Chapter 1

It was a cool, quiet, but very eerie September night. All that could be heard was the wind gently blowing as the town had mostly retired for the night, as there was still a couple of days left in the work week. No one was out at restaurants or at the bars it was dead quiet. The town of Pretice was a growing city of about seventy-thousand people with about nine to twelve thousand people moving there every year. It was situated along a river and followed a gradual incline that lead to the mountains to the west the further away from the river you went.

Suddenly the sound of tires screeching broke the silence.

"Shit, shit, shit!" I said as I looked in the rear view mirror to see if I was still being followed, and as I did I saw bright headlights turning onto the same empty downtown road.

"Damnit," I hit the steering wheel in frustration, as I think of what to do to get away from my pursuers when I heard the back window shatter, glass flying everywhere a piece grazing the side of my white fur slightly cutting into it causing the birthmarks on my body to change from black and sky-blue to a singeing blood red color, and the sound of gunshots ring out from behind me and I swerve to avoid any more bullets, but one hit my rear tire and caused it to explode in a loud pop, which forced me to turn onto the viaduct that went over part of the projects and then the river that the city was built next to.

The chasing car a dark heavily modded SUV was now on my bumper as we got about a quarter of the way up the massive bridge. I was pedal to the metal but with only one rear tire to push me I was slow at accelerating.

"Come on you fuck, GO!" I yelled as I could hear the rumbling V8 of the SUV bear down on my small 2015 Mitsubishi Evo sportscar - it wasn't just any 4 cylinder Evo either, I had personally upgraded the engine quite a bit to the point it produced about 3 times the original horsepower as I am an engineer in training so it definitely wasn't a slouch I really love it too - I tried swerving to get them to slow down but it didn't work.

My bloody wolf ear twitched back as I heard one of them yelling, "Ram him you dunce," as more gunshots rang out from the SUV with another shot going through the dash and into the engine block.

"FUCK!" I yelled as I could hear the clanking of metal from the engine and I started to lose speed.

As I looked into the rear view mirror for the last time I saw the SUV come smashing into the rear of my car sending me into a half spin putting the passenger door against the front bumper of the SUV all in the matter of what seemed to be milliseconds. I reached for my gun in the passenger seat and as I looked up through the moonroof I could see a black panther leaning out the front passenger window aiming his gun towards me, and I instinctively shot through the glass hitting the windshield of the SUV causing the panther to duck back into the car.

However, that seemed all too short lived when the next thing I heard was the crunching of metal and the realization that I was being spun off the front of the SUV, and into the concrete side wall of the bridge. My car flipped on impact with the concrete causing it to fly up into the air and hit a couple support cables. I was thrown about inside the car and I hit my head against the roof causing me to black out.

The SUV slowed down as the occupants watched my car ragdoll against the side of the bridge, until it came to rest rocking back and forth on the side of the bridge the headlights facing down to the water a couple hundred feet below.

"Go finish him off," a tiger sitting in the backseat growled at the panther in the front passenger seat. The panther did as he was told but when he was about halfway up to my car a creaking crunching nail biting sound came from the car as it started to slide off the bridge and plummet down to the cold river water two hundred feet below.

Returning to the car the panther said, "Looks like he won't be a bother to us anymore boss."

The splash of the car into the calmly running river was the last thing they heard before driving off back to where they came from.

I laid against the steering wheel as the car plunged into the river and water gushed in from the rear window. The cold water immediately woke me up, I looked around dazed and lost as to where I was as I had received what I guessed was a severe concussion from the crash. "Where am I?" I said as I started to gain some of my senses and I noticed the water filling the car very quickly.

"Oh shit!" I started looking for a way to get out as water gushed in from the rear window filling the car quickly as it sank and hit the bottom of the river. I took a big breath of air as the car completely filled with water and I started to bang on the door to open it but it was stubborn and didn't budge at first. I slammed my paws against it losing precious air from my lungs until it finally swung open and I swam out the car. I immediately darted for the surface kicking frantically as the last oxygen in my lungs vanished....I couldn't stop myself I breathed in and water filled my nose, mouth, and lungs and I stopped kicking. My body had giving in just as I broke the surface of the water. I gasped and coughed heavily as I was washed downstream blacking out again.

It must've been a good hour or two later before I came too again on the bank of the river about a half mile down from the bridge as the river curved off it washed me ashore The sound of the water flowing and police sirens woke me up. I looked toward where the distinct sound came from. The viaduct I didn't know why there were so many cops there and I had other matters to figure out like who and where I was. I had no idea where I was or how I got there. I sat up and looked around, it was dark, cold, and it was starting to rain. I stood up my clothes and fur absolutely drenched and cold, I was freezing. I started to walk toward the town, but I decided without thinking to stay away from the bridge I'm not sure why but I figured it would've been best.

I reached in my water filled pockets to find anything that might help me. I pulled out my phone, which didn't work anymore, and my wallet which was soaked. I started to look through it. Everything soak, I pulled out a piece of paper at what I guessed must've been my I.D., which it was, but it was only a temporary paper and was completely soaked the only thing I could make out was Name: White L, and a half picture of me, the rest was to smudged and falling apart to read.

I kept rummaging until I pulled out a piece of paper that wasn't touched by the water and I read what was on the paper and it had an address written on it. 7483 Silverstreet Circle. I had no idea where this was or how to get there, but I waved down a taxi when I got back up to the city down by the projects.

"Are you ok buddy you look like you been through hell?" the cab driver a slightly chubby deer with a Boston accent said to me.

"Hey can you take me to this address?" I asked hesitantly and scared to the cab driver.

"How about a hospital? You look like you're hurt." As he pointed to my face showing the cut from the glass which was still bleeding.

"No no please no I can't go to a hospital I'll be found there." I replied back as I hesitantly got into the backseat completely soaking the seat with my wet clothes.

"Isn't that a good thing though?" he said.

"No please just can you take me to this address I think I know the person there." I insisted.

"Alright fine by me." And the deer started driving. It took about twenty minutes to get the the north side of town, I don't really remember the drive as I closed my eyes thinking about what has happened and where, better yet who I am. "We're here," the driver called back and I opened my eyes. The address was at a large but modest two story house, when we pulled up and all the lights like the rest of the street were turned off.

"Thanks, um I don't really know how to pay you though," as I got out the back seat and leaned in the passenger window and showed the deer my still damp wallet.

"Don't worry about it buddy I think you got more pressing matters to deal with at the moment I'll cover it have a good night," and he started to drive off.

I looked around some more as I walked up the nicely laid brick walkway that lead up to the front door, it was a rather large door I'd guess maybe 10 feet tall, but that didn't really matter I was soaked and still getting wet from the pouring rain. All I wanted was to figure out what was going on and who I was. I read the address 7483 Silverstreet Circle. "Well I'm here...question is, is anyone home?" I rang the doorbell twice and waited. About a minute later I bang on the door a few times. "Please be here whoever you are," I said as I waited. About thirty seconds later the door swings open, and my eyes widen.
