Dolce Far Niente

Story by Squirrel on SoFurry

It was another late night on Luminous.

And a change of pace (from late).

"You're so sweet ... like, you're like cotton candy, you know?" she breathed. Voice light, bright. Words tangling in his fur (from her muzzle's close proximity). "Like, when cotton candy hits your tongue, how it melts ... just melts. You're like that. When I kiss you," she told him, lips kissing the fur on his neck. "You just ... melt on my tongue. Like sugar. That's how sweet you are."

Field flushed beneath his fur.

"You're shy, too ... did I mention how cute it is," she told him, "that you're shy?" The bat giggled. "Mm?"

"You've mentioned it," he breathed, "before."

"Yeah?"

"Mm-hmm." Nose-nuzzling in the dark. Nuzzling on her cheek. Soft, pink fur ... of her cheek. And his twitching, sniffing nose. His nose that always moved. That was always working. Even when the rest of him was in repose (which was rare).

Adelaide stretched a winged arm ... and a paw slid down his side, to his hip, to his thigh ... and stopped. Sliding back up. A wing wrapping round his back.

The mouse breathed slowly in. Arching weakly.

"Your fur is soft," she whispered.

"Yours is softer. It must," he replied, "be softer. How come," he asked, "you're so soft?"

"I don't know ... " She kissed his cheek.

The room was dim. Nearly dark. But they could make out the colors of each other. The outlines of each other. And the eyes of each other.

"Are you sure," the mouse asked (of the baby), "she's asleep?"

"I fed her ... soothed her, and ... last time I checked," Adelaide affirmed.

"She'll wake up again."

"If she does ... she does," was the bat's response, mouthing on his neck. Panting out ... breathing in.

A swallow on his part ... and his paws were on her bare back. They had tried, now, three times ... but hadn't gotten farther than foreplay. The baby had started crying every time (from the other room).

And it was now after midnight.

"Sometimes ... I think she likes you," Field admitted, "better than me." His eyes were closed. His ears at a soft swivel-swivel.

"That's not true."

"I can feel it. I have telepathic abilities, too ... remember?" They weren't as strong as the bat's, and ... even Akira, having Adelaide's genes, had stronger telepathic abilities than Field, her father, did (but the baby hadn't the know-how ... on how to use them yet). But the mouse had abilities, all the same ...

"Field, you're imagining it."

"I don't know ... "

"Field ... " She smiled patiently. "She's, what, two months old? She doesn't know how to dislike anything ... and, if she does ... she doesn't dislike you. That's crazy."

"I'm just worried. I don't wanna be a bad parent ... I feel," he whispered, "I was a bad son. A bad child ... to my family. I had a falling out with them."

"I know ... " Her paw ran soothingly up and down his side.

"I don't want her to ... I don't want that to happen here. I don't want to be the one that ... "

"Hey ... hey," she shushed. "Stop it, okay? You're worrying."

"I'm a mouse."

A toothy grin. "Yeah ... you are." And a kiss to his shoulder. "But, honestly, darling, it's ... she loves you. And you love her. We're a family, okay? We're not gonna fall apart." Another kiss to his shoulder. And a kiss to his neck. Soft, velvety kisses. Little, burning kisses. And her repeated insistence that, "You're so sweet ... "

Field flushed. Warmed ... by her strength. Her kindness. Her desire to shield him. To build him up. Her love.

She closed her eyes as his paws clutched at her pink fur. Clutching. Holding. Weakly. In want. Mice were so needy. They were dependent.

Bats were bold. Independent. They could fly.

Oh, what a fit they were!

Oh, how delicate and dozy-eyed ... their breathing!

Field nosed her shoulder. Her neck. Their bodies bare and nestled together. Half-tangled in the cool, navy-blue sheets. Paws and foot-paws moving, rubbing. Limbs tangling and untangling ...

... as their muzzles met.

Field's head went to a tilt.

She sucked on his lower lip, and his mouth opened ... to exhale ... and she felt the heat of his breath. From so close. And her tongue gave a lick and a lap.

And he sighed. And hugged her tight. He was not, was not, was NEVER ... going to let her go. Not to any grey mood. Not to any tragedy. Not to any de-constructing day. Through it all ... he would not let go.

And neither would she. Her wings round his back, paws gripping his rump-cheeks, and a paw ... stroking along the lower fourth of his long, silky tail. She was the GOOD kind of mousetrap.

