trouble is coming in more forms, can Tirol take it?

CHAPTER 6

Waking up the next morning to the blaring alarms coming from the computer console, Tirol rolled over groaning once more as he wanted to block out the noise however something compelled him finally wake up. Looking around, he noticed a glow coming off the desk computer causing him to get to his feet moving over to the console barely noticing that again he was in a different room but the smae that he had come into the night before.

Hitting a different set of keys for access codes, he took a seat just as the computer came to life indicating that a message was incoming although it seemed to be a comm instead of a message. Pressing the receiving key just as he sat down behind the desk as Admiral Devon's face appeared in front of him.

"Admiral, what do I owe the please of this phone call this morning?" he asked sitting back in the chair.

"Sorry to get you up from bed, Commander however I wanted to confirm with you about your request for new crew and equipment. I can agree with your recommendation that these aren't the people to be department heads however you must also understand that many of the crew that you are wanting to replace are from high level families including from the council." She answered with a concern look on her face.

"I understand completely, however they must understand this...I am not going to take a newly commission ship into a zone that is more dangerous than our current areas. If the HQ and council would like to replace me they can but I know dang well the cadets that I went to school with won't even consider taking command of a ship that is probably going to the area where the ships that were once part of the original fleet." Tirol said looking confident in his response which seemed to surprise the admiral.

She offered a laugh. "Cheppard figured that would be the response and the council seems to agree with your answer about others not wanting the job. Commander...this is why you are here to get the job done right. Although many people on the high council have children that are on board that vessel in correct positions that their skills reflect on however some of the snobby ones are on their by demands and all." her expression turned to that of seriousness. "Beware, Commander. If you continue on with this push to replace these officers, you will make enemies in many parts of the council that may effect your future."

"Right now, Admiral...why should I give a damn about my future if there is no one that can possibly get the job done? So if they want to push their luck with demanding to have their spoiled brats on board a ship, put them with defense ships not a line ship where two worlds are hanging in the balance than just one." Tirol answered firmly.

This caused her to smirk although many would think of it as being insurbodinate in actions, however this was one reason why she recommended Tirol for the job. "Very well spoken, Commander. However I would advice unless you really consider staying in that position not to talk that way in front of the council...I can't protect you from everything.

"Anyways, I received the request and have put them through and I am guessing that you all ready have your replacements picked out, correct?" she asked which he nodded. "Good I will see that those orders are put out. How else is your ship coming along from what you can see?"

"Amazingly well, the A'Renians know how to build a ship thats for sure. I can't wait to see what she can do again a enemy that we have faced more than once." Tirol said standing up going over to the replicator getting something to eat and drink before continuing. "So from what you have told me, Admiral...will I be expecting a call similar to this one from Cheppard, by chance or can I get some sleep for once?"

"He seemed angry enough that he threatened about having you courtmarshalled and all, however I figured that you wouldn't even be phased enough. So you might not have to worry but don't take my word on that." she answered laughing. "Anyways back down to business. After looking around, do you believe the ship will be ready for her launch or do we need to push it back?"

"Oh by just looking around at her, I can tell she will be ready to go. Just need those replacements and anything that needs to be shipped to us or replaced and we should be good to go. Do you have any idea of what our first mission will be?"

"Your guess is as good as anyones, Commander. We are going to send you to the border by the sounds coming from the council chambers right now, but right now it sounds like there is going to be something else in the works." she answered. "However..."

"You can't tell me without getting yourself into deep stuff along the way." He finished for her which she only nodded. "Admiral, if you guys want this ship to accomplish the impossible then you have to be reasonable with your command decisions, you can't just give me the staff that their parents demand the positions for them. I need staff that know how to do their job and are well known for it...if they don't like it, tell them to put them on a new ship coming down the line and then send them out into the danger zone and see who lasts the longest."

"You have guts thats for sure, Commander...just don't push your luck on things that you need. Be reasonable, if you feel that the person is still of good use, then keep him or her there but place them in a different position in that department. You are the CO of that ship so you need to lay down the rules there and if they don't like it, transfer them elsewhere.

"You have those rights now, don't let the spoiled get their ways. Be the rebel that you were born as." she instructed him which caused him to stay silent however after a while he offered a nod in agreement. "You have two weeks, Commander. Get the ship ready...don't disappoint me."

Without another word or gesture, the admirals appearance disappeared leaving Tirol sitting there rubbing his chin in wonder before turning back to the clock seeing that he still had about four hours before he had to get up. Setting a proper alarm to wake up, he slipped back under the sheets falling asleep within seconds.
