#9 of Zootopia Park

As Nick helps Clawhauser and Eddie escape from prison, Judy, Fangmeyer and Chase have a close call of their own as the danger mounts, who knows what will happen next?

Part 9

"Oh, cheeseballs! He's trying to break in here!"

Clawhauser's grasp of the obvious earned an eyeroll from Eddie, who stared at him with a dead stare. "Really." She spoke so matter-of-factly that it missed the male's attention.

The allosaurs on the outside of the cage let out loud barks and growls as they each took turns bashing their thick skulls into the bars, trying to somehow break in for their helpless prey. Feebly, Clawhauser grabbed the radio attached to his pocket and turned it on. "Ch-chief? I hope you're there... we've--" Another bash to the cage made him shriek in surprise. "AHH! We've got a problem up here! Chief? CHIIIIIEF!"

"Sounds like your friends have gone off the air." Eddie said. "And I'd say we have about three minutes before we're dino-chow, so I'd appreciate a little less on the screaming and--" She cringed as another loud clang echoed from the bars. She gasped as she watched the metal frame scratch the roof of the cell. "Or we've got less than three minutes." She said.

"Is this negative attitude what got you in here in the first place?"

She rolled her eyes again. "Ugh no, for your information I got nabbed for boosting a car, alright?"

"Why would you want to steal a car?"

"For the thrill." She answered. "Plus, the money's always a good bonus, you know."

"So you can't go get a real job, and this is where you end up?!" Another bam to the cell reminded the two of them about the dinosaurs still in the room.

The pair weren't small either, together, they took up a good amount of space in the open area beyond the cell bars. They constantly collided with each other as they ran at the two inside and would start snapping at one another. "Hey, I can't help it. I do what I like." She admitted.

"Well, right now I'd like to *not* be eaten by dinosaurs, okay? Okay." He answered himself as he ran over to the cell's small window and tried to yank it open. "Wait a minute! How'd you get out of here in the first place?"

"I picked the lock." Eddie answered. "I'd pick it again but, there are teeth waiting to answer the door." She watched curiously as Clawhauser began to pull at the bars, yanking at them with a good strain that would have easily made the veins in his forehead pop out if it were visible under his layer of fur. "Are you really trying to rip that window out?"

Clawhauser stopped straining and began to breathe heavily from the exertion. A wheezing voice followed. "We--we have to do som-something..." He huffed. "I definitely don't want to be on their menu."

"Oh trust me, it'll take them a good two days to eat you tubby."

The tip of Clawhauser's tail twitched as a twinkle of anger gleamed in his eye. "Will you quit making fun of my weight?"

"I would, but it's just too easy." She laughed, visibly hurting the cheetah even more.

"Hey spots, how's tricks?"

The voice from behind Clawhauser nearly made him jump through the roof. Wheeling around he saw a familiar fox in the cell's window block. "Nick? Oh wow! Nick! I can't believe you're here!"

"What are you guys doing in there? Finding a place for a little romance?" He asked, wiggling his eyebrows at the cheetah.

"Ugh! No, Nick we're kind of trapped in here?"

Looking at the dinosaur slamming into the cage again and seeing the bars lean just a bit more inward, Nick's eyeballs nearly fell out of his sunglasses as he brought them down to stare in shock over Clawhauser's shoulder. "So I see!"

"What are you doing here?"

"Well, got orders from the big chief that we needed to evacuate Sahara and Tajunga into the Tundra and city districts, so on our way through here we just happened to hear your screaming."

"See, I told you." Eddie said. "I knew someone would respond to your calls for help."

"And who is this?" Nick asked.

*BAM!* The cage echoed again. "Forget I asked, I'll ask later." He said as he draped a hook with a chain attached through the window and hooked it around the last bar. "Okay. Let's see if we can get you guys out of here, shall we?"

"Alright! I knew you'd have my back Nick!" Clawhauser bounded up and down with an excited giggle.

"Yeah." Nick said with a deadpan glance. "Okay, stand clear you two! McHorn! Floor it!"