This was mutual need. Emotional, mental ...

... physical need.

Their minds became quietly tuned to each other. Each other's wants. Where this was headed. Where it needed to go.

They were in bed, but were not GOING to bed. Not now. Not now ... oh ...

" ... now," she breathed. "Let's ... " She lost her breath. A paw between her legs. His paw. His fingers. Two fingers. He had sneakily traced the lines of her furry folds, and sneakily, so quickly ... slipped into her. "Oh ... " Her warm, wet muscle ...

Field huffed. And pumped his fingers in and out of her. In the slowest possible way.

She craned her neck, showing her fangs (on purpose ... for Field knew what the fangs could do, and what they represented).

The mouse's heart quickened. Her paw now gripped him.

"It's only ... fair," she breathed, "play."

A shy huff ...

... from Chester. With Juneau. In their quarters (a deck above, on D-deck).

"Do that ... again," she asked, licking his neck. "Oh, do it again ... "

"W-what?" the black-and-white mouse asked.

"That ... chuffy ... huff. Puff. Whatever ... that exhale you do," she asked, paws roving all over his back. "Mm ... mm ... "

He blinked ... weakly blinked.

A giggle on her part. A smile. "Performance anxiety? Putting too much pressure on you?"

"I don't even know," he admitted, "what sound you're talking ... about."

"Oh, I ... " The squirrel gripped her mate's mouse-hood. Ran a thumb over the head.

Chester chuffed.

"That's it ... that's the sound." She slipped her paw away ... and to his belly. Rubbing his belly.

"Mm," went the mouse. "Okay ... "

"That's the cutest sound. I should do a recording of that sound."

"You're not gonna do that."

"No?" she teased. "No?"

"No," he squeaked.

A giggle. And an exhale. Chester on his back, and she ... crawling over the top of him. Looking down upon him. "I'm so glad you're okay," she whispered. "I was so afraid ... when you got hurt."

He gave a shy smile and squeezed her paw.

"You're just ... to touch you, to know you're here," she said, her paws on his chest. Fingers rubbing at his nipples.

Chester breathed. Not knowing what to tell her ... not knowing how to verbally express his gratitude. How she humbled him.

Juneau had never loved anyone like this. Had never had a mate-ship ... that had lasted this long (for a whole year). She had never come so close to losing anyone ... as she had. How severe had his injuries been? Did she even want to know?

Chester claimed not to remember the attack. Claimed not to remember how his body had come to be battered and bloodied. But, deep down, he ... remembered ... he hadn't been caught in crossfire. He had been purposely targeted. They had seen him (the foxes had), and they had targeted him. It hadn't been an accident ... but his mind, his mousey mind ... it built a wall in front of that memory. Buried it. Blocked it. If asked, Chester would claim he had no memory of the attack ... only the memory of waking up in sickbay. With Juneau hovering over him (as she did now).

The mouse's body tensed ... as his mind entertained such things.

"You okay?" Juneau whispered. Worriedly.

"Yeah ... "

She put a paw on his chest. Over his heart. "Honey ... what's wrong?"

"Nothing," he insisted.

She licked her lips, now at a straddle ... of his hips. His waist. "You need more rest?" This would be their first yiff since his injury.

"No, I can ... I can do this. I can do it," he insisted.

"Okay ... " She caressed him. "If you have any pains, just ... tell me, okay? Alright?"

The mouse nodded quietly. Pushing the quiet terror ... to the deepest recesses of his mind. He was prey. Was a mouse. The only way he knew of to ... defeat pain ... was to outrun it. To scurry away. And, right now, he was going to scurry into her arms. Into her passion. In the days since he'd been discharged from sickbay, he hadn't felt safe anymore. He'd constantly been looking over his shoulder. Constantly jerking in surprise ... at phantom sounds. He didn't feel safe.

Only with her. Only with her ... she wouldn't hurt him. She wouldn't ...

... stop purring.

"Oh ... oh, d-don't stop ... " Shiver-squeak!

Assumpta purred. Purred. The squirrel's cock ... was in her muzzle. And she purred, keeping her bristly tongue ... snug to its underside. The vibrations of her purrs! Oh, they could only be endured!

Azure arched helplessly.

The predator in her, it flared. She was in total control. TOTAL control.

