Slice of Lex: Chapter 10

By: Jenny Harlow

It was nearly noon before Lexi awoke, Victoria taking the rare chance to sleep in. It was Saturday, and call wasn't until later that night. The wolf got on all fours and quietly slipped over her girlfriend. She looked at the vixen, her hair down in her face and a small smile on her lips. She bent carefully over the bed, just reaching Victoria's ear. She kissed the base of it softly, before she whispered, "Hail Hydra."

The fox giggled, as she stretched. "Really? Of all the things you could choose to whisper. You know like good morning, dear. Or a nice 'I love you.' You chose hail Hydra?"

Lexi shrugged as she pulled her bathrobe on, slipping a pair of panties on under it. "Smells like your mom's already got lunch going. You want I should get you some?" Lexi said, flexing her stiff shoulders.

"Yeah, what's got you in the lunch in bed mood?"

"Nothing really, just figured it might be nice to enjoy a quiet breakfast, and watch some cartoons or something." The wolf opened the door, to the vixen's room. She headed down stairs the stairs. As she reached the bottom she was grabbed from behind by the twin vixen. She squeezed her around the waist, which made the wolf realize exactly how full her bladder was.

"So are we finally going to get to hang out today?" She said, holding the wolf hostage. The vixen was a good six inches shorter than the wolf, and nowhere near as heavy, yet she was surprisingly strong.

"Yeah, there should be no problem with that. Now let me go, I've got to pee and you're preventing me from accomplishing this task." The vixen giggled as she held the wolf a couple seconds more. Lexi was flailing her arms wildly, attempting to lean out of the vixen's grip, she too was laughing. "Seriously though, let me go before you have to mop the floor." Finally Elizabeth released her. The wolf took care of what she had to, then walked into the kitchen. The smell was intoxicating, Mrs. Adams's homemade probactro and vegetable soup, with cornbread. The wolf could feel herself drooling slightly, as she wiped her mouth with the sleeve of her robe. "Good morning mom." She said, standing behind the older vixen. "So how much longer?"

"About ten more minutes, just waiting on the cornbread now." She said. She handed Lexi a plastic spoon. "Taste this, and tell me if it's seasoned alright."

The wolf eagerly dipped the spoon in. She put it in her mouth and moaned slightly. "Don't change a thing." The wolf said. She then put a couple sodas over from the fridge to the freezer before walking upstairs again. Elizabeth fell in behind her.

"Aw, you just got up." She said, gently nudging her sister's mate.

"I'm not going back to sleep, Victoria and I have just elected to eat lunch in bed today. You can join us if you wish, I'm sure your sister wouldn't mind." As they reached the door, she put a finger up. "Wait here, your sister has developed a different sleeping habit since you've been gone." The wolf said with a wink. She walked into the room, the fox was indeed sitting against the headrest without any clothing on yet. Lexi tossed her her nightgown.

"I never would've thought you'd ask ME to cover up." The fox said, feigning indignation.

"Your sister's joining us for breakfast. I mean, I don't mind, but the two of you might." Victoria pulled the nightgown on. "You can come in now." Lexi said, as she got back in bed with her fox, pulling the covers up onto her lap.

Elizabeth sat down on the bed, sitting against the wall. She pulled the comforter up from the side, and set it on her lap. "Mom says the cornbread is probably going to take another two or three minutes."

The smell of food was getting more and more overpowering, finally reaching upstairs. Mrs. Adams called down from the bottom of the stairs. "Lunch is ready girls!"

Lexi slid out of the bed, returning with two bowls of soup and two plates of cornbread rested on top. She passed one each to the vixens, before turning around again. "Where are you going?" Liz said, tilting her head to the side.

"Two hands, not much carrying capacity. I've got to go get myself some soup before Ryan eats it all." The wolf disappeared back down the stairs. When she appeared again, she had a small frown on her face, and her eyes cast to the side. She stepped in without a word. Kylie was following behind her, barely balancing a bowl of soup and plate of cornbread. Lex handed her lady her bowl, and climbed up next to her, kissing her on the cheek as she took her food back. Kylie passed hers to Liz, who giggled as the youngest vixen crawled up next to her, pulling the comforter up like her sister had done. She sat with the other three, watching whatever cartoons decided to run.

