CHAPTER 4 : Arrival of The Temple Warrior

The creature was now above him. As his eyes closed, Vincent thought of everyone he loved, met and became friends with. The creature opened its mouth and went for him. The last thing the wolf saw was the large teeth and a gape more than a metre wide.

[At least it'll be quick]

Everyone stood in the main hall of the academy gathering up their gear. After hearing that Vincent had gone missing in the forest, a group of them were selected to go and find him. Ryan, Tri, Adair, Kenji, Kuro and even Kayrin were also asked to participate. Once he‘d been told everything, he and Chris had put their date on hold for the time being and immediately headed back. Although Chris had volunteered to join the search, he was having trouble trying to convince Fox so he could come along.

"Tell me again why cant I go?" Chris asked. He had his arms folded and was trying not to show the growing anger.

Fox sighed. "You're a civilian. Its just been assigned to us."

"Your point? Look McCloud, I'm going whether you like it or not."

"And if you get hurt, we are the ones responsible for that!"

"I can look after myself." Chris said sternly.

Fox shook his head. The kangaroo was stubborn and no matter what he tried he doubted that Chris would take no for an answer. Fox took a look to the side and saw Kayrin sitting on one of the chairs. A picture of the young fox lying in his own blood was recalled into his mind. He was certain that the roo didn't want anything to happen to him again but he wondered if Chris was maybe being a bit over protective. "Alright. But on your own head be it."

"Thank you." Fox walked off and the roo rejoined the canid. Patting Kayrin's shoulder, he leaned in close and whispered into his ear. "Swords." The fox nodded and stayed where he was while Chris went out of the room and towards the dorm to collect them.

Ryan was standing in the opposite end of the room, looking at his reflection in the mirror. Carefully looking around to make sure no one was watching, Ryan pulled down the collar of his jacket and examined the black marks on his neck. He touched one of them gingerly with two fingers and started getting worried. He remembered his fight with Inura and the burning sensation on his neck. Back then, they were nothing more than black marks he thought would have disappeared, but they didn't. Instead, the marks were changing. He tried to look at every area of his neck possible to see what was happening. As he looked at the glass, he saw something coming to be and at his best guess, it looked more like some kind of ancient language. It wasn't just in that one little spot, it was starting to appear all around his neck, various shapes and letterings.

[What the hell is this? What did you do to me Inura?!]

"Are you okay?" Ryan turned and quickly sorted his collar before turning to see the person who caught his attention. Krystal stood in front of him with a worried look on her face.

"Yeah."

"No your not." The vixen moved forward and pulled down the collar of the human's jacket. "Ryan. . .what is this?"

"I. . .I don't know."

Krystal looked intently on the marks. It had gone all around his neck, making it look like he was wearing a small collar. The markings confused her, she'd never seen such things before in her life. With one of her hands, she touched the black markings before her eyes went wide with pain. With a muffled scream, Krystal pulled her hand back quickly and held it.

"Krystal, are you okay?" Ryan asked.

Through gritted teeth, the fox looked up. "Yes." After a few moments, she let go of her hand but she could still feel the pain in her limb. With a cautious approach, she took another look at the markings. They remained unchanged. "I don't know what that was Ryan, but we better get it sorted."

"I know."

She sighed and shook her hand, now free of the pain. "Why didn't you tell me about it?"

"I didn't want to worry any of you."

"Ryan, when did it appear?"

"After my battle with Inura."

"Those robed people?" Ryan nodded. "Maybe we should ask Peppy about it. Or Nordic, I'm sure he'd be able to figure it out."

"Yeah."

"First things first. We're going to tell Fox about those marks then we'll decide what to do."

"We're still looking for Vincent right?"

Krystal made to walk away from the human but she stopped when Ryan asked her that. With a concerned look, she spoke. "After what I just felt, I don't know."

"Krystal. Vincent's my friend, I'm not going to stay behind."

The vixen sighed, she didn't need to read his mind to know that nothing would prevent him from going. She looked at her hand and wondered what could happen if anyone touched the black marks on Ryan's neck. Still, Ryan was capable of looking after himself and he would be of great help if there was a Claxan member in the area. "Well be careful." Although hesitant, Krystal moved in close and gave the human a soft kiss on the cheek. "I don't need to hear you going missing in the forest either."

"Don't worry about me. And aren't you coming?"

"I am. But we cover more of the forest if we split up. But first, we talk with Fox."

