#1 of Tinas Story

(This is my first attempt at a story; let me know what you think.....)

The morning dawned cold and grey. Tina rolled over, snug in her bed, pretending she didn't hear the alarm ringing. But only for a moment. Tina realised that she needed to get up. Today was her first day of work. Today was special.

Tina is an anthro, a Poodle-human hybrid. the result of misguided medical research, By the time the experiments ended, there were tens of thousands born. In many cases smart, and some stikingly attractive, fitting into human society proved difficult. They faced barriers everywhere they went. Tina was the first in her family to graduate from a human school, and today, to start a human job.

She shuffled to the bathroom, and turned on the shower. Once it was warm, she slid out of her little cotton nighty, and stepped under the running water. How good it felt! For a moment, she ran her hands over the fine, short white fur that covered her body. She let the water run over her clean shaven face. She kept her beautiful white hair pulled tight in a bun, as she had done it carefully the night before. After her shower, she put on the outfit she had selected the night before- a pink top, a floral print skirt, and white stockings. Black flats went in her bag; she wore sneakers for the bus ride to work. Tina poured coffee into a mug, locked up, and took the long stairs down from her small apartment. Luckily, the bus stop was not far from her building. As she boarded, she recalled how, not long ago, her parents couldn't even ride a bus. Still, Tina stood, so as not to draw the ire of a human, by taking a seat. The twenty mile ride downtown didn't seem to take so long. She got off the bus at the busy downtown terminal, and walked the five blocks to her building.

The state motor vehicle office was a huge glass brick of a building that might have even been attractive when it was built back in the 60's. Today, it wasn't much more than a human cage. Tina walked in the front door, and walked up to a desk clerk: " Can you direct me to the suspensions unit?" she asked politely. The guard, never looking up, pointed to a sign on the wall, showing it was on the fifth floor. Ever polite, Tina said 'thank you' , and headed for the elevator.

Tina was one of a number of new employees starting that morning. She was, however, the only anthro. Still, there wasn't time to think of making friends; she had a job to learn. First, there were mounds of forms to fill out. then there was orientation. Finally, she actually got to start working with the department's computer system. How she loved having a job! Tina had dreamed of this day, from when she was tiny, watching the humans go to work while she played on the porch. At the computer, time seemed to fly. So, it was almost a surprise when she looked up and it was lunchtime.

The department had a huge cafeteria on the ground floor. Most of the departments employees ate there each day. The food was not wonderful, but it was decent, but, more importantly, it was cheap. Cheap enough that even a new employee could eat there. She went through the line, selecting a salad, an apple, and a bottle of water. Leaving the line, she went looking for a place to sit. It was then that Tina noticed that all the anthros sat together, as did the humans. Try as she might, Tina found no room at any of the anthro tables, nor did any invite her over. At last, Tina found a table with a lone human, a young man. Cautiously, Tina approached him.

"Would you mind if I sit here?" she enquired

"uh, er, no....it's OK.....

"My name is Tina; this is my first day. I'm working in suspensions"

" My name's Ray. data processing. Five years, two months, ten days...."

" Do you like it here, Ray?"

" Does anyone?"

"What do you like to do, Ray?"

Slowly, Ray began to smile. "Art" he said. "Would you like to see some of my work?"

Tina smiled shyly, and nodded. Ray turned his laptop toward her, and showed her his album. Tina looked at page after page of wonderous, colorful pictures, of dragons and kingdoms, and all manner of fanciful things.

" Oh Ray, they are so beautiful!" Tina exclaimed.

Once they discovered their common love of computers and art, Ray and Tina had much to talk about. Tina was sad to see the lunch hour end. they said goodbye, and each returned to their officed. Tina had much to do that afternoon, but even though she was still absorbed in her work, she found herself thinking of Ray. You see, Tina had never had a human friend. In fact, she never really had much to do with humans at all. There was something about Ray that was...different, unlike any anthro she had known.

Her first day at an end, Tina clocked out, and headed for the bus. It was now raining, but she came prepared with the new raincoat she had just bought. As she stood at the crowded bus pavillion, she heard someone calling her....

"Uh, can I give you a ride?" It was Ray.

Tina was generally shy and reserved. She was prepared to say no. She surprised herself, when she equivicated....

" That would inconvenience you....."

" No, I'd like to...."

Much to her surprise, Tina accepted his offer. Emboldened by his success, Ray asked her if they could stop for coffee.

"There's this awesome internet cafe nearby, we could get coffee...if you'd like.

Tina didn't answer, but she smiled. They went to the cafe, and talked about many things.....about art, and politics, and things going on in the world.

For his part, Ray noticed how attractive Tina was. Even with her studious glasses, and pulled back hair, she was pretty. Her body was very slim, but firm. He could see a trace of shapely thigh, an perhaps a trace of nipple behind her pretty pink top.

As much as she enjoyed their time, Tina knew she had to get home. She also knew that she couldn't let Ray see the old apartment where she lived. Looking at her watch, she spoke:

" I promised my folks I'd call them when I get in...I guess I'd better go.....

: OK" Ray went to put on his coat...

: No, that's OK; I'm right around the corner....

Tina got up abruptly, and bolted for the door. She paused however, before she did, stopping to give Ray a nuzzle behind his ear. Then she was gone.....
