#6 of Swords That Bind

And the pieces of the puzzle begin to come together.

Samis walked up to the Dromantis while I stayed near the exit. Outside I could see the Dromantis slowly dispersing, one or two giving some very suspicious looks before they did so. Up at the counter, I heard Celiana speaking. "Excuse me sir. We are emissaries of Azuri and it's nearby systems, and we were told you might be able to help us." The tapping, clicking stopped, to be followed by the indignant clicking of the Dromantis speaking.

"This is a private building, you should not be in here." Celiana ignored this."We would like your assistance in locating an old temple that was built about four hundred years ago on this planet." "I know of no such place." "Then will you at least let us look through the histories on the scrolls in your care? The temple holds important information that we require." "No." the librarian said firmly," These scrolls are forbidden to outsiders to touch. Leave these premises."

"Well," said Samis, pulling back his cloak, revealing his draconic muzzle and wings. Dust swirled and rippled in little eddies around the dirty shelves as his wings beat the air," if we're not allowed to touch them, then I suggest you do, before I get angry." The reply was something along the lines of "eep" as the Dromantis disappeared underneath the counter, hiding from the dragon. Samis reached down and hauled the librarian out by a hindleg. Dangling the wriggling insect upside down by one leg, Samis fixed him with a level gaze.

"Kraven himself funded this temple, little Dromantis, and I am of his bloodline. The information I require is in the temple. I will let you down if you tell me where it is." I looked out the door again to see if any of the locals could see this, but they were no longer paying attention outside, as if we were no longer interesting. The librarian swayed back and forth, no longer struggling. "Scroll! Scroll last week!" he chittered in a high pitched voice of panic. "Talked about old church ruin in mountains. Long way from here. Entered data, then put it back on shelf!"

Samis let the Dromantis down relatively gently, and as the insectoid got back up, it moved back behind the counter and started typing urgently. Samis stepped around to look over the creature's shoulder, and then there was a sigh of satisfaction. "Ah." "Good news, sir?" I asked. "It says that there is an old temple that answered to their god up in the mountains. The truly religious of them make the trek up there to pray once a year."

"That must be quite a sight." I commented. Samis scanned the digital copy of the scroll, and then stepped away from the Dromantis, his wings and tail hiding as the cloak came up, and the disillusionment charm worked it's magic. "I suggest you don't speak of this to anyone, but I thank you for your co-operation." The dragon swept past me regally, and I followed behind as the three of us walked out. "Well, we have five hours or so to wait til we finish refuelling, shall we see the sights of town or go back to the ship?" Samis asked.

"I don't see any sights worth seeing." I commented casually. "There aren't any, trust me." Samis replied with a hint of a grin in his voice. "And besides, you, Facilier, are required to tidy up the mess you made in Kitty's room." I had briefly forgot. I hoped she was still not angry with me. We had significantly less difficulty with the crowd on the return, news travels fast, and arrived back at the dockyard. Samis spoke with the secretary behind the desk about his need to visit the temple for historical information, he didn't say what exactly, and the three of us went back to the ship.

Silver and Acheron had connected the refuelling vehicle to the Dolphin with a long fuel line, and Acheron was next to the display showing how much fuel had been taken on, while Silver was looking at the numbers on the nozzle rig on top of the craft. Samis went to talk with Silver, while Celiana marched past me up the ramp.I moved over to Acheron. "We got what we needed." I said," We're flying to the mountains after this." "Remote location?" the kitty said in interest. I nodded, and he continued " Well, that will be entertaining.Have fun landing her on a hillside." he teased.

"On the subject, has Kitty said a word to you since we left?" "Nah. Imagine she's got checks to do. But relax. She doesn't like surprises, and your flying skill was one. She'll have calmed down by now." "I really hope so." I replied, and walked up the ramp. Stowing my rifle in my quarters, I took off my military jacket and hung it up, before doing the same with my undershirt. Thus topless, I went up to tidy the electrics room.

It could have been worse. All the drawers containing wires had fallen out and the colour coded wires had been scattered across the floor. The railgun had been put back in place, but the nuts and bolts had joined the wires on the floor.A broken phaser pistol was lying in one corner, and several tufts of white fur from a moulting kitty were mixed in with everything. Acheron's side had fared better, most of his stuff had locks on it, or were securely strapped down. This meant he took longer to start tasks, but was not as prone to this sort of accident.

I took a discarded drawer, and started putting discarded nuts and bolts in it by the pawful, so I could go through them individually in a more controlled nature later on. Reading the labels written in Kitty's flowing script, I then started re-coordinating the bundles of wire into their respective categories. I had been at the task for about half an hour when Kitty herself came in. She paused, standing in the threshold, looking at me sitting on the ground, cross-legged with the bolt and nut drawers arranged around me, and the big drawer with the mix in the middle.