Victoria laughed as her youngest sibling settled in, looking from one person to the other. "Well, I guess it's going to be a girl's day in." She said, tilting the bowl of soup to her lips.

"I'm fine with that." Liz said, pulling Kylie into a side hug, the younger vixen shrugging it off.

Lex sighed as her bowl emptied, sad that it was gone, but not willing to get another just yet. Lex turned slightly on the bed, pulling her legs up and laying her head on Victoria's lap. She was still a little tired after the past couple days, and didn't exactly want to disturb the other two vixen's on the bed right now, who were enjoying their sisters' company. She let out a quiet yawn. Victoria let out a long exasperated sigh and pointed at the wolf. "You see what I put up with?"

Liz giggled, she stretched out as well, along the foot of the bed, her feet connecting with her twin's under the covers, she gave her a playful kick and stuck her tongue out. "Hey it works for me, as long as she's there you won't jar her to retaliate."

Victoria gave a wicked grin, Lexi's head bumped as the vixen returned the kick. "Nah, sibling related vengeance is worth more than wolf snuggles. Lexi even knows that." She said, sticking her own tongue out. Lex mumbled, scowling heavily. "I LOOOOVE YOOOU!" Victoria said, kissing the wolf. She then started repeatedly pecking her on the head, between every kiss she'd let out a sing-song, "I love you!"

Lexi turned to look up at her. Her brow was furrowed and her face was now the very model of annoyed wolf. "Please stop... " The vixen leaned back smirking. Lexi sat up quickly, pinning Victoria to the bed as she licked the side of her face repeatedly.

"NO, STOP IT! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?" The fox said, giggling wildly.

"I LOVE YOU!" Lex sing-songed back at the vixen.

"Get a room you two." Liz said, kicking her sister again.

"This IS my room." Victoria said, as she finally pushed the wolf off of her. "Anyone else here decided to show up unannounced."

"Well, I can't argue that." The younger twin said with a shrug.

"Speaking of rooms and girls, how's Rebecca doing? Didn't she come for Ring of Steel?"

"Well of course she did. She's on the team too ya know." Elizabeth sighed. "I offered to let her stay with us, and I told her Mom wouldn't mind, but... She isn't quite ready to discuss things with Mom yet, and I'm not quite there either. I mean, you know her as Rebecca, Mom still knows her as Cody." The vixen said, pulling her knees up slightly.

Momentarily, neither Victoria, Lexi, or Liz herself had remembered Kylie was in the room. "Why is Cody called Rebecca now?" She asked, putting her head in Liz's lap.

Liz froze, not entirely sure what to say to her younger sister. "Well, it's a little complicated, you see, when I first met Rebecca, I thought she was a boy. It took her telling me after several dates, that she wasn't a boy. Of course, I love her, and I don't really care what gender someone is, as long as they're happy. Rebecca just wasn't happy as a boy... Do you understand any of what I'm saying?" Liz said, looking down with a smile at the younger vixen.

"So Cody is becoming a girl?"

"Rebecca is already a girl sweetie, that's her name."

"Oh." Kylie said, digesting this new piece of information.

"You can't tell Mom though okay?" Liz said, smiling at the younger sibling. "Rebecca's very shy right now and if you told Mom, Rebecca wouldn't be very happy."

"Okay Lizzie, I won't tell."

"How have things been going for her?" Lex asked curiously, thinking back on some of the awkward times watching James go through his life.

"So far, so good. She's not entirely open yet, but that's okay. She's letting her hair grow out, and around our place dressing more effeminately. She hasn't started anything medical, and is still trying to decide if she wants to or not. I've actually planned to stop off and spend some time with her tomorrow, if you guys want to come. I can show you our workshop and the bot too!" She said excitedly, her tail thumping the wall.

"Sure we'd love too, maybe after that I can show you around Sam Hill before the show starts, I've already promised Ryan a trip, we could spend some time together, just the three of us." She said, her tail own tail now beating the sitting wolf in the face. Lex gently grabbed her tail, holding it as it wiggled back and forth like an angry snake. "Sorry."