Ryan nodded and looked at the centre of the room where General Pepper now stood. He was too busy talking with Fara to even notice him walking by. Reaching the rest of the Star Fox team, Krystal started explaining about the marks before Peppy dragged him away from everyone else.

The hare looked at them closely and remained puzzled. "I've never seen such symbols." The hare was about to touch them until Krystal grabbed his hand and explained why.

"So wait, we cant touch Ryan?" Falco asked. Even Fox was waiting for an answer and Krystal just rolled her eyes.

[Boys.] "I think its safe as long as we don't touch those marks." She told them.

"Maybe we should tell everyone else?" Slippy suggested.

"No. Not until we understand it." Fox said to them.

Falco however moved up and smiled at the human. "Ryan."

"What?"

"Oh nothing." Without warning, the blue bird hit the human's arm and Ryan looked at him. "That's for not telling us earlier. I‘d have hit you elsewhere but-"

"I get it." Ryan said while massaging his arm.

"Everyone." All eyes in the room focused on General Pepper. Just as he was about to say something, Chris returned with two sheathed swords and the dog began to eye the roo. Chris said nothing and stood next to Kayrin, handing him his weapon.

"Alright everyone, listen up. We're going to be breaking you all into teams to search the forest for your friend Vincent Kiba. We don't exactly know what has happened but I want you all to take all necessary precautions and be ready to defend yourself. Once you find Mr. Kiba, contact the other groups and we'll all meet up."

"So wait, where's Wolf and his gang?" Falco asked.

"We don't need to send everyone Falco. If need be, we'll contact Wolf." Falco just rolled his eyes at what the general said. "Now, if you are all ready."

"Lets go everyone." Fox shouted. Everyone started following the Star Fox leader out of the room and towards the main lobby of the building.

When they stood outside, Tri looked up towards the sky. Dark rain clouds were now covering the entire city and the cat tugged his jacket a little. "Looks like its going to rain."

Without any more words, the group made their way towards the forest. Tri was right about the weather, the rain was coming down hard and as they got to the forest, everyone started either pulling up hoods or just making sure their equipment was functioning properly. Arriving at the forests edge, they all got out of the vehicles and started screwing up their faces as the rain pelted them.

"Alright everyone, you all know your teams. We'll each take a section of the forest and conduct a search! Check your maps if need be!" Fox shouted over the rain. Strong winds were starting to blow and he wished that they could have had better weather for this. "Lets go. Falco, go with Ryan's team."

"I got it." Falco stood beside Ryan. The human's team consisted of Kayrin, Chris, Tri and Kenji. They were assigned to check the cabin and target area and a small part of the forest surrounding it. "Okay you lot, lets get moving before we're soaked."

"We already are Falco!" Ryan shouted back at him, his clothes now almost drenched from the torrential rain.

"Just get moving." They all followed Falco into the thick masses of trees. The wind was blowing strong, almost as though it was trying to remove them from the ground. Once they were down steep slope, Falco walked along the now wet path. They were all glad that the rain wasn't as heavy thanks to the amount of trees sheltering them. Following Falco, everyone remained silent not exactly sure what to expect. As they weaved in and out of the trees, Kenji found himself tripping face first into the ground. He grumbled a little but as he looked up, he saw Kayrin offering his hand. Taking it into his own, the tiger stood up and tried to wipe the mud off his face. Once he did that, the feline looked around himself before his eyes settled on the fox.

"Thanks."

"No problem."

"Umm. . .guys? What are you standing in?" Ryan asked as he neared the two. In seconds, everyone was now with them and both Kenji and Kayrin looked around. They slowly got out of the sunken ground and were now level with the others. Whatever the tiger fell in, it was huge.

"Have they been digging here?" Chris asked.

"No." Tri responded. The silver furred cat had started to walk around the entire mark and stopped at one place.

The whole group looked at the imprint left in the ground. Falco studied it carefully but couldn't make much sense of it. He joined Tri's side and moved back a little trying to get a view of it from a higher place. "Geez laweez, what is that?"

"A footprint." The cat said.

"You might want to take a look from up here." Chris had moved to the top of the slope and was looking across the entire forest floor that was in front of his eyes. He was soon joined by the others and they all stared at it.

"Okay now I‘m interested."

