Counter Earth Chronicles

Chapter 74: The Wild Ones (Finals Week Part Four)

Day 233 continued.

So Devious agreed to teach Toby how to survive in that dark whatever it is wherever it is in exchange for Toby becoming his little bear eh? This was getting interesting. The only problem was that it was also getting late. I quickly glanced at the time as Lurie and I were about to start reading story four together; it was a little after midnight.

I surmised that the she beast and I should wrap this up soon because she had work in the morning and I didn't want to mess with her sleeping schedule. But that was when I noticed something felt different around my tail bone- it was moist. I also notice that the coyote female was getting warm and her breathing was increasing.

Lurie was getting aroused!! But how? We have only read a few stories and the most nasty thing we had witnessed was Toby and Devious messing around during their meeting. How could the 'yote girl be getting off on that? Toby and Devious haven't even yiffed yet although it looked like it was headed in that direction or was it that she was imaging what Devious looked like in her mind's eye- a tribal warrior with a slight build, slender muscles, firm chest, plump crotch and completely naked except for some tribal drawings on his arms and primitive jewelry around his neck?

I was going to ask her, but did not exactly know how to word that in Animalian. I thought we better just move on to the next story.

Story Four: Warrior's Test

Toby clung to Devious side as the two reentered the Forest of Terror.

_"Not that close Runt." Devious said. "If were are attacked I will need to be able to fight." _

"Oh sorry." The little were said.

"Shush! In here!" Devious said grabbing Toby and diving into some brush.

Toby peaked out to see why the adolescent were-creature had made them hide. They saw a group of caprine warriors walking near to their location. From what he could make out in the light of the moons, there were three adults two males and one female with scars on their chest and arms- more inhabitants from this realm. From the looks of it, these creatures have had a hard life trying to survive in this horrid place.

"It is too late for them." Devious whispered to Toby.

"What do you mean?" The little bear asked.

"Watch." The adolescent were-creature said.

_Suddenly a large pair of teeth burst through the forest floor and grabbed on to one of the warriors! _

"No!! Stay Away!! Ahh!!!" The goat screamed.

_The teeth held the male warrior in place just long enough for another pair to descend upon him from above. This pair of teeth chomped down on everything up to the warrior's legs. Then ripped him apart. _

Aiiee!!!" The goat shrieked as he was separated from his legs.

Seeing what had happened to their friend, the remaining warriors rushed to his aid.

Devious shook his head back and forth.

_"Amateurs." _

No sooner had the were creature said that the remaining warriors were picked up from their fallen friend by what looked to be large bat-like creatures and carried away screaming.

"What the hell is that?" Toby whispered to his 'friend'.

_"No Sees. They attack their prey in pairs. Keep quiet and don't move. We have to wait them out Runt otherwise we will share the goat's fate." _

The two waited for some twenty minutes until the two beings moved on. As the creatures departed, Toby tried to get a good look at them. They appeared to be a walking pair of large teeth- the rest of the being's bodies couldn't be made out in the moonlight.

"What were the other things that got the rest?" Toby asked Devious.

"I am not sure- they looked like gargoyles. They have been known to hunt in this forest." Devious said thinking. "On second thought let's not sleep in the forest tonight."

Toby was who was horrified at what he had just seen reached out to hold Devious' paw. The pair carefully walked west for a time until they reached a shoreline at a great body of water.

"Wow the ocean!" Toby said running to the edge of the water. Forgetting where he was, Toby stuck his paws in to feel the gentleness of the waves and the coolness of the water.

"Runt this way!" Devious yelled.

_"Aw, but the water is so nice and inviting." Toby protested as Devious pulled him back from the edge. _

"Damn, no place to hide. Lie down and don't move." The adolescent were-creature said to his little bear.

No sooner had they laid flat right out on the beach something large rose out of the ocean head first. This what ever it was was large about twenty feet in all with a long serpentine body and fearsome red eyes. It scanned the shoreline looking for its next meal. It found it a crawler which was dumb enough to leave the confines of the forest to walk along the seashore.

The walking plant made a horrific death cry as it became the sea creature's salad; it disappeared into the sea creature's maw. The sea creature disappeared under the water shortly afterwards failing to notice two were-creatures who were lying face down in the sand very near to where it caught its evening meal.

"That is a sea dragon who decided to make a crawler its dinner." Devious said as he got up from their impromptu hiding place.