The tires suddenly screamed to life as smoke poured from the tires as the squad car lurched forward suddenly. As Nick watched the wench unravel toward its tightest point, Clawhauser and Eddie took a jump away from the window, careful to avoid the jaws snapping at them from behind.

*CA-CLANG!*

The noise wasn't quite what they expected as the window remained in place. Clawhauser and Eddie returned to the window and followed Nick's incredulous stare as he looked at the thick bumper, now lying in the alleyway only a few feet from him. "Wow. I have to tell you, I did not expect that." He said, casting a glance at the two cheetahs.

"You... really need some upgrades." Eddie pointed out.

"Well, at least that spooked the dinos a little bit." Clawhauser pointed to the two creatures behind them, staring at the window in confusion. It didn't take long though as they regained their gumption and began to growl and stalk toward the bars once again. "Okay, scratch that one. Do you have a plan B or... some sort of a thing to get us out of here fast?"

"You know it. Okay McHorn! Plan B!"

As Nick hollered toward the car, the driver's door opened and the gigantic rhino officer stalked out. He turned and stared at the wall and snorted, kicking his foot behind him and creating a cloud of dust as he did the same movement with his other foot. Nick stepped back a few steps and cleared his throat. "Uhm... yeah, now I think you two better stand clear again!"

"Why?" Clawhauser asked. "What's he going to--" He paused as he noticed the rhino now charging the jail. "AHHHH!" He screamed as he grabbed Eddie and moved them both out of the way as McHorn burst through the brick wall with little effort.

"Clawhauser?" Eddie's voice came from somewhere in the cloud of dust that took what seemed forever to settle. "Do you think you can get off of me?" Her visage was clearer and Clawhauser found himself laying rather profoundly on top of the female.

"Oh! Goodness I am so sorry!" He said as he moved quickly to right himself. "I am such a klutz sometimes." He then shrieked and grabbed Eddie's legs, pulling her along the floor as a pair of dinosaur jaws snapped over her head. She screamed and flinched, realizing a second later she was briefly out of danger as the dinos appeared to remain trapped in the broken bars of the jail cell. The pair having been caught by their hunger suddenly could not wrench their heads upward to free themselves, and were effectively trapped.

"Well well. Looks like these two have caught themselves." Nick said as he put his sunglasses on. "Alright spots and... spottier... let's get out of here. I have a feeling that the big chief called a mass evacuation because of those things."

"Chief Bogo spoke to you?" Clawhauser asked hopefully. "When? What did he say?"

"It was a couple hours ago." Nick said. "Told us we needed to evacuate Sahara Square and Tajunga to Tundra Town if we could and to the city district if we ran out of room. You're lucky we heard you when we did. I don't fancy seeing you turned into dino chow."

"Aww." Clawhauser let off a slight sniffle. "Thanks, Nick. That means a lot."

"Uh-huh. You really owe me one. Now let's roll!"

***

Judy slowly pushed the manhole up with the top of her head to peer out into the sewer lines of the tunnel above where they were. Her nose wiggled as she slowly scanned the immediate area for the dinosaur feet she'd seen earlier, but she could pick up no sight nor scent of them anywhere. Casually she noticed Howard's head reach her level and his hands grabbed the cover as well.

"See anything?" He asked.

"Not yet." Judy whispered back. "It looks like the coast is clear." She slowly scanned her eyes back toward' Chase's blue eyes as they illuminated slightly from the light in the above room. "Think you can lift this up all the way? I think it's weighted down with a lock."

"I think if I get Fangmeyer up here the two of us can probably pick it up." The wolf nodded.

It took a few minutes for Fangmeyer to climb the ladder and swap places with Judy, but once he was settled in place, the pair nodded at each other and each grunted to pull the lid off the cover. There was a loud popping noise as the chain broke and an even louder rattle as it slipped and dropped down the manhole. Judy screamed and jumped out of the way before the weighty lock landed on her. A very noisy endeavor for the three of them, but a successful one as the pair slid the manhole cover aside and climbed up to the next level. Judy climbed up and the three found themselves now within a long fairly dark tunnel, illuminated by sets of lights that trailed along the ceiling, barely providing light to the almost completely unused tunnel. Fangmeyer pulled out his flashlight and tried to turn it on, but the torch didn't light. He slapped it a few times with his paw.