They all looked at the forest floor. There were other large footprints, all of them heading towards the slope. Ryan looked back at the edge of the forest, but he couldn't see any more of them. Turning his head back, Ryan rubbed his neck as he felt a small twinge of pain.

"What do you think it is?" Chris asked the group. With all the rainfall and dead leaves littering the ground, some of the imprints were starting to fade.

The human moved back down and looked at the one Kenji had fallen in to. Kneeling down, it didn't take him long to think of an answer but Ryan couldn't even bring himself to believe it. "It looks like a dinosaur footprint." Ryan said. He heard the other's reaction, none of them believed him but he chose to ignore that. With a quick glance around the area, he thought to himself. [Man, this is just screaming Jurassic Park] He thought.

"The only dinosaurs around are on Sauria." Tri told him. Ryan nodded, remembering when he woke up on the dinosaur filled planet and fell down a cliff. Thinking back on it now, he was glad he never ran into any predators.

"Probably a fake. Made by those guys who built the place." Falco said without much enthusiasm. He walked back down the hill and waved for everyone to come with him. The others weren't quite sure what to make of this. Chris handed the tiger his phone and told him to take a picture of it in any case and Kenji did so without so much as a word before he handed it back to the roo. Still they all followed the blue avian along the path.

Kayrin however didn't move and continued to look at the impression in the earth. "I've seen this before." A sound filled Kayrin's ears and he remained still. The fox's eyes darted around the area as he tried to find the origin of the noise. However, he stopped and he felt his breathing grow sharper and heavier. It caused him to clutch his chest, digging his claws into his fur right where his heart was. Kayrin felt himself getting short of breath and he gave a few coughs, he felt sick, the whole forest was now spinning and going black. He gave a small whine before falling to the ground.

Kayrin awoke and saw the crimson sky above him again. The sickness and dizziness he felt still remained with him but he was thankful he could breath properly. He continued to lie there, hoping that his nauseating feeling would go away. It wasn't long until he pushed himself onto his knees. He wiped the away the water in his eyes and tried to think what was going on. The sound of distant thunder filled his ears and he jumped up quickly. Kayrin's eyes took in his surroundings and his ears flattened against his skull when he realised where he was again. The ruined buildings were around him again and they still remained devoid of any life.

"Where am I? Why are the dreams coming back?!" He kneeled onto the floor and closed his eyes. He had hoped the one he had before with the dark giant was only a one time thing but it was clear to him now that it wasn't. He cursed them. He loathed them with a passion. Ever since he was a cub, dreams filled with nightmares and crimson skies had haunted him. And it always hurt once he woke up. He did have a few years peace from them at one time, but the fact that they were coming back did nothing to comfort him. It only made him recall the years of pain and terror he felt.

The sound of claws hitting a stone ground alerted him to a presence. Stones were rolling across the ground as they were dislodged from their positions. Kayrin focused his ears and he could hear something sniffing the air behind him, grunting and roaring out sharp cries. The fox stayed frozen to the spot, his heart was now racing and the source of the sound moved ever closer to him. The sound of the footsteps grew louder and a large foot slammed on the ground next to him. He wanted to run, just run and find a safe place to hide . . .or better, to escape this place, but he couldn't command his body to do a single thing. He carefully looked to the side and immediately knew this thing was feral. Scales covered the limb and three very large black claws clacked against the stone. The thing moved closer to him and nudged him a little. Kayrin did his best not to make a sound or any sudden movements but he couldn't help but shudder as it sniffed him. The creature's breath wreaked of decaying flesh and blood and the canid had to prevent himself from gagging.

[Just go away. . .go away]

It didn't. The creature uttered a numerous amount of high-pitched barks and it wasn't long until more of the same creature arrived to join it. He couldn't tell how many they're were or what kind of species they were exactly, but they were all keen to figure out what he was. . .or if he was edible. They all started inhaling his scent and the fox was now petrified. One of them opened their maws and brushed its sharp serrated teeth against his fur.

Kayrin looked at them and saw the yellow eyes stare back at him. With a chorus of barks, the creatures ran off into the distance. Hesitantly, the fox stood up and wondered what was going on. His feet started moving on their own yet he didn't object to it. He was curious as to why they didn't rip him apart. He soon found his answer and the fox stood there, horrified.

A robed man was holding someone in his grip. The victim was struggling desperately, thrashing his legs around as he was dangled above the creatures that surrounded the fox earlier. Each of the feral monsters tried to jump at him, their jaws snapping shut just mere inches from the captive's feet. The man laughed and looked at his helpless victim, uttering a few words.