"Errr," I began," hi. I see Samis put the railgun back in place." "What?" she began slightly confused," Oh, yes. Easy for him to lift it. When did you get back?" "Our mission didn't take long, just in to ask a librarian about some stuff. He was surprisingly chatty to Samis." "Any bruising?" "No, but I don't imagine he'll want to be upside down again any time soon."

"Then trust me, the Dromantis got lucky. But, why didn't you tell me you were in here?" "Well, you did tell me to tidy it up. I thought you were running checks." The female flushed. "I would have hurried more if I knew." "It's ok, I've got most of it sorted." "I see. It looks considerably more organized than I normally keep it." she giggled. "Military obsessive." "Hoarder." I stuck my tongue out.

"Flyboy." "Stick-in-the-mud." "Reckless fox!" "Messy kitty." "Don't make me call my brother to beat you up." she pretended to pout. "I'm sure your brother has other intentions than violence." I winked playfully.

She burst out laughing. I laughed too. "In which case, I'll keep you to myself, because he'd take all the good spots." she replied with a grin. "Hmmm, that sounds suspiciously like an offer for intercourse, whatever shall I do." I said theatrically. "Accept it?" she replied like a shot. "What about you ending up with foxkitties? That would be a bit of a giveaway." Belvedere paused, thinking about this.

"I don't THINK we're compatible." she said hesitantly. "I don't recall any foxkitties being concieved." "Me neither, but maybe you should check. If not, then I'll impale you on a nice big fox cock repeatedly." She perked up, and then paused, "Well, maybe not when we're needed by Samis." "Indeed. Does the ship have something that we could use to check?" "The automated sick bay has some powerful computers, I could check. But I'd need a sample of your DNA."

We headed down the ladder to the crew bay. It was cream coloured, with several computers and medical beds in the confined space.A wardrobe held a variety of implements, and Kitty took out a strange palm-mounted device. She held my wrist and scanned it, my wrist being bathed in white light. It tingled all the way through my paw, as if it was going numb rapidly. Kitty hmmed and ha-ed as she looked over the information. "The computer is going to run some simulations. Estimated time to finish....THREE HOURS?"

Bel looked depressed. "But I want to have fun now...." she poked her tongue out at the computer, which made no reaction. I consoled her. "Be patient, kitty. " "Yes," said Acheron from the door, causing both of us to jump in fright. He just smiled," The computer is breaking an entire pair of DNA chains and comparing them for similarities and differences. You don't want to have sex and then find out his seed is toxic to sexy kitty, do you?"

"You are officially creepy, Acheron." "I'm on break from refuelling. I came to have lunch and couldn't find Kitty. I find you both here, what do you expect me to think is going on?" "I saw him first." Bel sighed and looked at the little grey progression bar. Acheron laughed. "I wouldn't dare try intrude, Kitty. Though maybe afterwards I can see what the fuss is about." he winked at me. "Or make it a threesome." I played along, "Come on, Kitty, think about it. Big brother cock to suck on, and big foxy cock ramming you from behind."

Bel flushed. Acheron added. "Though you guys may like to keep it down, or at least keep the door closed, anyone could have heard that conversation." he grinned roguishly, shutting the door of the bay and sitting down next to us. "Why? Cee's a prude, Bun-Bun's too shy, DAIN doesn't understand what it is, and Sam and Silver are just too big." "You are wrong in pretty much every respect there." her brother replied. "Now are we having lunch?" Bel sighed and walked out. Acheron looked at her depart, and then looked at me. I shrugged. "Nope, I got nothing. Is this usual?" Acheron laughed. "Silly foxy. Like I don't know you're equally keen to play with her. Please refrain from doing so unless we're on a rest period."

"You mean we actually get rest around here?"I said playfully, and saw the cat smile," Actually, there's a good point, it's about an hour or so til my body expects to go to sleep, does Sam have a schedule?" "He does." the voice of Sam himself came into the room, his hood down. "You guys sleep when you get the opportunity. I imagine you will get some solid Z's after we fly to the temple in a few hours. We'll park down next to the structure and camo up and everyone can get some rest so we're ready for some temple exploration." I saluted, out of habit. "Sounds good, sir." I said to the dragon, but he had looked past me at the medical computer still working on our earlier task. I saw a flicker of an smirk across his face. "You two boys already planning playtime, hmm? I should announce it over the intercom." I flushed hotly in my uniform jacket, but Acheron just smiled. "We're planning a bondage party for you, Sam. Thought having some military might might make it easier tying you down." Samis grinned and stepped around the diminuitive kitty, wings brushing me as one claw ran down Acheron's back playfully.

"Now, now, don't tease the dragon like that, I might take you up on that suggestion. But," he straightened up," you should go have dinner first. You too Facilier. Crew can't have an empty stomach." Both Acheron and myself nodded, and left Samis in the sick bay. I looked at Acheron. "What do you mean everything Kitty said was wrong?"