"Is everything here trying to hunt, maul, kill and eat us?" The little bear asked greatly disturbed.

"Yeah pretty much." The adolescent were-creature replied scanning the shoreline. "This way."

Devious escorted Toby to another of his hideouts. This one was an escarpment adjacent to the shoreline. They walked around it until they found a curved protrusion that hid them from anything on the hunt.

"This will do." The bear said reclining on the sand against the base of the natural structure and beckoning Toby to join him.

"Devious will we be safe?" Toby said as he wrapped his arms around the were-bear shaking.

_"Pretty safe, the protrusion hides us from everything walking by. You would have to know this was here to actually see us." Devious said pulling his little bear close. _

Toby was impressed. "I can see how you managed to survive despite not being very strong or quick."

_"What's that supposed to mean?" _

"Your name suits you; you are very cunning and devious." Toby said hugging the were-creature.

"You have to be to survive in this place. Anyway we can sleep here." Devious said kissing Toby on his head.

"Life here is rough to the point of being raw." Toby said. "I am going to miss the common comforts like pillows and blankets. Please tell me it gets better."

_Devious said nothing but stretched out his left arm and pulled Toby's head to rest on his chest. _

"You will have to adapt then." He whispered. "Speaking of adapting there are some other things you will have to adapt to..."

"Yeah, being naked for one." Toby said glancing at Devious' penis sheath and scrotum. "It is going to take me a long long time to get used to that."

_"Let me help you." The were-creature said as he grabbed Toby's loin cloth. _

**Yoink**

_"Devious!" Toby said embarrassed. _

"Since you are now a member of the tribe you will need to look like one of us." Devious smiled placing his paw on the little bear's shoulder.

"You mean I and going to have to walk around with everything showing?!"

"Not completely we do wear decorations- bands, necklaces and limb wrappings. But don't think about it in those terms Runt. Think about it as seeing everyone as they really are- physically."

_"You are telling me that it is a cultural- tradition thing?" The little bear asked looking at his 'friend'. _

_Devious nodded. "There will be some other rough adjustments that you will need to make as well." _

Life here was not only hard but very primal the little bear concluded. He was going to deeply miss the conveniences of his previous life.

"By the way my name is not Runt. It is Toby."

"It is Runt from now on. Let's see, you are a wanderer from another tribe far from here. Questioning your place in life you had a falling out with your leader and left drifting from place to place."

"Say what?" Toby asked.

"That is your new identity little bear always remember it. Toby the tiger perished in the forest five nights ago running from our tribe." Devious said petting his little bear. "If anyone, anyone discovered your true identity your life would be in danger because word could get back to the clan and you would be hunted again. That is why you will need to dress like and act like you are a member."

"Whoops." Toby said as Devious looked at him. "I told Surly who I really was."

"You should be ok. He is a loner. Most likely he will keep the secret. But any beast else...."

_"Right." Toby said. _

"Oh and there is one more thing Runt."

"What's that?" The little bear said looking at Devious.

The were-creature lifted Toby off of his chest and kissed him- snout to snout.

"Devious what- what was that for?" Toby asked shocked.

"You and I will have to do that each and every night."

"For how long?"

"Forever."

"Why?"

"I see I also have a lot to teach you especially about your new form Runt. It will be extremely necessary for YOUR survival."

"My survival?!" Toby asked.

"Yes." Devious said cryptically. "We will have to do this every night if I am to keep you safe. Besides you didn't seem to mind it the first time we met."

Toby blushed as the were-creature said that.

_So before the two went to sleep Devious kissed Toby. Then Toby in turn kissed Devious. The two went back and forth for a good three minutes. _

Toby thought the practice was weird, and completely unnecessary. The adolescent were-creature told him to the contrary it was not and if they were very lucky, he would never have to know the reason why.

_After their smooch session, Devious lied back down on the escarpment pulling Toby toward him. _

"So Runt what position do you like to sleep in? On top, on your side, spooning?" Devious asked his little bear.

"I like this position." Toby said lying on his right side with his arm around Devious' waist while resting his head on the were-creature's chest.

"So what is this position called?" Devious asked hugging Toby back after the little bear embraced him.

"Friendship."

That word again Devious thought. So this is what it is like being a friend?

