#5 of The Amazing Race 3

Previously on the Amazing Race, the teams got involved in a race within a race and we saw more of their bodies than the audience probably wanted to. After that, it was a choice between hot dogs and Ferris wheel rides, all topped off with a regatta to Puerto Rico. The YouTubers surprisingly took first place and while the mothers came in last, no one went home. We still have 16 teams left in the race. Which one will end up on top and who will sink to rock bottom? Find out right here on... the Amazing Race.

***

"It's time for our brief stay at San Juan to end," Toner says. "As yesterday's winners, the YouTubers will go first." He motions to the clue box, yet no one steps up. "Umm... where's Echo & Majira?"

***

On a yacht heading southeast, the red fox and black fennec fox are resting on lawn chairs, trying to soak up some sun. "How lucky are we?" Majira asks. "That we out of all people meet another YouTuber and get a free yacht ride?"

"I know," Echo squeals. "And getting to see the majestic ocean up close during a race, good luck."

"Speaking of which, should we be worried about that?" Majira takes off his sunglasses and looks to his partner.

"Nah. I grabbed the next tip and we're heading in the right direction."

***

"Oh well. I guess that makes the engaged couple are next ones up." Toner steps aside and let's Ren grab the next tip.

"'Grab another team and make your way to Mount... Liamuiga to find your next tip'," Ren reads. "Uhh... where is that?"

It's right in the middle of St. Kitts and Nevis, a small two-island nation known for its mountain ranges, stunning beaches and for being the former home to numerous sugar plantations. Teams must travel via Cessna (two teams per plane) to the base of Mt. Liamuiga and take a bus into the city, where they will find the next clue.

"Planes," Vito claims. "Go! Go! Go!" The cab drivers, beneficial friends and officers grab the tip and quickly run their way to some of the nearby planes.

"We could've been in first place, but noooo, someone just had to take it slow," Josee rants.

Ryan rolls his eyes. "Gee maybe someone should help out instead of standing by and complaining."

"Are you done yet?" Pepper asks. "It's our turn."

The first six teams are soon joined by the shop owners and the rest of the teams quickly grab the tip. "Alright, teammate of mine, what fun task are going to do next?" Zack asks/squeaks.

Chris presses the button. "Hopefully us coming in first." He quickly skims over the tip. "Cessnas! Let's go!"

"Woohoo! Fun!!!"

"Stop that!" The marines run off. When the geeks get their clue, they quickly hop into a plane with the telephone operators. Thanks to the YouTubers' absence, the mothers get the last plane all to themselves.

One by one, each Cessna takes off towards St. Kitts. Some teams use the time to strategize, while others get to know their fellow racers.

"You know, I heard that if you're in a plane crash, there's a one in four chance you'll survive." Donna make conversation with the engaged couple, but not one they would particularly like to hear.

Ren and Cal look at each other confused and back to the drivers.

"So how long have you two been a cop?" Toby asks.

"Several months," Nick replies. "Aren't you that guy who sang with that McAlister fox in Tennessee?"

"That I am. Sadly, Fletcher couldn't be on the race with me because his work will not allow a vacation long enough for it. But, everything's fine because I've got his cousin from Great Britain with me." He wraps an arm around Felix, who just blushes and waves to the officers, unsure of what to say.

"How long have you two been magicians?" Carrie asks.

"Oh about seven years ago during freshman year," Chloe explains. "We came in second place in a talent show and after that, I knew we were destined to try harder and become the best."

"Although it does seem a bit silly," Parker says. "We'll never be the greatest of all time but we're pretty good."

"So what can you do?" Carrie seems a little more eager.

"Well," the tiger stands up, "we can do things from simple coin tricks," Parker pulls a quarter out of the skunk's ear; a classic one, "to this..." Chloe takes Carla's purse and wraps it in a velvet purple handkerchief. After she gives it a quick tap of her wand and unwraps it, it's suddenly covered in red studs.

"What the?" Carla widens her eyes in amazement. "Is that real red jewels?"

"Mhm." Chloe hands her her purse back.

Maggie paces around a little bit while April sits trying to meditate. "You're kind of distracting me," the latter of the two says.

"I'm sorry!" Maggie shouts. "I'm just a little on edge because we came in last. If we don't step up our game, we're going home!" Yet at the back of her mind, she secretly wants to because she misses her husband and kids. She shakes her head at the thought of quitting and keeps pacing.