"This is a true world. Between predator and prey. And you. . .you're just prey." With a sadistic smile, the robed man threw his victim to the ground. Screams were heard as the feral creatures jumped on top of him, ripping him open to get at his warm insides.

Kayrin gulped at the sight before throwing up onto the ground. The agonising screams filled his ears and the fox just broke down into tears. He hated this place, he wanted to know why this was happening to him. He looked back and found that the screams had stopped but he couldn't bare to watch the feral creatures turning the once living man into a meal.

"You are prey." He looked up and his eyes grew wide. All he saw was large teeth a black hole coming at him. He screamed.

His eyes opened wide with shock. Kayrin looked around himself and saw that the rest of the group were nowhere to be seen. He stood up shakily, feeling a cold sweat all over his body. The dream remained vivid in his mind and he just wanted to be rid of it. However, something else caught his attention. He moved his hand towards his mouth and wiped away what he thought was dirt or mud, instead, it was vomit. He looked at the forest floor and saw it in amongst the dirt and leaves. Kayrin tried to take a deep breath but the taste of vomit lingered in his mouth making him gag.

"Kayrin!" He looked for the origin of the voice and saw Chris walking towards him. He moved forward, trying to make it seem like nothing was wrong. "What have you been doing? We all thought you wandered off."

"Sorry. I just. . ."

"The footprints?" Kayrin nodded. "Something wrong kit?" Chris asked.

The fox opened his mouth, but he had to force the words out. "I just don't like it here."

"There's mud all over you, what happened? Kayrin, you look pale."

"I'm fine. And I just fell."

Chris shook his head and grabbed Kayrin's hand. "I don't want anything bad happening to you. I care about you kit."

"I know."

"Now you're going to stay with me. We better catch up with the others. Oh, and Falco's kinda pissed off at you right now."

"Great." Kayrin mumbled. As he walked with Chris, he couldn't help but take a last glance at the footprint. The dream flashed in his mind and it sent a shiver down his spine. Chris felt it and asked if he was cold before pulling him close.

Once they rejoined the group, Kayrin received a lecture off Falco about how they should stick together in case someone really did come along. Once he walked off, the fox sighed knowing that he wasn't going to be in the bird's good books for a while. Ryan smiled at him and told him not to worry about it.

When they arrived at the cabin, Falco and Tri dashed forward, looking for a dry place. When they got to the main door however, they found it was already open. They stepped inside and both of them stood horrified. Tri had to turn away and place a hand over his mouth as he dry heaved. Kenji stood next to the smaller feline and rubbed his back before receiving a nod from him. The others caught up and they all had to look away. Kenji moved away from Tri and walked into the cabin, looking around the room with each step. He saw the blood and gore was all over the room, even the ceiling was covered in the crimson red stuff.

"Holy. . ." The tiger couldn't believe he was seeing such things. Neither could his mind begin to understand how these people died or who was the one capable of such a mindless killing.

"Guys!" They all ran out except for Falco. Feeling rain on their faces again, they looked around for the person who shouted. Chris stood over something and as they approached, they say what he called them over for.

"What the fuck?!" Just like the others in the room, a body had been torn and what they stood over was only the top half of what once was a man.

"None of them are Vincent." Falco said from behind them. "The rest of his body is just over there." He pointed at the wall of the cabin and they all saw it.

"What happened to them?" Kayrin asked as the dream flashed in his head again. [You are prey.] Those words echoed inside his mind and filled his ears, and he tried desperately to think of something else.

Falco kneeled down and took a closer look at the damage he could see. "This wasn't caused by any sort of weapon, at least not that I can think of."

"What could do that kind of damage?"

"A dinosaur?" Chris suggested.

"The footprint is probably fake." Falco answered. He got up and grabbed his communicator. "Lets just hope Vincent didn't meet the same fate as these guys did."

He felt warm. He couldn't feel any pain. Darkness surrounded him in a comforting embrace. He tried opening his eyes but they refused, keeping him blanketed in the world of shadows. He wanted to know where he was and he started talking to himself.

"Am I dead? Is this what death's like?" He felt so calm and relaxed but he could feel something warm running down his face. "Reno. . .Spike. . .I cant leave them. Never!"

"Why don't you open your eyes then?"

He wanted to know where the voice came from but as he tried, he realised he couldn't manage it. "I cant. Who are you?"