The squirrel chittered ...

... as she pulled off. As he panted. As she cradled him to her breasts. The snow leopard was bigger than the squirrel. Stronger. And though she didn't show affection to others (not in obviously discernible ways), she did show it to her mate.

He hugged. Huffing from the stimulation (and his recovery from it). Saying, "You're ... you're going planet-side tomorrow ... right?"

"Yes."

"Take me with you."

"It is cold down there," she said.

"I know that ... silly," Azure whispered. "I know that ... "

"I will only be down there for a day," she said, nipping at his neck. As the side of his neck. "It will be mostly meetings. Negotiations. Talks."

"I don't care. I wanna go with you."

The snow leopard hesitated. It wasn't that ... she didn't want Azure to come along. That ... well ... she happened to know that Oliver, the snow rabbit with whom she'd bred (nearly a year ago) ... he was going to be at the meeting. He had been promoted since they'd last met, and was in charge of some engineering functions ... or some such. Assumpta didn't know. Only that ... his name had been on the computer pad. On the list of attendees. It was sort of like a conference. Mostly snow rabbits. And some Luminous crew-furs.

"What's wrong?" Azure asked. Always ... with a delicate ego. Delicate confidence. Most prey were like that, Assumpta had observed: emotionally fragile. Her mate was no exception. And it did not bother her. For she was a predator, and her ROLE ... was to provide him with strength. While he, in turn, provided her with delicate emotion. With loyalty. To match her devotion.

Predator/prey romances rarely worked.

But there's had ... gone along well. It wasn't the most emotional of relationships, maybe, and ... perhaps, on some level, it was more a physical thing ... than anything else. But it worked. They shared the same bed. They shared their thoughts. They liked each other. Loved ... each other.

"Assumpta," he breathed.

"Yes?" she asked. Still hugging him.

The squirrel's eyes were closed. "Let me go with you. You're always leaving the ship ... and you never let me come. Please," he asked.

The snow leopard let out a breath. "Alright," she said. "Come with me."

A smile.

"But visits to snow rabbits ... do not equate to vacations."

"I've dealt with snow rabbits before," he replied. "We've been in orbit for ... however many weeks."

She nodded. Purring again. Nuzzling his neck. So, her mate would accompany her to the conference tomorrow. So, Oliver would be there. So, that would be ...

" ... awkward?" A shake of the head. "I mean, I'm not, like ... I'm not one for awkward," Soldotna told him.

Pyro blinked. "No?"

"No," she whispered. Nose to his. "No, it's ... I mean, I'm not loud or outspoken, and I'm not ... " She trailed. "I'm not the sort to, uh ... do this on a first date," she said. Mouthing his cheek. "I'm ... but I, uh, it's ... I don't feel awkward about it. Do you?"

Pyro's eyes were half-open. Were red. Were sensing the heat ... coming off her body. She was so warm. So, so warm. He longed to wrap in that warmth.

"Pyro?" She whispered onto his lips. His name. Whispered it onto his lips. They were standing, clothing round their ankles ... or in a pile on the floor. "You don't feel awkward about this, do you? We can stop ... "

The wolf shook his head. Slowly. Uncertain, but ... in a way, totally certain. Saying, "No, I don't wanna stop." He breathed deeply through the nose. His strong nose. Detecting her particular scent (and his own). Detecting arousal. Arousal that was ... more than instinctual. Rather, it was ... necessary. It was need. And wasn't there something spiritual in neediness? In satisfying each other's needs? Didn't it take a special connection ... to properly do that?

Did they have a connection?

"I think," he said aloud, answering his own internal question ... " ... that I like you very much."

"Why?" she flushed, arms around his lower back. Swaying with him. In a slow, slow circle. On the carpet near the couch. In her quarters (for his own quarters were rather bare and sterile ... he had guest quarters, and no possessions to decorate it with).

"You're just ... so stable."

A giggle. "Stable?"

"For a rodent."

"Huh ... well ... "

"I'm teasing," he said, nipping at her neck. And moving to bite at her shoulder. With his teeth. But not enough to hurt her. Just enough to provide a little love-bite ... a little pressure. "No, you're very ... honest and open and ... genuine."

"Lots of furs are."

A shake of the head. "No ... no, they're not. Anyway, you're very friendly."