April, though, stays silent and calm and collective.

***

After a short ride, the first four planes land at the base of the mountain, where two separate school busses are ready to head into the Capitol of the country, Basseterre. Because this is a race, and thanks to editing, a 30 minute bus ride lasts only a couple seconds. By then, the other teams have landed and are on the second bus over. But those on the first one have the lead.

The vehicle stops in Independence Square, where the next tip box lies. "'Watch out, your partner is getting kidnapped'," Felix reads the next clue. "What does that mean?" He turns to his partner, only to find him not there. "Toby? Where are you?"

"Where did Carol go?" Karen asks.

"Yeah, and Judy," Nick adds.

Independence Square was once a place for a slave market. Old slaves were kept inside one of the buildings on the Square. That's why for this beyond crazy One-Way challenge, whoever grabbed the tip must find their partner inside the Catholic Church while those who didn't grab it have to find next tip inside. If they are reunited beforehand, they can work together.

Inside the church, those who didn't take the tip are starting to get worried. "What the hell happened?" Toby asks. "I was with my friend, then a bag was placed over my head, now I'm here."

"No one understands it, dude," Pepper says. "But it seems like everyone's been separated from their partner."

Before more questions are asked, a speaker somewhere inside crackles and comes to life with Toner's voice. "Greetings, victims! To find your next tip and move on the next challenge, you have to find it somewhere in the gathering room. Here's the catch: you can't leave until your partner finds you. Good luck!"

The eight inside groan. That's when Ren takes charge. "Look! We're not gonna get anywhere by whining about it. Don't you see we have an advantage over the other teams? Now, if the eight of us work together to find the tips, we're all bound to stay in the race."

"So, an 8-way alliance until we get out of here?" Ryan asks.

"Exactly!" When no one opposes the idea, Ren continues. "Ok. Carol, Donna, Toby, Pepper; you guys search left. Me, Lucius, Judy, and Ryan will search right. Go!" The new agreement splits up.

***

The other eight run inside the church, with them quickly splitting up into three separate groups. "So, what's your silent treatment?" Josee asks. "Are a man of few words?"

Cinnamon huffs, wondering why he went with her. He points at his throat and motions that he cannot speak.

"Ahh, you can't talk, can you?" He shakes his head. "That would suck. If I wasn't able to talk, how would I ever be able to do anything with Ryan?"

"If you weren't able to talk, I'd be in paradise," Cinnamon says in ASL.

"I understood... none of that, but I'm going to assume it was something good."

Upstairs searching is a fox, cat, and bear. "She was trying to play mind games with you?" Karen asks.

Cal nods. "I know, right? Like she could ever trick me and Ren into fearing something. Although it does make you wonder why she would do it in the first place."

"I hope she doesn't turn into the new Tammy."

Max perks up his ears. "Guys! I think I hear them this way!" He leads them down a hallway.

Back downstairs, Nick just glares at Vito who is several paces ahead. "Why do you keep doing that?" Felix whispers, feeling that he was hiding something.

Nick leans up and says to him, "I don't trust that fool with any bone in my body. His partner, Donna, is slightly psycho. If you haven't seen that last two seasons, you can't let the bad guys take a win or else they'll steal the whole race." The boys stop when they hear a muffling noise. "I think I just heard the others!"

They run into one of the doors and find themselves in a large gathering room, where the group of eight sit waiting for their partners. Judy, Donna, and Toby then reunite with them.

"I found the next tip," Toby says, holding it up. "It was underneath the pews."

"Nice job." Felix wags his tail and gets distracted for a second before refocusing. "Oh... It looks like another One-Way. 'St. Kitts... attire'?"

For this One-Way, teams must make their way to Stainfourth Street, where an array of supplies wait. They must work together to build a costume fit for Masquerade. Performers typically wear bright colored shirts with bangles, mirrors, ribbons; topped off with masks and headsets with peacock feathers. After that, it's a race south all the way to the shore where the next checkpoint lies. Last team to arrive... could be toast.

"'Note: the costume must fit one of the members of your team. Whoever isn't in it must carry them'," Vito reads.

The three teams head out of the church and they are soon joined by the daters and strippers.

