#1 of New Day

The open window welcomed the sound of chirping birds and bristling leaves on a warm and sunny day. A gentle breeze slipped in, followed by the smell of fresh-cut grass, enough to convince anyone to take a step outside. All around the small room was bathed with sunlight. Everything was still and silent, as if waiting for something to happen. Suddenly the stillness was broken by a stirring in one of the corners of the room, underneath a layer of white sheets.

...

I opened my eyes to the start of a new day, letting the warm sunlight wash over me as I slowly lifted my 15-year old self out of bed. I slowly dragged my feet over to a full-length mirror in the opposite corner, near the window, to pick out today's wear from the stacks of clothes that lay still in front of it. With a pair of gray shorts and a red T-shirt in each hand, I headed to the bathroom for my morning shower.

The warm water running from the shower's nozzle and through my gray coat of wolf fur felt good, especially in the morning, after waking up. My paws ran down from my chest with a bar of soap, past my abs until I reached my sheath. As I gently rubbed it with the soap, I started to get a bit excited from the thought of masturbating before school and felt my shaft start to swell up as the tip started to poke out.

"Oh, what the hell," I sighed. Afterall, it's such a perfect morning. I reached for my now fully-erect shaft, only to be suddenly interrupted by a loud voice that penetrated through my bedroom and bathroom door, over the deafening roar of the shower.

"Fell! Hurry up in there and come downstairs for breakfast or you're going to be late to catch the bus!" It was my mom. She's an overly aggressive fur, you wouldn't want to get in an argument with her, but nonetheless a good provider too.

"Alright, I'll be out soon," I yelled, trying to respond back to her, though I doubt she could hear me. I got out of the shower and dried myself off in a rush, leaving my fur a mess. I headed downstairs after throwing my clothes on.

"Breakfast is on the table," called my mom from the front door, "have a good first day at school," and the front door slammed shut. Both of my parents had jobs, so I didn't get to see them much. Only my mom in the morning and both of my parents late at night.

I looked over at the clock on the kitchen wall and noticed the time. "Shit, 7:42!" I had three minutes left to get to the bus stop! "Matt, grab your things for school," I called as I ran up the stairs to grab my bag.

Matt is my little brother by a many six years.

By the time I got back downstairs, Matt was already waiting for me at the front door. I quickly slipped my shoes on and checked the time... 7:43am. I grabbed my set of house keys that hung from the wall and left the house in a rush, slamming the door shut behind me without locking it.

"Matt, take my paw," I said, reaching out my right paw to him. As soon as I felt him take hold of it, I started to run as fast as I could. Still aware of the fact that I was holding Matt's paw, I tried to keep at a pace that he could keep up with.

We were nearing the bus stop now, probably another fifty meters left, just around the corner that was ahead of us. I was sure we were going to make it until I saw the bus already far in the distance after rounding the corner... Dammit!

"Where's the school bus?" panted Matt, tired and confused.

"I'm sorry Matt, we missed it..." There was a long pause until I lifted Matt up, onto my back. "I'll get us to school," I reassured him, starting to run in the same direction the bus had left.

The extra weight I was carrying in my arms started to slow me down a few minutes later. My arms started to get sore and my legs felt like they were about to collapse. The feeling was killing me, but I kept going at it. We didn't want to be late for the first day of school, otherwise we, or at least I, would get a good verbal beating from our mom.

We finally made it to the school, however missing the first day assembly. I let Matt slide off my back and then I collapsed on all fours, panting furiously for air.

By the time I was able to pick myself up, Matt had already made his way inside to get his schedules. With still ten more minutes before classes start, I made my way inside to get my own schedule.

"Hey, Fell!" I heard a voice call out from behind me.

I turned around to see a 5'6" well-toned wolf with a mahogany coat and ruby-red eyes approaching me, making his way through the crowded hallway, full of disoriented students trying to find their new classes.

"Gilbert! How've you been?" I was happy to see him.

The both of us were now in 10th grade, and we've been best friends for three years. I leapt towards him and wrapped my arms tightly around him, giving him a big bear-hug. He choked and gasped for breath as I clung onto him.

When I let him down, I started laughing, unable to resist grinning widely. "Yep, it's still the same old crazy cub who needs to grow up," he teased, putting emphasis on the word ‘crazy', causing me to grin even wider.

"So what classes are you taking this semester?" I asked him, curious to find out whether or not we had any classes together.

"Oh, I'm not telling you," he said smiling, "you're just gonna have to find out by yourself, won't ‘cha?" It was typical of him to always keep me guessing.