He heard a soft chuckle and then something warm over his face again. "Just open your eyes."

The world of darkness left him as a dim light hit him. He saw green above him and his ears picked up the sounds of a crackling fire and the heavy downpour of rain. He would have looked around but leaving his safe darkness had brought him into a world of pain. He screamed but it was cut short as a hand kept his maw shut. He looked and saw a white furry arm that belonged to a wolf with sapphire eyes.

"Try not to scream wolf brother." Carefully, the white wolf took his hand away. "What's your name?"

"V-Vincent. W-What do you mean. . .b-brother?" He managed to choke out. The pain was nearly killing him but he felt the white wolf's hand run across his chest. The grey wolf whined in pain and he heard the other canine move around.

"We are both wolves are we not? That makes us brothers."

"I have no idea what you're fucking talking about." Vincent said through gritted teeth. "We're not brothers."

The white wolf leaned over him and gingerly ran a finger over his body. "Broken ribs. Broken collarbone. Shattered leg. Deep bite wounds. Blood loss. Bruising. Maybe a concussion and a punctured lung."

"What?"

"The injuries you have."

Vincent looked down his body. All his clothes were gone, leaving him exposed to the white wolf but he was soon distracted when he saw the deep holes in his leg. Before he uttered a word, the white wolf had started grinding something into a mortar. "What are you doing?"

"Trying to keep you alive brother."

"Shut up. I'm not your brother. I don't even know who the hell you are!"

"That's not important right now. The thing is, you could die. I‘m still amazed that you‘re even breathing right now."

Vincent snarled at him. "Then what are you doing?"

The white wolf stared at him with cold eyes. "You should be more thankful to the person who saved your life. You're lucky I didn't take a different route or you would have been eaten."

"Eaten?" Vincent thought about it and it wasn't long until it all came back to him. He remembered it in flashes, the dead bodies, the robed man, the giant creature and those large teeth. Instinctively, he tried to get up but it only resulted in him groaning in pain and feeling two arms hold him to the ground.

"Stay still."

"You're fucking mad! That thing could still be here! I have to get out of here."

The white wolf calmed him by holding him gently. "So that's why you're still alive. Pure will power." He let Vincent go and returned to the mortar. "You mentioned the names Reno and Spike. Who are they?"

"None of your business."

"Hmph. I'd thought you'd be more grateful. I did save you after all."

"Don't kid yourself. You could NOT stop that thing, whatever the hell it was!"

"It was the Predator." The white wolf said as he continued grinding the contents of the bowl into a powder. "The Predator is ruthless. Nothing more than a killer."

"Predator? You mean that thing that attacked me?"

"Yes. It was unfortunate for you to be fated to meet him. That fact that you're still alive only proves how lucky you are."

"Luck?"

"I assume you fought him?" The white canid asked. Vincent nodded. "You're a fool."

"A fool?"

The white wolf scoffed and gripped his equipment hard, grinding all of the bowls contents. "You are just asking for death to come and claim you."

"I didn't start the fight. He attacked me."

"Then that proves my concerns." The white wolf added some water to the mortar along with another few items and started grinding it again. After a few seconds, he grabbed what was Vincent's underwear and turned it into a ball.

"Dude. That's my underwear."

The white wolf held it above his maw. "You might want to bite into this. It's going to hurt."

"Wait. . .what will hurt?!"

The white wolf pushed the garment into Vincent's mouth and held the mortar in his hands. "I am truly sorry brother, but please try not to move."

With his only good arm, the grey wolf pulled the underwear out of his mouth. "What is that stuff?"

The unknown wolf stopped. "A herbal healing remedy. It cleans out the wounds and helps the body to heal. The only drawback is that its painful."

"Don't you put that on me!"

"You are a wolf, brother! Our kind are brave and show no fear."

"You've lost it."

"Bite into the garment."

"Or what?" The white wolf ignored him and poured the mixture that was in the mortar onto the grey wolf's leg. As soon as it hit his wound, Vincent screamed louder than ever. He tried to get up but he felt something hold him down. He looked at the white wolf and saw that his palm was facing him. He didn't care about it though as he screamed in agony. When the flow did stop, the grey wolf continued to groan in pain.

"I told you to bite it."

"FUCK YOU!!! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING TO ME!?!?! ARE YOU FUCKING TRYING TO KILL ME!!!!"