Despite them being out in the open, Devious' little charge didn't take long to fall asleep. The little bear was soon snoring softly. Devious before nodding off decided to admire his creation once again. Ever so carefully he moved his right paw toward the little bear's groin which he gently explored and groped while Toby slept. The little bear's genitals were as adorably cute as he remembered and now all his! Especially that penis. It wasn't bulbous or cigar shaped like others he had seen, but an entirely different design- it looked like an inverted fang- triangular at its base and pointy at the end. He just had to touch it.

**grope**

Devious massaged Toby's rump with his left paw while he held the little bear's penis and sheath with his right paw.

_The two slept in the confines of their hiding space. Toby had found someone to look after him in this strange and dangerous place. Devious had found a meaningful purpose in his meandering existence as well. At least for the time being. _

So the next morning, err night...

Toby was sleeping on something very soft as the little were started to stir. Funny he didn't remember cuddling up in a blanket but what ever it was it did make him feel safe, comfortable, warm and even loved. As Toby awoke he realized that he was being cuddled by Devious who had a nice grip on his hind quarters and his penis- weird.

"Did you sleep well Runt? Devious asked stirring.

"Uh yeah that is until I saw what position we were sleeping in!"

"If you are going to trust me, we will need to become very close because we will be spending a lot of time together." The adolescent were-creature responded.

"But not like this!" Toby huffed. "It was like we had just sexed!"

"Would that be such a bad thing?"

"EW! ICK!" The little bear retorted.

"You can be reviled now little bear, but little by little I will chip away at your resolve until...."

"Until what?" Toby asked.

"Until you relent and on that night you do, we will become much closer than we are now." Devious snickered as Toby's tummy started to grumble.

"Sorry, I guess I am getting hungry." The little were said standing up stretching. "So what do you have to eat around these parts?"

Devious was silent. Which caused Toby to stare back at his 'friend'.

"Devious something wrong?"

"No, just admiring you as you truly are- physically."

_Toby realized what the were-creature was looking at and started blushing. _

"Enough!" He said pointing to his face. "Devious! I am up here!"

"And down there too." Devious said standing up and stretching.

"So what's for breakfast?" Toby asked.

"Anything and everything- whatever you want Runt."

"That's narrowing it down." The little were responded.

"How do you catch breakfast back in your world?" Devious asked.

"You remember Surly's machine?"

"Yes, vaguely."

"I would walk up to mine, tell it what I want and it would make it for me."

"Wow." Devious said. "Well here you have to go and get it."

Devious and Toby left their hiding space walking several miles to the east to a small clearing back in the forest where the adolescent were-bear made his little charge sit on the forest ground.

"Devious, why are you using me as bait?" Toby asked.

"You are hungry aren't you?" The adolescent were-creature asked.

"Yes." Toby responded. "Very."

"Well do you know how to track prey?" Devious asked.

"No."

"Can you stalk it?"

_"No." _

"Do you know how to hunt?"

"Uh, no."

"Do you know how to corner, confront and kill?"

"Uh no." Toby responded.

"Then you are the bait." The were-creature responded petting Toby on the head.

"Devious!!!"

_"Besides, you might have noticed there aren't any of what you mortals call machine- food-makers around here right?" _

_Toby nodded. _

"That means we have to hunt. You trust me right?"

Toby nodded again. Well Devious did spare his life and saved him from the bear clan. So Toby guessed that he could trust the were to procure their breakfast.

And so....

"Bait, bait, bait bait. I am nothing but bait sitting on the forest ground all helpless and by myself awaiting for some creature to come along and eat me." Toby said singing out loud.

"Just like that Runt." Devious said darting back into the brush.

Toby sang his sing-song for about a good fifteen minutes before the two had a nibble.

Suddenly the brush in front of him shook violently as a hideous fire-like creature floated out from it front of Toby. The creature was a ball of fire with eyes and a mouth and appeared to be twice the size of Toby. It was quite scary.

"RORGE?!" The thing said as it floated toward Toby who immediately stood up.

_"Aiiee!!" Toby screamed backing away as the scary creature moved toward him. "Get away! Get away!" The little bear shrieked. _

"HA!!!" Devious yelled as he sliced the creature bringing it down.

The creature made a pathetic death cry as it fell still.

"Breakfast is served Runt." Devious proudly declared. "And it is already hot!"

"That thing?!"

"It is called an Unknown. They are quite delicious, that is if you kill them before they kill you."