He gave a knowing smile."If you're a good foxie, I'll tell you later." Cheeky sod. I rolled my eyes, and Acheron laughed, and continued," As we get to know you, you'll get to know us, stranger." he smiled," you can't just learn ALL our secrets in one day." Ok, more fair. "So, what's for lunch?" I asked, following the kitty to the canteen. Turns out what there was was a rather special dispensary. It had access to the food stores, and upon entering specific instructions, it would find, prepare and cook your meal, before placing it on an exit ramp. It was a large black piece of kit that took up one wall, and hummed enthusiastically with power as it worked. Silver sat with me and the two kitties. A four foot cast iron welder was strapped over his back.

"So, what's the gen, Ramon?" he asked inquiringly. "About what?" I said, trying not to meet either of the feline's grins. "We got a location on that temple?" I inwardly breathed out. "Ah, yes. Up in the hills. Samis procured the co-ordinates from the Dromantis librarian with a minimum of collateral damage." "Excellent." the gryphonic creature enthused," One step closer to finding these Sword class vessels. I often wonder what they are like."

Bel giggled and thumped the desk. "I bet they've got hu-uuuge cannons and are bulky." Acheron just leaned back. "Rumour has it they have incredible defensive shields." Silver shrugged. "I just reckon they're big." Acheron winked at me. "Silver's disqualified from the lottery for being a smart arse." Silver just smiled.

"So," I encouraged this bit of conversation," Do you think the decades of civil war has improved current tech compared to these sleeping giants?" Bel grinned. "I hope so. I'd love to fit ALL the brand new cannon designs I've been working on." Silver nodded begrudgingly. "I reckon they'll need a proper refitting before they're ready for combat, but if Samis' diary is any judge, most of the hardwork's been done. Kraven said that the giants were ready to sail in his later entries. Pop out the weapons and shields, tune up the engines and auxiliaries and there we go, modern super cruiser."

Acheron lifted a finger. "Not that that's going to be EASY. Finding it will be easy compared to getting it updated. And if news breaks out that we have one of the legendary ships in a dock somewhere, there are going to be fireworks of the not so happy kind." "So?" Bel argued, " We'd have the super cruiser by that point." "So what do we say if they turn up and the Sword requires work? "Sorry lads, can't fight you today, could we postpone this til, say, Friday in three months?" " Acheron pretended to consult a checklist.

"Fair point, well argued, as usual." Bel muttered. Silver slapped her on the back with a paw. "Don't worry, I'll make sure nothing happens to you kitties. They'll have to go through me first." "That is a great comfort, given how much of you there is." Bel snuggled against the gryphon, wrapping both arms around part of the large male's stomach. Silver returned the cuddle with one huge and hairy arm. The dispensary broke the moment by announcing our food was ready. I had a vegetarian stew, root vegetables, a good hearty, healthy broth, much to the amusement of Bel.

"All the supplies of the ship to choose from, and he goes for soup." "It's stew, and I like it." I replied, blowing carefully on the steam rising from the bowl. Still looked a little hot. "Why's that?" Bel asked. "Cause it's 'stoo good to pass up." Cue a chorus of groans. Silver slow clapped with his enormous paws. Acheron buried his head into one paw, trying to prevent himself from laughing. Samis appeared in the doorway. "We have an airlock, by the way."

"Says the dragon playing round with the intercom." I retorted. Samis just grinned. "Well, he definitely has the terrible puns to be one of this crew." He took a seat, and ruffled my head fur between the ears. "Someone remind Caboose it's lunchtime?" Acheron asked around the table. There was a momentary pause. "I'll do it." I volunteered, and as there was no argument I got up and left the mess. Quickly jogging down to the engine room, I passed the idling engines. It was incredibly silent, just a faint hum from the fuel pumps. I climbed the ladder and entered the gunner's room.

The bunny was fast asleep, slumped over slightly to the right in his chair, his ears splayed low, his body slowly shifting as he breathed. I paused, briefly uncertain as to whether I should approach or not, but the bunny needed to eat like everyone else, and I stepped forwards gently. The bunny did not stir until I was right next to him, and I gently touched the top of his hand, resting on the armrest. "Caboose? Anybody home?"

It was an impressive feat. The bunny woke up like a shot, delivered a palm strike to my wrist and vaulted off the other side of the chair, hiding behind it, his ears and eyes all that looked over the top of it. THEN his brain, in a poor third place, clicked in. "Ramon! God you scared me!I, I, I...I'm so sorry!" His ears splayed downwards in sadness as I clicked my wrist. It stung quite badly, more than I would have expected, and I rubbed it experimentally.

"It's ok, Caboose. I'm sorry for waking you, but it's time for everyone to have lunch, yourself included." "Oh, um, is everyone in the canteen already?" "Yep, we've all placed orders." There was a deep, deep pause. "Ummm, could you get something for me?" the bunny asked, with a look of trepidation on his face.

"On one condition. That I'm allowed to stay and chat with you while we eat." The bunny gave me a shy look, but then nodded. "Thank you, Ramon."
