to set the bait before he could get to me. "Herb! Y-you do owe him! It's in his note. He's got everyone that owes him for gambling or bought drugs off one of his pack."

"Give me the note."

Jackpot. "No! Piter will kill me if I lose it!" I held it out to him, trembling with fear, but also a sick kind of excitement. He took it from me!

The second the panda released me, the bear was there to take his place. His meaty paw grabbed the back of my shirt, choking me as he kept me on my knees. Herb's big ass waddled over to the small table and stool. It was a marvel of modern engineering that the little seat could support him. I pulled at my collar, struggling to keep from getting strangled as the panda read the note.

"You dumbass. My name isn't in here."

"It isn't?" I feigned surprise.

"God, you foxes are so stupid." He put the letter down and stood up. I was so glad he was keeping it, but now I had to get out of this alive.

"I- I'm sorry. Can I go?" My eyes were darting everywhere, there was no way I could not see his crotch twitch at my pleading. I wasn't getting out of this with my dignity intact.

"You owe me for wasting my time. And for this," he held up his injured hand. He blamed me for it even though Dimitri only broke his fingers because he was going to rape me. I had to keep this from turning violent.

"I can suck your dick! I'm really good at it, just please don't hurt me." He slapped me. Hard. I couldn't brace for it because Roy was nearly hanging me with my own shirt. A copper tang filled my mouth. My tongue found where the inside of my lip split on a tooth. I didn't dare spit. The bastard would have just made me lick it up.

Roy let go of me and I swayed on my knees. "Watch the door," Herb ordered. His hand moved to unzip his fly. My mind went into pure survival mode, crawling forward. Pleasure him and he won't hurt you. It was a lie, but I clung to that lie every time I had to do something like this.

My nostrils flared, assaulted by the rancid smell as he whipped it out. My tongue shot out, lapping at the acrid, salty head.

"See, Roy. Fucking bitches are drawn to it like a magnet," he laughed as I rushed to get this over with.

I'm not sure what disgusted me more, licking his cock, or having to listen to him go on about how many furs he's fucked. I got a taste of his precum and decided licking him won by a hair. Without warning, Herb palmed the back of my head and thrust into my mouth. He hit the back of my throat and I started gagging.

"Don't fight it, baby," he grunted. "This is what you want." The panda's moans made me hope he was having a heart attack, but I wasn't so lucky. He didn't let me suck him so much as he jerked himself off using my mouth. Should have figured his one talent would be masturbating. It took him less than a few minutes of violating my throat before his deep grunts tuned into the wail of a dying parrot. He slammed his hands against my skull, pinning me still as his hips worked to pound his way to a climax.

A thick, hot, salty load jetted over the top of my tongue. I swallowed, the suction pulling out more of Herb's cum. His hands squeezed tighter, hurting my already flattened ears. If he was at all strong, I would have worried he was trying to crush my head, but as it was it only added a dash of pain to my ordeal.

He didn't let go until I felt him begin to soften. Then he pushed me away, still out of breath. I stayed on my knees waiting to be dismissed. It's not like I could have got past the bear blocking the doorway without his permission. When he pointed to the bear then me, I really thought I was done, that he was motioning for Roy to move... But the universe hates me.

"Roy. Put his hand on the table."

The bear wrapped a paw around my neck, cutting off my air as I was pulled over to the cell's table. He grabbed my forearm, pulling it away from where I could claw at his merciless fingers strangling me. It felt like struggling against Dimitri. All my thrashing had no effect. I might as well have been trying to bend the cell bars. His grip on my neck loosened and I sucked down huge gasps of air, coughing and sobbing.

Herb picked up the stool, flipping it so the flat seat was pointed down. "Make him stretch out his fingers."

God, fuck no! The crazy son of a bitch was going to break my fingers. "No! Nonono! Please, no! Y-you can't. I'm an artist!" My sobbing desperate pleas worked for a moment. They stopped what they were doing... Then Herb laughed at me.

"Get him to stick his fingers out."

Roy lifted my arm and slammed it on the table, but there was no way in hell I was unballing my fist. He squeezed hard on my forearm and I shrieked for less than a second before his other hand resumed crushing my throat. Someone had to have heard that scream!

Roy shook my arm violently, wrapping my knuckles against the table over and over.

"Fuck it," Herb's voice echoed in my oxygen deprived ears. "Just hold him steady." My vision faded as he raised the stool over his head.

***

My chest burned like someone poured a bottle of hot sauce into my lungs. I clutched my hand. It... it didn't hurt, I mean it hurt, but it wasn't smashed. My senses started to return. I was on the floor. Voices. Herb... and Jake?

Jake's faint words grew louder. "-not about money... -won't go unpunish-... -elong's to Piter. Let him go now or I run and tell the husky. I'll forget you fucked him without paying, but I have to tell if you hurt him."

Roy spoke. "I fucking said this was a bad idea. Just take him away. Here. He was carrying this. We cool?"

I blinked. The bear was holding out the letter. Fuck. Tell me this hasn't been for nothing. Jake was quiet. I couldn't see him from where I lay. He had to be behind me.

"Piter can't be bribed... but I can. Um... give me that radio and you can keep the paper. I'll say he lost it and Piter will cut his balls off," a sudden kick to my back made me yelp, "if he's lucky."

Herb stopped sulking and stood up from his bunk. "The fuck are you talking about? You tell me I'm dead if I smash that faggot's hand, but you want me to buy the fucking paper?"

"I don't give a shit about what happens to Ellie, but Piter said I couldn't let anyone cripple him. There's no loyalty between me and him. I'm a Pack faggot too and I don't like the competition." Jake kicked me again and I groaned.

Herb started forward. The back of mind screamed, don't step on me! He put his hand out. "I admire an honest bitch." Another step and I heard Jake start scrambling back.

"Don't get any closer. I don't give it away like that cock sucker. Talk to Piter if you want me... but don't do it for awhile after he finds out Ellie lost the paper. You don't want to see that husky pissed."

Herb grinned. "Deal." He reached on the shelf and threw the portable radio to Jake then snatched the letter back from Roy.

"Boss, I don't think-"

"Shut up. I don't pay you to think." To Jake, "get this gay sack of shit out of here before I change my mind. And if you say anything about this to anyone, my dad knows furs that can have your whole family killed." He jabbed with his finger, trying to look threatening instead of just like the spoiled douche bag I knew he was.

Jake didn't say anything but I felt him grab me and start dragging me away from Herb.

***

"Are you ok?" Jake rolled me onto my back. Some of the furs on the walkway were standing around me, looking down with a mix of interest and boredom.

I flexed my hands, needing to be sure Herb didn't smash them."Y-yeah. I'm alright." I sat up and rubbed my throat. "Thank..." he was gone, "you." He lied for me. Big lies too. If Herb finds out Jake isn't with Piter, that'll put him in the Panda's crosshairs too.

As much as I would have loved to crawl my way into Dimitri's cell and spend the rest of the day curled up in my corner, I had to get to Sanders. Dimitri made it clear the lion owned me for the rest of the day. AlI I could do was hope he would be a kind, merciful master and just let me curl up in the corner of his cell and cry. That was literally the best I dared to hope for at this point.
