Hello everyone. This is part 13 Of Marius and Jillian's story. In this one we see more of Millicent and more of the members of the Cane household meet her too. This should be an interesting chapter and set things in motion for future chapters too. I hope you all enjoy it and, as always, thank you for reading my stories.

Everything Changed: A Night That Changed Everything, Part 13 By Penelope Ravenheart

It was late morning when Marius and Julius came out of the office of the province's tax and deed registrar. As the two wolves stepped out onto the sidewalk the sun shone brightly and the air was pleasantly warm. It seemed to be a perfect day and many of the local residents were out making the most of it.

As they walked towards their horses, they were debating whether to go home for lunch or eat at the café in town. Just as they were both about to climb onto their horses, Julius spotted Millicent walking up the sidewalk towards them. She seemed to be enjoying the day and doing some window shopping.

"It seems we have good timing today," Julius said to his father before turning to greet the wolfess. "Hello, Lady Millicent. How are you on this fine day?"

"Hello, Julius. I'm fine. And how are you?" she replied as she walked over to him.

"I'm quite well, thank you," he said. "I would like you to meet my father. Millicent Young, this is my father, Marius Cane. Father, this is the lovely wolfess that I was telling you about."

"Good day to you, Miss Young. It's nice to meet you," Marius said, smiling pleasantly at her.

"And it's very nice to meet you too, Mr. Cane. And you may call me Millicent," she replied, smiling at him sweetly.

"Thank you, and you may call me Marius," he said.

"And what brings you two fine, handsome wolves to town today?" she asked, flashing a coy smile at Julius.

"We had some business at the registrar's office this morning and were just talking about having lunch. And yourself?" Julius said.

"Just killing some time with a little window shopping while I wait for the livery stable to finish with my cart," she replied.

"Oh, I'm glad to hear that you are getting it fixed," Julius said.

"The owner of the livery stable said that whoever tightened that wheel up for me did a very good job," she said, smiling conspiratorially .

Blushing under his fur and feeling a bit flustered, Julius replied, "I really didn't do that much. It just needed a little tightening."

"Yes, but it could have been dangerous if you hadn't," she said. "So, I'm very grateful."

"You're quite welcome, Lady Millicent," Julius said, smiling shyly.

"Would you care to join us for lunch at the café, Millicent? Marius asked. "We could all get better acquainted and perhaps your cart will be ready by the time we finish."

"Oh, that's very nice of you. I would love to join you," she replied.

The three of them walked down the sidewalk a ways to the café, Julius on one side of Millicent and Marius on the other. Marius also felt, much as his son had reported feeling, that there was something very familiar about the wolfess. He couldn't quite put his finger on it but, there was something.

As they neared the café, Julius stepped forward, opening the door and holding it for Millicent. Marius smiled at his son, seeing how he acted with the wolfess. He seemed quite taken with her and once again, he hoped the younger wolf wouldn't get his heart broken. He was sure, however, that no matter what else happened, his son was likely to be just as confused and torn between Millicent and Kai as Kai currently was between Jonah and Julius. But then, he supposed, that's what being in love at their age was all about.

The three wolves sat at a round table near the window in the front of the café. Julius held Millicent's chair for her, seating her facing the large front window before taking the seat to her right. Marius sat in the chair to her left, trying not to stare at her as he tried to figure out what it was about her that was so familiar.

"Have you been to this café since you moved to the area?" Julius asked her.

"No, I'm afraid not. I really haven't gotten out all that much yet," she replied.

"Well, I think you'll find something to your liking. They have quite a varied menu," Marius said as the waitress, a smiling young woman with a round but pleasant face and brown hair, came over with water and menus for them.

"Oh, I'm not a picky eater," Millicent replied, smiling. "I like most foods."

"Then you may have a difficult time deciding what to order here," Julius said, chuckling a little.

The three of them made small talk while they perused the menu, the two males making recommendations now and then. When the waitress came back with their drinks, they placed their orders and started to work their way around to more substantial topics of conversation.