They went back to watching cartoons, the wolf's head returning stubbornly to Victoria's lap. She scowled at her mate as she settled down. Victoria giggled softly, and stroked gently behind Lexi's ears. Liz still had Kylie's head in her lap. Everything was fairly quiet, all of them with full tummies and a warm blanket were fairly sedate. It was about one when Lexi's phone beeped. She sighed heavily as she fumbled blindly for it on the headboard, grabbing Victoria's by mistake. She mumbled as the vixen took her phone down. "I have no idea what this means." Lexi said, as Victoria handed her the phone. "It's a text from James."

"Well what's it say?"

"Need help, bought couch, movers busy until Wednesday."

"Um..." Victoria said, looking at the message herself.

Lexi texted back, "What do you mean? This is just random words."

"I bought a couch."

"I gathered that."

"For Christine."

"Okay..."

"But the movers are busy until Wednesday."

"So, what do you want us to do?"

"Pick the couch up from the furniture place just inside Fort Wills and see if you can get it to her apartment before she gets home.

Lex just blinked at the text. Her brain not being entirely able to process this request right now. She sent back a very confused, "Seriously?"

"Yeah... I kind of made a mistake, and got over excited."

The wolf sighed, sitting back up. "Vic, do you think your truck can carry a sofa?"

"If we're careful. But you're not seriously suggesting what I think you're suggesting."

"James has politely asked us to move a couch for him, including temporarily moving, and storing, Christine's current couch."

"What the actual fuck?" Victoria said, gently taking Lex's phone. "Well, let's grab Ryan and Daren. We're going to need them from the looks of this link he sent you." She shook her head. "What the heck is that squirrel thinking?" She started to be upset, until she realized what the couch actually was. "Oh, it folds out into a queen size bed. He's got to stay with her, and he wants to be able to sleep comfortably with her next to him." She said, looking at the specs. The vixen sighed as she pulled on her torn black jeans. "Liz, can you and Kylie let us get dressed?"

"Sure, I'll get dressed myself. It sounds like you might need all the help you can get. Besides, this way we still get to spend today together." The twin said, taking her little sister out with her.

"Good idea, I'll call Mat and have him meet us at the apartment." Lex said as she started taking her robe off.

Victoria put on her black tank which afforded her the most movement. She then put on her steel-toed boots, which Lexi had actually bought her at one point. She tucked her tights into a bag, in case she had to leave for call immediately. She turned around to Lexi who had dressed similarly, in a pair of black sweats, a white tank, with a black over shirt slung over her shoulder. She nodded to the vixen as she pulled her shoes on. Ryan and Liz came out to the truck to find Victoria standing in the back, her phone in one hand, her tape measure in the other. "It will almost fit, if it wasn't for the toolbox." She said, kicking the metal enough to make a hollow thump.

"What if you leave the gate down, that's how we moved my couch."

Victoria opened the gate again, "That might work, we'd just have to brace it really carefully." Victoria hopped down, closing the bed again. "I think it will work, but it will take some fiddling, and careful strapping." Victoria said, as she opened the door and placed the clip-on shades on her glasses.

Lex hopped into the passenger seat, Ryan and Liz in the back. Victoria backed out, headed towards Daren's. "Wow Vic, this is a nice truck." Liz said, looking around the cabin. "When did you get this?"

"About two months into my freshman year at college. The little Cobalt just died, and I fell in love with this beast."

Liz just nodded as she stared out the window. "It feels good to be home again." She said as she looked out the window, taking in her old neighborhood.

"That reminds me, why are you back here for so long? Is your job going to be okay?" Victoria asked, looking at her sister for a moment in the rear view.

"Okay? They're paying me to be here. They're sponsoring VA Tech in Ring of Steel, which is about six weeks. Then they've given me two weeks vacation, and then I have another week here for a convention. I'm sorry that I won't get to spend much of that time with you though, I'll likely be asleep whenever I'm home." Liz said, sighing. "Still, we get two really good weeks. My first heat in the ring is next Thursday."

"What time?" Lex said, her tail swaying slowly.

"It starts at ten in the morning, so they have plenty of time to film and edit before that night. The heats for that day run for about two hours, three ten minute heats, with several other sideshows. Our heat's the very last one of the day." Liz Shrugged her shoulders. "Why do you ask?"

"Ten to noon? That's great! I only have an evening show that day. Think you could get me a ticket?"