"Pyro ... "

"No, I'm new here. I'm ... different. I'm an outsider. But you've talked with me, and ... flirted," he said, ears turning hot, "with me. You aren't afraid of me."

"No one's afraid of you." A pause. A smile. "Or do you want them to be?"

"They're not afraid of me, but ... they avoid me."

"Pyro," she said again.

"I like you," he said again. And a pause. "What am I ... what are we getting at again?" Another nip. To her other shoulder.

The chipmunk craned her neck. Chittering softly. "Um, we're ... we've just had our first date," she said ... their date having been, basically, a meal in the mess hall. A walk in a forest in the simulation room. And then a walk around the ship, and some star-gazing in the observation lounge (on B-deck). And, then, they'd ... wound up back her.

At her quarters.

In her quarters.

In the fur.

Looking at each other. At each other's eyes.

"We've just had our first date," Soldotna repeated, swallowing. Breathing lightly. "And, uh ... oh, wow ... wh-what ... " A giggle.

Pyro was nibbling on her neck again. Nibble-nibble ...

"Are you ... a mouse, or a ... a wolf? Nibbling ... like that ... "

"Oh, I can bite," he promised. A gleam in his red eyes. A glow.

"Not too hard, I hope," she said, as he gnaw-gnawed on her paws. Softly, softly ... with his teeth, but ... not hard. Nibbling again.

"You're making it very hard for me to concentrate," she accused, her knees beginning to buckle. Her chipmunk tail wagging a bit.

As his wolf tail wagged. Wag-wagged ... brushing about in the air. And his innocent counter was, "Am I?"

"Y-yes ... " Her paws clutched at his sides. "I was, uh ... trying to ... I mean, wonder about our potential."

"Potential ... "

"To be mates," she whispered. Very lightly. "I mean ... that's our aim, right? That's what we're looking for, right? We don't just want a quick ... yiff. I mean, we want a lot more ... right?" she breathed.

The wolf nodded quietly.

"So, I mean ... why not?"

"Do you want me to answer that?" he asked seriously. Red eyes harboring ... secrets. From his universe. From his past. "You don't really know me."

"Then it's ... an adventure," she whispered. Gripping his tail-base. Tugging. Stroking the length of his tail, and slowly turning him around ... " ... but we'll never find out, you know, if it can work ... unless we try. Unless we give it a go."

"So, you're asking me," he reiterated, "to be your mate?"

"Too aggressive?" she asked, smiling. "Would YOU rather ask?"

"I am the male."

"Ah, but you're prey, aren't you? Like me."

A chuckle. "But I'm not a rodent."

"You're not making sense," she breathed, kissing his shoulder, and turning him back around (so that they were facing). And kissing his lips. "I'm not making sense, either, so ... I guess ... just yes or no, Pyro ... let me know."

The little growl from his throat, and the way he kissed her then ... wet, passionate, tilted ... falling with her, stumbling with her ... to the couch. The kiss was his answer. The kiss ...

... traveled down his chest. To his belly. Kiss, kiss ... and stopping. Panting. "Wren," she panted.

"Y-yeah ... ?"

"I don't know," Rella confessed. "I just wanted to say your name. I like ... your name. I like saying it. I like how it sounds," she said, "when I breathe it." She resumed her kissing of him. All around his belly, and ... to his squirrel-hood. Which she kissed. Which she sucked ... a tiny bit. Stopping. Sitting up. Moving at a shimmy ... over him, laying down atop of him.

His paws hugged her from below. Lovingly.

"I'm so glad you're taking it easier," she told him. Eyes just inches from his own. The two squirrels, the captain and the second officer ... in his ready room. Doors locked. Lights off. Dim lighting coming from the glow of the planet below. And the lights of the station to which Luminous was docked. Starry lights! Bathing them ... in milky shadow ...

"Well, we're not going anywhere," he said.

"Do you want to?" was her question. "Do you want us to leave this system? Where would we go? When we came here, back to the snow rabbits ... we were depleted of fuel and supplies. We have no allies ... only them. This is a safe habor."

"Safe? After that attack earlier this week, and ... the constant tension. Safe?"

"As safe as we're liable to be ... alone, out in the vastness of space, this ship is an easy target. I know the predators said they would leave us alone as long as we didn't approach Home-world, but you KNOW ... that, if a predatory ship happens to cross paths with us, they'll destroy us for sport. And use our 'betrayal' as an excuse to do so. But they won't touch us as long as we're here."