"So, Julius tells me you are from Corithia. That's a long way to move all alone," Marius said, taking a sip of the lemonade he had ordered.

"Yes, it was a long journey and it was a little scary to be going so far alone but, I needed to make a fresh start and I had the house that my father's family left to me here," she replied.

"I have a few properties in Corithia and several business contacts there. I might have met some of your family during one of my trips there," Marius said.

"I suppose that's possible," she said, smiling at him. "But not terribly likely. My family pretty much keeps to themselves. Half of them are farmers and the other half fishermen. Rather independent types, all of them."

"Well, that's the right area for them then. Lots of farmland and a bustling seaport," Marius said.

"I'm actually looking forward to not having to deal with the storm season this year," the wolfess said. "I'm not as tough as the rest of my family seems to be."

"I think you'll enjoy our calmer weather here," Julius offered, smiling at her.

"I'm sure it will be a nice change. And so far, the people here seem quite friendly," she said, smiling back at him.

Blushing under his fur again, Julius took a sip of his iced tea and said, "Yes, well, I did tell you the people here were friendly and helpful."

"That you did. And you proved it yourself by helping me with my loose wheel," she said to Julius. Turning to Marius, she said, "Your son is quite gallant. And he told me you have a new pup. Congratulations. You and your wife must be thrilled."

"Thank you. Yes, we are. Our daughter was born just a little over six weeks ago," Marius said, a proud smile on his face.

"I hope I'm lucky enough to have a daughter one day," Millicent said, thinking to herself that one day might come very soon indeed.

"Children can be a blessing ...and a trial," Marius said, chuckling as he looked across the table at his son.

"Father!" Julius said, feigning indignation.

"The three of them laughed at this as the waitress came back, bringing their food. Everything looked and smelled delicious. As they ate and talked, Marius became more and more convinced that there was a lot more to Millicent's story than she was letting on. But she did seem to be a perfectly nice young wolfess so, he would reserve judgment at this point. After all, he told himself, he was probably just being a bit protective of his son.

After they had finished their meal and the waitress had cleared away the dishes, they started to get up to leave. Julius offered his arm to escort the wolfess out of the café, smiling at her and feeling once again like a teenager. She smiled up at him, taking his arm and allowing him to guide her along and out the front door of the cozy little restaurant.

When they were back out on the sidewalk, Julius said, "If you like, Lady Millicent, I will walk you over to the livery stable to see if your cart is ready."

"Oh, thank you, Julius but, I don't want to keep you from any appointments you might have this afternoon," she said, looking up into his eyes.

"Well, we do have some appointments," Julius said, glancing at his father.

"Then you go ahead and take care of those. I'll be fine," Millicent said.

"If you're sure. It was a wonderful surprise seeing you here today. You be safe, Lady Millicent. And I hope to see you again soon," Julius said, smiling down at her. "You be safe as well, Julius. And I hope to see you again soon too," she said to Julius. Turning to smile at Marius, she said, "And it was lovely meeting you, Marius. I hope our paths cross again soon as well."

"As do I, Millicent. And it was delightful meeting you as well," Marius replied.

The wolfess turned, flashing one more smile at Julius, and headed down the sidewalk towards the livery stable. Marius and Julius stood watching her, Julius paying special attention. He had a dopey, teenager-like smile on his face. Marius turned and looked at his son, chuckling a little.

"So, what do you think, Father?" Julius asked, still watching Millicent.

"I think you're quite infatuated," the older wolf replied, chuckling more.

Turning to face his father with an exasperated look on his face, Julius said, "I meant about Millicent, Father. What do you think of her?"

"I think she's a lovely female and I can see why you're attracted to her. But I also think there's a lot she's not telling. But, she seems nice enough. I'll just give you the same advice I would any other time: just be careful," Marius replied, patting Julius on the back.

Nodding and smiling, Julius said, "Yes, Father. Always."