"Sure I can, we're allowed to bring up to four people each, and Bec- Cody doesn't have any family down this way. So there's enough for Mom, Dad, Ryan, Kylie, You and Vic, if you can come." Victoria smiled. "I can during the first week, but the second one I have to work as a Student Ambassador during UIL, basically helping with load-in and strike of every show that comes through."

"That's cool though, as long as you get to see one of my matches and I get to see one of your shows." Liz said with a smile.

"Wait, I get to go see that robot you built in action? Really?!" Ryan said, his tail beating heavily against Victoria's window.

"Heh, sure you do bro. I can get you tickets to every night's show, and even better, a backstage pass. So you can come hang out with Cody, the rest of the crew and I."

Ryan's tail was dangerously close to breaking the sound barrier now. "Cool!" For a seventeen year old boy, getting to hang out with his sister and her fiance in a shop full of robots was about as close to heaven as he could get.

They stopped at Daren's place, his apartment was half-way between Victoria's house and Arlington West, sitting on the border of Fort Wills. "So what's this about a couch?" He said, he looked as if he had just woken up.

"James decided to do a nice thing for his girlfriend, but he just did it in a dumb way." Lex said, looking back at her brother.

"Ah." He blinked for a second. "Who's this?" He said, pointing to Liz.

"Victoria's sister. You and I have only spoken with her on Discord. Daren, Elizabeth, Elizabeth, Daren." Lex said, pointing from one to the other.

He waved at her. "Cool." Being the only thing he said, the vixen giggled and shook her head.

They arrived at the furniture store, which was a medium sized warehouse, just inside of Fort Wills. The sky above began to look dubious, so the canines traveled with in. They were greeted by a rather robust raccoon. He smiled, "Welcome to Homes Plus." He said, as he waddled around the counter. "Tell me, what is it you fine ladies, and the gentlemen too, are looking for today." He said, again flashing that winning smile.

"Actually, we're here to pick up a sofa. It's reserved for James Harrison." Victoria said, looking around at all the different recliners and couches. The entire place smelled faintly of cinnamon, which made her nose burn.

"Ah yes, a lovely choice to be sure." He waddled towards the back of the warehouse, motioning for them to follow. He walked through a double door, there were all sorts of pieces of furniture wrapped in giant plastic bags. He stopped next to one of the items and checked the tag. "Here we are, did you bring a truck to move it? We couldn't move it ourselves until Wednesday, and it would be an upcharge." The raccoon said, leaning against the piece of furniture.

"We brought a truck, any assistance getting it in said vehicle would be greatly appreciated though." Victoria said, pulling out her tape measure and her phone. She checked the actual measurements of the couch, and her truck bed against each other. "It should fit, provided the tailgate's down." She said as the tape slid back into the reel.

The raccoon whistled, and a large rhino came over. He let out a snort, and he and the raccoon spoke to each other in a different language, the raccoon pointing to the couch with one hand, and indicating the small group gathered with the other. The rhino nodded, saying maybe two words. He turned around to the small group of friends. "You come with me." He said, coming off as unintentionally pushy. He picked the couch up, managing to hold it on his shoulder. Liz's jaw dropped as she followed him out the door with the rest of them. He walked out, stopping just short of the rainy open. "Where truck?" Victoria pointed, and ran to lower the tailgate. He set it down with a grunt, the truck's suspension bouncing slightly. "You need help with strap?"

"No, no, I've got it." Victoria said, climbing up into the bed. With Lexi's help the two got it strapped in securely. "Excellent, now let's get out of this rain."

They piled into the truck, Ryan laughing as Liz shook the water off her tail, splashing Daren in the face. As they started out of the driveway, Lex started giggling as well. "James is gonna go bankrupt."

"Why's that?" Liz said.

"Because he's just promised everyone who helps move the couch a meal. So far, that's six people, including Mat who's meeting us at the apartment."

Victoria grinned, as she leaned her head back. "Ah yes, the ravenous horde is about to descend on our poor little squirrel."

The friends were greeted by a small green car, parked near the entrance to the building under a sheltered visitor space. As Lex got out, she walked over to Mat and waved. "Hey, haven't seen you in a couple days. Sorry about the last minute notice."

"That's okay, I'm here because it's raining, I like the rain... Who's this?"

"Victoria's twin, you guys can talk more on the way up."