"But we can't make a home on an ice world. It's not ... we're not built for it. Eventually, we're gonna have to settle down somewhere."

"And what about Luminous?"

"We won't abandon her. Ever. But ... I don't know," was his breath. "I don't know ... I just ... I'm TRYING to relax. Trying to, but I'm ... so much weight on my shoulders. Everyone looks up to me. Including you," he whispered. "And ... I care so much," he told her, "what you think about me. And I ... I'm sorry if I've been letting you down."

She caressed his cheek. "No ... you've not been letting me down. You've just been worrying me. I'm just glad you've taken the past few days easier." She stroked between his legs. At his firm squirrel-hood. "You still gonna take the next week off? We can camp out in the simulation room," she said. "You're the captain. You can reserve it ... "

A giggle. "Mm ... yeah, I'm gonna ... take some time off."

"Just relax," she said, rubbing his furry chest. "Just ... "

" ... k-keep going ... oh ... oh ... "

Field needn't be told twice ... thought he appreciated the encouragement (always). Appreciated her prodding ... relished it, even, as it drove him forward ...

"Mm ... "

A soft, squelching sound ... a sucking sound ... came from the spot of their physical union. From his mouse-hood sliding in and out, softly, softly ... through the wet warmth of her femininity. The velvet wetness of her pink, pink muscle ... oh, all of her pink, and such a raw pink ... where his maleness (also pink) now resided.

And her fur ...

... oh, pink was pleasure ...

... was the scent in the air ...

... was the bite!

"Mmf," Field grunted, feeling the teeth ... slide in. Into his neck. But the numbing agent in her saliva dulled any pain. Instead, shocking his nerves with great pleasure. Her mating milk leaking into his blood. Drip, drip ... drip ...

Their minds were merging.

Their minds were one.

Total physical, mental union ... total bliss ... as they, eyes glazed over, eyes watering shut ... as they made love. As they ...

... rocked together, sweating ...

... moaning.

"Uh ... uh," went the squirrel. Went Juneau.

"Ooh," wailed Chester.

Tails ...

... snaked. Tangled. The squirrel's tail, bushy and arching, and her tail ... snaking, slithering. Batting at each other.

The snow leopard purred, purred. Purred! The feline's pussy ... quivering, quivering ...

... nearing release. The chipmunk, she chittered ... as she neared her release, huffing for air, asking, "Oh, do y-you ... you've got a ... a knot," the chipmunk panted.

"I'm a ... a wolf," Pyro replied. "I ... I'm a wolf."

"I'd, uh ... n-noticed ... "

"Mm ... mm ... s-should I?" he asked, slowly pumping in and out, in and ... out. Having taken the dominant position. His words asking ... if he should tie with her. Knot with her.

"We're ... we're mates, right?" she asked. Clutching his rump ...

"Y-yeah ... "

She nodded. "Well ... then go ahead."

The wolf grinned and growled, eyes burning brighter. More brightly than she'd ever seen them glow ...

"Oh ... "

" ... Wren," Rella huffed. "Oh ... oh ... " She, at a straddle, bobbed, bobbed ... bounced on him. On the length of him. Bounce, bounce ... controlling the motion. The depth. Controlling this. And getting closer, closer ... and ... and ... !

There!

Pussy quivering, a little stream of fluid ... spurting out, running in rivulets down his cock.

Wren whimpered. She was wet, warm ... and in her spasms. And it was heaven to him. Heaven ... as he was milked by her. Oh, this was ...

... heaven!

Twitch, twitch ... spurt! Strings of steamy semen ... seed! Sowing ... oh, sowing ...

Spasm ...

"Oh ... oh ... "

"Mm ... "

Mouse and bat in orgasm.

Mouse pulling out of bat ... and bat pulling (her teeth) out of the mouse.

Huffing.

Eyes meeting.

The mouse, after this ... always shy! After this.

And she ... always hugging him, whispering into his ear. Little sweet nothings into his ear.

Little sweet nothings. Little "I love you's" ...

Doing nothing but ...

... living, loving, being. And, now, sleeping ...

Luminous now dozing. And the furs aboard ... dozing, too. In each other's arms. Knowing that such rest as this ... was far too rare.

And, from experience ... this lull wouldn't last for long ...