A taxi arrives at the church and the YouTubers come out. "I cannot believe how fun that was!" Echo squeals. She walks over to the top box and gets the challenge. By the time she finishes reading, Majira is gone. "Oh no."

The second bus arrives a few minutes later and the rest of the teams hurry to catch up. "Alright, Zack, I need you to focus if we're going to come out of last place," Chris barks as he grabs the next clue. "Understand?" No response. "Where'd Zack go?"

"Yeah, and Parker?" Chloe adds.

"Oh no!" Kaleb panics. "I can't find my son!"

After reading the tip over a second time, Chloe, Kaleb, Carla, April, Arnold, and Sindy head into the church. When their partners arrive in the gathering area, those from the first group stay back to let them scounge the room for the next clue.

April runs up the stairs, mind racing. "Ok, if I was Toner and I was hiding people, where would they be?" she asks herself. She gets and idea and runs for it.

"Carrie!" Carla calls out. "Carrie! Where are you?!" She somehow found Echo and decided to follow her. The fennec fox stops Carla in her tracks when her nose twitches and picks up a scent. "What? What is it?"

"Smells like..." She inhales the strange yet familiar ace this. "... strawberry cologne! I think I know where they are!"

Arnold and Sindy chose to look together. As they walk around, the human looks around a little bit. "Seems like this building can be dated all the way back to the 18th century," he says.

"Wow, that's impressive," Sindy says. "How do you know this so easily?"

"It's obvious because of the way the inside looks. You'd be surprised about how much you can find out about something or someone by looking on the inside."

"Huh. You mean, like, X-Rays?"

Arnold cracks up. "Yeah, I guess that's one way to do it." They see a door they haven't tried yet and when they do, they find the others.

"Sindy!" Sally runs up to her and hugs her.

"Arnold, I found the next challenge." Bert holds up the tip and the two teams head off together.

"Hey, Bert, I think I might've just found us an alliance," Arnold whispers.

"Really? With who?"

"Sindy & Sally. I don't know why, but it seems that she's slightly calmer around me."

Max finds Lucius next and the wolf carries him to the next street. "I'm never letting you leave my sight ever again," Lucius says.

Cal reunites with Ren and they race to catch up. When Echo comes in, the cologne smell grows stronger. "That was the scariest experience of my life!" Majira blurts.

"Did you at least find the next challenge?" He nods.

"Zack! Where are you?" Chris rests for a second, panting after running everywhere. "Oh man! I can't bear to lose my best friend! He's always been there for me. Yes, he's goofy and never takes anything serious, but he always gets me and the over guys in a good mood all the time and... and..." He gasps before he says what he thinks he's going to says. "No. No! I can't go back down that road. Not again!"

He runs down a few halls until he finds the gathering area. Putting aside what he was going to say and goes up to his partner. "Find the clue yet?" he asks.

"Yep." Zack smiles and holds up the tip. Before he leaves, he gets a quick pic of the place. Although Chris groans, he secretly wishes he could tell him...

***

While those in the church are still finding each other, those at the next challenge are already making progress. For the cab drivers, Donna agreed to be the one wearing the costume while Vito made it.

"Stop squirming!" Toby chuckles.

"I can't!" Felix squeaks. "It tickles when you do that!"

"What? This?" The tiger pokes his friend in the side when he adds more ribbon. That, in turn, makes the brown fox laugh. "Gee, if I had known you were ticklish, I would've done this a while ago."

"You wouldn't dare!" Toby tickles him again to prove he would.

"Remind me why I am the one wearing this?" Judy asks. "I'd look twice my actual size with this thing."

"You want to be the one carrying me?" Nick points out. The bunny just sighs and let's the fox work on her.

Ryan makes the costume for Josee, who's enjoying his touch as he does so.

"So, how are you gals doing?" Arnold asks the telephone operators. Bert moves around him as he makes the Masquerade outfit.

Sally is in Bert's position for her team, seeing as how she's the more creative one. "We're doing great. In fact, for once, we might not come in fourteenth."

"Hopefully we're in first sometime soon," Sindy responds. She looks over at the posing human and smiles. The last time a human and furry fell in love on the show, one of them ended up in the final episode. Maybe the same thing will happen except they will be the Final Two. Or not, but can't a girl dream?

"Voila!" Vito exclaims. Donna's outfit is completed. She hops into his arms and he starts running south.

"You almost done yet?" Josee asks.

