Shade had been vastly outgunned by troops of the Andromedean Empire in the defence of the Forerunner planet Alpha Centauri. Schlichtinggrad was essentially a mostly residential city, with a National Commissariat building at its center, and a military base with an airport nearby. Warehouses of arms and ammunition, the vehicle, ammunition and arms factories, and a shipyard for building starships were all built on a raised concrete hill, made up the central part of the city, where bunkers with artillery were placed strategically to point down the major thoroughfares, and machine guns for the alleys. The city was literally a citadel surrounded by suburbs, and under this citadel was an "undercity", or an underground section where all the shops, the businesses, and the public places were.
Emmeryn lived in an avenue not far from where he did, so he hung by her window and tapped it gently. She turned her head as Shade opened it with his mind. She smiled. "Hey, sweetheart. Nice to see you." Shade's feet touched the floor as he held Emmeryn's paws and kissed her. She smiled and kissed back. She tried to feel all she could in those kisses.
Shade broke the kiss slowly and looked away. "Something on your mind, Shade?" Shade knew she knew what he was going to propose, but he knew she wanted his honesty. He blushed and looked at her and brought a paw to her muzzle, and rubbed her cheek lovingly. "I love you, Emm... You're so good to me, and no matter what they say at school, I'll always love you."