The two wolves climbed up onto their horses and got ready to head to their first appointment of the afternoon. As they rode down the street, Julius waved to Millicent as they passed her. She smiled, waving back demurely. The wolfess was actually glad that Julius hadn't accompanied her to the livery stable. She wanted to stop at the pharmacy on the way there to have the pharmacist put together a home pregnancy test and that would definitely set off alarm bells that she didn't want ringing yet. She knew it was a bit soon to use the test yet but, she liked to be prepared.

As Marius and Julius were heading off to their afternoon appointments, Kai was heading back upstairs after a nice lunch with Jonah. He had the night shift tonight and wouldn't be able to see her later so she was glad they had had time together during the day.

Kai went to the nursery, hoping to see both Jillian and Marian. She just adored the pup and loved it when she got to hold or feed her. She wondered sometimes when she held her, what kind of mother she would be someday. And also whether, when she was, if she would be holding a baby or a pup.

Kai knocked at the door, waiting until she heard Jillian say to come in before she opened it, smiling over at mother and daughter who were in one of the overstuffed chairs and saying, "Hello, you two. How are you this afternoon?"

"We're both doing well today, thanks. How are you? You look happy," Jillian said, smiling at her friend as she came in.

"I'm fine," Kai said as she sat on the footstool in front of Jillian's chair, smiling. "I just had a nice long lunch with Jonah. He has the night shift tonight so, we won't have time together this evening."

"Any plans with Julius then?" Jillian asked, giggling.

Giggling herself, Kai replied, "It would be nice. We don't have plans but I was hoping to spend some time with him this evening. But I don't know. He's been acting a little strangely the last few days though. Always seeming to be in a hurry."

"That's a little odd. He's always seemed to like to spend as much time around you as possible. Maybe Marius is just keeping him too busy," Jillian said.

"I don't know. He just seems to rush off whenever we stop to talk for a minute," Kai said, a puzzled look on her face.

"Well," Jillian said softly as she rocked Marian in her arms, "Maybe I should keep Marius too busy to think about other things tonight and that would leave Julius available for a romantic evening with you."

"That sounds like a devious plan. I like the way your mind works," Kai said, giggling.

"Oh, it's not totally selfless, believe me," Jillian said, giggling softly herself. "I'll be enjoying entertaining Marius."

The two of them giggled over that, trying not to be too loud since Marian was starting to fall asleep in Jillian's arms. Just then, Mya came in, smiling as she walked over to the other two women. She sat down in the other overstuffed chair, next to the one Jillian was sitting in.

"So, how are you ladies today?" she asked.

"Doing well, thanks. How are you, Mya?" Jillian asked.

"Oh, I'm doing well. I thought I should come up and see if you needed any help with Marian," Mya replied, smiling over at the sleepy pup.

"Hmmm, well... ,"Jillian said. "Actually, we were just cooking up a little strategy for this evening and, it might be nice if you could take care of Marian for me while Kai and I go get ready."

"Certainly. What sort of strategy is it?" Mya asked, a mischievous gleam in her eyes.

Kai and Jillian looked at each other, giggling a little more before Jillian said, "Well, it seems that my husband may have been keeping Julius a little too busy so, I'm going to make sure he's quite distracted so Kai can have a nice evening with Julius."

"Oh, so Jonah has the night shift tonight?" Mya asked, giggling herself. By now she, as well as several of the other ladies, knew that Kai was seeing both the guard and the wolf.

Blushing, Kai replied, "Well, yes, he does. But, Julius has seemed awfully rushed every time we have talked for the past few days so, we thought this might give him a chance to slow down."

"Well, you two should go get ready to have fun with those two handsome wolves then," Mya said, smiling conspiratorially. "I'm happy to stay here and look after Marian for you."

"Are you sure, Mya? I wouldn't want to spoil any plans you might have. If you're busy, I can ask one of the other ladies," Jillian said.

"Nonsense! I love taking care of Marian. Besides, I am her nanny," Mya said.