"Ahh," I groaned irritably, "fine, but remember... it's the first day of school, don't get yourself killed by another student." It was my turn now. "I may be the one that's crazy, but you're the one who keeps getting yourself into trouble with everyone else who goes to this school!"

"Pfft," Gilbert scoffed, waving his hand through the air, turning his back to me, "I'll cya later, same place afterschool," he called back over his shoulder, walking away. I stood awkwardly by myself in the middle of the hallway, my gaze directed at Gilbert who was still in sight for a few brief moments. He finally rounded the corner, I let out a long sigh and headed to my first class.

It was a long day, mostly consisting of teachers giving long and boring speeches about their courses and their expectations. Every class was boring, we didn't get to any work; we sat and listened to the teachers talk for hours. I stopped paying attention to their speeches after my second class, because it seemed that every year each teacher was saying the exact same thing. There was one point in which one of the teachers actually had to throw a whiteboard marker at one of the students who had actually fallen asleep.

After a long seven hours of repitition, the school bell finallt rang. I was welcomed back outside by a cool breeze blew through my fur and woke me up. There was no sign of Gilbert as I scanned the schoolgrounds. I checked the time on my cellphone and sat down on the steps for a few minutes. Suddenly, I heard the sound of fast and heavy footsteps behind me. I turned my head over my shoulder to see a cougar, Cameron, sprinting towards me with a worried expression on his face.

"Fell, thank god I found you," he said panting, finally coming to a stop, "Gil... Aaron... figh-" fight was the word I was waiting for to hear and I dashed off to help Gilbert, cutting Kevin off. As I ran I couldn't stop worrying about Gilbert. Aaron's a big fur, and could easily pulverize any other student who went to our school, except for me who was agile enough to dodge any of his moves. The two of us already have a long and violent history.

I arrived at the right-side of the school, just in time to see the two behind a fence; Aaron's big lion-paw around Gilbert's neck, his other paw drawn back and clenched into a fist. Gilbert was struggling to free himself from Aaron's grasp and was already on the verge of tears.

"Hey, what's going on here?" I simply asked, both Aaron and Gilbert turned to face me. I could see Gilbert's face loosen up at the sight of me appearing out of nowhere, a look of relief in his eyes.

"What the fuck do you want?" Aaron asked, letting go of Gilbert's neck and lowering his fist. I slowly approached the high fence from the opposite side they were on and easily climbed over the top and jumped down to the bottom without harming myself.

"Come on Aaron, it was just an accident," Gilbert started, "can I please have it back and we just leave this all behind?"

"What'd you do now Gilb-," I was cut off.

"That little dumbass stepped on and broke the screen of my 3G iPhone," Aaron snarled, now turning to face me. "I had to chase him around the damn school before I caught him, he need to pay!"

"You leave your iPhone on the floor to get stepped on and somehow he's the dumbass?" I said nudging my head towards Gilbert, smiling at the same time. Aaron was starting to turn red in anger and I could see his fists start to clench, but I wasn't worried for myself. I knew I could take him on if he dared to assault me.

Suddenly he lunged out at me, his fist cocked, ready for a punch. I swiftly dodged around him, pulling his wallet out from his back-pocket as I came around.

"Hey, give that back you little fucker," he threatened, "or I'll break the necklace!"

"NO! Please don't!" Gilbert was on the verge of tears again as soon as Aaron stepped next to the side of the busy road, holding the the jade necklace in this right paw, ready to chuck it at the cars.

"Alright," I said quickly, "take it." I tossed his wallet to his feet. However, he grinned evily at us for a while and suddenly jerked his arm back and threw the necklace up high into the air, above the road. I reacted quickly and I ran out to the middle of the street with Gilbert following behind. It was about to hit the ground, but we were just a a bit too far from it.

"I got it!" I yelled as I dived forward and grabbed it while it was a few inches above the ground. I landed roughly on the floor, into a roll. I came to a stop and was on one knee now, the other knee scratched up from the dive.

I smiled at Gilbert as I held his necklace victoriously over my head, in the air, but he didn't return the smile. He was frozen in place, his whole body trembling. Even Aaron had a look of fear on his face.

It was only when I heard a honking sound, followed by the sound of brakes being applied to the wheels of a car a second later did I realize that their attention wasn't focused on me. I turned my head just in time to see a black van just a meter away from me, still moving at high speed.

The last thing I remember was a burning pain all over my body and seeing Gilbert's paws covered with blood. My blood.

"I did it for you..."