"Almost..." Ryan adds a few more feathers to her headset. "Done!" The wolf picks her up and they chase after the drivers.

"There's the checkpoint!" Josee points after a minute. The drivers hear that and Vito ups his performance to get to the rug first.

***

April makes it to the gathering area and quickly grabs Maggie. "Hurry! We can't come in last again!" the blue car rushes.

Carla & Carrie soon get to the next street over. "I'll make the costume," Carla says. "I mean, I'm a seriously creative person. Right?"

"Sure." However, Carrie's voice was full of sarcasm.

After running everywhere, Kaleb finds Mac, but he's panting and tired. "I'm so happy I found you kiddo!"

"Relax, dad," Mac strains to say when his father hugs him tight. "Parker and Carol have been keeping me company."

***

Two foxes stand on the gold carpet, blowing kisses into the camera. "Vito, Donna, first place," Toner announces. "I'm surprised you two are keeping it professional despite teetering on the edge of insanity before." The cab drivers walk off (upon where Vito whoops and does a somersault) as another team arrives.

"How'd we do?" Josee asks.

"Second place. Not bad." The daters kiss each other once before walking away as well.

***

With the race for first over, the race to not finish in last begins. Father and son soon arrive at the next challenge and are followed by the magicians and shop owners.

"Finished!" Echo exclaims. "I knew my A in art class would help."

Majira, whose costume is mostly strawberry red, says, "I knew I was a berry before, but this pretty much took it to a next level." Echo quickly picks him up and carries him.

"Finished," Cal says.

"I'm done!" Nick says.

"Oh my goodness, look how cute you are!" Lucius kisses Max on the cheek.

Zack looks down at Chris, who's working on the ribbons at his torso. "You almost done, pal?" he asks.

"No," Chris snarls. "Now, hold still!"

***

"YouTubers, third place." They cheer when Toner says that, but he interrupts. "However, you guys were supposed to arrive in St. Kitts via Cessna and you two traveled via yacht. That's a one hour penalty."

"Whatever." Majira puts that thought aside. "Even if we lose, it won't be a total loss."

A pair of big brown feet paws land on the carpet next. "Ren & Cal, third place."

Nick & Judy- 4th place

Cinnamon & Pepper- 5th place

Max & Lucius- 6th place

Felix & Toby- 7th place

Carla & Carrie- 8th place

"We're done!" Parker exclaims. He picks up Chloe, putting her over his shoulder and runs off.

"Dad, you almost finished?" Mac asks.

Kaleb sews on one more ribbon and proudly proclaims, "There. Now let's go check in."

"Finished," Bert says.

"Same here." Sally picks up Sindy and they head off together.

The teams start to finish and while they start racing to avoid last place, Toner paces by the rug with a blueberry smoothie in paw. The YouTubers still having a little time left in their penalty. The marine furs and magicians come into sight and they hop on the rug. "Ninth and tenth respectively," Toner announces. Zack, Chloe, and Parker whoops.

Majira, at this point, is pacing around and nibbling on the tips of his fingers.

"I can see the carpet!" Maggie squeals. April pants but continues, knowing she can't come in last this time. However, the last two teams are hot on their trail and she struggles to speed up.

When she stops on the carpet, the mothers look to Toner with hopeful looks on their faces. "Relax, April & Maggie, you're in thirteenth." They scream and shout.

As the new alliance approaches , the telephone operators unknowingly go a little faster and land on the rug as soon as the penalty is up. "Operators, fourteenth. YouTubers, fifteenth."

"Wait... but that means..." Sindy looks to the geeks who manage to arrive, but they all know they're too late.

Toner clears his throat. "Geeks. Looks like you're the last team to arrive. Which means, you're cut from the competition."

"Ah, dang it." Arnold hops from Bert's arms. "I guess we shouldn't have spent so much time worrying about how the costume was going to look." He then turns to Sindy & Sally. "Good luck guys."

***

Walking down one of the roads, Bert throws an arm around his friend's shoulder. "Well, I had a blast. Maybe being too smart is a weakness in this game."

"True. Plus I have a real shot with a girl when we get home," Arnold says enthusiastically. "Oh well. Who needs races anyhow when you've got a smart mind and a best friend?"

"You can say that again. Now, how about we head home and see if we can fix your father's computer."

"I'm already on it." The two share a laugh.