"I know but, you haven't had a night to yourself in a while. I thought you might want some time to yourself. Or maybe some time to spend with someone special?" Jillian said, smiling at Mya.

"Marian is someone special," Mya said, tickling the pup's tummy.

"Yes, she certainly is," Jillian replied. "But you know what I mean. You should maybe start going out, meeting people. Maybe look for love. Or at least just take time for yourself."

"I enjoy spending time with Marian. And don't worry, if I feel like I need time for myself, I will let you know," Mya said, smiling at Jillian and reaching out to take Marian.

Smiling back at Mya, Jillian carefully handed Marian to her and said, "Okay, I just don't want to feel like I am taking advantage of you."

"You're not, dear," Mya said as she took the pup, cradling and gently rocking her in her arms.

Jillian leaned over, kissing Marian gently on the top of her furry little head before standing and turning to smile at Mya. "Ok, then, if you're sure. Kai and I should go pick out some eye-popping outfits and start getting ready to snare a couple of wolves this evening. Thank you, Mya."

"My pleasure. Now, you two run along," Mya said, smiling.

Jillian and Kai went into the adjoining bedroom that Marius and Jillian shared to start going through Jillian's closet. They sifted through at least half of the clothes there before they both agreed on what Jillian should wear that evening. The dress they picked was a black and silver evening gown with spaghetti straps and a swingy skirt with a split all the way up to one hip.

The two women went to Kai's room to look through her closet next, pulling out dress after dress, trying different shoes and accessories with them. They settled on a low cut, light blue dress with a long, sleek, fitted skirt that, much like Jillian's chosen dress for the evening, had a slit up one side, almost to the hip.

They decided to meet up in Marius and Jillian's room after they had bathed to do each other's hair and makeup. Both women were excited about the evening ahead. It wasn't as though Jillian and Kai were spending the night with Marius and Julius for the first time but, the idea of each of them seducing their respective wolves was rather intoxicating.

"I hope this works," Kai said as Jillian applied blush to her cheeks.

"I don't see how Julius could resist you," Jillian replied, smiling at her friend.

"Well, something's bothering him. I just wish he would talk to me about it," Kai said, a worried expression on her face.

"Well, I think you'll be able to get him to open up and tell you anything you want to know," Jillian said with a giggle. "He'll be putty in your hand."

"Furry putty. Hmmm, that sounds kind of messy," Kai said, giggling herself.

"Well, with any luck, we'll both end up getting kind of messy tonight anyway," Jillian replied, winking.

The two of them giggled more over this as Jillian finished with Kai's makeup and started on her hair. When Jillian had finished, Kai started on her. They spent quite a long time working on each other and when they were done, both looked picture perfect and ready to entice their wolves into an evening of passion.

"I just thought of something," Kai said, looking terrified. "What if he's met someone else? Or just lost interest in me?"

"Oh, I'm sure he hasn't met someone else. When would he have time? And there's no way he has lost interest in you. He practically melts when he looks at you," Jillian said with a knowing smile. "That wolf is in love with you."

"I hope you're right. He hasn't said he is but I think he may be holding back because of me seeing Jonah too. And I guess I don't have any right to expect him to say it. Or not to see other people, for that matter," Kai replied.

"Well, I'm confident that you have nothing to worry about," Jillian said, smiling at her.

"I suppose I should get going if I want to 'bump into' Julius and seduce him," Kai said, giggling.

"Have fun," Jillian said, giggling herself. "And don't wear him out too badly."

"I'll try. No promises though," Kai said, smiling wickedly as she left for her own room.

Jillian went downstairs, talking to the butler for a moment and making arrangements for a romantic, candlelight dinner on the terrace outside hers and Marius' bedroom. She also asked him to tell her husband she needed to see him when he got home and that she would be in their room. The butler nodded, winking at her as he headed off to set things in motion for Jillian.