The hand wrapped around his muzzle again and the white wolf leaned in close. "Bite your tongue. I'm doing my best to help you brother. It does hurt, but it will keep your leg free of any infections and it may keep you alive for a little longer! I need to do the same to your shoulder too." Vincent muffled in protest but his so called healer just stroked his head. "I know it hurts. But please bear with me." In seconds, Vincent felt the scolding substance over his shoulder causing him to scream in pain. They were muffled as the white wolf kept his hand wrapped around his muzzle and Vincent just wanted it to be over. He got his wish but he still felt the pain.

"You do that to me again, I'll kick your fucking ass. . .brother!" Vincent growled as the white furred hand left his face.

The white wolf didn't respond and instead got up. "Try not to move from the shelter."

"Where are you going?" Vincent asked as the other wolf walked off.

"To get wood for the fire."

"You cant leave me here alone. What if that thing comes back!?"

The wolf stopped and Vincent stared into his sapphire blue eyes. "He wont be back, not for a while yet. Just don't move."

"But-" The white wolf walked off until he was out of sight. "You fucking jerk!" He groaned in pain. As he lay still, he saw his clothes hanging on a branch and he could see why the other wolf took them off him. They were covered in blood and he could see the number of holes in them. The image of those teeth flashed into his mind again and he clenched his eyes shut trying to banish anything to do with that monster. When he did open his eyes, he started to wonder if he was alone again. He was tempted to look, just to make sure that it wasn't around. Carefully and slowly, Vincent looked out into the forest through the shelter‘s opening. He couldn't help but feel like it was still there, waiting to claim him. He wanted out of this god damned place and into the arms of his dragon Reno.

[Fuck this!] He thought. Despite what he was told, Vincent moved and groaned loudly as he tried to drag himself towards the opening of the shelter. His hands dug into the ground as the pain brought tears to his eyes.

"Vincent!" He looked up and knew the voice from somewhere. "Vincent!" More voices were heard and the grey wolf dragged himself to the opening.

"GET ME THE FUCK OUTTA HERE!!!!" He shouted.

"Vincent where are you?!"

Digging his hands further into the dirt, the grey wolf let out a groan as his wounded body made contact with the wet ground. He looked forward and saw them just behind some trees not far away. "I'm over here you fucking idiots!" With that, his head dropped to the ground and the grey wolf started gasping for breath.

"We found him!" Numerous footsteps came closer to him and he lessened his grip on the forest floor. When they all got to him, he looked up and he was relieved to see familiar faces.

"Vincent, my god what happened to you?" Kuro asked him. The black fox took off his own jacket at used it to cover the wolf.

Vincent however looked into the eyes of the person in front of him. Fox McCloud looked at him hoping for an answer as to what happened. Instead, Vincent just grabbed Fox's jacket and held on tightly. "Get me out of here. Before it comes back."

"Before what comes back?"

"Just get me out!"

"We'll handle questions later. Lets get him out of here." Fox ordered, but before they could do anything, a voice was heard and they all turned around.

"What are you doing to him? He's injured." Their eyes set on a white wolf with sapphire eyes wearing what looked to be a monks robe. "You cant move him."

Reno stood in the hallway watching the wolf he cared for being taken into the emergency room. He clenched his fist and kept asking himself why he was not there with him.

"You're worried about him."

Reno looked and saw Peppy standing next to him. "Of course I am." The dragon brought his hand over his face. "I want to know who the fuck did this to him."

"Settle down. You're angry, that's natural. But we still have no idea who or what attacked him."

"Why are you here anyway?" Reno asked, looking down on the hare.

"I heard about his injuries and a white wolf who was sheltering him in the forest. I wanted to know what happened."

"A white wolf?"

"Yes. Currently, he's been taken to be interviewed by the general." Reno thought about this new piece of information and stormed off. "Where are you going?" Peppy shouted at him but the dragon didn't respond. He was only after one thing right now.

All three of them laughed at him as they sat in the bar. Ruken snarled at all of them but Inura leaned forward.

"Are you just trying to humour us Ruken? An Azlerian?" Inura shook his head.

"Looks like the mighty Predator got beat by. . .oh what was it again . . .a little wolf?" The bar's creator asked.

"I should just kill you all right now."

"Upset?" The once silent man asked, sipping at his glass of wine.

"I'm telling you, there is an Azlerian on this planet! That means there is more!"