"Are you serious- that thing?" Toby exclaimed.

"Come on I will show you how to eat it. Oh and you also need to work on the trusting me thing."

_"Whatever do you mean?" The little were said trying to feign ignorance. _

"I saw the puddle you made as our prey approached."

"What puddle? I don't see a puddle?" Toby declared.

"That one right next to you. Right there." Devious said pointing. "Runt, you don't have to be afraid I will look out for you alright?"

Toby nodded. "So exactly how do you eat a unknown?"

Devious and Toby carried their meal back to their beach hideout. Once there Toby watched as the adolescent were carved up their prey into bite size chunks. By that point he was too hungry to be reviled.

Devious soon sat down and called his little bear to join him.

"No not there. Over here Devious said motioning to his lap."

"Um ok." Toby said.

Toby sat in front of the adolescent were-bear. When he did, Devious wrapped his arms and legs around his young charge.

"What's this for?!" Toby asked.

_"We are going to have to work on your trust issues." Devious said poking a piece of meat with a stick. He then bit into it, pulled off a piece and started chewing before offering the rest to Toby. _

"Chew slowly then swallow."

Toby did exactly as ordered. It didn't taste bad. But didn't taste all that great either.

"Well what do you think?"

"It is ok. Thank you."

"Don't thank me yet, I am going to start teaching you survival skills tonight." Devious said as he grabbed some more meat and started feeding.

"Now?"

"Why not now little bear? You will need these skill if you are going to live here."

"Ok." Toby said as the adolescent were-creature started the lesson.

"Let's talk about stealth. As you probably have noticed here everything wants to hunt, chase, maul, kill and eat you. The only way you can survive is to be stealthy. Don't walk in the moonlight, hide and lurk in the shadows. Watch from the shadows."

"You mean like when I first saw you- you appeared out of the darkness right in front of me." Toby said eating.

"Exactly, the caprines we saw last night were walking right out in the open and you saw what happened to them; they wound up in some creatures' bellies and are being digested right now."

The two finished up and then returned to the forest, well its outskirts. "Is this a good spot here?"

"Yeah that's good." Devious said as he and Toby dove into some thick brush and made themselves comfortable. "Now be quiet and observe. You can be learn much from observation."

"And other's misfortune." The little bear added.

So the two watched and observed. They saw more of the forest inhabitants move through their location gargoyles, globs, huge insects and the occasional crawler.

_After about a good forty minutes of observation, the two were-creatures observed something else some sort of ritual. Two warriors from the lion clan had entered the outskirts of the forest. _

One was an adult lion a strong and proud warrior, thick mane, powerful arms, broad shoulders and his son a young weak looking cub slightly younger than Toby. Both barely dressed except for cloths around their unmentionables and the weapons they carried.

"Father I am scared." The golden cub said dropping his spear.

"I know that you are Hunter but it is our tradition. You are of age." The Lion warrior said to his cub.

"But father I am not sure I am ready to take the warrior's test!"

"You are the age I was when I took mine as my father was when he took his and his father before him."

"But ascending to the top of Honor Hill?!"

"I know it is scary and dangerous, but this is our tribe's tradition. This warrior's test will challenge you- your bravery, courage, cunning, strength, determination and self confidence. If you make it to the top, you will become a true warrior."

"Yes father." The cub said picking up his spear.

"No go. Most important of all Hunter- believe in yourself.

"Yes father." The cub said as he headed north.

"What are they doing?" Toby whispered to Devious.

"I am not sure."

"Is he abandoning his cub?" The little bear asked. "Why would he do that especially out here?"

"Each clan here has their own way of raising their young." Devious said to Toby. "It appears the felines have their own as well."

"His father said something about climbing to the top of Honor Hill in order to become a warrior."

_"Horrible Hill is what we call it." Devious said to his little bear. "There are some nasty creatures up there." _

"It is so tall it might as well be called a mountain." The little were said after looking at where the cub was headed. "Say Devious why don't we tag along?"

"Really Runt? What is in it for us?"

"Well I can practice my stealth training by observing him from the shadows."

_"You can practice your stealth techniques here." _

"Remember what I said about coming out of yourself and caring for others?" The little bear said to his protector.

"Yeah what about it?"

_"We should help him- Devious he is all alone and it would be an opportunity to make a new friend." _

"Let me guess Runt you can never have too many of them."

"See, you're getting it."