She went back upstairs to the bedroom, getting out some scented candles and placing them on various tables. There was a knock at the door as one of the serving girls brought fresh flowers to the room. Jillian let her in, directing her around the room and the terrace where she wanted them placed.

After the girl had left and two others had come with tablecloth, napkins, dishes and the rest to set up the terrace, Jillian went next door to check on Marian. She wanted to spend some time with her daughter if she could before she got too busy with Marius.

She went into the nursery, smiling over at Mya, who was sitting in the chair Jillian had been in earlier, sewing. As she neared the crib, Jillian looked in at the sleeping pup. She stood, watching her daughter, her heart full of love.

As she stood there, Marian began to stir, slowly waking and opening her eyes. She looked up, noticing her mother there and growled happily, her tail beginning to wag. Jillian leaned in, picking Marian up and cuddling her. The pup wiggled excitedly in her mother's arms, making little squeaking noises.

"Hello, sweetheart," Jillian said, cradling Marian in her arms.

"She must have picked up your scent and woke up," Mya said, setting her sewing aside.

"I'm glad she did. I'd like to be able to spend some time with her before her daddy gets home," Jillian said, smiling at Mya as she walked over and sat in the chair next to the other woman to enjoy some time with Marian. "Well, I'm going to get a towel for you. I wouldn't want her to spit up on you when you are all ready for your evening with the Master. And by the way, you look lovely," Mya said, smiling back as she got up and went to get a towel.

When Mya returned with a towel, she handed it to Jillian who draped it over her left shoulder as she cradled Marian's head in that arm. As she situated the towel, a corner of it tickled the pup's nose and she sneezed cutely.

"Oh, bless you, sweetheart," Jillian said, laughing softly.

"I'll go get her a bottle," Mya said. "She's probably a little hungry after her nap. I'll be right back."

"Okay, we'll be here," Jillian said, smiling as she glanced up at Mya.

As Mya left the room, Jillian looked back down at her daughter. She was still just a little pup, only seven weeks old, but she had been growing and developing. Her little body was filling out and getting heavier as her muscles began growing. Jillian smiled wistfully, scratching the pup behind one ear gently as she thought about her little girl growing up.

A few minutes later, as Jillian sat singing to and playing with Marian, Mya came back with her bottle. She handed the bottle to Jillian and when the pup saw and smelled it, her eyes lit up, her tail wagged faster and she let out a sharp, high pitched bark.

"Oh, it sounds like someone is hungry," Jillian said, giggling a little.

"Yes, she seems to be," Mya said, smiling. "She seems to wake up that way quite frequently. Of course, she's doing so much growing and developing right now."

"Yes, she certainly is. She's still little, thank goodness, but she's getting heavier," Jillian replied.

Jillian put the nipple of the bottle to the pup's lips, smiling as she took it eagerly. Marian's tiny paws came up, grasping at the sides of the bottle as she began suckling. She drank most of the bottle before slowing to a stop. Turning her and positioning her to be burped, Jillian carefully made sure the towel was also in position.

After Jillian had finished burping Marian, Mya stepped forward to take her. "Let me change her, dear. You should go wait for the Master. He'll be home soon and you have such a nice evening planned with him," she said.

"I just hate to leave Marian. I love spending time with her too," Jillian replied, smiling.

"I know, dear. But she'll be right here and I'll be looking after her," Mya said.

Nodding, Jillian kissed Marian's silky little cheek and then the tip of her nose, saying, ""Okay, sweetheart, Mommy is going to go wait for Daddy. You be a good little girl for Mya. I'll see you in a little while."

The little wolfess looked up at Jillian, her eyes dancing and her tail wagging as her tongue darted out, licking her mother's cheek. Jillian laughed, cuddling her close before grudgingly handing her over to Mya.

Jillian went back to hers and Marius' room, quickly lighting the scented candles she had placed around the room. When she had that done, she went to sit on the sofa, draping herself seductively across it to await her husband's arrival. She felt fairly certain that she could keep Marius occupied this evening. She just hoped it would help Kai be able to get Julius to spend some time with her as well. She had noticed he had seemed a bit nervous and distracted the last few days. Hopefully though, Kai would help him loosen up and relax and they would have an enjoyable evening.