The creator of the bar shook his head. "You're right. There are Azlerian's on this planet. And I'm looking at all of them."

"Ruken." Inura started. "We are the last of the Azlerian's. You should know that better than anyone."

"Don't you think I know that?!" He roared. "But it doesn't change the fact that there is one on this planet!"

"Perhaps you were mistaken?"

"I was not! I'd know that fighting style anywhere!"

"Okay." The creator of the bar moved round and smirked while circling the tyrannosaur. "Lets say there is. Why didn't you kill him?"

"I didn't expect to see one. I thought we killed them all. Five fucking millennia ago!" The man stopped circling him and moved away from Ruken.

"Maybe you were just being delusional. Or that little grey wolf did kick your ass."

Ruekn snarled loudly, baring his teeth at the man in front of him. Both Inura and the once silent man were watching them. [Perhaps another fight between them?] They both thought.

"Aw, what's wrong? Is the little dino upset he didn't get to eat his meal?"

Ruken clenched his fist and the pupils in his eyes changed back into a black slit. "Perhaps you'd like to take his place."

The man chuckled. "No thanks. I'm not into vicious, bloodthirsty dinosaurs."

"You better watch yourself. Or will kill you."

"Oh, I'm so scared." With that comment, Ruken lunged his head forward to bite his associate, but he snapped his jaws shut just centimetres away from his face. The man didn't even move a muscle, instead, he just smiled at the dinosaur in front of him. Without another word, Ruken turned and left the room, slamming the old door behind him.

"You enjoyed tormenting him, didn't you?" Inura asked his associate, watching him walk back to the bar.

"The bastard pisses me off. So what if I sleep with men. As long as he stays away from them."

"If he doesn't?"

"Then it wont be a pretty sight. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have another date with that lion boy."

The man placed his glass down on the counter. "My, a second date. That's a first for you isn't it?"

"Some men are better than others. Plus, there's just something about that kitty I really like."

"His cock? Or his ass?" Inura asked him.

"Hmm. . .both." Giggling, the man ran out of the room. "He is beautiful. He's taking me to a restaurant." The man stopped and turned, a little puzzled by what he just said. He looked at the other two in the room and spoke. "What is a restaurant exactly?"

"A place where you eat food."

He snapped his fingers and smiled. "Of course. I forget, all these planets call them different things. Its hard to remember a specific one."

As he walked out, the man picked up his glass again and brought it to his lips. "Fucking dumb ass." He downed the glass and looked at Inura who was moving his hands about over the table. Getting off his stool, he walked towards him. "What are you doing?"

"Why do you care?" Inura snapped back.

He didn't reply and instead focused on what his fellow zealot was doing. He raised his eyes and spoke. "Ahhh, I haven't seen one of those in ages. So, who's soul are you burning?"

Inura chuckled. "He has uses. I see what he sees and I can learn everything about him. Already a few more souls have appeared." Inura pointed at the black marble where all the shadow replica's floated in mid-air.

"You're right. Some new ones. However, you do remember what that spell does to the host?"

"Why do you think its nicknamed ‘Soul Burner'? Once he's past his usefulness-" Inura clenched his fist and a bright blue flame covered his entire hand. "-then I'll kill him."

"I see." Leaving Inura to his spells, the once silent man walked out of the room. "I'm going to my chambers. While gay boy is gone, I might actually get some sleep."

Inura paid no attention to him, he was only focused on the spell.

Light sat in the corner of the room. He was sure that this was the kind of thing that his elder wanted him to avoid. The white wolf didn't like the room he was in, it was too small, he preferred wide open area's like the temple's grounds. Already he missed the familiar faces but until he completed his task, he had to remain here. What he had seen already meant he wouldn't be going home anytime soon.

He carefully looked around the little room and his eyes focused on the wall. Someone was there, watching him. He didn't need to see them, he could sense their presence. Light wondered if they were looking through his belongings. Even if they were, the scrolls would probably be too difficult to decipher for them, but then again, the wolf wasn't sure about that.

The white wolf sighed, remembering the group holding him and placing a weapon at his head before it silenced him. The weapon itself was a curious item that he had never seen before, as where many things in this city. Large buildings and many people wearing odd clothing.

Light stood up quickly and focused on the wall. Someone was attempting to look into his mind. He calmed himself quickly and prepared himself.

On the other side of the wall, Krystal opened her eyes and sighed. "Anything?" Fox asked her.