Toby and Devious followed the lion cub and watched from the shadows as the youngling ascended the mountain-tall hill.

The slope while at a forty-five degree angle was still pretty challenging and so were the obstacles:

"Those are some ugly trees Devious."

"Those aren't Runt they are grab-you-gotchas."

"What the what now?"

"They grab their victims with their branches and squeeze the life out of them."

"In that case we need to warn him." The little bear picked up a stone and threw it a the 'trees' in front of Hunter. They contracted startling the cub who wisely walked around them and continued climbing.

The two bears watched the lion cub continue ascend the hill secretly offering their assistance when needed. Several points during his climb Hunter lost his grip and started sliding down the slope of the mountain only to find that his fall was stopped by a mysterious something that pushed him up to a spot where he could resume climbing.

_"Who is there?" The young warrior said as he reached a a level plateau. _

Hunter looked around. There was nothing but walking spiders all around the him. The huge insects were so ugly they looked like walking paws.

Hunter was about to study them closely.

"I wouldn't do that!" Came a voice from the darkness.

"Their bite is quite nasty and paralyzing." Said a second voice.

"You two come forward so I can see you." Hunter ordered the voices.

Toby and Devious stepped out from the shadows into the moonlight.

"You two are from the bear tribe. You were the ones helping me. But why?"

"We were training earlier and happened to observe your conversation with your father. We couldn't help helping out."

"Thank you, but this is my test; I have to prove I am a warrior by reaching the top of this mountain by myself."

_"That is quite a test of endurance." Devious said to the cub. "This mountain is quite high and there are some nasty critters on it. Those you were about to interact with for instance." _

"Oh." Hunter said. "Thank you but I must do this by myself." The lion cub said as he found a narrow pathway upward. He grabbed his spear and continued walking.

Toby looked at Devious who only smirked in the moonlight.

"Wait for it." The adolescent were-creature said.

"AUGH!!!!"

"Okay now."

Toby and Devious followed the same narrow path to the summit of the mountain. They found the young lion stuck to a wall of the mountain by some green goo a huge mollusk about to devour him. Next to the cub was his father desperately trying to fend of the creature to save his son.

"Runt free him." Devious ordered.

Toby picked up the young lion's spear and used it to free him.

_The cub's father looked at the adolescent were-bear who joined him in his desperate struggle. _

"I am here to help. My name is Devious."

"Tracker." The lion warrior said. "We need to lure it away!"

After a few moments Toby chipped away enough of the goo freeing the lion cub just in time for Tracker and Devious' return.

"Thank you." Hunter said to his rescuers. "Father I failed."

"Nonsense you reached the top regardless." The lion said to his son.

"And almost got eaten in the process." The were-creature said to the father and son.

"Devious!" Toby chided him.

"Well you did complete your warrior's test despite some unwanted help." The lion warrior said. "You two why did you help my son?!"

"Why did you abandon him?!" Toby shot back.

"It is our way." The lion warrior said to the little bear. "This exercise builds confidence and self determination. Had he completed it by himself he would have been considered a full fledge warrior within the tribe."

"Had he tried this by himself, he would have ended up dead- that mollusk was quite hungry and nasty." Toby shot back.

"You didn't answer my question. Since when does one of you help one of us?" Tracker said staring at the two were-creatures that had come to his cub's aid.

"We were training on this mountain and realized that Hunter needed some assistance; additionally we realized that we shared common goals. Survival being the most important of them." Devious said to the lion warrior.

"Besides we have seen enough death the last two nights. I didn't want to witness any more." Toby said staring at the lions who stared back at him. (was it because he was naked?)

"Perhaps we should rethink the old ways. Hunter you will return here tomorrow and take the test again." The lion warrior said to his son.

"Yes father."

"The tribe will select two more cubs to accompany you. The three of you will attempt to reach the summit together."

_"As for you two...." _

"Yes, we should be going." Devious said grabbing Toby by the paw.

"Thank you." The Lion warrior said.

"You're welcome." Toby said. "You could repay us by showing us how to get down from here.

"There is another path down the mountain, but it is more dangerous than the first." The lion warrior said placing his paw on Hunter.

"Ready for more training Runt?"

"Aw geez." The little bear huffed. "But at least we have some friends to help us out." Toby said to Devious.

"Riiiight." The were-creature said leading Toby away.

Story Four Ended.

To Be Continued....