Jillian didn't have long to wait and after only a few minutes, Marius came through the door, smiling as he saw his wife waiting for him in their candlelit bedroom. As he made his way over to join her on the sofa, Julius was heading up the stairs, intending to go to his own room and have a long soak in the tub.

As he reached the top of the stairs, Kai came down the hallway, almost seeming to float towards him. He wanted to go hide in his room and not risk her figuring out anything about what he had done with Millicent. Somehow though, this time he just couldn't dash off. As he stood watching her move so seductively, he felt rooted to the spot. He smiled as his eyes traveled over her, lingering in a few interesting places before finding their way back up to her face.

"Hello, Julius," Kai said in a soft, sexy voice. "How are you this evening?"

"I seem to be quite well now, Lady Kai," he replied, licking his lips unconsciously.

Kai smiled, stepping closer to the wolf. She reached out, taking his paw as she looked up into his eyes. "I could make you feel even better," she said.

"I'm quite sure of that, Lady Kai," Julius said. "You have already done quite a lot to make my day even better."

"Well, come with me then, and I'll improve it even more," she said, winking at him as she began leading him towards her room.

Julius let her lead him down the hall, his eyes moving over her curves as she walked in front of him. He had been avoiding Kai out of feelings of guilt over being with Millicent but, right now, his body and his heart ached to be with her. He loved her and lusted after her and could see having a future and pups with her. But meeting and being with Millicent had left him confused. He understood how Kai must be feeling about he and Jonah.

When they reached her room, Kai turned and smiled up at him as she opened the door and led him through it. She had made her own trip downstairs and, even though she hadn't arranged a candlelight dinner, she had asked one of the serving girls that she trusted to help her bring up a light dinner for two and a nice bottle of wine. The meal was laid out on the coffee table in her sitting area, the wine in an ice bucket, chilling.

"Make yourself comfortable, Julius. I had a little dinner brought up for us," she said as she closed the door. "I have dessert for you later as well."

The wolf walked over, sitting on the sofa as he watched Kai lock the door and come over to sit beside him. She was usually demure and a bit submissive but this evening it appeared that she knew what she wanted and wasn't going to be shy about getting it. This rather excited Julius.

"I hope this all looks good," she said as she poured a glass of wine for him and then one for herself. "I thought you might be hungry after a long day of work."

"Yes, I am. And everything looks delicious," Julius said, eyeing first the food and then Kai again. He took a sip of his wine before picking up his fork and spearing a bite of the food on his plate. Kai had had a nice meal of steak and steamed vegetables brought up. His stomach was feeling a little empty. It had been hours since lunch. But he was even more hungry for what she had planned for dessert.

"You've seemed so rushed lately every time we've talked that I thought a nice relaxing evening would be good for you," Kai said as she cut her steak.

Smiling, Julius replied, "Well, I'm sure it will be a nice evening but I'm not sure how much relaxing we will be doing."

"I'm sure you'll feel quite relaxed by the end of the evening," Kai said, giggling.

As they ate, she asked him about his day and told him about hers, telling him about spending time with Jillian and the pup but skipping the details of lunch with Jonah. He left out the part about having lunch with Millicent as he told her about the events of his day. As they finished their meal and sat cuddling on the sofa with their wine, the conversation became more intimate.

"I've missed you these past few days," Kai said as she curled up next to the wolf.

"I'm sorry, Lady Kai. I guess I have just been distracted with work," he replied, feeling guilty for lying.

"Well, you're here now and we have the whole evening. So, forget about work and relax," she said as she gently scratched him behind one ear.

"You're making that very easy," he said, setting his wine glass down and smiling as he turned to look into her eyes.

Kai leaned in, kissing him softly, sliding her hand down from his ear to the back of his neck and burying her fingers in the thick, silky fur there.