"I. . .I cant get in. He wont let me. Plus, I think he knows where here." She pointed at the one way mirror and they all looked in. The white wolf was looking at them, not taking his eyes of them.

"He doesn't look happy." Slippy said.

"What gave that away Slippy?" Falco said sarcastically. "And I cant do anything with this." The blue avian tossed the white wolf's bag onto the floor. "All he's got is a bunch of paper and little boxes. And I cant understand a thing on them."

"We'll get Peppy to have a look at them later."

"By the way, where's Ryan gone too?" Fox asked.

"The General doesn't want Ryan near the wolf." Slippy replied.

"Why? Its not like the wolf is a threat. It looked like he was trying to help Vincent."

"We just cant be sure of that Fox. Not until Vincent is better. Besides, for all we know, the Claxan may be using this guy." Falco said, taking a seat next to Krystal.

"Do you really think he did it?" Krystal asked.

"I'm not sure." Fox began. He looked at the white wolf in the room and folded his arms. "Until we know, he has to stay in that room."

"Do you think Vincent's okay?" Kayrin asked, wrapping the towel around his waist.

"Yeah. He doesn't seem like a guy to give up easily." Chris answered, drying his fur. Keeping the towel around his neck, he looked at the fox before moving up to him and cuddling him from behind. "Are you feeling okay?"

"Huh? Oh. . .yeah."

"You're sure?" The fox nodded. "Kayrin, you know you can tell me anything."

"I'm okay Chris, really." Kayrin smiled at the roo, hoping he would stop with the questions. Yet, he still wondered if he should have kept the dream a secret.

"Alright." Chris nuzzled the fox and held him close. "But if anything is bugging you, let me know."

"I will." The two kissed and continued drying their fur. Once they were done, the two walked back into the main room and sat on the bed together. Cuddling in close to each other, Kayrin smirked and looked at his guardian. "Hey, why were you going to tell Vincent?"

"I was gonna. But you stomped on my foot."

"What exactly were you going to say to him?"

"You told me yourself you had a crush on him." The fox blushed a little. "And that you'd like to be in his bed." Chris said while grinning.

"It was a crush. You tell him, you're dead."

"Come on, have you ever asked him? Tried to find out anything about him?"

The fox sighed a little and lied back. "No. He's all tough and practically the best shooter around. Me, I was just a quiet little fox trying to do well in his studies, hardly talking to anyone."

"Scared?"

"Yeah."

"You don't know what would have happened."

"Yeah. He'd have punched me. Not just him, anyone would have."

Chris scratched the fox's head and pulled him in closer to him. "Kayrin, not everyone's out to hurt you. You wont gain anything if you keep quiet about it."

"I guess."

"Hey, any more crushes you had as a student?"

"A few." Chris raised his eye but Kayrin pushed his head away. "And I'm not telling you."

"Oh alright. Ruin my fun."

Kayrin giggled but he stopped and looked up at the ceiling. "I hope Vincent's okay. Do you mind if we go see him tomorrow?"

"Course we can kit. He's your crush after all."

"That was two years ago Chris."

The fox rolled over and Chris just hugged him from behind before pulling the bed covers over them. Once they said goodnight, Kayrin remembered that day.

It was like a normal day for him then, going to classes and learning about many things. He was a decent student, he got good grades and studied properly yet he still rarely talked to anyone. The fox was scheduled to go to the shooting range and as he walked in, a grey wolf was already obliterating every single target. He was instructed to use the same area as Vincent and that they would take it in turns. Vincent watched his shooting all the time and would then easily out do him. The wolf never said much but Kayrin liked him. Over time, they would be in similar classes, in most cases shooting and combat training but a word was seldom ever spoken.

The time when he realised that he liked the wolf was after a combat training class, everyone was instructed to use the showers and the fox couldn't help but sneak a few looks at the wolf. He found himself wanting to go stand next to him, talk to him, maybe more, but he never did. He was just too frightened. It had always been like this. In just a few short months, Kayrin gave up on his little crush, knowing it would never amount to anything.

Sighing, Kayrin tugged the covers a bit. It was always like that, whether it was Vincent or people he knew before he even came here. He shifted around in the bed and looked at Chris. The roo was now sleeping peacefully.

[Lucky bastard] Smirking a bit, Kayrin cuddled into the kangaroo and closed his eyes. [I'll see Vincent tomorrow]