"Okay." Mat walked over to the truck bed and put his hand on his chin for a moment. "Lex, Victoria, for everyone's sake, why don't you two take the cushions up in the holy elevatus. The good old holy elevatus. But seriously, I don't want either of you getting hurt or dropping the couch on the way up. You both have dodgey shoulders, so it seems like the best idea. Plus you can get the apartment open and the lighter couch out. Agreed?" He said, turning to Daren, Liz, Ryan. The wolf and the foxes nodded.

The two mates walked into the apartment and rode the elevator up to the fourth floor. Lexi opened Christine's apartment and the two walked in. Lex hadn't been in the apartment for a while. She was shocked at first to find blood still on the kitchen floor. A small trail of which led from Christine's bed to the end spot. She blinked, then shrugged slightly. "I wonder if we can get someone to clean that up for her." Lex said, as she set the pillows down in a clean spot. "So where do we put the old couch?"

"Well, for right now, why don't we just set it in your apartment? You'll be staying with me a little while anyways, so the lack of space won't matter." Victoria said with a shrug.

Lex nodded, and the two started to slide the couch out of the room. It slid fairly easily, as Christine had placed it on furniture skids. The two girls pushed it out into the hall, Lex climbed over it, and opened the door with her key. They slid the couch into the room, and took the skids off of its feet to use on the new couch. They heard the grumbling approaching inside the stairwell. It was still fairly near the bottom. The two girls decided to take the elevator down to the second floor and check on the progress. The couch had been definitely too large to fit within the elevator, as most couches are. The second problem was a sharp hundred and eighty degree turn within the stairwell. As such the couch was currently stuck between two ninety degree turns. "Anything we can do to help? Feel kind of useless now that we've gotten the old couch out."

"I'm not sure it would be such a good idea, don't want either of you two getting hurt." Daren said, leaning on the arm of the couch.

"Come on, we're not entirely fragile." Victoria said, winking as she stood next to her twin. "Way it looks to me we've got to lift it over the handrail, only for a moment, to get it fully turned." Victoria bent low, and tested the weight of the couch. "I'm not sure if the four of you can do that by yourselves." Mat shrugged. There wasn't really room for Lex at the time, so she stepped up to the next turn, and leaned over the railing to watch the team below. With a brief count, the team lifted, bracing a small corner of the new couch on the handrail as they managed to slide it around. As they set the couch down again, Victoria gave a slight whimper. Ryan let out an audible groan as he looked at his sibling's arm. Her arm hung from her side, and looked odd. The fox turned to her twin. She leaned into her, letting Liz gently place her hands on her arm and back.

"Ready?" Liz said, concerned. Victoria nodded before closing her eyes and taking a deep breath. Liz too inhaled, with a loud pop, Victoria's shoulder popped back into its socket. She let out a loud yelp, before moving her shoulder in a full rotation. "Don't do that again." Liz said, gently rubbing her sister's back.

Victoria nodded, as she joined Lexi on the next landing. The couch's progress continued, the crew now able, with some struggle, to work it up onto the railing and rotate it slightly at every landing. At the fourth floor, it fit through the wide hallway entrance easily enough, Victoria popped the skids on the bottom of the new couch, and the crew pushed it towards its destination. Mat had heard what had happened to Christine, even though he'd been out of state. Daren was directly aware of it. Yet none of them, especially Ryan and Liz, were ready for the scene the two mates had witnessed earlier. They shrugged, Lex muttering, "we should just finish this. I think there's a service covered by our apartment that might clean this up." Without discussing it more, the friends pushed the couch over into the corner. It was a perfect fit. To be a hundred percent sure, they folded the bed out. Pleased with themselves, the crew high-fived. It had taken less time than expected to finish the task. It was only about three thirty. "Let's get some food, my treat." Lexi said, as the group began to walk out of the apartment. She stopped just at the doorway, she turned back to look at the blood one more time. In her mind she could almost see James kneeling down next to Christine on the floor. There were markings in the puddle where the squirrel's knees had been resting. She shook her head sadly. On her way out, she stopped at the front desk, and told them about the mess. The landlord agreed to have it taken care of for the mouse. The wolf smiled as she headed out with her friends. By the end of call tonight, Christine would be home with James. If they were up to it, Lex thoroughly intended to spend time with the mouse and squirrel after the call ended.