"Looks like the water's drowned my light." He said, hearing his voice echo as the enclosed walls which would have barely sheltered two thirteen-foot dinosaurs echoed shortly back at him.

"We'll use mine." Howard said as he extracted his flashlight. "It's water proof, it should still work."

He clicked the light, but it didn't respond. He clicked it again, then slapped it with his hand. "What in the?" He asked. "This should work, it's almost impossible to kill one of these things."

"Let me see that." Fangmeyer growled as he grabbed the light as well.

"Hang on, hang on!" Judy exclaimed, grabbing the base of the light. "It looks like the battery's come loose, here let me--"

The light clicked on, and for a brief three seconds the trio were relieved, until they each noticed a looming shadow in the beam directly over their heads.

"Aww yuck!" Fangmeyer groaned as he felt a pouring of wet drool strike his neck and quickly worm down his back. His face paused in fright as the others took a step back.

The beast let out an ungodly roar that immediately filled the tunnel and their ears with its resonant cry. All three officers let out a scream of terror and thinking quickly, Chase switched his light off, plunging them back into the darkness. Seconds later, he turned it on again, this time aiming to where he'd seen the creature's eyes. He watched the pupils suddenly constrict and the creature threw his head back from the blinding brightness, its cries reverting to that of pain.

"Run!" Judy shouted and all three took off down the tunnel.

There was literally no direction the three could turn though, but they could hear the sound of the allosaur regaining his senses and finally giving chase. They reached a sudden stop where they could go left or right. "Which way now?" Fangmeyer asked.

"Left!" Chase shouted and the three of them turned synchronously down the adjacent tunnel.

"Are you sure you know where you're going?" Judy asked, looking back to see the dinosaur skid and collide with the wall before continuing the chase.

"Not really, but it sounds good enough!"

"Are you kidding? What if we hit a dead end?"

"Anything's better than the row of teeth back there unless you have a better idea Fangmeyer!" Chase shouted back.

"I'm really starting to wish I were still unconscious right now!" He shouted back.

"There!" Judy shouted, pointing to a small opening in the wall they were running toward.

"We're never gonna make it!" Chase yelled.

"Go! Go!"

Judy stopped and let Fangmeyer squeeze in first, then Chase before she slipped in. "AHH!" She shouted as she was grabbed and pulled back. Gripping the wall, Chase watched as Judy was suddenly grabbed by the leg and pulled backward.

"Judy!" He shouted and grabbed her arms. His feet slipped some and he found himself in a game of tug-of-war with the dinosaur.

"My leg!" She exclaimed. "He-he doesn't have a good grip but... AHH! I feel his teeth now!"

Thinking quickly, Fangmeyer noticed a few bars hanging overhead. Reaching up, he grabbed on and jumped onto them. Despite the tight space, his agility and the bar both held quite nicely as he could get a good glimpse of the allosaur from overhead. "Hey! You!" He spoke in a gruff tone of voice. "Don't bite off more than you can chew."

He leaped forward, gracefully spinning his body into a forward flip until his foot came into direct contact with the creature's face. It jerked and pulled its head up, depositing Judy onto the ground as it fell back. Immediately it tried to recover its prey, but Chase pulled Judy away from the opening "Judy! Judy are you okay?" He asked, looking at the bit of blood on the rabbit's leg.

"Ye-yeah... it didn't have a good grip." She looked at Fangmeyer. "Thanks, that was pretty impressive."

"Well balance and timing." He said with a wiggle of his hand before winking at Chase.

Chase smirked knowingly and helped Judy to her feet. "C'mon... I don't think we can go back the way we came, so let's hope we've got something ahead."
